Creighton has lost four-straight BIG EAST games following a league-opening victory over Providence in December. Four Bluejays average double-figures, led by Ty-Shon Alexander with 17.0 ppg. The Bluejays won both contests last season and have won three-straight in the series. THE EWING ERA Coach Ewing completed his first season at Georgetown with a record. He was named head coach on April 3, 2017 and is the fourth coach in 19 years at Georgetown. John Thompson Jr. ( ) / Craig Esherick ( ) / John Thompson III ( ) BACK TO SCHOOL Three BIG EAST coaches are currently coaching at their alma maters: Patrick Ewing, Georgetown LaVall Jordan, Butler Chris Mullin, St. John s LAST TIME OUT In a game that came down to the final minute, the Georgetown University men s basketball team fell just short to the visiting Marquette University Golden Eagles on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Hoyas slip to 12-6 on the year with a 2-3 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. Mac McClung led the Hoyas with 24 points on a 7-of-11 effort from the floor including four 3-pointers. Jessie Govan tallied 14 points while Kaleb Johnson chipped in 12 points to round out those in double figures. Govan s nine rebounds led the squad while James Akinjo recorded a game-best eight assists. Georgetown shot 42.3 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Golden Eagles HOYAS BATTLE TO DOUBLE-OVERTIME WIN OVER PROVIDENCE Trailing by three with 3.9 seconds remaining in regulation, the Hoyas looked to freshman Mac McClung who came up with the buzzer beater to tie the game and send the tilt against Providence to overtime. In a similar situation at the end of the first overtime frame, this time with 10.5 seconds remaining, the Hoyas called upon fellow freshman James Akinjo who also drained his 3-pointer to send the game to its second overtime where the Hoyas prevailed over the visiting Friars in a double-overtime thriller. The Hoyas improve to 12-5 on the season with a 2-2 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. Senior Jessie Govan led all scorers with a career-high 33 points on 11-of-26 shooting and an 8-for-11 effort at the free throw line. He recorded his sixth double-double of the season as he grabbed a game-best 14 rebounds and totaled four blocked shots in the contest. Akinjo was second on the team in scoring with 20 points and McClung rounded out those in double figures with 16. Freshman Josh LeBlanc grabbed double-digit boards for the eighth time this season as he pulled down 11 and added four blocks to the effort. Akinjo paced the offense with nine assists. 6

8 BIG EAST HONORS Georgetown has been recognized by the BIG EAST conference on multiple occasions this season. Most recently, James Akinjo was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the second time in his career on Jan. 14. Jessie Govan has been named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll six times this season, Trey Mourning was honored for the first time of his career (Nov. 26), Greg Malinowski collected the distinction for the first time (Jan. 7) and Akinjo (Nov. 19, Jan. 14), Mac McClung (Dec. 23) and Josh LeBlanc (Dec. 31) have all been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week this season. CENTER OF ATTENTION In addition to his Jamaica Classic All-Tournament team honors, Jessie Govan was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll four times this year. Govan was a unanimous selection to the Preseason ALL-BIG EAST First Team as announced by the league. Named after Hall of Famer and three-time NCAA Champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the annual honor is in its fifth year of recognizing the top centers in men s college basketball. The watch list of 20 candidates was determined by a national committee comprised of top college basketball personnel. James Akinjo has started all 18 games and is the second leading scorer on the team with 14.1 ppg. Akinjo scored a team-high 19 points and Mac McClung added 12 points in their first collegiate road game at Illinois November 13. Against Little Rock on 12/22, McClung and Akinjo combined for 63 of GU s 102 points, both recording career highs with 38 points and 25 points, respectively. Josh LeBlanc recorded his first double-double as a Hoya with 11 points and 11 rebounds in his college debut vs. Eastern Shore (11/6) and scored a career-high 22 points vs. Howard. The freshman class currently accounts for 45.7 percent of GU s point production. FROSH JOSH Freshman forward Josh LeBlanc has started the last seven games in place of Trey Mourning (concussion protocol). Against Howard, he contributed a career-high 22 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes for his his third double-double. He has scored in double figures eight times and grabbed double figure rebounds in eight games. He is averaging 24.4 mpg, 9.1 ppg and a team-high 8.0 rpg in 18 games. LeBlanc s high school assistant coach at Madison Prep Academy was former Hoya Darrel DJ Owens. FIRST IMPRESSIONS With 14.1 ppg, James Akinjo tops a trio of freshmen in the BIG EAST Conference to rank among the top 30 in scoring. He (14th) and teammate Mac McClung (13.4 ppg - 15th) are the only freshmen among the top 15 in the league. Akinjo is also the only freshman to appear on the assists list, averaging 4.9 apg for third in the conference. Josh LeBlanc is tied for second in the league in rebounding, grabbing 8.0 rpg and is one of only three freshman to rank among the top 30 in the category. He is also fourth in the BE with a 66.0 field goal percentage and one of only a pair of freshman ranked among the top 15. BEASTS OF THE BIG EAST After the opening rounds of conference play, Georgetown sits atop the standings in a number of categories specifically in BIG EAST Conference play including the highest scoring offense (84.0 ppg.), rebounds per game (39.4), blocked shots per game (5.0) and assists per game (18.4). With pointers/game in league action, the Blue & Gray ranks third in the league behind Creighton (12.4) and Villanova (11.4). MOVING ON UP When Jessie Govan scored 33 vs. Providence (01/12), he moved past former Hoyas Charles Smith (1,398) and Craig Shelton (1,409) on GU s all-time points in a career list. Now with 1439 total points, he sits at No. 18 on the list behind fellow big man Roy Hibbert who totaled 1476 points from

