Jewell Loyd was the most recent Fighting Irish player to be chosen, going No. 1 overall to the Seattle Storm (the first Notre Dame student-athlete selected No. 1 in any American professional sports league draft since Walt Patulski by the NFL s Buffalo Bills). It marked the fourth consecutive year Notre Dame had a player selected among the top three picks in the WNBA Draft (Devereaux Peters went third to Minnesota in 2012, Skylar Diggins was chosen in that same spot by Tulsa [now Dallas] in 2013, and Kayla McBride followed in 2014, selected third overall by San Antonio), making the Fighting Irish the first and only program to produce WNBA Draft lottery choices in four consecutive seasons. Loyd was named the 2015 WNBA Rookie of the Year (the first Notre Dame player chosen for the honor) and joined Natalie Achonwa (drafted in 2014, but didn t suit up for the Indiana Fever until this year due to a knee injury) on the 2015 WNBA All-Rookie Team, giving the Fighting Irish four alumnae on the league s all-rookie squad in the past three seasons (Diggins was picked in 2013 and McBride earned the award in 2014). Diggins, who was a first-team all-wnba selection in 2014, was one of the WNBA s top players and a prime candidate for league MVP honors during the first half of the 2015 season before suffering a knee injury in late June. Nevertheless, she received her second consecutive starting nod for the WNBA All-Star Game as the top vote-getter in the Western Conference (and second overall). Meanwhile, McBride was chosen as a reserve for the Western Conference in this past summer s WNBA All-Star Game and scored 18 points in her all-star debut. Peters became the second Fighting Irish player to earn two WNBA Championship rings, claiming her second in three seasons with the Lynx (and sixth by a Notre Dame alumna), who defeated Achonwa and the Indiana Fever in a memorable five-game WNBA Finals series. Ruth Riley was the first Notre Dame grad to be a two-time WNBA champion, winning a pair of crowns with the Detroit Shock (2003 Finals MVP, 2006), while Coquese Washington toiled for the 2000 Houston Comets and Jacqueline Batteast was Riley s teammate on the 2006 title-winning squad in Detroit. The Notre Dame-TCU Series For the second time in series history, and the first time in almost exactly 25 years, Notre Dame and TCU will square off when they take the hardwood Saturday in Fort Worth. The Fighting Irish won the only prior meeting between the two programs, posting a victory on Dec. 13, 1990, at Purcell Pavilion. The Last Time Notre Dame and TCU Met Comalita Haysbert and Karen Robinson each scored 17 points, leading Notre Dame to a win over TCU on Dec. 13, 1990, at Purcell Pavilion. Haysbert added a team-high seven rebounds, while Robinson had a game-high eight assists and five rebounds. Krissi Davis chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Tootie Jones came off the bench to record a game-best six steals for the Fighting Irish, who forced 31 TCU turnovers, with 22 coming on steals. Liz Zeller scored a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds for the Horned Frogs. Zeller did much of her damage at the free-throw line, making 13-of-16 foul shots, with both marks still among the top two by an opponent in Purcell Pavilion history, even a quarter century later. Joi Wells added 18 points for TCU, which remained within striking distance all day, thanks to its own defensive prowess that forced 24 turnovers and registered 15 steals. Notre Dame shot.493 from the floor and finished with a rebounding edge, including 16 offensive boards. TCU posted a.440 fieldgoal percentage and was a sharp 21-of-27 from the free-throw line (a.778 clip). The Fighting Irish grabbed a halftime lead and stayed in front the rest of the way, thanks in part to a strong bench unit that doubled up its TCU counterpart, Other Notre Dame-TCU Series Tidbits Saturday s game marks the third time in the past 16 Notre Dame games the Fighting Irish will play a team it had not faced in at least 20 years. In last year s NCAA Championship, Notre Dame defeated Montana, in the 3

first round at Purcell Pavilion in the teams first matchup in more than 28 years. Notre Dame then toppled Stanford, in the NCAA Oklahoma City Regional semifinals (Sweet 16) in Oklahoma City in its first game against the Cardinal since Notre Dame will be playing in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex for the second time in program history, and the first in more than three decades. On Jan. 15, 1984, the Fighting Irish dropped a narrow decision at SMU. Notre Dame is (.476) all-time against Texas schools, having won its last three games against a Lone Star State team (83-74 vs. No. 2 Texas A&M on 21, 2012, at the World Vision Classic in Las Vegas; vs. Baylor on March 31, 2014, in the NCAA Elite Eight at Purcell ND vs. State of Texas Overall Away* Baylor Rice SMU Texas Texas A&M utcu Texas State Texas Tech TOTAL (.476) (.375) * - road/neutral sites combined Pavilion; vs. Baylor on March 29, 2015, in NCAA Elite Eight at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma). Factoring in its numerous visits to the state for postseason tournaments (both NCAA and NWIT), Notre Dame is (.417) all-time when playing in Texas. The last Fighting Irish victory in the Lone Star State came on March 15, 