Oct. 26 #12 Colorado State Fort Collins, Colo. 1:00 p.m. MDT SPARTANS TRAVELS TO THE MOUNTAINS FOR TWO CONFERENCE MATCHES : San José State goes out of the Pacific Time Zone for the first time since the opening weekend of the season for two Mountain West matches. The team travels to Wyoming for a Thursday night match and to Colorado State for a Saturday afternoon match. The Spartans are looking for the program s first road Mountain West win after joining the conference July 1. The team recorded both its conference wins at The Event Center (Nevada, 3-2; Air Force, 3-1). MOUNTAIN WEST NETWORK: A free live stream of this week s matches will be available on the Mountain West Network at and on LIVE STATS: All matches this week will have live stats with links available on the Spartan website at ABOUT WYOMING: The Cowgirls enter Thursday night s match with a 13-9 overall record and a 3-5 Mountain West mark. The team split a pair of matches last week, winning 3-1 at San Diego State on Thursday, but falling 3-1 at UNLV. Head coach Chad Callihan is in his first season at the school. Reese Plante leads the team with 205 kills, 2.63 ps, and in hitting at.336. Erin Kirby is the team leader in blocks wit 150, 1.81 ps. San José State has a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams last played in 2003 at the Cowgirl Classic where Wyoming won 3-1. The Spartans won 3-2 in 1996, the last meeting in San Jose. ABOUT #12 COLORADO STATE: The Rams begin the week with a 17-0 overall record and 8-0 Mountain West mark, only one of two undefeated teams in the nation (Missouri the other.) The team hosts Fresno State Thursday night before the Spartans come to town. Head coach Tom Hilbert is in his 17th season at the helm of the program and is an eight-time Mountain West Coach of the Year honoree. Marlee Reynolds leads the team with 190 kills, 3.06 ps, while Samantha Peters is the team s top blocker with 82, 1.41 ps. Colorado State leads the all-time series 6-4. The Spartans won the last meeting between the two teams, 3-2, in the quarterfinal match of the 1998 Western Athletic Conference Tournament at the MGM Grand Garden. The Spartans came back from 0-2 to win the match. SAN JOSÉ STATE HEAD COACH: Oscar Crespo is in his seventh season as head coach with a coaching record. A 1990 San José State graduate, Crespo was named head coach in March of 2007 as the program s sixth head coach. MOUNTAIN WEST PLAY UNDERWAY: San José State started a new era in school history with the school s first Mountain West contest, volleyball versus Boise State on September 26, since joining the conference on July 1. The match against the Broncos was a hard-fought contest as the Spartans rallied from 0-2 to tie the match and send it to a fifth set. The Spartans led 11-8, but a late Boise State rally gave the Broncos a win in the fifth set. Mary Alice O Reilly led the team with 18 kills and six blocks. -CON.-

2 2013 San José State Volleyball CALIFORNIA DREAMIN : This week marks the first time since the first weekend of the season (Aug ) that the Spartans have played outside of the Pacific Time Zone. San José State played 15 of the last 16 matches in the state of California. Since September 1, San José State played just one match outside of the state, Oct. 3 at UNLV. The Spartans played the entire month of September in the state of California, traveling by vans. The team played in tournaments hosted by Sacramento State and the University of the Pacific. San José State played Eastern Washington in the team s home opener and hosted Boise State and Utah State. A NEW YEAR, A NEW ERA BEGINS: The school year began a new era in San José State Athletics history as the school began play in the Mountain West after spending the past 17 years in the Western Athletic Conference. The Spartans are part of the 11-team league that features Air Force, Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, UNLV, Wyoming and the Spartans. All 11 matches will be played in the 5,000-seat venue, located on the corner of 7th and San Carlos Streets. Parking for all spectators is available in the Seventh Street Garage. The move was necessitated by the construction surrounding Spartan Gym and Yosh Uchida Hall. San José State has an record in 15 seasons of playing matches there. NATIONAL RANKINGS: Three Spartans rank among national leaders this week. Michaela Leonard is 23rd in assists per set at ps Hanah Blume is 78th in kills at 3.67 ps, and 116th in points at 4.01 ps. Mary Alice O Reilly is 142nd in blocks at 1.10 ps. ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM SELECTIONS: Two Spartans were named all-tournament selections at the three tournaments the team played at this year. Hanah Blume was named to the Tribe Invitational, Sacramento State Invitational and Bankers Classic All-Tournament teams. Mary Alice O Reilly was selected to the Sacramento State Invitational and Bankers Classic All-Tournament teams. TWO SPARTANS, 20 KILLS SAME MATCH: For the first time since the 2008 season, two San José State volleyball players recorded 20 or more kills in the same match. Against Nevada on October 10, Hanah Blume had a career-best 25 kills, while Lauren Jacobsen also had a career-high 20 kills. The last Spartan pair to record 20+ kills in a match were Kelly Crow with 24 and Niki Clement with 20 in a home match versus Utah State on September 29, COUNTDOWN TO 1,000: Hanah Blume is nearing 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs for her San José State career. She currently has 919 kills, 81 short of becoming the 13th Spartan to reach the 1,000 kill club. The last Spartan players to reach 1,000 kills was MW STATISTICS (Conference Matches) - Through 10/21 Kills - 5th Hanah Blume, 3.52 ps Hitting Percentage - 9th Mary Alice O Reilly,.308 Assists - 1st Michaela Leonard, ps Aces - 6th Kiely Pieper, 0.32 ps Digs - 10th Kiely Pieper, 3.23 ps Points - 5th Hanah Blume, 3.82 ps Colleen Burke and Niki Clement during the 2008 season. Blume is also nearing 1,000 digs at San José State. She currently has 955, needing 45 to become the sixth player in school history to record 1,000 digs. 20/20 DOUBLE: Hanah Blume recorded 21 kills and 20 digs against Winthrop to become the 21st San José State player to record a 20/20 double-double. The last 20/20 double-double came during the 2011 season when Caitlin Andrade had 51 assists and 21 digs at Pacific. SPARTANS BREAK 2 EVENT CENTER SERVING RECORDS: During the Boise State match on September 26, San José State set two Event Center records for serving. Kiely Pieper broke the record set by a Spartan player as she recorded a careerbest seven aces, breaking the old record of five. The Spartans also broke the San José State team Event Center record with 13 aces in the match. TREMENDOUS HITTING NIGHT: San José State hit a seasonhigh.374 in a win over Sacramento State. The team had 50 kills on 107 attempts and only 10 errors. Two Spartans did not commit a hitting error in the match. Hanah Blume hit.517 with a season-best 15 kills on 29 attempts, while Tyanna Roy hit a team-high.588 with 10 kills on 10 attempts. FRESHMAN MAKES IMPACT: Lauren Jacobsen made an immediate impact on the Spartan team at the Tribe

3 2013 San José State Volleyball Invitational. She led the team in kills in her first match in a Spartan uniform with 19 kills at William & Mary and hit.311 for the match ( ). Jacobsen also led team in kills against Campbell as she recorded her first collegiate double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs. DIGGIN THE BALL: Hanah Blume recorded 35 digs in a fiveset loss to Campbell. Blume s 35 digs is just the fourth time in school history that a player has dug that many balls in a match and is the sixth-highest number of digs in a match in school history. The last Spartan player to record 30 or more digs in a match was Courtney Zellmer who had 35 against Gonzaga on August 28, DIGGIN THE BALL, PART 2: Against Campbell, San José State recorded 107 digs as a team. It was the most digs by a Spartan team since the 2007 season when the team had 111 against Boise State ( ). The team recorded 100 or more digs in one other match during that time against Sacramento State on October 13, The 107 digs is the fourth-highest total in Mountain West history. San José State returns four starters from last year s team that finished and 9-9 in the Western Athletic Conference. First team All-WAC honoree Mary Alice O Reilly returns for her junior season at middle blocker after leading the team in kills (342, 3.20 ps) and hitting at.344.