With 121 rejections over his career, he is on the heels of Don Reid s ( ) 122 career blocks. 10 BIG EAST AT THE GARDEN On December 9, the BIG EAST Conference and Madison Square Garden announced an extension through 2028 of their agreement to hold the BIG EAST Tournament at The World s Most Famous Arena. The agreement also ensures that the Tournament will be staged on its traditional dates at the close of college basketball s regular season. The BIG EAST and Madison Square Garden have been partners since the Tournament was first played at the iconic venue in The BIG EAST Tournament is the longest-running postseason championship at the same location in college basketball. HOME SWEET HOME During the summer, several renovations were done in advance of the season at Capital One Arena. The arena now features new seats, upgraded concourses and the Hoya locker room was redesigned with new lockers, coaches offices and showers. COURT IN SESSION Georgetown debuts a new court this season, which includes the kente cloth pattern on the sidelines and inside the free throw area. Georgetown helped popularize the kente cloth pattern during the 1990s Allen Iverson era when it appeared in the jersey trim. The kente cloth pattern is now used throughout all of athletics and is synonymous with the Georgetown Hoyas. JAMAICA ME CRAZY Kingston-born Patrick Ewing, returned to his home country with his team to participate in the 2018 Jersey Mike s Jamaica Classic. The team returned home with a 1-1 record at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, losing the first game to Loyola Marymount on Friday and defeating University of South Florida in overtime on Sunday. Jessie Govan was named to the All-Tournament Team - Montego Bay Division after averaging 3.5 mpg, 23.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg in two games. MAKING THE GRADE Kaleb Johnson, Jagan Mosely and Trey Mourning were all named to the BIG EAST All-Academic team as announced by the league over the summer. TEAMING UP AGAIN On October 30, it was announced by the Georgetown and Radio One Inc. that men s basketball would be featured on The Team 980 WTEM for the next three seasons beginning with the season. Radio One was the original flagship home of the Hoyas when Georgetown basketball first took to the airwaves in the early 1970s. BIG EAST & PAN AM GAMES A select team of men s basketball standouts from the BIG EAST Conference will represent the United States at the 2019 Pan American Games, it was announced jointly by USA Basketball and the BIG EAST. This represents the first time a team from a single Division l conference will represent the U.S. in the sport of men s basketball in Pan American Games competition. The BIG EAST also announced that Providence College head coach Ed Cooley will serve as head coach for the Pan American Games team. Cooley s selection is pending USOC approval. The player roster, additional coaching staff appointments and training camp details will be announced at a later date. FRESHMEN FACTS The last time Georgetown started two freshmen was the season when Jeff Green and Jonathan Wallace started all 32 games of the season. The freshmen on the roster during the season averaged 28.6 ppg and accounted for 44.4 percent of the squad s points. That class, led by All-Americans Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert as well as Jonathan Wallace, and in joined by Patrick Ewing Jr., tallied numerous accomplishments, including: a pair of BIG EAST regular season titles ( , ), the 2007 BIG EAST Tournament title, Sweet Sixteen appearances in 2006 and 2007 and an appearance in the 2007 Final Four. FAMILIAR FACES Starters Jessie Govan, Kaleb Johnson and Jamorko Pickett are back on the roster. Other returnees include Jahvon Blair, Greg Malinowski, Jagan Mosely, Trey Mourning, George Muresan. NEW FACES Newcomers to the roster include James Akinjo, Grayson Carter, Josh LeBlanc, Mac McClung, Jaden Robinson and Omer Yurtseven (will not play this season). STARTERS LOST Marcus Derrickson and Jonathan Mulmore. GOLDEN STATE HOYA Former Hoya Marcus Derrickson signed a two-way contract with the back-to-back champion Golden State Warrios on October 13 and was called up on November 10 and scored his first NBA basket vs. the Brooklyn Nets that evening. He originally signed with the Warriors on September 20, appearing in five preseason games with the Warriors (four starts), averaging 14.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in 21.4 minutes per game. Derrickson was an undrafted early-entry candidate in the 2018 Draft, averaging 15.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 32.0minutes in 29 games (all starts) during his junior season at Georgetown and earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors. 10

