DenverWomensLacrosse NOTES LAST TIME OUT Then-No. 13/13 Denver faced its toughest test of the schedule in the second BIG EAST contest of the season against No. 3/3 Florida, succumbing to a loss for only the second time in the 2017 campaign as the Gators won 15-8 DU held a 2-1 lead early in the first half before an 8-1 run from UF closed the stanza at 9-3 in favor of the hosts Sophomore Audrey Schreck potted the first hat trick of her career with three goals on three shots to lead the offense Classmate Julia Feiss was the other multipoint scorer for the Pioneers as she finished with a pair of markers in the game Senior Layne Voorhees paced the defense with six ground balls, a career best, along with two caused turnovers and one draw control Fellow senior Maddy Stevenson took the loss between the pipes for the Crimson and Gold, finishing with 11 saves in all 60 minutes of action Florida was led by two-time BIG EAST Attacker of the Week Mollie Stevens as she posted five goals on 11 shots, six draw control and four ground balls to lead the Gators Shayna Pirreca led all point-getters in the game with six behind a hat trick and a trio of helpers, while Sammi Burgess added five points behind two goals and three assists Haley Hicklen stymied the Denver offense with 12 saves, including nine in the second half, for the win CLIMBING THE LADDER Currently ranked 12th in the nation, senior Ellie Knott is among the nation s elite in draw controls with 5.78 per game On the year, Knott has 52 to put her in a tie for ninth on Denver s single-season draw controls list At her current pace, and with seven guaranteed games left on the schedule, the Baltimore native will finish with 92 draws, which would be a new DU single-season record Knott also has 110 in her career despite only taking draws as a junior and senior, putting her eighth on Denver s career list for draw controls The steady senior is on pace for 150 career draws, putting her fourth all-time FAST STARTS, STRONG FINISHES Denver owns a 7-2 record through nine games, second-best mark in school history, tying the 2006 campaign When DU starts 7-2 or better through nine games, the end result is a deep playoff run as the Pioneers made the MPSF Semifinals once (2012), the MPSF Championship game thrice( /2013), claimed one MPSF Championship title once (2014) and made the NCAA Tournament Second Round twice ( ) HISTORY VS CONNECTICUT This will be the second meeting between the schools as Denver laid claim to a win in the first meeting in 2008 Ranked 14th at the time, DU kept the Huskies winless with a victory, only the 11th occasion at the time in school history the Pioneers had posted at least 20 goals as a team The Crimson and Gold got six goals from Ali Flury and nine points from both Megan Carver (5g/4a) and Steph Coyne (3g/6a) Becky Childs took the win for DU while splitting time in the net with Katie Gold as Childs made three saves to Gold s four UConn had three hat tricks in the contest, one from Kim McGinty, Katy Ryan and Whitney Michele while Michele added four assists in the loss Jenna Moulton made seven saves while taking the decision for Connecticut SCOUTING THE HUSKIES UConn is led by junior Grace Nolan, the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week for Feb. 21, as she owns 21 goals and 15 helpers on the year for 36 points Senior Jacqueline Jordan sits second on the team with 27 points, the only other Husky with over 20 points on the season, behind 19 goals and eight assists Senior Maggie Tripodi and junior Kelsey Catalano are the other UConn members with over 10 goals as Tripodi owns 15 to Catalano s 14 Sophomore Brooke Jensen is the draw control specialist, leading the way with 30, but is also a force on the defensive end with 16 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls Connecticut has a stingy defensive look as six members have at least 10 caused turnovers, led by Jensen s 16 and followed 2017 WOMEN S LACROSSE DENVERPIONEERS.COM 2

In 2015, Kelly led the Pioneers to a 13-5 finish and their fourth straight winning season. Kelly led the Pioneers to their second-straight NCAA Tournament in 2014, where they beat Jacksonville to advance to the Round of 16. Denver went undefeated in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation for the second season in a row in 2014 and finished the year with a 19-2 record. Denver completed the 2013 season with an 18-3 overall record and a perfect 8-0 mark in the MPSF. DU was ranked No. 16 in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Crimson and Gold ranked second in the nation in caused turnovers (11.76), fourth in win percentage (.857), fifth in points (433.0) and ninth in scoring offense (13.9). Denver broke a team record, set a season before, by winning 15-straight games. In 2012, the Pioneers posted a 12-3 overall record and a 6-1 record in the MPSF. DU was No. 1 in the nation in caused turnovers (12.6 per game), 10th in scoring offense (13.93 goals per game) and 11th in scoring margin (4.2). The Pioneers also set a team record by winning 12-straight games. The Pioneers went 13-5 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the MPSF in Denver advanced to the MPSF Championship Tournament final, which DU hosted at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, but was edged by Stanford in double overtime. Denver ended the season ranked No. 20 in the nation. Kelly led the Pioneers to a record of 13-6 overall and 5-0 in the MPSF, concluding the 2008 season ranked No. 19 in the nation. In 2007, Kelly steered DU to a 16-3 mark and a 5-0 sweep of the MPSF schedule, ending the season ranked No. 15. In Kelly s first two years at DU she led her players to success. Kristie Leggio (2007) and Kelly O Connell (2008) picked up IWLCA All-America honors during their careers and were named MPSF Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008, respectively. In addition to her duties with Denver s team, Kelly serves on the NCAA Division I Women s Lacrosse committee. Prior to DU, Kelly served five years as the head coach at Boston University. The Baltimore native posted an impressive (.660) mark as head coach at BU, including consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and America East regular season and tournament championships in 2005 and The Terriers finished in the top-10 in the national rankings in Kelly s final two seasons, and Kelly was named America East Coach of the Year twice during her five-year tenure at BU. During Kelly s tenure, 24 players were named to the America East Honor Roll, while five received selection to the Commissioner s High Honor Roll. In addition, six Terriers received IWLCA Academic Honor Roll accolades. During her five seasons at BU, 15 different Terriers earned a combined 26 selections to the all-conference first team, while 11 players received a combined 19 regional All- America accolades, including the first two first-team All- Americans in program history. Before taking over the reins at BU, Kelly served under Linda Ohrin as an assistant coach at Towson University for three years. Kelly coached the Tigers defense and assisted in scouting and recruiting. As a player, Kelly was a standout midfielder at the University of Delaware from , earning All-America honors in 1996, 1997 and 1998, before playing for the United States National team from Kelly was inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Baltimore Chapter of U.S Lacrosse Hall of Fame in Kelly has held a number of coaching positions. In addition to traveling throughout the U.S. teaching lacrosse, she has been an ambassador for the game of lacrosse all over the world. In 1995, she traveled to Tokyo, Japan, to teach the sport to Japanese University students.
