4 Prduct Descriptin Fr the avid spear fisherman, the HunterPac BCD takes all f ur great technical and recreatinal BCD features and cmbines them with a few spear fishing essentials creating a BCD that excels in any type f pen water diving. Spear fishing tday and shting pictures tmrrw, the HunterPac BCD makes it pssible with all f its features and functins. Prviding 35 lbs. (15.8 kg) f lift, the HunterPac 360-degree, dnut wing supprts aluminum and steel tanks with a maximum weight f 32 lbs. (14.5 kg) with ptinal pckets. With an integrated Gusset Cntrl system that reduces tac effect and prmtes effective streamlining, the HunterPac puts buyancy where it is mst needed (thrughut the trs supprting the weight f the tank) fr superir hrizntal trim. Cming standard with a shulder exhaust pull-dump and a waist-level exhaust valve, trimming the BCD is easy. The dnut shape and design f the air cell (wing-style) prvides maximum cmfrt thrughut the dive with n squeezing r restrictins that can happen with a typical jacket-style BCD. Flating n the surface in a vertical psitin in the HunterPac is nt a prblem; it wn t tip yu ver. Using the same materials and craftsmanship with a simplified design, the HunterPac weighs in at nly 6.2 lbs. (2.8 kg) making it ideal fr travel. 9 Adjusting the HunterPac Adjusting the HunterPac t fit prperly is essential fr cmfrt and gd streamlining. The HunterPac shuld fit snuggly and securely n matter whether yu re diving a wetsuit, drysuit, r thin skin suit. The shulder, waist, chest, and crtch straps easily adjust fr a prper fit. T adjust the HunterPac: 1. Lsen the shulders straps using the tw belt slides just abve the D-rings n the shulder straps. 2. Lsen the waist strap at the buckle. 3. Lsen the crss-chest strap and crtch strap. 4. Wearing yur typical expsure suit, put n the HunterPac. 5. Fasten the waist strap s that it s cmfrtable. Psitin the buckle s that it s just t the right f center n yur bdy. This allws the crtch strap waist attachment pint t be psitined directly abve yur crtch. 6. Fasten the crss-chest strap s that the shulder straps are parallel n yur chest, but d nt tighten it. 7. Partially tighten the waist and shulder straps. 8. Partially tighten the crss-chest strap s that the shulder straps are parallel t each ther n yur chest and shulders. 9. Repeat steps 6 and 7 until yu achieve the mst cmfrtable fit. 6

10 10. Fasten and tighten the crtch-strap until it fits securely. 11. Rck gently frm side t side and mve arund t make sure the harness fits tightly and is secure. 12. Fully inflate the wing t ensure it des nt restrict yur breathing r mvement. CAUTION: Prperly fitted, the harness shuld nt restrict yur breathing when the BC wing is fully inflated. 13. Weave any webbing lse ends thrugh the belt slides s that they are securely in place. 7

11 Attaching the HunterPac t a Cylinder The HunterPac is easily attached t an aluminum r steel single cylinder using the tw stainless steel cam-bands prvided. The cam-bands can be easily remved fr cleaning r transprt. T attach the HunterPac t a cylinder: 1. Thrughly sak the cam-straps in water and allw them t stretch. 2. Lsen the cam-straps t fit the size f the cylinder. 3. Slide the cam-straps ver the cylinder. 4. Hk the tank-height adjustment strap ver the cylinder valve and psitin arund the neck f the cylinder. See Adjusting the Tank Height Adjustment Strap fr mre infrmatin. 5. Psitin the HunterPac t the desired height n the cylinder. Nte: When the tank height adjustment strap is adjusted crrectly, yu shuld be able t reach back and turn n/ff yur cylinder s valve. 6. Tighten the cam-straps until they snap tightly arund the cylinder. 7. Pick up the unit by the harness shulder straps and shake it up and dwn. Make sure that the tank is fastened securely and that the band is tight enugh t prevent it frm cming undne accidentally. If the cam-strap is nt tight enugh, tighten it and perfrm the shake test again. WARNING: Befre each use, check the HunterPac cam-bands, straps, and the waist strap fr wear. Have an authrized repair facility replace wrn r damaged items befre use. Failure t replace wrn r damaged tank buckles and bands culd lead t lss f cylinders r f the HunterPac assembly itself. This culd lead t serius persnal injury r death. Using the Tank-Height Adjustment Strap The tank-height adjustment strap hks ver the cylinder valve and is psitined at the neck f the cylinder. It is used t maintain a cnsistent height psitin fr the HunterPac each time yu attach it t a cylinder. The strap can 8

12 als be used as a handle t carry the HunterPac when it is nt attached t a cylinder. The tank-height adjustment strap fastens and adjusts using a belt slide. Yu need t experiment with the adjustment strap until the height is right fr yu. Nte: When the tank height adjustment strap is adjusted crrectly, yu shuld be able t reach back and turn n/ff yur cylinder s tank valve. 9

