The Pirates held a William & Mary squad about to embark on a quest for a third-straight CAA regular season crown to one goal for the second consecutive year. Against the host Cavaliers, SHU allowed only two goals in the run of play against a team that enters this weekend ranked #2 in the country. SETTING THE STANDARD Redshirt senior keeper Jennifer Pettigrew had a strong weekend that ultimately vaulted her near the top of the conference in several statistical categories. After helping to hold William & Mary to one goal in the opener, the Kearny product made a career-high 15 saves to limit Virginia to their lowest offensive output of the season. Her 15 stops were also a tournament record and are tied for the fourth-highest single match total in the nation this season. She now leads the BIG EAST with 31 saves and is second with 5.17 stops per game. PAIR OF PIRATES NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM Senior midfielder Ashley Clarke and freshman defender Cathy Chukuka were named to the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team. Clarke, who logged a routine 180 minutes over the two matches in Charlottesville has been the driving force behind the Pirates offense this season. Chukuka played all but four minutes at the back, delivering two more exceptional defensive performances. GOLDEN In Princeton and Delaware, the Pirates next two outings yield opponents who Seton Hall defeated in extra time when the teams last squared off. Almost exactly two years prior to Thursday night s contest, then sophomores Amie Ruhe and Katie Ritter combined on a winner with just over 90 seconds to play in the second extra period with Ritter doing the honors in a 2-1 victory. Last season, Ashley Clarke sent SHU to a fifth-straight win with her strike in the first OT. HOME COOKING A return to Owen T. Carroll after three straight road games inside a seven-day span may ignite the Seton Hall offense. The Pirates have scored two goals per game at home while managing just 0.50 goals per contest away from South Orange. MAIN ATTRACTION Due to spectacular turnout form the SHU faithful, the Pirates currently rank first in the BIG EAST in average home attendance by a wide margin. An average of 989 fans have come out to cheer on The Hall in their appearances at Owen T. Carroll Field, 480 more than the next closest team (St. John s) and nearly 600 higher than the conference-wide average. Seton Hall (836) trails only Marquette (915) in average attendance to all games, including road and neutral matchups. ANSWERING THE CALL Sophomore defender Melissa Blevins has assumed a greatly expanded role in year two of her collegiate career, providing a key presence for The Hall in the back. Blevins has played in all six matches and made five starts this season after totaling nine appearances as a freshman. HELPING HANDS The SHU offense has benefited from a number of well-worked sequences in the early going as along with creating an abundance opportunities, all six of the team s goals to this point have been assisted BIG EAST STANDINGS (THROUGH ) BIG EAST OVERALL W L D Pts. 4 GETTING OUT IN FRONT The Pirates excelled at protecting the lead in 2012, winning five of six matches in which they got on the board first. Conversely, the team was just 2-9 when conceding the first goal. six of SHU s 10 goals allowed have been scored in the opening 45 and the Pirates have seen five of their first six 2013 opponents collect the opening score; resulting in a record in those matches. NEW NO MORE Freshmen Sarah Cortes, Frankie Maier and Cathy Chukuka, have seen plenty of action over the first four matches for SHU, playing a key part at every level of the Pirates lineup. Cortes is second on the team with 10 shots from her forward position and has an assist to her credit while Maier has started every match in the midfield and opened her scoring account with a goal vs. Army. Chakuka has played all but 13 of a possible 560 minutes in defense so far this season. CONFERENCE PLAY APPROACHES Following Sunday s tilt at Delaware, the Pirates will have just one more non-conference game remaining; a mid-week matchup with Marist at home on Sept. 18. Five of SHU s nine league games in the first year of new-look BIG EAST will be at home as Seton Hall will play host to Providence (9.26), Butler (9.29), Creighton (10.6), Marquette (10.17) and Villanova (10.20) while traveling to play DePaul (10.3) and Xavier (10.12) mid-season before closing the year at St. John s (10.26) and at Georgetown (11.2) BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP Despite the removal of divisions from the conference model, six teams will steal advance to the postseason tournament. The top two will receive a bye while the remaining four will participate in quarterfinal matches on November 5 hosted by the higher seed. Marquette will be the site for the semifinals (11.8) and championship (11.10). COACHING STAFF ADDITIONS As head coach Kazbek Tambi enters his seventh season at the helm of the Seton Hall women s soccer program, he will be accompanied on the sidelines by two coaches entering their first year in South Orange. Former assistant coach Rick Stainton accepted the head coaching position at Fairleigh Dickinson in the offseason, bringing fellow assistant Christina Reuter with him. Tambi turned to Kevin Leacock, a former player at Long Island University and former FDU standout Marguerite Ferrell, who has also played and coached on the professional level, to fill out his staff. 