4 Chat with Christine Summer time can go by so quickly and sometimes so slowly or as a whirlwind of both. This summer is some strange mix of the two for sure. It is hard, as I watch the agricultural devastation unfold in all the fires west of us not to be in awe. In awe of Mother Nature, in awe of the resilience of those who form our agricultural communities, and in awe of the generosity given of time and money by so many when others are in times of loss and crisis. I know all of us send our support to those affected by the fires. In Chamber activities, we are really excited to be taking on a major part of the visitor and tourism role offered in our community. As you may have read in the Ranger, the Glendive City Council, approved moving the administration appointment for the Convention Visitors Bureau program to the Glendive Chamber. This program had been housed at DCECD since it began in The Chamber has traditionally housed the Visitor Information Center and in working with the DCECD and the Visit Glendive programs, the time was right to place the CVB under the Glendive Chamber umbrella. There will be some things to learn and explore in the weeks and months ahead, but we are excited to have the opportunity to work locally, regionally with SE Montana and Visit Montana groups to promote the tourism and event opportunities we have in Glendive! Stay tuned for more to come. The other things we are working on include the Dawson County Fair and the BBQ in the Badlands. The Chamber will have some great old fashioned Fair Fun this year on Sunday, August 13 th. with the following events: The Annual Ranch Rodeo starting at 1 pm, a kids watermelon eating contest at noon, and buy a $10 ticket for a chance to win $1,000 in our first annual Cow Pie Raffle! If Chancy does her business on your square you win! Tickets are limited to only 625 and are available now at the Chamber Office and will be sold during the Fair, stop and see us at the Chamber Booth. And, mark your calendars for the 2 nd Annual BBQ in the Badlands, September 30 th. This year it will be a full KCBS Master s event. Yummy! This summer we have continued to welcome in members and new businesses to Glendive. 7 We sell Wrangler Tough Enough to Wear Pink shirts for Men, Women and Children. The PRCA Rodeo at these Fairs usually sponsor Tough Enough to Wear Pink events and we have it in stock. It is always nice to see a lot of pink shirts in the grandstand at these events as it represents the fight against Breast Cancer and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these shirts will go directly towards Breast Cancer Research.