13 Adding and Remving D-rings T add r remve D-rings frm HunterPac shulder r waist straps, yu need t thread r unthread the 2.0-inch (50 mm) strap webbing thrugh a stainless belt-slide (weight retainer), which hlds the D-ring in place n the strap. Nte: It is recmmended that yu nly add r remve D-rings frm ne shulder strap at a time. This way, yu can refer t the ther shulder strap if yu have difficulty in ruting the webbing strap crrectly. T add r remve D-rings: 1. Pass the lse end f the webbing strap thrugh the plastic belt slide (shulder straps and left-side waist strap). 2. Pass the lse end f the webbing strap thrugh the stainless-steel beltslide hlding the existing D-ring (r, n the left-side waist strap, thrugh the cam buckle and then thrugh the belt-slide). Nte: Only unweave the belt-slides if yu want t remve the D-ring. 3. Remve r add D-rings t the strap as desired. 4. Once the D-rings are in place n the strap, rute the webbing-strap back thrugh the belt-slide t hld the D-ring in place. See diagram belw. 5. Rute the webbing strap back thrugh the plastic belt slide (fr shulder straps) r cam buckle (waist strap) t hld the lse end f the strap in place. 6. On the shulder straps, tuck the lse end f the strap under the neprene shulder pads. 10

14 Using the Gusset Cntrl System The integrated Gusset Cntrl system is designed t reduce the tac effect (BC tank wrapping). Using a single cylinder with a wing style BC can cause the BC t wrap (tac) arund the cylinder creating drag and reducing the ability t easily exhaust air because the air gets trapped abve the level f the BC exhaust hse elbw when the diver is in a nrmal swimming psitin. By using the Gusset Cntrl system, the wing is held in place acrss the divers back and des nt wrap arund the cylinder. With the wing in this psitin, effective streamlining is accmplished, and the HunterPac puts buyancy thrughut the trs supprting the weight f the tank fr superir hrizntal trim. It als keeps the wing belw the level f the exhaust hse elbw, allwing the diver t exhaust air frm the BC using the remte exhaust valve in the hse elbw r by hlding the end f the hse up and depressing the ral inflatin/manual deflatin buttn. 11

15 Care and Maintenance With prper care and service, yur HunterPac can prvide yu with years f safe, enjyable use. Withut prper care, yur HunterPac system can becme damaged and be either unserviceable r dangerus t use. Nte: Stainless steel can develp rust even when prperly cared fr. General Maintenance Prcedures The sun s ultravilet rays can fade and damage the HunterPac, shrtening its life. Stre the HunterPac away frm sunlight and excessive heat. Althugh the HunterPac is designed fr use in water as cld as 28 F (-2 C) and as warm as 104 F (40 C), Dive Rite recmmends string the HunterPac between 0 and 104 F (-18 t 40 C). Keep sharp bjects frm cming in cntact with the HunterPac. Take care when handling the HunterPac. D nt rest heavy bjects n the BC r drag it ver rugh surfaces. Peridically lubricate the lw-pressure inflatr hse cupling and quick discnnect plug with silicne lubricant. Due t the type f material used in the cnstructin f the HunterPac, clean it nly with fresh water and mild detergent. Chemicals, strng detergents, and cleaning slutins can damage the HunterPac and shrten its life. Have the HunterPac inspected yearly by yur lcal, authrized Dive Rite dealer. Avid excessive pl use. Excessive use in chlrinated water can lead t premature disclratin and shrten the prducts life. Rinse the HunterPac thrughly after each use and allw it t dry cmpletely befre string. Dive Rite recmmends Salt-X fr salt remval ( WARNING: D nt discnnect the large-diameter inflatin hse elbw/remte exhaust frm the BC bdy. Detaching and re-attaching this cmpnent shuld nly be attempted by a qualified technician wrking under the supervisin f an authrized Dive Rite dealer r distributr. Attempts t remve and/r 12

16 replace this cmpnent withut the necessary training and tls may result in permanent damage t the inflatin hse assembly r BC. Cleaning the Inside f the BC The greatest threat t the BC s lng life is the presence f cntaminants inside the BC. Salt water, when it evaprates, leaves behind razr-sharp crystals that can easily puncture the BC s fabric. Other substances can cause the inside surfaces f the BC t permanently stick t ne anther. T clean the inside f the BC: 1. Drain any water that may have cllected in the BC during the dive. T d s, partially inflate the BC and then turn it ver s that the hse elbw is at the lwest pint. Depress the manual deflatr buttn while squeezing gently n the BC. Cntinue t d s until all f the water is ut. 2. Refill the BC with fresh water until it is apprximately ne-quarter full. 3. Inflate the BC the rest f the way with air. 4. Turn the BC ver and ver, s that the fresh water has the pprtunity t rinse all f the BC s interir surfaces. 5. Drain the fresh water frm the BC (see Step 1). 6. Repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 ne r tw mre times. 7. Rinse the exterir f the BC by immersing it in a tub f fresh water r spraying it gently with a hse. 8. Inflate the BC until it is nearly full and let it stand fr 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, check the BC fr lss f air. 9. Lay the BC ut flat r hang it upside dwn fr several hurs t allw it t dry thrughly. 10. Stre the BC partially inflated in a dry, dark place. 13