12 Exhibition Match 1 SETON HALL - 4 Exhibition Match 2 SETON HALL - 5 Match 1 SETON HALL - 5 DREXEL - 1 Wednesday, August 14 Owen T. Carroll Field South Orange, N.J. SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women s soccer team got its first taste of competition leading up to the 2013 season on Wednesday afternoon; finishing as 4-1 winners over visiting Drexel in the first of two exhibition matches on the schedule. In the exhibition setting, the match was broken down into three 30-minute periods. Freshman Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.) made her first appearance as a Pirate a memorable one when she collected a loose ball and found the back of the net on a shot from the left side of the area, putting SHU on top for good. Midfielder Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) was credited with an assist on the play, the first of two helpers for the senior in the period. Maier s tally was the first of two goals scored in similar fashion during a five-minute span for SHU, as in the 14th minute Clarke connected with classmate Meghan Hayes (Fredon, N.J.) to help double the advantage. Hayes found space on the left side of the box and beat DU starting keeper Eve Badana to widen the gap. The first period also saw the return of Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) for the Pirates, who saw her first action in over a year after missing last season due to a knee injury. Pettigrew logged a scoreless 30 minutes, highlighted by a sliding challenge at the edge of the six-yard box that ended a Drexel threat after they had momentarily found space behind the Pirates back line. Less than a minute after the whistle to start the third period, Clarke provided the final service once again, this time linking up with Amanda Gulli who struck to increase the lead to three. In possession near the touchline to the right of goal, Clarke sent a ball across the area that found Gulli who redirected it, sending it back in the direction it came and leaving the keeper no chance as it nestled into the right side of the net. It was the third assist of the afternoon for Clarke, who picked up right where she left off after finishing last season as the team s leading scorer and tying the all-time single season record with eight assists on the year. The Dragons managed to pull one back with just over nine minutes remaining when forward Shyanne Kimbrough erased the shutout but the Pirates would add another when Klemme left the keeper stranded with a deft strike from the corner flag that ended up in the back of the net, putting the final touches on an impressive first outing. RIDER - 1 Sunday, August 18 Owen T. Carroll Field South Orange, N.J. SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women s soccer team looked to be in mid-season form on Sunday afternoon as the Pirates found the back of the net five times during a commanding performance against visiting Rider, finishing as 5-1 victors. Though SHU kept the visitors pinned down in their own end for the better part of the opening quarter-hour, it was Rider who broke through first when they took advantage of a counter attack, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute against the run of play. The lead was short lived however as three minutes, later the same duo that linked up to get Seton Hall on the board in the opener against Drexel combined to provide the first of what would be five unanswered goals for the hosts. The initial response came when senior midfielder Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) found freshman Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.) who worked into space on the left side of the area and let go a shot that nestled into the bottom right corner, pulling the Pirates level at 1-1. SHU continued to apply consistent pressure on the Rider goal and nearly moved ahead in the 24th minute when a right-footed effort from Meghan Hayes (Fredon, N.J.) sailed just high. Just before the half-hour mark Hayes would again prove too much for the Rider defense to handle, this time finding the final touch that had previously eluded her. Soon after drawing a foul in Rider s defensive