1998, when Notre Dame won at No. 6/5 Texas Tech, 74-59, in the second round of the NCAA Championship (Midwest Region) behind a game-high 23 points from then-freshman center Ruth Riley. Notre Dame last played in Texas on Nov. 20, 2011, dropping a decision at No. 1 Baylor in the Preseason WNIT championship game. Notre Dame has had five players on its alltime roster from the state of Texas, including current sophomore forward Brianna Turner (Pearland). Kelly Hicks ( ; Bandera) was the first Lone Star State product to suit up for the Fighting Irish, followed by Ellen Mauch (1987; Mineral Wells). In addition, two members of Notre Dame s 2001 NCAA national championship team came from Texas Imani Dunbar ( ; San Angelo) and Amanda Barksdale ( ; Friendswood). Notre Dame vs. The Big 12 Conference Notre Dame is (.733) all-time against current Big 12 Conference members, including a (.655) record away from home (road/neutral sites combined). The vast majority of those results have come against West Virginia, which the Fighting Irish played annually when the Mountaineers were members of the BIG EAST Conference from Notre Dame has won its last six games against Big 12 teams, including four in NCAA Championship play (two against Baylor, both in the Elite Eight; one each against Kansas and Oklahoma State in the Sweet 16). 4 Notre Dame In the Polls Associated Press Poll Weeks Ranked Week Pts Rank All-Time Nov. 3, 2015 (Pre) Nov. 16, Nov. 23, Nov. 30, Dec. 7, SEASON HIGHS * 160* WBCA/USA Today Coaches Poll Weeks Ranked Week Pts Rank All-Time Oct. 29, 2015 (Pre) Nov. 17, Nov. 24, Dec. 1, Dec. 8, SEASON HIGHS * 127* * = current streak of poll appearances // first-place votes in parentheses Aside from its annual matchups with WVU prior to 12-13, Notre Dame will be playing a current Big 12 opponent for the 20th time since that conference was founded in However, in an odd coincidence, 15 of the previous 19 games were played in a tournament format, including 12 in NCAA Championship play (9-3 record; games in boldface): 1997 NCAA East Region second round at Texas (W, 86-83) 1998 NCAA Midwest Region second round at Texas Tech (W, 74-59) 2000 NCAA Mideast Regional semifinal vs. Texas Tech at Memphis (L, 69-65) 2003 NCAA East Region second round at Kansas State (W, 59-53) 2008 NCAA Oklahoma City Region second round vs. Oklahoma at West Lafayette, Ind. Fans wishing to tune in and watch Saturday s FSN broadcast of the Notre Dame-TCU game should check their local listings (on consult the accompanying box) for the latest rundown of affiliates that will carry the game. Several affiliates will carry the game either on a delayed or repeat basis through Dec. 16, including all three Fox College Sports affiliates (Atlantic, Central and Pacific). At press time, there is no indication the game will be streamed online. Three For The Money Notre Dame has heated up from the threepoint line in a big way, canning 64 treys this season (7.1 per game), including 49 in its last five games alone. At their current pace, the Fighting Irish would easily top the single-season program record for three-pointers per game (5.74 in ). In fact, only once in the past 13 seasons has Notre Dame averaged five treys per game ( , when it made exactly five per contest and a school-record 190 total). The Fighting Irish tied a school record with 13 three-pointers on Dec. 5 at top-ranked Connecticut. The 13 triples (which Notre Dame last registered on Jan. 2, 2002, at Miami) also matched two UConn opponent records for three-pointers in a single game (overall and Gampel Pavilion). Notre Dame s season-high.650 three-point percentage (13-of-20) in that Dec. 5 game at UConn was the highest against the Huskies since March 26, 2007, when LSU made 7-of- 10 three-pointers (.700) against UConn in the NCAA Fresno Regional final (Elite Eight) in Fresno, California. The Fighting Irish rank second in the nation in three-point percentage (as of Thursday), connecting at a.467 clip from beyond the arc. Streak Stats Dating back to the start of the season, Notre Dame has posted a (.943) record. In that four-year span, six of the seven Fighting Irish losses have come against top-three teams, including the past five against Connecticut No. 3 Baylor (73-61 on Dec. 5, 2012, at Purcell Pavilion), No. 3 Connecticut (83-65 on April 7, 2013, in the NCAA Women s Final Four national semifinals at New Orleans Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana), No. 1 Connecticut (79-58 on April 8, 2014, in the NCAA Women s Final Four national championship game at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee), No. 3 Connecticut (76-58 on Dec. 6, 2014, in the Jimmy V Classic at Purcell Pavilion), No. 1 Connecticut (63-53 on April 7, 2015, in the NCAA Women s Final Four national championship game at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida) and No. 1 Connecticut (91-81 on Dec. 5, 2015, in the Jimmy V Classic in Storrs, Connecticut). The other loss came on Jan. 8, 2015, with a setback at Miami. That defeat ended Notre Dame s 61-game winning streak against unranked opponents in the Associated Press poll, the second-longest active run in the nation (research for this note provided by STATS via the AP). Poise Under Pressure Notre Dame has won its last 22 games decided by single digits and/or in overtime, including three