5 10 OPEN CLASS POLICY AT PRAIRIE LIFE FITNESS In order to better serve our customers, we have an Open Class Policy for all children s classes, with the exception of swimming, parent/child and racquetball. This policy will enable all children to enjoy the various classes that are offered at Prairie Life Fitness. In order to make things run more smoothly, please read below to see how this policy works. If you are checking your child into a Childcare Room, a daily binder will have Sign-up Sheets for each class that is offered that day. If you would like your child to go to a certain class, please sign their name, phone number and membership number on the sheet. When the teacher arrives at the room, they will call the names on that particular Sign-up Sheet. If a teacher has over the maximum number of students allowed for one teacher, a second teacher will be taken to the class to act as an assistant. If you are taking your child directly to a class, please stay with your child until the teacher has arrived. Please do not leave your child unattended in any classroom or gym. At the end of the class, if you are not at your child s classroom or gym, all children will be taken back to the Childcare Rooms. You will be able to check them out from there. If you have any questions concerning this policy change, please Contact Katie Johnson, Kathleen Solem, or Dayle Nervig. Contact Dayle Nervig- dnervig@132.prairielife.com) A SWIM REGISTRATION AND CLASS INFORMATION Placement in swim lessons is determined by skill level. Skill requirements are listed with each swim level schedule. Children must be at least 4 years old by March 17, 2008, to be in Level 1 or above. Level 1- Introduction to Water Skills: Help children feel comfortable in the water. Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic Skills: Give children success with fundamentals. Level 3- Stroke Development: Build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice. Level 4- Stroke Improvement: Develop confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills. Level 5- Stroke Refinement: Provide further coordination and refinement of strokes. Level 6- Swimming and Skill Proficiency: Refines strokes so students swim with ease, efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. FREQUENTLY ASKED SWIMMING QUESTIONS: How many children can be in a swim class? The teacher/child ratios are: Polliwogs- 1 teacher/ 4 children, Levels 1 & 2-1 teacher/ 6 children and Levels 3 & up- 1 teacher/ 8 children. What swim level should my child be in? Level placement is based on skill rather than age. Success and progression in swim lessons are best achieved when children are placed in the appropriate level for their skills. To assist you in choosing your child s level, listed with each level is the minimum skill requirement needed to be in that level. If you have any questions, please contact the Aquatics Department for assistance. Under 14 Pool Rule: Children under 14 must have a parent or guardian (18 years or older) with them in the pool area, unless they have passed a swimming test administered by the Aquatics Director. Upon passing the swimming test, they may swim when a lifeguard is present and a parent or guardian is in the club. Contact the Aquatic Director to arrange for a swim test. 23
