2 Dress Code for Livestock Shows Policy: Kawartha Lakes Haliburton 4-H members showing livestock must adhere to the below list of acceptable attire for the various types of livestock. When a show dictates or provides different attire it is acceptable for members to wear the attire provided. Dairy: White pants (dress pants or jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirts with a collar and sleeves and no advertising, writing or pictures, adequate footwear Beef: Black pants (dress pants or jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirt with a collar and sleeves and no advertising, writing or pictures, adequate footwear. Lamb: Black pants (dress pants or jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirt with a collar and sleeves and, and no advertising, writing or pictures adequate footwear, Horses: Varies depending on the breed or discipline. Standard attire is dark pants or breeches and a clean shirt with a collar and sleeve and no advertising, writing or pictures. Dairy Goats: White pants (dress pants or jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirts with a collar and sleeves and no advertising, writing or pictures, adequate footwear Meat Goats: Black pants (dress pants or jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirt with a collar and sleeves, and no advertising, writing or pictures equate footwear. Swine: Dark pants (dress pants and jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirts with a collar and sleeves and no advertising, writing or pictures, adequate footwear. Rabbits: White pants (dress pants or jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirts with a collar and sleeves and no advertising, writing or pictures or white lab coat. Poultry: White pants (dress pants or jeans only, no tights, yoga pants or stretch pants), white shirts with a collar and sleeves and no advertising, writing or pictures or white lab coat. IT S ALMOST TIME FOR THE KLH 4-H Go For The Gold Competition TO BEGIN!! Get your team together and join in the fun! All current KLH 4-H members are eligible to participate. The only rule is that you must have one novice or junior 4-H member on each team. So, if you have participated before, chat up your friends and get them out to participate or just come out and cheer everyone on! Win or lose, there are always refreshments and lots of laughs and social entertainment!!! Check out the details below and get your team registered before it s too late!! 3 4-H Leadership Camp March 2017 Report During the March Break, I attended a once in a lifetime opportunity - 4-H Provincial Leadership Camp. It is a place where you meet new friends, and maybe some old. The 5 days that I was there felt much longer than 5 days, on the first day, one of the staff was appointed the Admiral, who was the overseer of camp. On the second day Captain and Lieutenants were introduced and ran each of the 5 ships. On the second night, it had felt like a week had passed since that morning. It was just that much fun! We learnt about leadership skills, like the qualities of a leader, and leading a group to safety while stranded on a desert island. Every night there was an evening program, and a group was selected to host it, there were group games that each revolved around a theme that was picked by the group. On the last night, the evening program was the banquet, and I was the Cowboy (the theme was western), the equivalent of Prom King. The criteria to become the Cowboy or Cowgirl was the be the one that went from being the most shy to one of the less shyer people. During the banquet we put our newfound skills of Two-Stepping and the Virginia Reel (that we learned the day before) to the test. There was even a snowball dance at the end, where two people started dancing and after a few seconds they would part, and someone from the crowd would come and join them. That night, everyone said goodbye to each other, we all got into a boomerang shape and said goodbye to the person across from us, then moved to the left. Afterwards, once we had said goodbye to everyone, we said goodbye to the camp, and got people to sign books so we could get each other s contact information. All-in-all, it was a great experience and I wish I could go back, but since I can t, I encourage anyone who can go to try. Thank you 4-H for the amazing opportunity. Post your information on the Kawartha Lakes Haliburton 4-H facebook page. 3. Post your information at under the media section. Woodville-Little Britain Beef Club The first meeting of the Woodville-Little Britain Beef Club was held on April 2, 2017 at Rachel & Cody Crowe's house. We opened the meeting with the 4-H pledge, the roll call and then club elections. Then we did all the new business like when our achievement day is going to be, Go for the Gold team, and other upcoming events. After that we judged some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and placed them in the order that we thought made sense. Some of the members offered to give reasons. Finally we discussed the next meeting date. It will be held on May 7th. We had a social time and snacks and adjourned the meeting.

4 The second meeting of the Woodville-Little Britain Beef Club was held on May 7, 2017 at the Brown's Farm. First we did the 4-H pledge and the roll call which was "Introduce yourself and tell us something about your calf". The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The meeting was then turned over to Mr. Paul Brown. Paul told us about his farm and then we looked at some feed samples of things that are fed in his feedlot. He talked about the rations and how much of each feed is fed to his cattle. We took a walk to the barn where Paul talked about vaccinating cattle. After that we discussed upcoming events like our achievement day, Go for the Gold and the 4-H Fair. Next we did another judging activity and this time it was rope halters. Finally we discussed the next meeting date. We had social time, snacks and adjourned the meeting. Jaimee and Rachel We are excited to share that registration for our highly-anticipated, 8 th annual Youth Summit for Biodiversity is now open. Alongside our Youth Council, we are welcoming 100 environmental leaders from high schools across the province to come together for a weekend of nature exploration, environmental learning and outdoor fun. This year s summit will be held from September 22 to 24, 2017 at YMCA Geneva Park in Orillia, Ontario. To register, please visit ontarionature.org/youthsummit. Highlights include: Interactive workshops ranging from medicinal plants to everyday sustainability to climate action A networking forum to connect and develop action plans with local youth Hiking along forest trails, canoeing on Lake Couchiching, singing around a campfire, and meeting people with shared interests and concerns

5 Youth Opportunities & Scholarships Discovery Days Registration Deadline: June 20 th Camp Date: July 4 th Location: Cobourg, ON Participants arrive for 9:30am registration and head home at 3:30pm. Lunch is provided. $19 per attendee Discovery Days are a fantastic one-day 4-H experience for 4-H members, and for youth curious about joining. At Discovery Days, youth aged 6 through 12 years old (as of December 31, 2016) explore the wide array of fun and interaction available in 4-H Ontario, through different activities and games. Try your hand at making crafts, make your own grasshead, explore why ph is important to ruminants like cows, use teamwork to play a version of 4-H field hockey, showcase your trivia smarts in our famous Go For The Gold game, and make a delicious snack that you can then enjoy, all in one day! Along with all of this, you'll get a pizza lunch, a t-shirt you can decorate and take home with you, and you will meet new friends. Looking to get your friends involved in 4-H? Bring a friend to Discovery Days and be entered to win a great 4-H prize pack! Each year is a new experience! Application Deadline: June 7, 2017 Event Date: July 19-22, 2017 University of Guelph, Guelph ON Cost: $333.35*includes HST A maximum of 40 participants can attend. The conference is a great opportunity to explore and learn about careers while experiencing a university environment by using lecture halls, eating on-campus and living in dormitories, just like a post-secondary student.
