The contest will be the 61st between the Lady Bulldogs and the Gators, making Georgia s most familiar foe...just ahead of Tennessee with 59 matchups. Over the past four seasons, the Lady Bulldogs and Gators split their eight matchups, with the home team holding serve each time. In the most recent meeting last Feb. 19 in Gainesvillle, the No. 18 Georgia Lady Bulldogs dropped a decision to the Gators in a back-and-forth contest that featured nine ties and 15 lead changes. Jasmine James led Georgia with 15 points, four steals and three rebounds. Anne Marie Armstrong recorded 12 points and seven rebounds, while Meredith Mitchell notched 10 points and seven rebounds.

3 Lady Bulldogs vs. Game Notes Page 3 The Lady Bulldogs led with 2:47 remaining before the Gators closed out the contest on an 8-3 run, including making both ends of a pair of one-andones in the final 10 seconds. A box score from that contest as well as game-by-game results in the series can be found on Page 3 of these Game Notes. The last meeting in Athens was Jan. 12 last season when 19-point scoring efforts by both Armstrong and Khaalidah Miller led No. 19 Georgia in a victory over. The Lady Bulldogs led by 13 points at the intermission and maintained a comfortable advantage well into the second half. Georgia owned a edge with 11:50 left before a 9-0 run by the Gators saw pull within three. A trey by Miller and a jumper by Krista Donald put Georgia back up by eight. closed the gap to before a James free throw to start the final two minutes helped seal the Gators fate. Last time out... No. 13 Georgia suffered its first home loss of the season, 64-46, to No. 20 Texas A&M last Sunday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum. The Lady Bulldogs were led offensively by Jasmine Hassell with nine points, while Shacobia Barbee and Erika Ford tied for team-high rebounding honors with eight apiece. A jumper by Barbee tied the game at 8-8, before the Aggies went on a seven minute, 16-2 run that gave them a definitive lead with five minutes left in the half. Texas A&M capped the run off with three consecutive treys in just over a minute. Midway through the second half, Krista Donald then hit four free throws to help ignite a Lady Bulldog 14-2 surge that made the score 53-38, but the Aggies responded with a 6-0 spurt of their own to thwart the threat. Quoting Coach Landers... On facing.. is a very good basketball team and a very dangerous basketball team right now. They have two players in (Jaterra) Bonds and (Jennifer) George who are as good as anyone in this league at what they do. Then you have some freshmen who quite frankly you don t know what they are going to do. Their stats are productive, but there s not enough out there on them to know exactly how they might hurt you most. You look at their results and they ve lost three straight, but one of those was to Tennessee in overtime, one was a six-point loss to South Carolina which is what our game with Carolina easily could have been and one was when they let a point guard carve them apart. And in the last one they were down 16, 18 points and came back to get in a position to win. Background on Play 4Kay The 2013 Play 4Kay initiative (formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone) is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Since its inception back in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised more than $2 million to support women s cancer research. Kay Yow, legendary N.C. State head coach, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund raises money to further cutting-edge research conducted by the nation s top doctors and medical experts to allow more patients access to experimental drugs and clinical trials. The majority of these research projects are privately funded. The Fund, in partnership with the Women s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The V Foundation, is a charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the under served and unifying people for a common cause. Three days later, Georgia tallied 42 points total to top No. 18 South Carolina in the lowest scoring output in a victory in the 40-season history of the Lady Bulldog Basketball. Georgia scored a season-low 25 first-half points against the Gamecocks, not a startling fact considering South Carolina leads the SEC and ranks No. 3 nationally in scoring defense. What is somewhat concerning is the Lady Bulldogs first-half struggles since then. Georgia put up 19 points before intermission at, rallying from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat the Razorbacks by four. Last Sunday, Georgia scored just 16 first-half points against Texas A&M the Lady Bulldogs third season-low output in as many games. Hassell earns SEC accolade Jasmine Hassell was named SEC of the Week on Jan. 14 after averaging 20.0 points in the Lady Bulldogs previous two victories over No. 18 South Carolina and. Hassell scored 21 points against in Tuscaloosa, a career high against SEC competition. That bettered her previous mark of 20 points established versus both Tennessee in the 2011 SEC Tournament and Ole Miss her freshman year. The senior from Lebanon, Tenn., then scored 19 points versus South Carolina, accounting for 