times this season (all within the past four games) a overtime win over UCLA on Nov. 28 in the Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division championship game in Freeport, Bahamas; a victory over No. 10/12 Ohio State on Dec. 2 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge at Purcell Pavilion, and a win over No. 18/17 DePaul on Dec. 9 at Purcell Pavilion. The Fighting Irish last dropped a single-digit decision on March 6, 2012, falling at No. 4 Connecticut in the BIG EAST Conference Tournament championship game at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. Notre Dame has been sharp when pushed to overtime, having won six in a row and eight of its last 11 games when going to an extra session. Visiting Century City Notre Dame s victory at Valparaiso on Nov. 23 was its 13th 100-point game since the start of the season (and nine other games of points), a remarkable offensive explosion considering Notre Dame had 13 triple-digit games in the first 34 years of the program s existence and just four in the 12 seasons prior to its current run. Road Warriors Notre Dame has enjoyed remarkable success on the road in recent seasons, having won 47 of its last 49 (and 54 of its last 61) regular season road games. The only blemishes for the Fighting Irish in this current run (which dates back to the early portion of the campaign) are a loss at Miami on Jan. 8, 2015, and a defeat at top-ranked Connecticut on Dec. 5, 2015, in the Jimmy V Classic. The loss in Miami snapped Notre Dame s NCAA Division I record-tying 30-game road winning streak. It was an amazing string of results in hostile territory, a streak that lasted 5

exactly three years (Jan. 4, 2012-Jan. 4, 2015) and left Notre Dame tied with Connecticut for the NCAA Division I all-time mark in that category. One of the more notable highlights of Notre Dame s sensational recent road run came on Jan. 5, 2013, when Notre Dame edged No. 1 Connecticut, 73-72, at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut, earning its fourth alltime win over a top-ranked opponent and first-ever victory on the road. Irish Enjoy Quality Cable Graduate student guard Madison Cable has taken her game to new heights this season, averaging a team-high 17.0 points per game (third in the ACC). Entering this year, Cable was averaging 5.3 ppg. in her career, including a personal-best 6.2 ppg. last season. Cable also is making an early run at the shooter s Holy Grail the club (referring to one s shooting percentages from the field, three-point line and free-throw line). Cable leads the ACC in three-point percentage ( fourth in nation) while ranking fourth in three-pointers per game (3.0), fifth in field-goal percentage ( th in nation) and 13th in free-throw percentage (.769). Prior to this season, Cable had started nine games in her first three years combined, registering 18 double-digit scoring games, two 20-point outings and one doubledouble. In nine games this season, Cable has started each time out, scoring in double figures in every game (the first time Madison Cable Season Improvement PPG p gms p gms 1 4 Dbl-Dbl 1 2 FG% FG% FT% RPG APG SPG Gms Started 6 9 NOTE: Played in 39 games last year; nine games to date this year she has posted a string of more than three consecutive double-digit games) and has four 20-point games, including a career-high 25 points on Dec. 2 against No. 10/12 Ohio State at Purcell Pavilion in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. That game against Ohio State also yielded Cable s second career double-double when she grabbed a team-high (and season-best) 11 rebounds. She s as good a shooter as there is in college basketball, and she played great tonight. Ohio State head coach Kevin McGuff after Cable had 25 points, 11 rebounds and made two clutch plays (threepointer with 56.2 seconds left; two foul shots with 7.5 seconds left) in Notre Dame s win over the No. 10/12 Buckeyes on Dec. 2 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Cable added her third career double-double on Dec. 9 with game highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds in a win over No. 18/17 DePaul. Cable was chosen the Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division MVP, after she averaged 17.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game with a.688 field goal percentage,.667 three point percentage and.875 free throw 6 percentage during Notre Dame s two games in the Bahamas. Cable continues her penchant for sacrificing her body for team success, having drawn four charges this season to raise her career count to 41 drawn charges. That includes Cable s alert play in overtime of the win over UCLA, when she took a charge from Bruins all-pac-12 guard (and Canadian National Team member) Nirra Fields with 30.1 seconds left, resulting in the fifth foul on Fields and giving Notre Dame possession with a six-point lead (in essence, clinching the win). Mabrey is Jersey Tough Freshman guard Marina Mabrey is quickly emerging as one of the top young players in the Atlantic Coast Conference, if not all of Division I basketball. The Belmar, New Jersey, native is averaging 13.4 points per game, which is tied for 15th in the ACC and second among conference freshmen. She also has scored in double figures six times this season, including a career-high 23 