11 IN THE NBA When the National Basketball Association season started, several former Georgetown men s basketball players were on rosters for the season. Former Hoya All-American Otto Porter Jr., the 2013BIG EAST Player of the Year and the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft (Washington Wizards), began his sixth season as a professional in DC. Another former All-American, Greg Monroe, is currently with the Toronto Raptors. He started his career with the Detroit Pistons in Former BIG EAST Player of the Year and All-American Jeff Green plays alongside Otto Porter Jr. for the Washington Wizards. Green was originally drafted by the Boston Celtics and played in Seattle before the team moved to Oklahoma City, where he played through NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK Coach Ewing has signed a pair of student-athletes to National Letters of Intent in the early signing period. Ewing has signed 6-foot-11 center Malcolm Wilson and 6-foot-11 center Timothy Ighoefe. The duo will be freshmen on the Georgetown basketball team. Wilson is a three-star recruit out of Columbia, South Carolina and he averaged 9.9 ppg and 6.4 bpg for the Ridge View Blazers last season. Overall, he finished this season with 287 rebounds and 186 blocks. He also helped lead the Blazers to their first state championship in program history and Ridge View became the first school from District 2 to achieve that feat. Ighoefe, a product out of Lagos, Nigeria, is a member of NBA Academy Africa and competed in the NBA Academy Games over the summer. Ighoefe is known for his 7-foot-7.5 wingspan, 8-foot-11 standing reach and 10-foot-11 one-step vertical. At the end of 2017, Ighoefe, as part of NBA Academy Africa, participated in a tour of Europe and participated in training sessions and played games against local teams. IN MEMORIAM Former Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Francis X. Rienzo passed away on Saturday, November 3, He served as the Director of Athletics from During his tenure, Georgetown Athletics experienced unparalleled success and expansion, and by 1995 the number of varsity sports had grown from 11 to 26. He played a pivotal role in the creation of the BIG EAST Conference, and Georgetown s success in the BIG EAST and nationally catapulted the University into the national spotlight. The men s basketball team attended his funeral on Thursday, November 8 in Bethesda, Maryland. During the season, the Hoyas will wear a FXR patch on their uniforms to honor Rienzo and his impact on Georgetown athletics. 11

ASSOCIATED PRESS TOP The Associated Press college basketball poll started on Jan. 20, 1949, and hasn t missed a week since. The original poll had 20 teams, with Saint Louis the first school to hold the No. 1 ranking. From the season through there was only a Top 10. It expanded again to 20 teams from through The Top 25 began the next season, and it has stayed at that number ever since. Only 12 schools have run the season at No. 1, the last being Duke in The record for consecutive weeks at No. 1 is 46 by UCLA from Feb. 9, 1971 through Jan. 15, Ohio State stands second in this category with a 27-week run from Dec through March 13, UCLA has spent the most weeks at No. 1 with 134; Duke is second with 122. North Carolina, with 111, is the only other school with more than 100. The record for most schools to reach No. 1 in a season is seven in , and the most consecutive weeks with a different No. 1 is seven in The AP s final poll is always released after the field for the NCAA tournament is selected. There are 23 schools that have been ranked No. 2 but have never been atop the poll. Maryland, with 23 weeks at No. 2, leads that list, which includes national champions UTEP and California. 14 PATRICK EWING HEAD COACH SECOND SEASON GEORGETOWN C 85 Georgetown University announced on April 3, 2017 that Patrick Ewing (C 85) named its new head men s basketball coach. Ewing came back to Georgetown after serving for 15 years as an assistant head coach in the NBA. He served as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards ( ), Houston Rockets ( ) and Orlando Magic ( ) and as the associate head coach for the Charlotte Hornets ( ). In his first season on the Hilltop, the Hoyas finished the regular season with a record (5-13 BIG EAST). The Hoyas got off to a strong start, winning eight-consecutive games, the first time since the season. Under Ewing s tutelage, Jessie Govan became just the 20th Hoya in program history to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds. The season saw Marcus Derrickson recognized as an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree and a pair of freshman in Jamorko Pickett and Jahvon Blair earned BIG EAST All-Freshman team accolades. Ewing is recognized as the greatest men s basketball player to ever don the Blue & Gray. He was selected as one of the top 50 players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Ewing was a three-time consensus First Team All-America selection (1983, 1984, 1985) on the Hilltop, leading the Hoyas to three NCAA Championship Game appearances and the 1984 National Championship title. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the 1984 NCAA Championships. His play propelled Georgetown into one of the most respected basketball programs in the country. During his illustrious career, Ewing had the opportunity to play for, and coach, alongside some of the great coaches in basketball, including Pat Riley (New York Knicks), Jeff Van Gundy (Knicks, Houston Rockets), Stan Van Gundy (Orlando Magic), Tom Thibodeau (Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves) and Steve Clifford (Charlotte). He was the first pick in the 1985 NBA Draft and went on to earn NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1986 with the New York Knicks after averaging 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Ewing scored 24,815 points during his 17-year NBA career to go along with 11,607 rebounds. Ewing spent 15 years with the Knicks and made 10-consecutive NBA All-Star appearances. Ewing averaged 21.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.45 blocks in 1,183 career games and was a member of the NBA s 50th Anniversary Team. He remains the New York Knicks all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocked shots, steals and field goals made. He still stands second all-time in scoring at Georgetown, averaging 15.3 points in 143 games. He is one of only four players in program history to score at least 2,000 points (2,184). Ewing is the all-time leader in total rebounds (1,316), blocked shots (493) and games played (143).