half, Hayes eventually got on the end of a set-piece that originated with a well-placed ball from sophomore D Yonna Riley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and redirected it near post past the Rider keeper, putting the Pirates on top for good. Seton Hall would add another tally before the intermission on a great display of individual skill from Clarke as the Paramus native carried the ball through the attacking third, leaving a number of Rider defenders in her wake before picking her spot and slotting one home just inside the left post from the right side of the box. Senior Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) found a second gear after re-entering the game as a substitute in the final frame, putting the defense on notice when she broke through the back line to create a point blank opportunity that was ultimately denied. Undeterred, Ritter kept working up to the final ticks; finally breaking through with just over three minutes to go to increase the lead to 4-1. The Hagerstown product made it a double before the final whistle, taking full advantage of a defensive lapse in the 89th minute to put the garnish on an impressive preseason showing that saw SHU outscore its opponents 9-2 over 180 minutes of action. STONY BROOK - 1 Friday, August 23 Owen T. Carroll Field South Orange, N.J. SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The 2013 Seton Hall women s soccer team came away with a 2-2 draw against defending America East champions Stony Brook in their first match of the new campaign. Stony Brook got on the board first behind an eighth minute strike from Stella Norman that came against the run of play. SBU took advantage of one of the few opportunities they had created to that point in the match, capitalizing on a foul committed by The Hall deep in its own zone and using a quick restart to sneak one by keeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.). Less than five minutes after Norman s tally, Stony Brook forward Larissa Nysch found space in behind the Pirates back line, collecting a pass from teammate Megan Rea in stride just outside the six-yard box and slotting it past Pettigrew and inside the near post to double the Pirates deficit. The two-goal spread didn t last long as in the 19th minute, seniors Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) and Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) combined on a brilliant sequence that brought Seton Hall back to within one. Ritter held the ball up well from her center forward position and with her back to goal, laid the ball off to a rushing Clarke who opened the scoring ledger for The Hall with a perfectly placed right-footed rocket from outside the top of the area. The goal was the eighth that the Paramus product has scored in a Seton Hall uniform, and a fitting start to the new year after she finished as the team s leading scorer in With the score still stuck at 2-1 in Stony Brook s favor, it was another bit of magic from the duo of Clarke and Ritter that put the teams back on level terms. Clarke, who tied the school s single season assists record with eight in her junior season, played a dangerous ball into the Stony Brook area, forcing SBU keeper Ashley Castanio to commit to coming off her line. Ritter was able to win the race to the ball and with a sliding touch, tuck a shot inside the far post to bring the score to 2-2 with nearly 65 minutes gone. With the score, Ritter now sits in a tie for third on the school s all-time goals list with 17 to her name. Also, her three-point night brought her to 38 for her career and within a single point of cracking the top-five on the points list. The assist also moved Clarke into a tie with former teammate Nicki Gross for third-most in school history, giving her 13 in her career. 1 2 OT F Stony Brook (0-0-1) Seton Hall (0-0-1) SBU: Stella Norman, 7:44 SBU: Larissa Nysch (Meagn Rea), 12:39 SHU: Ashley Clarke (Katie Ritter), 18:23 SHU: Katie Ritter (Ashley Clarke), 64:35 Goalkeepers Saves SBU: Ashley Castanio (110:00) 10 SHU: Jennifer Pettigrew (110:00) 4 SBU SHU Shots Saves 11 5 Corners 2 6 Offsides SETON HALL PIRATES WOMEN S 12