points (on 10-of-13 shooting) on Dec. 5 at top-ranked Connecticut. In that UConn game, Mabrey scored 21 points in the first half on 9-of-10 shooting, including a stretch of 12 consecutive points to highlight a 14-4 second-quarter run that helped give Notre Dame a trio of one-point leads. Mabrey also has proven to be a strong defender, ranking fifth in the ACC at 2.9 steals per game. That mark was highlighted by a school-record 12 steals as part of a tripledouble performance on Nov. 23 at Valparaiso (see following note). Mabrey was named to the Junkanoo Jam Freeport Division All-Tournament Team on Nov. 28 after averaging 18.5 points, 5.0 steals, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists with a.600 field-goal percentage,.750 three-point percentage and.833 free-throw percentage during wins over Denver and UCLA in the two-day event in Freeport, Bahamas. That effort, plus her triple-double earlier in the week, propelled Mabrey to earn ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 30. Mabrey s Historic Triple-Double Freshman guard Marina Mabrey posted the fifth triple-double in school history (first by a freshman) with 18 points, a school-record 12 steals and a career-high 10 assists on Nov. 23 at Valparaiso. Mabrey became just the second Fighting Irish player to record a triple-double using steals. Mary Gavin (17 points, 14 assists and 10 steals the previous school record for steals before Mabrey s effort) was the only other player to do so on Jan. 31, 1987, against Marquette. Mabrey s triple-double in her fourth career game tied for the second-quickest to start a career in NCAA Division I history only Schaquilla Nunn of Winthrop did so faster (third career game on Nov. 20, 2012, vs. Mississippi State at the Hardwood for Hope Tournament in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico). Mabrey was the second ACC freshman ever to record a triple-double, joining Duke s Elizabeth Williams (18 points, 16 rebounds and 12 blocks at Wake Forest on Jan. 6, 2012) in that elite company. Mabrey s 12 steals also are second on the ACC single-game steals list, and the most since Georgia Tech s Jill Ingram had 14 thefts (tying the NCAA Division I record) against Virginia Tech on Feb. 29, Mabrey s 12 steals tied for the second-most by a player in completing a triple-double, exceeded only by Old Dominion s Ticha Penicheiro (22 points, 15 assists, 14 steals) vs. Saint Francis (Pa.) in the first round of the NCAA Championship on March 13, Mabrey was the first Fighting Irish player with double-digit assists in a game since Feb. 24, 2013, when Skylar Diggins had 10 assists at DePaul as part of her second career triple-double (the most recent one by a Notre Dame player before Mabrey) Notre Dame Top Bench Scorers Player Points Opponent/Date Marina Mabrey 23 at Connecticut, 12/5/15 Marina Mabrey 19 vs. Denver, 11/27/15 Marina Mabrey 18 vs. UCLA, 11/28/15 Marina Mabrey 18 at Valparaiso, 11/23/15 Arike Ogunbowale 16 DePaul, 12/9/15 Arike Ogunbowale 16 at Valparaiso, 11/23/15 Marina Mabrey 16 Bucknell, 11/15/15 Mychal Johnson 12 DePaul, 12/9/15 Arike Ogunbowale 12 at Connecticut, 12/5/15 Arike Ogunbowale 10 #10/12 Ohio State, 12/2/15 Kristina Nelson 10 at Valparaiso, 11/23/15 Game-high scorers in italics Game #9 Recap: DePaul It goes in the record book as a win over another ranked team for No. 3 Notre Dame, but a nearcollapse in the second half did not sit well with coach Muffet McGraw. The Fighting Irish scored 65 points in the first half Wednesday night and built a 26-point lead over No. 18/17 DePaul, but had to hold off a furious Blue Demons rally down the stretch to come away with a victory. I thought we got complacent in the second half, and we can t do that, McGraw said. The defense was just absolutely unacceptable. Madison Cable had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Irish (8-1), who shot 76.5 percent from the field (26-of-34) in the first half, including 8 of 11 from 3-point range. Notre Dame broke the Blue Demons signature press during its fast start. DePaul opponents were averaging just over 60 points per game coming in, but the Fighting Irish hit 61 with 2:20 left in the first half. They were on fire, making tough, long shots, and we were giving up too many layups, De- Paul coach Doug Bruno said. We went back to traditional, straight man (defense) and that s really what stabilized us. DePaul (6-3) used a 19-5 run in the third quarter to get back into the game. Chanise Jenkins scored 21 points and Jessica January added 17 for the Blue Demons, who hit 9-of-13 3-pointers in the second half. Jenkins finished 4-for-6 from the arc. We said we can come back and win this thing, Jenkins said. There s no way we should be down that much so we buckled down. Notre Dame got 38 points off the bench, led by Arike Ogunbowale s 16. Freshman Marina Mabrey made her first career start and also finished with 16 points. Lindsay Allen added 12 points and eight assists. The Fighting Irish faced their third straight ranked opponent and now have won eight straight against the Blue Demons, who haven t beaten them since Notre Dame took control in the second quarter with a 23-4 run, including 14 straight capped by Michaela Mabrey s 3-pointer from the left wing. At that point, Notre Dame had made 22 of its 27 shots. The Fighting Irish had