2 What a great feeling it has been around the club over the past 30 days. Seeing our building being filled with activity again is a great sight to see. I have enjoyed seeing our familiar members but also meeting our new members here at the club. I want to thank everyone for using the word I mentioned several newsletters ago. Jason and staff, along with our house committee will be constant reviewing and tweaking things as we continue forward. July is here, many consider the best month of the year. Our American holiday we truly should enjoy and cherish, kids are out of school, the heat is kicking in, and boating season is in full swing. Another tradition in July will be our 3 rd annual WYC Boat Docking with the Chesapeake Cowboys on July 29 th. Don t be a stranger for this event as you will see the captains dock their boats and compete for the best time. This event is also a fund raiser for the club so we hope you can attend! For more information please check the website. WBOC will begin advertising this event on their television and radio stations starting after the holiday, plus the week leading up to the event there will be a segment on our club on Delmarva Life. This is great exposure for WYC! Special thanks to Fleet Captain Ryan McClenahan for organizing the boater s safety course held at the club. Thanks for participating and I hope everyone passed! Everyone continue to come on down and enjoy the club and facilities. We have updated Activities schedule on the website and newsletter with some new additional events listed. 3 Rear Commodores Report Here we are 30 days after our grand opening. It s hard to believe. A lot has happened in the past year and a half and we are still working at making this the best place on the water. Our noise situation at the club is being looked at very seriously. We have 2 quotes from companies that do this for a living. Our floor, vaulted ceiling and windows are our problems. Neither absorbs sound they just repel sounds and they continue to echo throughout the entire room. Sound absorbing panels installed on the ceiling and walls could knock down a lot of the noise but the quotes received are quite expensive. To try an alternative route we are looking into pricing the panels and putting the fabric on them and mounting them ourselves. This could end up being a large undertaking but we want to look at all avenues. I should know something this week and will review all numbers with the board and make a decision on which way to go. We still are reading the comment cards and you will see some changes as we go. We are trying to listen to all of our members and make it work for all of us. Please keep the comment cards coming. These are a good way for us to look back and review instead of trying to remember what someone said after we all have had a few cocktails. This all is a work in progress and we are moving forward. I will be placing employee only signs on the kitchen doors. Please do not enter the kitchen uninvited. We are trying to get into a good flow back there and interruptions like that disrupt the flow. If you have a problem or recommendation please address it with your wait staff, comment card or discuss it with Jason as he is always walking around checking with members to see how everything is going. We were lucky enough to have a mixologist come the club last Thursday night and go over how to set up a bar efficiently and how to make drinks using things we already have on hand. Be ready for some drink specials coming up. We will have a cocktail menu together real soon and we will be naming some of these drinks with nautical terms. Put your thinking caps on and send me some good drink names. If yours is picked for a certain drink, or if you have a drink you like, name it and send me the recipe and if we pick either one for our cocktail menu you will

4 win a prize. Our bartenders are already thinking of drinks and names so let s help them out. Remember the RAYBOMB?!?! July 4 th we will be open at 11:30am. We will be having food and drink specials. And the bartenders might have some interesting uniforms on that day. A notice will be sent to you soon. See you at the club. We had 15 people take the class Great Job everyone. I think we are going to do some more classes on another date. I ll let you know when. Our CG Aux. instructors w/ graduate David Nelson.

5 I heard St Michaels was a great weekend with Great Weather! Glad to hear everyone enjoyed their trip, and made it back safe and sound. Christmas in July Small boat parade & band Saturday July 7 th 7:00 p.m. at the WYC. I d like to get 10 boats if we can you don t have to go crazy decorating just go for a boat ride and a good time! A funny themed costume or easy decoration if you can find the Santa hats and Hawaiian shirts kind of theme. That is all you need. I ll be leading the pack with a giant dancing crab on the bow of my center console. I ll leave it at that and let everyone use your imagination from there. If you are interested (Please let me know.) This is going to be an early kick start to start collecting toys for, that will go on our Boat parade in November. My idea with this is to decorate your Pontoon, Center Consoled, Jet Ski, or whatever you would like, and do a small cruise up the creek and back to the club by 7 pm. We want to make a little show of this with the small boats and entertain the guests in the club and on the dock. Then we will have a band, The Hayman s from 7:30-10:30 once we all get back to the dock. Again the main goal is for all of us to have a good time and collect some toys at the club that night. Please see below for our 2018 cruise schedule: Wed. 4 th of July, Day trip to (Red Shell Shanty at Somers Cove Marina in Crisfield). This will be a day trip by boat or car. Your choice, I spoke with the Marina they are open on this day especially if we are coming to hang out. We could do a stop at Rumbley on the way back or stop at a beach then back to the club for the evening. Solomon s weekend for July 14 th : If you are staying at another marina over there we will see you there. If you are planning on staying at the

6 Solomon s Yacht Club and you haven t booked yet, Call or Solomon s Fleet Captain Tony Baratta , ab2@psu.edu. Crisfield Crab and Clam Bake is on July 18th this year, if you plan on going by boat to Somers Cove Marina you can make arrangements to stay the night if you need. Call the Tom, or Mary Suggested trip for The Cape Charles Boat Docking weekend Aug. 4 th and 5 th. Now if you haven t booked your slip for Oyster Farm Marina where the Cape Charles Boat Docking is held, it is too late, they started taking reservation last Aug. But the good news you can drive down for the day and at least check out the event and book your slip at Oyster Farm Marina for 2019 Talk to the Office Manager Brooke, We are bringing back our Onancock cruise in Aug. On the 24th, 25th, & 26th -They have a new facility with floating docks. I ve talked with the New Dock Master managing the marina. This has been a fun weekend in the past and we end up having a parking lot/ dock party on Saturday night usually with music, food and fun. If you have any question you may contact Thomas Fitchett. If you are coming back from Onancock and you don t want to spend the fuel to go back to the club, Crisfield is on the way so stop there and leave your boat and save the fuel. Call the Director Tom, or Mary to book now, this weekend can book up so don t wait until last min.

It is great to see everyone enjoying the Club, Dock Tales and the pool. Wearables are available inside the club with plenty of stock in the trailer. If you don t see your size or color, ask! I encourage all boat owners to get a TOCO card it's easier quicker and more convenient. The TOCO applications are available on our web site bottom left. Jamie Rebman Trailer Parking UPDATE: BOAT TRAILER PARKING Work is now beginning with regard to getting the trailer parking area repaired and prepared. As soon as spots are numbered, those boats and/or trailers with current parking permits will be assigned a parking spot. If you see anything that needs attention to at your slip or dock area please let me know. POOL NEWS The pool has seen more use this year than ever before. Foot baths have been placed at each gate to help keep sand from the pool. Thanks for helping to keep our pool area clean. Just a reminder to obey our pool rules that are posted, as well as using common courtesy. The pool will be closed on July 29th for the boat docking event. The hours of operation are Wednesday thru Monday 10 am to 8 pm, Tuesday 1pm to 8pm.
