View pictures of 4-H youth participating in various events and activities. Like us at: KY Cooperative Extension Ohio Co 4-H. ACTIVITIES -- There are many after school 4-H activities that you can participate in at various times of the year. These 4-H Clubs meet monthly: Foods, Horticulture, Horse, and Teen. Other activities are scheduled at various times of the year. These include 4-H Project Workshops, Community Service activities, Day Camp, International Culture Night, 4-H Camp, County Fair, Livestock Judging, Horticulture Judging, Horse Judging, Horse and Livestock Shows, just to name a few. 4-H CAMP ADULT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! Parents and other adults can volunteer their time to help youth at H Camp. Become involved in your child s activities. For our children s safety, all volunteer leaders must undergo a background check and be approved by the Youth Protection Risk Management Committee. For more information on becoming a 4-H Camp Volunteer, contact the Extension Office at H WORKSHOP WOODWORKING What: Wood Kentucky Clock Clocks will be made out of popular wood. Youth will sand and stain/finish the wood KY base. A clock movement will be added. Battery not included. Vinyl decals available: 4-H Clover or UK. Specify when registering for workshop. When: Tuesday, May 9 from 4:00-5:30 pm. Registration Cost/Deadline: Workshop fee $5.00. Workshop fee includes all supplies to complete this 4-H Woodworking project. Participants must pre-pay the workshop fee by Friday, April 28 for a kit to be ordered and be registered for the workshop. 4-H CLOVER BUD CLUB is for youth ages 5-8. This club allows youth not yet 4-H age to learn about various aspects of 4-H activities. Parents must attend with their child. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday April 13. For more information, call H FOODS CLUB will meet on Monday, April 3:30-5:00 p.m. Registration: You must call at least 1 day before the meeting and register to attend the meeting. ( ). If you are interested in learning new and exciting recipes and having fun, then the 4-H Foods Club is for you! 4-H HORSE CLUB will meet on Monday, April 6:00 p.m. Interested in horses? Then the Horse Club is for you. Even if you don t own a horse, the club has many activities that you can participate in: 4-H Horse Judging, 4-H Fun Shows, 4-H Horse Camp, learning about horses and having fun. 3 4-H HORTICULTURE CLUB will meet on Wednesday, May 3:30-4:30 p.m. Members learn to identify and judge vegetables, flowers, fruits and nuts, and ornamental plants. 4-H TEEN CLUB will meet on Monday, April 3:30-5:00 p.m. If you are interested in learning leadership skills and having fun with other teens, then the 4-H Teen Club is for you! 4-H Teen Club is for teens grades 7 th -12 th. 4-H Robot Club will meet on Thursday, April 3:30-5:00 p.m. Members learn about robots and how to program them DISTRICT 6 4-H HORSE JUDGING/HIPPOLOGY CONTEST The District 6 4-H Horse Judging/Hippology Contest will be held on Tuesday, April 18 in Bowling Green. The cost is $15/person with registration due at the Extension Office by Monday, April 10. All 4-H members participating must have received at least 6 hours of horse education and have a current 4-H Participation/Code of Conduct form on file at the Extension Office. This will be an all-day event. Registration is 8:45-9:00 am.at the WKU Expo Center Anderson Arena Hippology Contest starts at 9:00 am. The 4-H Horse Judging Contest will be held at the Dragonfly Ranch at 12:00 pm..participants/adults will need to bring their own chair and a sack lunch. For more information contact the Extension Office at State 4-H The State 4-H Horse Judging Contest will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 (location TBA)- registration fee $20 per person. The State 4-H Horse Contests will be held on June at the Clarion Hotel. Cost will be $10/person for each craft and photography item entered. Cost for Public Speaking, Presentations, Horse Bowl, and Hippology is $15/person. All 4-H members participating must have received at least 6 hours of horse education and have a current 4-H Participation/Code of Conduct form on file at the Extension Office. Deadline to submit entry forms is Monday, April DISTRICT 6 4-H HORSE SHOW ELIGIBILITY FORMS 4-H Horse Eligibility Forms are due on or before Monday, April 24 to the 4-H Horse Club meeting. 