seven turnovers in the first seven minutes of the game, but also hit 11 of their first 12 shots and broke the DePaul press to take an eight-point lead on Ogunbowale s layup with 2:02 left in the first quarter. They pressed us in the first half and we handled that really well, McGraw said. Credit their defense, they changed what they were doing. Beyond The Box Score: DePaul Notre Dame s.765 field-goal percentage in the first half was the seventh-best mark for a single half (and third-best in the first half) of any game in school history, and the best shooting half since Dec. 30, 2011 (.800 in the first half at Mercer). Notre Dame has won 22 consecutive games decided by single digits and/or in overtime, including three of the past four games. The Fighting Irish are 41-6 (.872) against ranked opponents in the past four years. Notre Dame s 95 points were the most it has scored against a Top 25 opponent since Feb. 27, 2014, when it defeated No. 14/11 North Carolina, at Purcell Pavilion. The 185 combined points tied for the 10thmost in a Notre Dame game in program history and most since last year s regularseason game at DePaul (which the Fighting Irish won in overtime). This was the highest scoring regulation game (in terms of combined points) for Notre Dame since Jan. 19, 2008, when it earned a win at Georgetown, highest at Purcell Pavilion since Jan. 7, 1999 (a win over West Virginia, the school record for combined points in a game), and the highest against a ranked opponent since Dec. 4, 1999 (a win over No. 9/12 North Carolina at the Wachovia Women s Basketball Invitational in Richmond, Virginia. Notre Dame s 65 first-half points tied for the fourth-most by the Fighting Irish in any half in school history (third-most in the first half of any game) and most since they scored 66 points in the first half against Utah State on Dec. 8, Notre Dame s 34 first-quarter points were a season high for the Fighting Irish in any quarter. Notre Dame s 11 three-point field-goals tied its Purcell Pavilion record set twice before 7

(most recently on Jan. 23, 1999, against St. John s). DePaul s 16-of-16 free-throw performance was the best by a visiting team (and the first perfect shooting night from the line with a minimum of 10 attempts) in Purcell Pavilion history. Notre Dame shot a season-best.621 from the field. The Fighting Irish have won a series-long eight in a row against DePaul and are all-time against their Midwest rivals. Notre Dame s 95 points were its highest ever total in the DePaul series. This marked the eighth of the past 14 series games between Notre Dame and DePaul that was decided by single digits. The Fighting Irish won their 14th consecutive game coming off a double-digit loss and improved to (.827) since in that circumstance. Cable collected her third career doubledouble and second this year, both against Top 25 teams. Cable also tied her career high with five three-pointers, having first done so a week earlier against Ohio State. Ogunbowale tied her career high with 16 points, having first reached that total on Nov. 23 at Valparaiso. Marina Mabrey made her first college start. Sophomore guard Mychal Johnson played a career-high 28 minutes and logged her first double-digit scoring game since she had 13 points against Boston College on Jan. 11, New Rules To Live By The season marks a new era in NCAA women s basketball as several significant rule changes have been introduced. Here are just a few of the differences fans can expect: Four 10-minute periods, replacing the former two 20-minute halves. No more 1-and-1 bonus situations beginning with the fifth foul in each period, teams will shoot two free throws. The team foul counts also reset at the start of each period. Four team timeouts per game (one full, three 30-second eliminates one 30-second timeout), and only three carry over to the second half. Seven media timeouts (taken at the first deadball situation at or under 5:00 in each period, unless a team calls timeout first, which then replaces the media break). There also will be media timeouts at the end of the first and third periods, and on the first team-called timeout of the second half, no matter when it occurs all told, this results in two fewer media timeouts per game than previous seasons. The 10-second backcourt rule has been modified and the count will no longer reset when the ball is tipped out of bounds by the defense, a held ball is forced by the defense (with the offense maintaining possession) or the offense calls a timeout. With 59.9 seconds or less remaining in the game, teams may call timeout on a deadball situation (prior to inbounding the ball), after a made basket or immediately after grabbing a rebound (without dribbling or passing) and exercise the option to move their inbounds position up into the front court at the 28-foot mark (noted by a hashmark on the sideline near each team s bench). Polling Station Notre Dame is ranked No. 3 in this week s Associated Press poll, its 90th consecutive week in the top 10 of the media balloting (84 of those in the top five), dating back to the middle of the season and marking 160 consecutive weeks in the AP poll. The Fighting Irish continue to extend the program record for consecutive poll appearances that started with the AP preseason poll in (the old record was 59 consecutive