45 percent of the Lady Bulldogs total offense in the win. She did so while playing with a protective mask after suffering a slight nasal fracture during the game. For the week, Hassell connected on 15-of-22 (.682) of her FGs and 12-of-12 (.833) of her FTs. Hassell is the 23rd different Lady Bulldog to win SEC of the Week honors since the award s inception in Those players a list which also includes Anne Marie Armstrong and Jasmine James have combined to secure 44 SEC of the Week accolades. UGA in nation s top times Georgia is ranked among the nation s top-50 teams in 10 statistics, including five in the top 20. The Lady Bulldogs are No. 2 in turnover margin (+8.58), No. 11 in steals (12.8), No. 12 in scoring margin (+18.1), No. 15 in assist-to-to ratio (1.11), No. 20 in fewest TOs per game (14.0), No. 21 in scoring defense (52.2), No. 45 in scoring offense (70.3), No. 43 in assists (15.5), No. 46 in FG pct. (.426) and No. 49 in rebound margin (+5.5). Lady Bulldogs hit magic number Georgia has furthered one of the greatest statistical indicators in any sport six times this season. The Lady Bulldogs put up 80 or more points in wins over Savannah State, St. Bonaventure, Furman, Mercer, Lipscomb and to improve to when reaching the 80-point plateau under Andy Landers. That converts to an almost unfathomable winning percentage of It also highlights the Lady Bulldogs have hit that mark in more than half of Landers victories at UGA. Playing time being distributed A year ago, six Lady Bulldogs averaged between 20.0 and 34.5 minutes per game. All told, five players logged all 40 minutes a combined 25 times. This season, PT is being more equally distributed. Ten Georgia players are averaging between 12.6 and 27.8 minutes played per game. Most dramatically affected has been Jasmine James. James averaged 35.4 mpg during her first three seasons and played 30 minutes or more in 82 of 91 games played over that span. This season, James leads the team in MP but has only played 30 or more in eight of 19 contests. She did log all 40 minutes for the first time this season in Fayetteville since back-up Marjorie Butler was out with a slight knee injury. James joins UGA s top-20 scorers Jasmine James has ascended from No. 31 to No. 20 among UGA s career scoring leaders during Twice this season, James has passed multiple players on the Lady Bulldogs career scoring leaders ledger in a single game. During the victory over New Mexico, James 17 points leapfrogged her over No. 28 Pam Irwin-Osbolt, No. 27 Carla Green and No. 26 Cynthia Collins. At Tennessee, James moved ahead of both No. 21 Tawana McDonald and No. 20 Stacey Ford. James enters today s game with 1,276 points, which is 120 away from the current No. 19 tally of Camille Lowe. Hassell hits millennium as well Jasmine Hassell scored her 1,000th career point against Savannah State, becoming the 33rd Lady Bulldog to reach that milestone.

5 The former McDonald s and WBCA prep All-American from Wilson Central High in Lebanon, Tenn., has developed consistently throughout her career. Hassell averaged 6.2 ppg as a freshman, 9.6 ppg as a sophomore and a team-high 13.0 ppg as a junior. Hassell moved past Alexis Kendrick to No. 26 among the Lady Bulldogs career scoring leaders at. She has 1,170 points, four from No. 25 Sherelle Warren and 18 shy of No. 24 Angel Robinson. A milestone in the making Anne Marie Armstrong needs 106 points to become the third Georgia senior to reach 1,000 career points. Armstrong would join Jasmine James and Jasmine Hassell among the Lady Bulldogs 1,000-point club and make them the second trio of classmates to do so. James scored her 1000th point late last season at South Carolina and Hassell became the 33rd Lady Bulldog to reach the millennium milestone against Savannah State on Nov. 20. The only three classmates to top 1,000 points at UGA to date are the Class of 1997 s La Keshia Frett (1,850 points), Tracy Henderson (1,764) and Kedra Holland-Corn (1,566). Depth showing up elsewhere Georgia s depth has provided a big boost in a couple of specialty stats. The Lady Bulldogs bench has contributed 467 points, 201 more than the opposing teams reserves. Georgia has scored 463 points off of opponents turnovers, while giving up just 179 a massive +284 margin. Freshmen garnering PT Georgia s five freshmen have logged significant PT from the get-go, contributing 49 minutes against Rutgers in the season opener. McCLAIN JOINS NAISMITH HALL Katrina McClain, Georgia Basketball s first National of the Year and a threetime U.S. Olympian, was officially enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during ceremonies in Springfield, Mass., on Sept. 7. I had a great people in my life who helped me along the way, McClain said. Coach Landers. Wow. What can I say? I remember when he was recruiting me, Coach Landers told me I could be the greatest player in the world. He also told me if I wanted easy don t come to Georgia. He helped me really realize that you had to go out there and work hard. Coach helped us all understand that education came first. He stressed that, that we were there to get an education. And if we didn t get that, we didn t get to play. Still today, I can pick up the phone and call Coach Landers and