1 So you say you like to BBQ. Have we got a deal for you! Yep, that s right! Cold River Cattle Company BBQ team, in conjunction with the World s Championship BBQ cook-off sponsored by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, is looking for you! The Cold River team is a team that has been cooking at the HLS&R BBQ cook-off for 30+ years. The team is made up of Doctors, Lawyers, Bankers and even a few Indian Chiefs. This years cook-off takes place over a 3-day period in February. We start our party on Thursday, February 22 nd and keep on going until Saturday February 24th. Let me tell you a little about what we do. We provide food and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) in a private tent area to donors and their guests. We will be hosting our annual party for the Sunshine Kids organization on Saturday morning. We will also be hosting our annual party for the Small Steps Nurturing Center on Friday, from 10am to 12pm. We have live music entertainment each night even a Miss Blue Jeans contest on Saturday. Security is provided, even calls to Yellow Cab for those that are just too full! The HLS&R BBQ proceeds are a charitable contribution to the kids in the Houston area. Donations made are tax-deductible by current laws. This event is the kick off weekend for the Rodeo events, so the mood is great and the cooking is wonderful! You, as a donor, are provided with: donor and guest wristbands. You are insured as a donor to have unlimited access to our space at all times; however your group of guests may sometimes experience a wait. Cold River is known to be one of the great places to be at the cook-off and sometimes we are just too full. We ask people to wait instead of packing them in, even though we have 3 full spaces. We cook a full range of food: brisket, sausage, chicken and whatever else gets close to the fire, and all the trimmings. In 2004, Cold River won the Grand Champion Chicken. Cold River has also won Best of Brisket and 3 rd in Chicken in the past and always wins the Best Place to Be award. Enclosed you will find a breakdown of different donor packages. The donor gifts to you are according to the level of your donation. Past gifts have included T-shirts, Caps, Koozies, Bandanas, Coolers and Aprons to name a few. 2 Cold River 2018 Here we go again!! Work has begun on the 2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Barbeque. Our event has become such a success that we would rather look to our past donors first. I know that it is difficult, while it still feels like summer, to start making plans for February, but for us it s just around the corner. The dates for this year s cook-off are: Cook-Off Starts Thursday February 22, 2018 The Party Continues Friday February 23, 2018 Last Day for FUN! Saturday February 24, 2018 As always, we are looking for your continued support for As this event has gotten so large and costly, we are trying to get in some early commitments. Due to ever changing rules with HLS&R, we urge you to get your donation in early to secure your place in all the fun! We wouldn t want you to miss being included and end up on the outside looking in. This is one event you really shouldn t miss. We have 3 adjoining spaces to accommodate the party needs. A donation gives you, donor and guest wrist bands. In addition, donations of $500 or more will include recognition for public to see. Your donation is tax deductible as Cold River is a 501 (c) (3) Charitable Organization. The Houston Live Stock Show & Rodeo proceeds benefit youth scholarships. Please read thoroughly before making your selection.