weeks from ), while Notre Dame is one of six teams in the nation with an active streak of at least 150 consecutive AP poll appearances. Every current Notre Dame player has competed for a top-10 Fighting Irish squad throughout her career (64 consecutive weeks for the current senior class), spending the vast majority (58) of those appearances in the AP Top 5 (and never lower than seventh). This represents the 16th time in 17 years (starting with the campaign) that Notre Dame has appeared in the preseason AP poll, something only five schools in the nation have done Connecticut, Duke and Tennessee have shown up in all 17 during that span, while Stanford joins the Fighting Irish with 16 preseason AP poll berths. Notre Dame has been ranked in the AP poll for 299 weeks during the program s 39-year history, with every one of those appearances coming in the Muffet McGraw era (since ). McGraw is seventh among active NCAA Division I head coaches for weeks in the AP poll, and 14th alltime. AP Poll Appearances Active D-I Coaches 1. This marks the eighth consecutive season Notre Dame has been ranked in the top 10 of the WBCA/USA Today poll, as well as 14 of the past 18 campaigns ( to present). More Polling Data Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw is one of 33 people in NCAA Division I women s basketball history who have both played for and coached a team that has appeared in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. Besides her 299 AP poll appearances while coaching at Notre Dame, McGraw was the starting point guard at Saint Joseph s (Pa.) as a senior in 1977, helping the Hawks to No. 3 in the nation. Of the 33 people on this list, 18 currently are NCAA Division I head coaches (see accompanying chart), with McGraw and Baylor s Kim Mulkey the only active skippers to play for and coach a team in the AP poll, and coach that team to a national title (McGraw in 2001, Mulkey in 2005 and 2012). The Benefits Of Leadership Notre Dame is in the unique position of essentially having three head coaches on its bench, with current Fighting Irish skipper Muffet McGraw enjoying the expertise of AP Poll Appearances As Player & Coach (active coaches only) Amanda Butler (Florida) Michelle Clark-Heard (WKU) Cori Close (UCLA) Cynthia Cooper-Dyke (USC) June Daugherty (Wash. Collectively, the Notre Dame staff has 48 seasons of head coaching experience, which ranks third among Division I schools behind only Villanova (53) and Rutgers (49). Half And Half During the past 16 seasons, Notre Dame has been nearly unbeatable when it has the lead at halftime. The Fighting Irish are (.949) since the start of the campaign when they go into the dressing room with the lead, including wins in 281 of their last 294 such NCAA Division I Schools With Most Head Coach Experience 1. Villanova seasons (Harry Perretta-38; Joe Mullaney, Jr.-15) 2. Rutgers (C. Vivian Stringer-45; Tim Eatman-4) 3. u (Muffet McGraw-34; Beth Cunningham-9; Carol Owens-5) 4. North Carolina (Sylvia Hatchell - 41; Sylvia Crawley - 6) contests (.956) and an active 115-game winning streak. In the past seven seasons ( to present), Notre Dame is (.990) when leading at the half. The only losses in that time came on April 5, 2011, in the NCAA national championship game at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis (Notre Dame led Texas A&M, at intermission before falling 76-70), and Feb. 12, 2012, against West Virginia (Fighting Irish led at the break before the visiting Mountaineers rallied to win in the closing seconds, 65-63). The Best Offense Is A Good Defense During the past 21 seasons, Notre Dame has an amazing (.955) record when they hold their opponents below 60 points in a game, including an active 109-game winning streak in such games. The last time the Fighting Irish lost when allowing fewer than 60 points in a game was March 8, 2010, when they dropped a decision at No. 1 Connecticut in the BIG EAST Conference tournament semifinals at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. But Sometimes You Have To Score If You Want To Win During the past 21 seasons (since ), the Fighting Irish are (.971) when they score at least 80 points in a game. In that time, the only blemishes on that record are three overtime losses to Texas A&M (88-84) and Michigan State (87-83) in 1995 and UCLA (86-83 in double OT) in 2010, as well as a loss to Connecticut in 1998, an loss to DePaul in 2008, a setback at Baylor in 2011 and a defeat at Connecticut in In the past seven years ( to present), Notre Dame is (.974) when topping the 80-point mark, including wins in 80 of its last 81 such games (the lone setback come earlier this season, a loss at top-ranked UConn on Dec. 5, 2015, in the Jimmy V Classic). Now That s A Home Court Advantage One of the hallmarks of Notre Dame s success has been its stellar play at home. In fact, the Fighting Irish have been virtually untouchable at home in recent years, winning 274 of their last 304 games (.901), all but one game/win at the 9,149-seat Purcell Pavilion, including winning streaks of 51, 34, 25 and 20 games (plus a current 17-game run) in that span. Since Purcell Pavilion was renovated prior to the season, Notre Dame is (.943) including wins in 76 of its last 79 games and three of the six Fighting Irish losses in their refurbished facility have come by three points or fewer (two in overtime). Notre Dame has a (.876) record in regular season conference play at the former Joyce Center, sporting a program-record 31- game league winning streak at home before it ended with a loss to BIG EAST foe Villanova in the 2002 home finale. 9