we ll spend and hour on the phone, McClain continued. The only thing I didn t get when I was at Georgia was a national championship. I still hope that Coach Landers gets that national championship. Coach, I still pray that you get that national championship. McClain was among a dozen inductees including Reggie Miller and Ralph Sampson. When you have the God-given ability and put forth the blood, sweat and tears that Katrina McClain did, you re destined to do great things, Landers said. She s achieved a lot of wonderful accomplishments at Georgia and internationally and professionally but none any greater than her induction tonight. McClain s collegiate career provided the winningest four-year span in Lady Bulldog history. Georgia was from through and finished as 1985 NCAA runners-up and as 1984 and 1986 SEC Champions. I think of Georgia being the bulk of my career, McClain said on the red carpet entering the Symphony Hall. Of all I learned about basketball, I think learned the most from Coach Landers. Everyone in Athens from my teammates to the coaches to the academic staff like Glada (Horvat) who worked with us on our academics and helped us realize that our education was what was tops means so much to me. All told, Freshmen have played 1,336 minutes, accounting for 35.2 percent of the Lady Bulldogs play- Lady Bulldogs vs. Game Notes Page 5 ing time, a mark that would be higher if Merritt Hempe had not missed considerable time with a foot injury. The Lady Bulldogs first and still only full-time women s hoops head coach, Landers became the eighth coach men s or women s to secure 800 victories at a single Division I school as outlined below with active coaches in bold. That s an elite list of really special people, Landers said. I respect and admire each of them, but to be grouped or associated with them is not even part of my thought process. The Lady Bulldogs are 5-1 on television to date this season and still have remaing TV dates against Texas A&M (ESPN2), (twice on CSS), Kentucky (SEC Network), LSU (ESPNU), in Athens (SportSouth), Ole Miss (CSS) and Vanderbilt (ESPNU). Georgia is one of the nation s most televised teams. The Lady Bulldogs have appeared on TV more than 350 TV dates in the past 30 years, including more than televised contests during the past 18 seasons alone. Hall of Famers on sidelines The season opener against Rutgers featured a pair of women s basketball s most successful coaches. Andy Landers and C. Vivian Stringer are two of just seven major college women s basketball head coaches with more than 800 career victories and they currently rank second and third, respectively, in career wins among active coaches as outlined in the next column. Landers and Stringer haven t just won, they ve consistently won on the biggest stages. During their combined 78 seasons as head coaches, you ll also find: win seasons, 54 NCAA Tournament bids; 20 Elite Eight appearances; nine Final Four trips; and three NCAA runner-up finishes. winningest active coaches (through games Jan. 24) Rk. Our take on Landers career As Andy Landers approaches his 900th career win, the question will undoubtedly come up. Hey, the NCAA Records Book says that Andy Landers only has 795 career wins entering What gives? UGA politely disagrees with the NCAA on what constitutes Landers career as a collegiate head coach. Prior to arriving in Athens in 1979, Landers was in four seasons at Roane State, a junior college in Harriman, Tenn. UGA chooses and has since in 1979 to include Landers Roane State results in his career record. The NCAA does not recognize Landers wins at Roane because they were not secured coaching at a fouryear institution. Therefore, the NCAA says Landers career record includes only his efforts at Georgia. Opening with some Madness The season-opening matchup between Georgia and Rutgers pitted a pair of NCAA Tournament regulars. The Lady Bulldogs have appeared in 29 of 31 editions of March Madness since women s basketball came under the guidance of the NCAA with the season. Georgia ranks No. 2 nationally in NCAA bids and has Lady Bulldogs vs. Game Notes Page 7 earned NCAA invitations in each of the past 18 seasons. Rutgers has 23 NCAA Tournament bids on its postseason résumé, including 14 during C. Vivian Stringer s 17 seasons with the Scarlet Knights. Hassell s mom one of Bruins best Jasmine Hassell s mother, the former Gail Corder, is a prominent name throughout the women s basketball records book of Belmont Georgia s Nov. 18 opponent. UGA s history with The Pit The Lady Bulldogs trek to the University of New Mexico s Thanksgiving Tournament was Georgia Basketball s fourth trip to The Pit...and the second for the Lady Bulldogs. In 1983, the Bulldog men played in the Final Four in Albuquerque. The Bulldogs beat VCU in the round of 32 and then topped St. John s and North Carolina at the East Regional in Syracuse, N.Y., to advance to the Final Four. There, the Bulldogs were the other Cinderella and lost to an N.C. State team that went on to top Houston and win the national title. In 1983, Georgia became the first school to send both its men s and women s teams to the NCAA Final Four in the same season as the Lady Bulldogs advance to the Final Four in Norfolk, Va.
