This is the 75th season of Siena Basketball. 2) With a win tonight, Siena would clinch the program s first 20-win regular season since the MAAC Championship campaign. The Saints finished with 20 wins in capturing the CBI Championship two years ago, although five of those victories came during postseason play. 3) As a result of Sunday s other league outcomes, Siena clinched a First Round bye in the MAAC Tournament. With a win tonight over Iona, the Saints would clinch no worse than the No. 3 seed. 4) With three regular season games remaining, Siena can still be seeded anywhere from 2-5 in the MAAC Tournament. The No. 2 seed plays its first tournament game Friday, while the 3-5 seeds open on Saturday. 5) Brett Bisping became the 41st player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points in Friday s rout at Rider. Bisping has enjoyed a monster start to 2016, averaging a double-double with team highs of 18.7 points and 10.7 rebounds while also shooting 51.4% from the field and 49% from three-point range in the first 15 games of the calendar year. 6) Marquis Wright made his long awaited return to the Siena lineup Friday, scoring eight points while dishing out five assists in 27 minutes off the bench. Prior to suffering a stress fracture in his right foot Dec. 26, the Saints floor general had led the team in scoring (17.3), assists (4.6), steals (2.1) and threepoint shooting (54.8%). Siena weathered the storm in his absence however, posting a 10-5 record. 7) Siena has made a season-high 11 three-pointers in each of the last two games, shooting a stellar 53.7% (22-41) from distance. The 11 made threes were the program s most in a game in eight years, and the 22 made threes over a two-game span are the most in 10 years. 8) Javion Ogunyemi is averaging team-highs of 19.7 points and 59.7% shooting in the month of February (six games). 9) Ryan Oliver has shot (62.5%) from three-point range over the past five games. He now ranks fifth in the MAAC, shooting 40.6% from distance this season. 10) Siena went a perfect from the free throw line in Friday s win at Rider. The Saints snapped a seven-game losing streak in the series with an victory Feb. 13 in New Rochelle. Siena closed the game on a run to overcome a 12-point second half deficit en route to earning the program s first win over Iona since Jan. 23, 2012 and first victory in New Rochelle since Dec. 7, Siena is in search of the program s first regular season series sweep of Iona since The aels have swept the regular season series each of the previous three years. The Saints have a rich history in the National Invitational Tournament, making five postseason appearances. In 1994, the Saints rode hot-shooting guard Doremus Bennerman all the way to the semifinal round at Madison Square arden. Bennerman scored a school-record 51 points in the Saints victory over Kansas State in the third place game, and captured Tournament MVP honors after amassing an NIT-record 174 points in Siena s five games. Siena won the National Catholic Invitational Tournament in 1950, and finished the season with a 27-5 overall record. The 27 victories still tie for the most in program history.