The Fighting Irish have been especially strong when it comes to non-league home games, winning 132 of their last 142 outof-conference home contests (.930), dating back to the season. Five of the 10 losses in that span came at the hands of Big Ten opponents (four by 12 points or less) Wisconsin in 1996 (81-69), Purdue in 2003 (71-54), Michigan State in 2004 (82-73 OT), Indiana in 2006 (54-51) and Minnesota in 2009 (79-71) with the other defeats coming to Tennessee in 2005 (62-51) and 2008 (87-63), UCLA in 2010 (86-83 in 2OT), Baylor in 2012 (73-61) and Connecticut in 2014 (76-58). Since its inaugural season in , Notre Dame has played all but one of its games at the former Joyce Center, posting a (.823) record at the venerable facility. Fighting Irish Are Hottest Ticket In Town The past six seasons have seen an unprecedented surge in fan support for Notre Dame women s basketball, as the Fighting Irish set new program records for the highest year-end NCAA attendance ranking (fourth in and ), highest average attendance (8,979 fans per game in ) and most sellouts in a single season (11 in ). And, as the old saying goes you ain t seen nothin yet. For the seventh year in a row, Notre Dame fans all but exhausted the program s season ticket packages (approximately 7,500) and snapped up single-game ducats at a rate that has put the Fighting Irish in position to again post sellouts on a nightly basis. This year, Notre Dame ranks sixth in the nation in attendance, averaging 8,560 fans per game. That equated to 93.6 percent of Purcell Pavilion s capacity, the highest such percentage of any team in the country (aside from schools playing off-site home games or competing in larger secondary arenas). Gonzaga (91.9 percent) currently is the only other Division I school to fill its arena to better than 90 percent capacity this season. Oh Captain, My Captain Senior guard Michaela Mabrey, junior guard Lindsay Allen and junior forward Taya Reimer are serving as Notre Dame s team captains for the season. Mabrey is in her second season as a team captain, while Allen and Reimer received the captain s honor for the first time in their respective careers following a preseason vote by their teammates. This is the eighth time in 12 seasons the Fighting Irish have had a trio of captains, as well as the third year in a row (Mabrey joined Whitney Holloway and Markisha Wright in filling the captaincy trio last season). Irish Fans Crave Another Big Mac Attack Now in its ninth season, Notre Dame s wildlysuccessful Big Mac promotion once again looks to send fans home with full bellies, offering a coupon for a free Big Mac from South Bend-area McDonald s restaurants if the Fighting Irish score at least 88 points 10 in an regular season or exhibition game at Purcell Pavilion. In the nine-year history of the promotion, Notre Dame has hit the 88-point mark at home 64 times. Graduate student guard Madison Cable leads all current Fighting Irish players with six Big Mac Baskets during her career. And for those tracking such things (or perhaps falling under the heading of the athletics communications director has way too much time on his hands ), 29 different players have converted the burger ball, including seven current members of the Fighting Irish roster. Next Game: Saint Joseph s (Pa.) Notre Dame goes on a nine-day break, its longest of the season, for final exams before returning to action for its last game prior to the Christmas holiday at 7 p.m. (ET) Dec. 21 when the Fighting Irish travel to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph s. The game will serve as a homecoming for Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw, who is a 1977 SJU graduate and a member of the school s athletics and women s basketball halls of fame. It also will be the first time the Fighting Irish have played at Saint Joseph s since Dec. 30, Signees Erin Boley, a 6-2 forward from Hodgenville, Kentucky (Elizabethtown High School) and Jackie Young, a 6-0 guard from Princeton, Indiana (Princeton Community High School) both made their official commitments to Notre Dame during the early signing period, head coach Muffet McGraw announced Nov. 16. Both student-athletes are rated among the top 10 players in the country by various national recruiting services. As a group, this duo currently is ranked No. 3 by Prospects Nation, No. 5 by espnw Hoopgurlz, and is a top-five class by most major services for the fifth year in a row. It also gives Notre Dame a Top 25 class for the 20th consecutive year, a streak only two other schools in the country (Connecticut and Tennessee) can match. 