13 Match 2 SETON HALL - 0 Match 3 SETON HALL - 2 Match 4 SETON HALL - 2 LIU-BROOKLYN - 1 Monday, August 26 LIU Field Brooklyn, N.Y. ARMY - 0 Friday, August 30 Owen T. Carroll Field South Orange, N.J. MONMOUTH - 3 Monday, September 2 The Great Lawn West Long Branch, N.J. BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Seton Hall women s soccer team suffered its first defeat of the 2013 season on Monday night, dropping a 1-0 decision to reigning Northeast Conference champions LIU-Brooklyn at LIU Field. For the second-straight match, the Pirates (0-1-1) held a double-digit advantage in shot attempts but the looks at net did not translate into goals for SHU. The Hall got off nine shots in each half against the Blackbirds, finishing with an 18-8 edge for the night. In the 23rd minute, senior Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) produced an effort that forced a stop from Sexton and resulted in an SHU corner, the fourth for the Pirates to that point in the proceedings. Seton Hall limited the hosts to only one attempt on goal the rest of the half and got another chance to jump ahead just before half as Sexton was called into action again by a shot from freshman Sarah Cortes (Paramus, N.J.), but the Blackbirds senior keeper was up to the task once again and the teams headed into the break in a scoreless stalemate. Senior Marie Klemme (Berlin, Germany) got the first look at goal for either team after a defensive start to the final 45 but her 58th minute effort sailed wide. SHU captain Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) made her second save of the night just over a minute later but soon after another corner kick that saw the Pirates come up empty handed, LIU-Brooklyn would start the sequence that led to the only score of the game off a set piece of their own. The play started as the Blackbirds sent a free kick from the midfield line into a crowded right side of the Seton Hall area. Several clearance attempts were thwarted, and after her initial effort was blocked, LIU-Brooklyn s Sydney Ciufo needed just one touch to send another shot screaming towards net, beating Pettigrew far post from 20 yards out with just under 27 minutes remaining. The Pirates doubled up the Blackbirds 6-3 in shots and earning three more corners after falling behind. Perhaps the best chance came in the 89th minute when senior Meghan Hayes (Fredon, N.J.) provided a tough test with a well-placed shot but Sexton again had the answer, going full stretch to push it over the bar. It was one of three saves that she made in the final five minutes as the Pirates pushed to draw level. The night ended with SHU also enjoying an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks over LIU-Brooklyn (1-1-0) but Sexton s eight saves proved to be the difference. The teams have now split a pair of meetings over the last two years after the Pirates blanked the Blackbirds 2-0 in the 2012 opener for both squads. Pettigrew made three stops for The Hall and Cortes finished with a team-high four shots. 1 2 OT F LIU-Brooklyn (1-1-0) Seton Hall (0-1-1) LIU: Sydney Ciufo, (63:02) Goalkeepers Saves LIU: Amanda Sexton (90:00) 8 SHU: Jennifer Pettigrew (90:00) 3 LIU SHU Shots 8 18 Saves 8 3 Corners 1 8 Offsides 2 0 SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. It was a day of firsts for the Seton Hall women s soccer team on Friday afternoon as the Pirates blanked Army, 2-0, to pick up their first win of the new campaign. The first half was completely dominated by The Hall as SHU limited Army to just one shot on goal while managing 10 of their own in the opening period. Less than a minute into the action, freshman Sarah Cortes (Paramus, N.J.) was played in on goal and rifled a shot off the right post; a precursor to several more quality opportunities the Pirates would create on the day. Senior Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) forced a save from Army keeper Jordan Cassalia in the second minute and classmate Amie Ruhe (Monrovia, Md.) narrowly missed putting Seton Hall on top with a speculative effort in the sixth minute. With nearly 13 minutes gone, midfielder Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) played in a cross from the left wing that dropped into an open area allowing a rushing Meghan Hayes (Fredon, N.J.) to one-touch the ball into the roof of the open net, giving The Hall an early one-goal lead. The goal was the first of the season for Hayes and the third of her career. It was also the first time the Pirates have struck first in 2013, as the team improved to 6-1 in the last seven matches in which they have claimed the opening goal. The assist was the second in three games for Clarke who has directly factored into three of the Pirates four goals on the season and now leads the squad with four points. With 14 for her career, she is now tied with Courtney Wood for second in school history and trails only international women s soccer legend Kelly Smith who recorded 22 assists during her time in South Orange. Marie Klemme (Berlin, Germany) got her head on the end of a ball in the 34th minute that almost expanded the lead to two, but her effort sailed just high. Less than a minute later, the Pirates took full advantage of another quality look at the Army goal and it was Hayes again at the center of the scoring play for Seton Hall. Hayes played a ball in behind the defense and into the path of freshman Frankie Maier (Oradell, N.J.) who sized up her chance and floated a shot over the rushing keeper and inside the