It was only the third time since the advent of rally scoring, in 2001, that UH was able to hit over.500, and marked the first time UH went a whole match without getting blocked since Oct. 16, 2000, vs. Tulsa. How They Do Against the Best has faced the No. 1 team in the AVCA Coaches Poll 18 times since the poll s inception in 1982, carrying a record of 7-11 against top-ranked squads after their seasonopening loss to Nebraska in the AVCA/NACWAA Volleyball Showcase. UH s has lost their last four matches to teams ranked No. 1. Their last win against a team that was No. 1 in the poll came against UCLA on Sept. 4, Overall, has a record against teams ranked in the top 10, including a 2-5 record thus far this season. It s Been a While Since... The Rainbow Wahine have gone a long time between these occurrences. Last loss to a WAC team oct. 10, 1998 Last conference home loss nov. 10, 1994 Last loss on opposition s home court nov. 24, 2001 Lions Kill Impressive UH Streak The Rainbow Wahine s loss to Loyola Marymount ended their streak of 205 wins against teams that were not ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Coaches Poll. UH s last loss to an unranked opponent came on Sept. 12, 1997, at the hands of Pepperdine (who jumped into the top 25 poll the following week). Six Or More Losses for the Rainbow Wahine With s loss to Loyola Marymount on Sept. 23, the Rainbow Wahine clinched the worst start in school history, going 6-6. This is just the 10th time in program history that UH has reached six losses in a year. This season s total of six losses is already more than any of the players have lost in the rest of their careers at (UH lost two in 2002, two in 2003 and one in 2004). After Further Review, Still a Good Serving Streak UH defensive specialist Raeceen Woolford served 14-straight points against Boise State (9/22), which was believed to be the school record. But, after some research, the record is actually 15-straight points served by Karolyn Kootnekoff on Nov. 6, 1984, at Air Force. Kootnekoff served all 15 points, which is the longest for any match before the advent of rally scoring in Since the NCAA took on the rally-scoring format, UH has had eight streaks of at least 10 points served. Woolford s 14 actually ties the school record with Lily Kahumoku, who served 14-straight points vs. San Diego State on Sept. 6, Here is a list of all the streaks of 10-plus points served since 2001: No. Name Opponent Date 14 Lily Kahumoku San Diego State 9/6/02 14 Raeceen Woolford Boise State 9/22/05 13 Susie Boogaard UCLA 9/2/02 11 Hedder Ilustre at UTEP 10/17/02 11 Susie Boogaard Southern Methodist 11/19/04 11 Teisa Fotu Utah 11/24/04 10 Lauren Duggins San Jose State 11/8/01 10 Kelly Ong Purdue 12/3/ Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Release - Page 6 HawaiiAthletics.com
