2 Winter Carnival 2016 MESSAGE FROM THE 2016 WINTER CARNIVAL VOLUNTEERS: On behalf of the volunteers who have come together to make this year s events possible, we are excited to welcome you to the 27th Annual Schreiber Winter Carnival. This year s festivities officially kick off with the opening ceremonies spaghetti supper on Saturday, February 27th at 7:00pm. New for this year is a light show skating party, NHL 16 Life Sized video game tournament and Hike to Christmas Tree Lookout. We are also pleased to welcome back the sculpting contest- winners will be announced at the Stars on ice event on Sunday, March 6 th. Thank you to all of the sponsors and donors who have come forward to make these events successful; without you, this would not be possible. There is something for everyone this week, so get off the couch and enjoy the festivities! MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR Welcome to the 27th Annual Schreiber Winter Carnival- the best annual winter festival on the North Shore! As always, our great committees and volunteers have come together to provide a full line-up of great events for us to enjoy. 3 CARNIVAL BUTTONS 27 Years of Winter Fun Purchase a Carnival Button and ribbon for only $2.00. Buttons are available at the Schreiber Municipal Office~ Voyageur Gift Shop~ Speziale Pro Hardware~ Schreiber Public Library~ Spadoni Homeland Furniture~ and Dollar Store CARNIVAL ROYALTY Purchase a button for only $2 and receive a ballot to cast your vote. This year, the prince and princess will be selected via a random draw. However, you will have the option to purchase as many ballots as you wish for an additional.50c per ballot!! All children from Schreiber in JK, SK and Grade 1 will be eligible to win this year. 4 FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 26 th 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM Event: Luncheon and Penny Auction Hosted by: McCuaig Ladies in support of Furget-me-not Animal Shelter Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Admission: $8.00 per plate Audrey and the ladies are busy and at it again! On the menu today are their famous homemade panzerottis, served with salad and dessert for one low price. During the event the furget-me-not Animal Shelter in Terrace Bay will be hosting a penny auction. Winners will be announced after lunch at 1:30 p.m. 6:00 PM Local Artisans will be showcasing their artwork during the luncheons all week! Event: Legion Games Night Hosted by: Schreiber Royal Canadian Legion and The Schreiber Fire Dept. Location: Schreiber Royal Canadian Legion Admission: $5.00 entry fee for any two games Prizes will be given out. $5.00 entry fee for any 2 Games ~ choose from Pool, Shuffle Board, Cribbage or Fuse Ball. 5 Main ST SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27 th 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Event: Sliding Party Hosted by: Schreiber Fire Department Location: Winnipeg Street Sliding Hill Come participate in this great afternoon of family fun! Bring your GT or toboggan, sled or whatever can get you down the hill! This event has become a carnival favourite! Hot Dogs and Hot Chocolate will be available for purchase compliments of the Schreiber Fire Department. 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Event: Hike to Christmas Tree Lookout Hosted by: Township of Schreiber Location: See Picture Provided Friends and family will gather together at the bottom of the famous Christmas tree hill and will hike to the top. At the top of the hill, hot chocolate will be available as well as a group photo. Scotia ST Galena ST

6 SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27 th 7:00 PM 2016 OPENING CEREMONIES AND TRADITIONAL SPAGHETTI AND MEATBALL SUPPER! Event: Pasta Dinner & crowning of 2016 Royalty Hosted by: Schreiber Parks and Recreation Committee Location: Recreation Centre Admission: $10 Adults; $7 Children 5 to 12; 4 and under eat free. Noodles or penne with meatballs, served with salad and a dessert. Come try our homemade pasta and bring the whole family. This is one night where it is ok to let loose and Mangia!!! After dinner, we will be drawing names for the lucky 2016 Carnival Royalty Winners!!

7 SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 28th 1:00 PM Event: Life-Sized EA Sports NHL 16 Virtual Gaming Tournament Hosted by: Activation Revitalization Committee Location: Schreiber Municipal Gymnasium (Schreiber Theatre) Admission: Free, Drop in and Play Teams will be created between 2 and 5 players for this all day gaming tournament featuring EA Sports NHL 16. Top team will receive a prize! 3 screens will be running at any given time, with some round robin and most playoff games being played on our giant Blu-ray quality screen nearing 20 feet in height and diameter. Food and drinks will be available all day. 2:00 PM Event: Penny Auction Hosted by: Holy Angels CWL Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Admission: $1.00 per card Drop your tickets on a variety of exciting prizes then wait to see if your number is called. Doors open at 12:30pm with the calling beginning at 2:00pm. Back by Popular Demand our Elephant Ears!!! $4.00 each 6:00 PM Event: BINGO Hosted by: STBFC Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Admission: $20.00 Doors open at 6:00pm and calling will commence at 7:00pm. Refreshments will be available for purchase. You must be 18 or older to attend.

8 MONDAY, FEBRUARY 29 th 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM Event: Luncheon Hosted by: St. John s ACW Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Admission: $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 12 and under Start the week off right! Meet for lunch at the Rec Centre for warm soup, delicious sandwiches and dessert. Beverage included. 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Event: Senior s Movie Matinee Hosted by: Schreiber Public Library Location: Schreiber Theatre Admission: Free 6:00 PM Event: Public Skating Party with Hot Chocolate and Full Concession Hosted by: Schreiber Activation and Revitalization Committee Location: Schreiber Arena Admission: Free Bring the family out for this new for 2016 event! Don t forget to wear your hockey jersey as you skate with a light display and music in the background. Warm up with food & drinks from Annie s concession

9 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM Event: Luncheon and Craft Sale TUESDAY, MARCH 1 st Hosted by: Auxiliary to the McCausland Hospital and Jason Nesbitt of the Investors Group. Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Admission: $8.00 Adults, $4.00 Children 12 and under Come and enjoy a hearty down home cold plate lunch with your choice of a variety of homemade desserts. The Hospital Gift Shop will also have a table selling everyone s favourites. 6:00 PM Event: Junior Pictionary and Cake Walk Hosted by: Schreiber Activation and Revitalization Committee Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Admission: $10.00 per team (Adult Captain MUST accompany team) The children take the markers in hand and enjoy the game of Pictionary - JK to Grade 8 welcome- 4 person team. The Schreiber Public Library is hosting this year s Cake Walk. Concession open!