4-H member must have completed required 6 hours of educational training to show in the D6 4-H Horse Show. Forms that must be submitted to be eligible to show your 4-H horse at the District 6 4-H Horse Show include: Horse Eligibility Form(s), Negative Coggins Test, Health Paper and 2 photos of horse - 1) Front view showing horse's head, 2) Side view showing body and all four of the horse's legs and hooves. The District 6 4-H Horse Show will be held at the WKU Ag Expo Center in Bowling Green on June See 4-H Calendar on front page for 4-H Horse Division Show dates. For more information contact the Extension Office at or visit the Kentucky 4-H Youth livestock website: MARKET LAMB, HOG, GOAT VALIDATION SITE When: Thursday, May 11 at OC Park in Hartford. Time: 4:00-7:30 pm, $4/head tagging fee will be collected at site. 4-H Members must have completed 6 hours of livestock educational training to be eligible to show 4-H livestock and these hours must be certified by an Ohio County 4-H Livestock leader. For Market Lamb, Market Hog, and Market Goat show information contact, the Extension Office at or visit the Kentucky 4-H Youth livestock website: KENTUCKY 4-H TEEN CONFERENCE 4-H Teen Conference will be held at the University of Kentucky on June 12-15, Teen Conference is open to any 4-H member who has completed the 8 th grade and who has not passed their 19th birthday. The cost of the program will be $250, some travel expenses are extra. Delegates stay in dorm rooms and get a taste of dorm life and campus activities. Each delegate will participate in educational tracks, workshops, a college tour of your choice, and many more fun activities. Call for more information. Registration forms will be available at the Extension Office or at the following website: Registrationform and Conference fee(s) are due Monday, May 1 to the Extension Office.
4 H CAMP - Ohio County will attend 4-H Camp June at the West Kentucky 4-H Camp in Dawson Springs. 4-H Camp is for youth ages 9-14 years old. Ohio County will be camping with McLean, Union, and Webster Counties. Cost will be $190 per camper and includes a 4-H camp T-shirt and a 4-H backpack. 4-H Camp registration forms and camp scholarship forms will be available in March. 4-H Camp Scholarships based on need, will be available (Community Service hours required). Watch for more information at your 4-H club meetings H AWARDS TRIP The H Awards trip to Holiday World will be held on Thursday, June 1. To be eligible for the H Awards Trip, 4-H members must have completed two or more of the following activities from June 1, 2016, through May 30, School or club activities do not count toward Awards Trip points. 1. Submit two completed 4-H Project Record Sheets with 1 page story each State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest or H Livestock Skill-A-Thon District Horticulture Judging Contest County International Night (Extension Office) County Demonstrations (Extension Office) County Speeches (Extension Office) H CAMP KIT - $20 (Kit not included in 4-H Camp fee) A 4-H Camp Kit is offered by the Kentucky 4-H Camping Program. Price of the kit is $20 and camper will receive the kit on arrival at 4-H Camp. The kit includes a blue fanny pack, a green camp t-shirt, camp wristband, LED flashlight, rain poncho, spray hand sanitizer, and a small bottle of sunscreen. All items are available in 4-H Camp Country Store priced individually State Horse Judging Contest/Hippology Contest or 2017 District Horse Judging/Hippology Contest. Juniors/Seniors: Submit a 2016 Honors Form. A letter will be sent to all 4-H members eligible for the 2017 trip that outlines what time we leave/return and forms to attend. If you feel you have qualified for the 4-H Awards Trip, but did not receive a letter by May 26 please contact the Extension Office. Members must pay a $5 deposit for trip that will be refunded on the day of the trip. The deadline to submit $5 deposit and Activity Release form is Friday, May 26. 