far post for the first goal of her career. The Pirates went on to outshoot Army 5-4 in the second half but other than a header off a corner kick that Ruhe blocked off the line near the far post, goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) and a rotation of players at the back never appeared threatened. Pettigrew tied a season-high with four saves on the night en route to her first shutout of the season. The clean sheet is also the seventh of her career; moving her to within one of claiming sole possession of fourth on the school s all-time list. 1 2 OT F Army (1-2-0) Seton Hall (1-1-1) SHU: Meghan Hayes (Ashley Clarke), (12:51) SHU: Frankie Maier (Meghan Hayes), (34:20) Goalkeepers Saves ARMY: Jordan Cassalia (90:00) 3 SHU: Jennifer Pettigrew (90:00) 4 ARMY SHU Shots 6 15 Saves 3 5 Corners 6 4 Offsides 3 5 WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - For the second time this season, seniors Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) and Ashley Clarke (Paramus, N.J.) were instrumental in helping the Seton Hall women s soccer team erase an early two-goal deficit but the comeback fell short for the Pirates on Monday night as host Monmouth University came away with a 3-2 win. Monmouth got on the board just ahead of the seven-minute mark as Alexis McTamney got on the end of a cross from Dana Costello and re-directed it into the bottom right corner to help the Hawks jump out to a 1-0 lead. Just over 10 minutes later, McTamney added a second, putting the Pirates in a 0-2 hole. SHU goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.), who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll earlier in the day, was there to stop the initial shot but McTamney got to the rebound and sent it home to double her tally. Less than eight minutes after freshman Sarah Cortes (Paramus, N.J.) got the squad s first look at goal on the night, she linked up with Clarke and Ritter to pull the Pirates back to within one. The goal came in the 32nd minute when Ritter got her end on the head of a cross and beat MU keeper Ashley Lewis for her second score of the season. The assists were career landmarks for both Cortes and Clarke as the freshman recorded her first collegiate point on the play while Clarke s helper was the 15th of her career, the second-highest individual total in program history. The equalizer didn t come long after the restart as just over six minutes into the second half, Ritter found the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2. The scoring play started with a feed from senior Meghan Hayes (Fredon, N.J.) who played it forward allowing Ritter to take on and beat her defender, leaving her with just the keeper to beat and she did just that; matching McTamney with her second of the night. The goals were the second and third of the season for the Hagerstown product, matching her total from all of last year. She is now in sole possession of third place on the school s all-time goals list, needing just one more to join Courtney Wood ( 95-98) and Kelly Smith ( 97-99) as the only players to score 20 goals for the Pirates. It was the second assist for Hayes in as many games and her fourth point over the last two matches after she scored the game-winner against Army before assisting on the insurance goal in a 2-0 victory last time out. The Hawks came up with what would prove to be a winner in the 78th minute when Brianne Boyle let one go from about 25 yards out, putting it out of Pettigrew s reach and into the top corner to give her team the decisive 3-2 advantage. 1 2 OT F Monmouth (3-0-0) Seton Hall (1-2-1) MU: Alexis McTamney (Dana Costello), (6:55) MU: Alexis McTamney (17:06) SHU: Katie Ritter (Ashley Clarke, Sarah Cortes), (31:17) SHU: Katie Ritter (Meghan Hayes), (51:12) MU: Brianne Boyle (Monique Goncalves), (77:13) Goalkeepers Saves MU: Ashley Lewis (90:00) 2 SHU: Jennifer Pettigrew (90:00) 4 MU SHU Shots Saves 2 4 Corners 4 4 Offsides SETON HALL PIRATES WOMEN S 13

14 Match 5 SETON HALL - 0 WILLIAM & MARY - 1 Friday, September 6 Klöckner Stadium Charlottesville, Va. CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - Defense was the order of the day on Friday afternoon in the opener of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic as the Seton Hall women s soccer team was edged by William & Mary, 1-0. The Pirates (1-3-1) limited the Tribe to seven shots in the match, marking the third time that SHU has held its opponent to single-digit attempts through five matches in Seton Hall recorded 10 tries at goal but none found the target and William & Mary ultimately prevailed behind a 71st minute strike. Opportunities were limited for both sides in the first half as the teams went into the break with a combined five attempts. SHU s two attempts in the opening 45 came off the feet of senior