10 WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2 nd 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM Event: Luncheon Hosted by: Schreiber Public Library Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Admission: $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 12 and under Mid-Week of the Carnival and the SPL is serving a variety of pizzas, with salad, dessert and beverage. Proceeds will go towards a new clock for the Library clock tower. 7:00 PM Event: Corporate Pictionary ~ Last Chance Draw ~ Winter Carnival Mega Cash Prize Draw Hosted by: Schreiber Parks and Recreation Committee Location: Schreiber Recreation Centre Join us for the 27th Annual Corporate Pictionary and Last Chance Draw! Great Prizes up for grabs! Even if you are not playing Pictionary- everyone is welcome to cheer on their favourite team and see if they won one of the mega Cash prizes this year. Concession and bar open!

11 THURSDAY, MARCH 3 rd 12:00 NOON- 1:00 PM Event: Hot Dog Luncheon Hosted by: Holy Angels School Location: Holy Angels School Gym Fee: $1.75 Hot Dog, Cookies, Cupcakes or Rice Krispie Squares. Best hot dogs in town and you can enjoy it with the students of Holy Angels School. Everyone welcome! 6:30-8:00 PM Event: FRMH Children s Dance Hosted by: Fallen Rock Minor Hockey Location: Hollywood Filane s boxing gym Fee: $ 5.00 per person Dance the night way to the tunes of Santi Sounds. Refreshments are available. 12 4:00-6:30 PM FRIDAY, MARCH 4 th Event: SMH Hockey game & Skills Competition Hosted by: Schreiber Minor Hockey Location: Schreiber Arena Test your hockey skills in a series of competitions like fastest skater, best accuracy and best goalie. Prizes will be awarded to whoever places first in each category. 7:00 PM Event: Morgan Houston s Alumni Hockey Game Hosted by: Houston Family Location: Schreiber Arena SATURDAY, March 5 th Event: Pat Halonen Sr. Memorial Winter Carnival Poker Run Hosted by: Volunteers of the Schreiber Royal Canadian Legion, Sponsored by Payne s Auto Getting people out to enjoy the gorgeous scenery & great trails right in our own back yard safely, promote the potential for camp lots in our area, exude comradery & share stories & laughs on the trail all on your snowmobile. This illustrates Pat Halonen Sr. s vision & dedication to the Schreiber Winter Carnival Poker Run each year. He did this as a volunteer of the Schreiber Royal Canadian Legion with proceeds donated to the Branch. With the permission of his family we have named the run in his honor. We know that no one will ever fill Pat s skidoo boots, but we will do our best in striving to achieve his goals. Route to be announced. Camps participating this year are Pat Bourguignon (Maude Lake), Dean Lemieux (Bluff Lake), Tom Quinton (Upper Ross Lake), and Cory Huard (Whitesand Lake). Prizes awarded for best poker hands. Special thanks to Payne s Auto, the camps involved, the many Legion volunteers & Schreiber Parks & Recreation. Adult hand: $10.00 each ~ buy as many hands as you wish. 13 SATURDAY, March 5 th 1:00 PM- 5:00 PM Event: Can Skate Element Event Hosted by: Schreiber-Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club Location: Schreiber Arena Admission: $3.00 The CanSkate Element Event is an initiative developed by Skate Canada in support of the organization s ongoing implementation of the Long-Term Athlete Development Model. This club level event has been formatted to introduce CanSkate participants to the competition component of sport while providing them with the opportunity to showcase their skills in a fun and interactive environment. Come watch our local skaters show off their talents! 3:00 PM 6:00 PM Soup & Sandwich Combo Volunteers of the Schreiber Legion enjoy serving up delicious food for all participants of the Poker Run along with those who just want to join in on the last part of the event as winners are announced. That s right ~ this is not just for the Poker Run! Enjoy a tasty beef on a bun sandwich with a steaming, delicious bowl of soup. Fried onions are optional. Choice of soups: Turkey veg, Beef barley, Hamburger. Soup/Sandwich combo - $6.00. Take Out is available at $0.50 extra.

14 8:00 PM SATURDAY, March 5 th Event: Winter Carnival Dance Hosted by: Schreiber Parks and Recreation Committee Location: Recreation Centre Admission: Free Strap on your dancing shoes and get ready to dance the night away. Full bar! Hamburgers, smokies and hotdogs available all night long! COME OUT TO THE FIRST ANNUAL WINTER CARNIVAL DANCE!! LET S PACK THE HALL AND HAVE A FUN NIGHT! FREE Admission!! 19+..

15 SUNDAY, MARCH 6th 10:00 AM 5:00 PM Event: Hockey in the Streets Hosted by: Township of Schreiber and the ARC Committee Location: Scotia Street Admission: Free Drop In and take part in our second annual Hockey in the Streets Kids Road Hockey drop in fun. Music will be playing in the streets with hot chocolate and snacks available for purchase! 7:00 PM Event: Stars on Ice Hosted by: STBFSC Location: Schreiber Arena Admission: $3.00 per person Schreiber-Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club presents Stars on Ice. Junior, Intermediate and Senior STARSkate skaters will showcase their programs from the 2015/2016 competition season.