5 Today in 4-H, we passed out papers for activities. And we talked about the things on the 4-H papers. We did pancakes today and we got put in to groups by 4. All the groups were divided by desks. First, we put 3 ounces of water. Then, we poured it into the bag of cake mix and mixed it up. Next, we poured it into little cups like. Then we poured it onto the pan and it cooked until it was done. We flipped the pancakes. Then we put syrup on it. Lastly, we ate all the pancakes. Seth Moore, Mrs. Black s class, Beaver Dam 5 th grade Last month, 4-H used straws to build a tower. Then Mr. Druin measured to see whose was the longest. Audrey Render, Hadlee Canty, Mallorie Ball and Addy Graves group measured the longest and tallest. After we did that we talked about how to do our demonstrations for next month. That s what we did in 4-H. Audrey Render, 4 th grade, Mrs. Bradley s class, Beaver Dam Did 4-H demonstration. Everyone did awesome. It lasted 2-5 minutes a person. And all of them were great! Cyrus, Mrs. Parker PANCAKES! So today we are making pancakes! So we got a bottle of water, batter, 4 cups and a measuring cup. Ms. Raymer taught us how to make them. So much fun and our hard work will pay off! Kids, remember 4-H camp is June Entrée fee is $190. Kids, if you re at the store ask your mom to buy dog/cat food. Congratulations to Luke Hibbard and Kyndall Farmer for winning the BLUE RIBBON! And to Andrew Davis! So after our pancakes, we re done. They were delicious and awesome. And remember to bring in food cans and camp 4-H! I LOVE 4-H! - Kaden Swift, Ms. Roberts, Western Back at Western for 4-H! We did our demonstrations. The people that got picked to get a blue ribbon are Edy Wilson, Hannah Ates, Ella Garner and Lauren Hoskins. Jayden Stofer, Martin, Western Breakfast Time!! Now we took roll and got ready. We read the Ohio County 4-H Update. Then we made pancakes and were dismissed. Jerry, 6 th grade, Price, Western Elementary Today in 4-H we are making pancakes. Did you know that breakfast makes a difference? We are getting in groups to make pancakes for each person. Then we got to go up there and watch them cook. Then we got to eat it! That concludes our 4-H demonstration! - Hayden Phelps, Mrs. Smith, Wayland This week in 4-H at Wayland Alexander Elementary School we are doing speeches. We all did a great job. The people that got blue ribbons are Emily Goff, Aubrey Sandefur, Clayton Roberts, Aly Bishop, Chloe Keele, Nik Prewitt and that was all for today! We had a great time! - Aubrey Sandefur, Mrs. Clayton s Class, Wayland YUM! Today we made some pancakes, and they were amazing! We got to do everything except pour the syrup because she did not want us to put too much on our pancakes. I think everyone had a good pancake and lots of fun. We watched a slideshow about breakfast. Our teacher even ate a pancake! I love everything we did today. Savannah Barker, Mrs. Geary 6 th grade Last time in 4-H we learned how to build a drinking straw tower. We also learned how to give a speech. And we also built a tower with our group. It was fun! - Rayann Dutton, Lancaster, Wayland This month in 4-H we made pancakes. We learned what s in pure maple syrup. To make pancakes you need water and pancake batter. You mix ¾ cups of water and the batter. Next, you put the pancakes on the skillet and wait. When the pancakes are nice and fluffy, take them off the skillet and enjoy! - Sierra Midkiff, 6 th grade, Ms Sandefur, Southern Elementary Today in 4-H we made pancakes. It was really fun. I enjoyed spending time with my peers. I hope other people did also. It was nice learning about breakfast. We loved it! That is what my class did in 4-H. Abigail Oakley, 5 th grade, Ms Sandefur, Southern Elementary Today in 4-H we had a lot of fun. We made pancakes! We got to make our own pancakes. It was super fun. Our table spilt some of our batter all over our table. Everybody s pancakes came in different shapes. It was fun flipping a pancake. We also learned about breakfast and some tips about what you can eat for breakfast. That is what we did in 4-H today. Ethan Allen, 4 th grade, Ms Sandefur, Southern Elementary Last time in 4-H we showed our posters and gave our speeches. For example, I made a volcano and gave my speech and showed my poster. Also, Savanna Ball gave us cards of how to make fluffy slime. Another thing is when we gave our speech there were jokes and questions. The jokes were funny. We all had fun!