17 Warnings t Nte Befre Use Befre using yur HunterPac, there are several things yu must d and be aware f. These include: Obtain a minimum f entry-level pen-water scuba diver training and certificatin frm a recgnized diver-training rganizatin. As part f this training, yu must master all the basic skills f buyancy cntrl, including prper weighting, ascents, descents, surface swimming and resting, and establishing neutral buyancy under water. This training must als cver (bth at the surface and underwater) the use f buyancy cntrl devices (BCs), ral inflatin f BCs, lw-pressure inflatin f BCs, and deflatin f BCs using a variety f methds. Yu must read and understand this wner s manual and all ther warnings that accmpany the prduct. If yu d nt understand sme part f this manual, cntact Dive Rite r yur lcal authrized Dive Rite dealer. Failure t fllw the instructins given in this manual r t heed the warnings it prvides can cause equipment lss r damage, serius persnal injury, r death. Misuse f the HunterPac can result in uncntrlled ascents, descents, r lss f buyancy cntrl. This, in turn, can cause serius persnal injury r death. The HunterPac is NOT a United States Cast Guard apprved persnal fltatin device (PFD). It will nt prvide face-up fltatin fr all users and cnditins. These wings are nly t be used with standard air r enriched air Nitrx with an xygen cncentratin nt t exceed 50%. Use with a greater cncentratin f xygen may create a fire hazard and expse the user t risk f serius injury. Fr safety reasns, it is strictly frbidden t change frm air t Nitrx and vice versa unless the buyancy cmpensatr has been inspected and prperly cleaned by cmpetent persnnel. Remember that the depth and the duratin f the dive are strictly dependant by the percentage f xygen in the breathing gas. In case f cntaminatin with il, the wing must be inspected and cleaned by cmpetent persnnel. 14

18 When a regulatr and inflatr hse are cnnected t a cylinder, always pen the cylinder valve slwly, especially when using Nitrx. The HunterPac must be used with cmpressed air cmpliant with standard EN Inflatin and Deflatin Warnings and Cautins When using a remte exhaust pull-dump, DO NOT cntinue t pull if air is nt cming ut. Adjust yur bdy psitin s that the exhaust valve is at the highest pint and then LIGHTLY pull dwn n the exhaust again. D nt yank n the exhaust as ding s culd cause damage t the BC. D nt attach the lw-pressure inflatr hse t a high-pressure air surce, such as the HP (high pressure) prt f a regulatr. The BC s lw-pressure inflatr and its supply hse can nly handle pressures f apprximately 150 punds per square inch (10 bar) ver ambient pressure. Nte: Read yur regulatr manufacturer s instructins cncerning the prper cnnectin f lw- and high-pressure hses. Trained technicians wrking fr factry authrized dive centers shuld nly install r change hses. Prduct damage can result frm imprper hse cnnectin. Always inflate the BC slwly, bth at the surface and underwater. Rapid inflatin underwater can result in uncntrlled ascents. Uncntrlled ascents can cause serius lung verpressure injuries, such as Arterial Gas Emblism (AGE). Serius verpressure injuries can result in death. Maintaining a safe rate f ascent requires training and practice. The BCs verpressure relief valve des nt cntrl r prevent uncntrlled ascents. These instructins d nt incrprate all f the steps required t rally inflate the BC abve r belw the water. Oral inflatin f BCs underwater requires special training and practice. This shuld first be attempted under cntrlled cnditins and under the supervisin f a certified instructr. Never breathe frm the BC s ral inflatr/manual deflatr muthpiece. The BC may cntain cntaminatin r gas residue that may be hazardus if inhaled. Use f the ral inflatr/manual deflatr r verpressure relief valve fr deflatin may allw water t enter the BC. Repeated deflatin f the BC under water may allw enugh water t enter the BC t substantially 15

19 reduce the BC s lift capacity (buyancy) r interfere with its ability t allw the user t cntrl buyancy. Nte: If yu have questins regarding any f the infrmatin yu find in this manual r equally imprtant questins pertaining t infrmatin abut the HunterPac yu cannt find in this manual, cntact yur lcal authrized Dive Rite dealer. If there is n authrized Dive Rite dealer in yur area, cntact Dive Rite directly, using the cntact infrmatin appearing in this manual. 16

20 Warranty Infrmatin The Dive Rite HunterPac carries a limited lifetime warranty. Dive Rite will at its sle discretin repair r replace a HunterPac prved t be damaged by faulty manufacture r material, at n cst, fr the lifetime f the HunterPac. This warranty applies nly t the riginal retail purchaser. It des nt cver cmmercial r rental use, nr des it extend t units purchased frm ther than an authrized Dive Rite dealer. This warranty specifically excludes clr changes, light fastness, r fading. Dive Rite des nt accept respnsibility fr stains r transference r bleeding f clr t ther items. If we deem a HunterPac cmpnent t be beynd repair thrugh n fault f the user then, and nly then, will we replace the affected cmpnent(s). T make a claim under this warranty, the wner must have registered his/her warranty using Dive Rite s website ( All warranty repairs (internatinal r dmestic) must be accmpanied by a cpy f the purchase receipt.