23 Muffet McGraw Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Women s Basketball Coach 29th season at ND ( ,.761) 34th season overall ( ,.751) If we searched for an entire year, I don t think we would find anyone better suited for our program. With those words, former Notre Dame director of athletics Gene Corrigan announced the hiring of Muffet McGraw as the third head coach of the Fighting Irish women s basketball program on May 18, Corrigan may not have realized it at the time, but he also ushered in an era of unparalleled success in women s basketball at Notre Dame, brought to life on the shoulders of a 5-foot-6 dynamo who accepts nothing less than the very best from herself, her players and her program. Ask anyone familiar with women s basketball about Muffet McGraw and her Notre Dame program and inevitably, you ll hear the same two words consistency and excellence. And it s no wonder, when you consider what McGraw and the Fighting Irish have achieved in the past 29 seasons: The 2001 NCAA national championship, defeating Purdue in the title game, McGraw is one of seven active Division I coaches to guide her team to a national title. Five trips to the NCAA Division I national championship game, including four of the past five NCAA title contests (2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015). McGraw is one of just two active Division I coaches (and four all-time) with at least five appearances in the NCAA national championship game the other three Division I coaches (Tennessee s Pat Summitt, UConn s Geno Auriemma and Louisiana Tech s Leon Barmore) all are enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Seven trips to the NCAA Women s Final Four (1997, 2001, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). McGraw is one of just three active Division I coaches (and five all-time) to lead her team to seven Women s Final Four appearances. 13 NCAA Sweet 16 trips, all in the past 19 seasons ( ). The Fighting Irish are one of five teams in the nation to make that claim (and five to do so in the past six years). Three-time consensus National Coach of the Year, sweeping the four major coaching honors (Associated Press, WBCA, Naismith Award and USBWA) in 2001, 2013 and McGraw is the first NCAA Division I coach to sweep the Big Four awards three times in her career. Six-time conference Coach of the Year, most recently collecting her first ACC Coach of the Year trophy in McGraw has earned her six coaching honors in five different conferences during her career (the past five awards while at Notre Dame), having also garnered accolades in the East Coast ( at Lehigh), North Star (1988), Midwestern Collegiate/Horizon League (1991), BIG EAST (2001, 2013) and Atlantic Coast (2014) conferences. Ranks 10th all-time among NCAA Division I coaches (seventh among active coaches) with 795 career wins (through Dec. 10). Ranks 14th all-time among Division I coaches (12th among active coaches) with a.751 career winning percentage (through Dec. 10). Ranks eighth all-time among NCAA Division I coaches (tied for fifth among active coaches) with win seasons, including 25 of her first 28 seasons at Notre Dame with 20-or-more victories, as well as 21 in the past 22 years ( ). The Fighting Irish also have posted win seasons, seven 30-win campaigns and four 35-win seasons in the past 18 years ( ) under McGraw s tutelage. Made 22 NCAA tournament appearances, including a current string of 20 consecutive NCAA tournament berths (the fifth-longest active run of consecutive appearances and seventh-longest streak at any time in NCAA tournament history). During this current streak ( ), Notre Dame has won at least one NCAA postseason game 18 times. Won 10 conference regular-season titles, including the past four in a row outright in both the BIG EAST (2012, 2013) and ACC (2014, 2015). The Fighting Irish also ran the table twice in that span, going 16-0 in both the BIG EAST ( ) and ACC ( ), the latter being the first 16-0 record by an ACC school in 11 seasons. What s more, under McGraw s guidance, Notre Dame has placed among the top four in the final conference standings 25 times in her first 28 seasons at the Fighting Irish helm. Earned eight conference tournament championships, including each of the past three seasons as members of the BIG EAST (2013) and ACC (2014 & 2015). Collected 127 wins over ranked opponents, including 113 in the past 18 seasons ( through ). In addition, 51 of those wins have come against top-10 opponents, including 18 against top-five teams and four against No. 1-ranked squads. Made 299 appearances in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, including an active school-record streak of 160 consecutive weeks in the AP poll. McGraw is seventh among active Division I coaches and 14th all-time in AP poll appearances (through Dec. 7). Notre Dame also has spent 187 weeks all-time ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation, including 102 since (second-most this decade). Notre Dame is one of just three programs in the nation that owns an active streak of that length. Ranks second on the all-time wins list (regardless of sport) in the 128-year history of Fighting Irish athletics, trailing only the late Michael DeCicco ( combined record with men s/women s fencing from ). Far and away the winningest basketball coach (men s or women s) in school history, with noted men s skipper Digger Phelps second on that list (393 wins). A perfect 100-percent NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) score in seven of the past eight years ( ). In that time, Notre Dame is one of four programs in the country to record a perfect GSR and go on to play for the national title later that same season (something the Fighting Irish did in , , and ).