forward Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) inside the first 10 minutes of action. Ritter, who entered the day among the top-10 in the BIG EAST in shot attempts in addition to being the Pirates leading scorer, got two looks at the W&M net that were separated by about five minutes but both efforts traveled wide of the woodwork. The Hall also had three corner kicks in the half, but was unable to convert. Senior keeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) was up to the task the one time she was tested in the period, stonewalling the Tribe s Dani Rutter in the 20th minute. Following the intermission, the Pirates turned up the pressure, doubling the Tribe s shot output from the restart to the final whistle. The barrage started in the 52nd minute when Amie Ruhe (Monrovia, Md.) worked an opportunity but saw her effort clear the crossbar. Sophomore defender D Yonna Riley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) found herself in an advanced position nearly 11 minutes later and headed a ball towards goal, only to see it pass the outside of the post. In the 71st minute it was a header from William & Mary forward that undid the Pirate defense and gave the Tribe what proved to be the decisive advantage. Forward Katie Johnston re-entered the game for W&M following a Seton Hall foul and 40 seconds later she got her head on a cross from teammate Emory Camper and was able to slot it past Pettigrew. SHU pressed furiously for the equalizer, launching six shots from five different players over the final 20 minutes. The Pirates were nearly rewarded with less than four minutes remaining as substitute Angie Shehaj (East Brunswick, N.J.) had her shot blocked and freshman Cathy Chukuka (Marlboro, N.J.) followed soon after with a crack of her own that sailed high. The loss marks the second consecutive year that Seton Hall has been nipped by CAA power William & Mary (2-1-1), 1-0, on a neutral field after the two teams played to the same result in Philadelphia last season. 1 2 OT F William & Mary (2-1-1) Seton Hall (1-3-1) W&M: Katie Johnston (Emory Camper, Dani Rutter), 70:02 Goalkeepers Saves W&M: Caroline Casey (45:00) 0 SHU: Jennifer Pettigrew (110:00) 1 W&M SHU Shots 7 10 Saves 0 1 Corners 4 4 Offsides 4 0 Match 6 SETON HALL - 0 #5/#4 VIRGINIA - 3 Sunday, September 8 Klöckner Stadium Charlottesville, Va. CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. A third-minute strike from Makenzy Doniak gave #5/#4 Virginia an early lead that they would not relinquish, as the Cavaliers defeated the Seton Hall women s soccer team, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Virginia Nike Soccer Classic. Despite the score line, redshirt goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) delivered a standout performance against the unbeaten hosts as UVa. kept the SHU net under consistent pressure on the day. Doniak s tally came just 145 seconds into proceedings as she collected a through ball from midfielder Morgan Brian - who is a fresh off an appearance with the U.S. Women s National Team earlier in the week and sent home a right-footed strike for her fourth goal of the season. Senior forward Katie Ritter (Hagerstown, Md.) threatened to level the score for The Hall in the 13th minute but her shot was turned away by UVa. keeper Morgan Stearns. Over the next nine minutes following Ritter s try at goal, Virginia launched seven shots at the Pirates net and on the seventh, Brian stretched the home team s lead to 2-0 as the beneficiary of a piece of build-up play for the Cavaliers. Doniak fed teammate Danielle Colaprico who played Brian in with a through ball and the junior curled a right-footed strike into the upper 90 and outside of the reach of Pettigrew. Heading into halftime, Pettigrew denied five consecutive shots for the Cavaliers; a stretch highlighted by sequence where she stoned Morgan Reuther twice in quick succession as the Kearny product helped hold the margin at 2-0 when the whistle blew for intermission. In the 55th minute, sophomore Amanda Gulli (Toms River, N.J.) found herself in on goal with a chance to slice the deficit in half but she was unable to get past Danielle DeLisle who took over in net for Virginia to start the second half. With just over 16 minutes played in the second period, freshman Cathy Chukuka (Marlboro, N.J.) was whistled for a foul inside the SHU area. Brian stepped up and put the ball on the spot for the penalty kick and increased the lead to 3-0 with a shot that beat Pettigrew to the right. Pettigrew made five more saves before the end of the match, finishing the afternoon by stopping the final 12 shots she faced in the run of play; setting a new career-high by saving 15 of the 18 shots the Virginia put on target. Her 15 saves are the most in a single-game by any goalkeeper in the 26-year history of the tournament.
