The Bluejays hit 16 3-pointers en route to the victory as the Hoyas slip to 11-4 on the season with a 1-3 mark in BIG EAST play. Jagan Mosely was the lone Hoya in double figures with 11 points and paced the offense with four assists. EWING S FIRST BIG EAST WIN The junior duo of Jessie Govan and Marcus Derrickson combined for 49 points as the Georgetown men s basketball team garnered its first BIG EAST win of the season, defeating DePaul on the road, With the win, the Hoyas are now 11-3 on the season and own a 1-2 record in BIG EAST play. DePaul slipped to 7-8 overall and 0-3 in league action. Govan led all players with 25 points, while adding a game-high 12 rebounds for his 10th double-double on the year and a team-best five assists. Derrickson poured in 24 points of his own to go with seven boards and three assists. Jahvon Blair added 15 points to round out those in double figures. For the game, Georgetown shot 45.5 percent from the floor and hit 31-of-37 from the charity stripe. For just the second time this season, Georgetown was outrebounded, 35-33, but the Hoyas forced 17 DePaul turnovers while committing 14. The Blue & Gray received 25 points from its bench to DePaul s four. NEXT UP Georgetown returns to the tri-state area to face Seton Hall on Saturday, January 13 at the Prudential Center. 6

8 BIG EAST HONORS Georgetown freshman guard Jahvon Blair was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday, as announced by the league. This is Blair s first weekly award of his career. The Hoyas went 1-1 last week after defeating DePaul on the road, 90-81, followed up by a loss to No. RV/24 Creighton at home, In the pair of games, Blair averaged 11.5 ppg and 2.5 rpg and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the line. For the season, Blair is averaging 8.5 ppg, 2.3 rpg and shooting 35.3 percent from the floor. The freshman has put up six double-figure outings, including three in his last five games. CENTER OF ATTENTION For the season, Jessie Govan is averaging 18.1 ppg and 11.7 rpg while shooting.553 from the field ( FGA) in 15 games. His 11.7 rpg ranks fourth overall among the NCAA and second among centers, just behind Seton Hall s Angel Delgado (11.8). His 18.1 ppg ranks 110th nationally and fourth among NCAA centers. WATCH FOR JESSIE Jessie Govan is one of 20 NCAA Division I centers on the watch list for the 2018 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced on October 20. Named after Hall of Famer, three-time NCAA champion, six-time NBA champion and six-nba MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the yearly award recognizes the top center in Division I men s college basketball. A national committee consisting of top college basketball personnel selected the 20 preseason candidates. The Abdul-Jabbar Award Committee will narrow down its candidates to 10 by mid-february, with the five finalists announced in March. The winner of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award will be crowned at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show on Friday, April 6 in Los Angeles, Calif. IN THE NBA When the National Basketball Association season started, several former Georgetown men s basketball players were on rosters for the season. The games that are in this promotion include Georgetown s game against North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Dec. 9 (12 p.m.), against Alabama A&M on Saturday, Dec 23. (noon), against Creighton on Saturday, Jan. 6 (noon), against St. John s on Saturday, Jan. 20 (noon) and against Providence on Saturday, Feb. 24 (noon). Schools will award certificates based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement, acknowledging students who demonstrate excellent or improved attendance; scheduling special events and awards; and recognizing students and schools that demonstrate progress in reducing student absenteeism or tardiness. This promotion will grant two tickets per certificate for students who are enrolled in the eighth grade and below. Another former All-American, Greg Monroe, began his third season with the Milwaukee Bucks and just recently got traded to Phoenix. He started his career with the Detroit Pistons. Former BIG EAST Player of the Year and All-American Jeff Green plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Green was originally drafted by the Boston Celtics and played in Seattle before the team moved to Oklahoma City, where he played through

The original poll had 20 teams, with Saint Louis the first school to hold the No. 1 ranking. From the season through there was only a Top 10. It expanded again to 20 teams from through The Top 25 began the next season, and it has stayed at that number ever since. Only 12 schools have run the season at No. 1, the last being Duke in The record for consecutive weeks at No. 1 is 46 by UCLA from Feb. 9, 1971 through Jan. 15, Ohio State stands second in this category with a 27-week run from Dec through March 13, UCLA has spent the most weeks at No. 1 with 134; Duke is second with 122. North Carolina, with 111, is the only other school with more than 100. The record for most schools to reach No. 1 in a season is seven in , and the most consecutive weeks with a different No. 1 is seven in The AP s final poll is always released after the field for the NCAA tournament is selected. 13 PATRICK EWING HEAD COACH FIRST SEASON GEORGETOWN C 85 Georgetown University announced on April 3, 2017 that Patrick Ewing (C 85) was named its new head men s basketball coach. Ewing comes back to Georgetown after serving for 15 years as an assistant head coach in the NBA. He served as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards ( ), Houston Rockets ( ) and Orlando Magic ( ) and most recently as the associate head coach for the Charlotte Hornets. Ewing is recognized as the greatest men s basketball player to ever don the Blue & Gray. He was selected as one of the top 50 players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Ewing was a three-time consensus First Team All-America selection (1983, 1984, 1985) on the Hilltop, leading the Hoyas to three NCAA Championship Game appearances and the 1984 National Championship title. He was named Most Outstanding Player of the 1984 NCAA Championships. His play propelled Georgetown into one of the most respected basketball programs in the country. During his illustrious career, Ewing had the opportunity to play for, and coach, alongside some of the great coaches in basketball, including Pat Riley (New York Knicks), Jeff Van Gundy (Knicks, Houston Rockets), Stan Van Gundy (Orlando Magic), Tom Thibodeau (Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves) and Steve Clifford (Charlotte). He was the first pick in the 1985 NBA Draft and went on to earn NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1986 with the New York Knicks after averaging 20.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Ewing scored 24,815 points during his 17-year NBA career to go along with 11,607 rebounds. Ewing spent 15 years with the Knicks and made 10-consecutive NBA All-Star appearances. Ewing averaged 21.0 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.45 blocks in 1,183 career games and was a member of the NBA s 50th Anniversary Team. He remains the New York Knicks all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocked shots, steals and field goals made. He still stands second all-time in scoring at Georgetown, averaging 15.3 points in 143 games. He is one of only four players in program history to score at least 2,000 points (2,184). Ewing is the all-time leader in total rebounds (1,316), blocked shots (493) and games played (143).
