CAPTAIN CRAIGS CORNER Good evening everybody and welcome to tonight s game against Windsor. It seems strange that we are only in November and after tonight would have played Windsor twice. There must be at least 7 or 8 teams that we have not even played once but that sometimes is just the way the fixtures work out. Of course we lost to Windsor on the opening game of the season, like i said in Saturday s notes we have a lot of new faces in since that game and are a lot better team than the team that took to the pitch that day. I am sure they will have one or two new faces in their team so it should be a quite close entertaining game. Away from the game it will be good to catch up with some old faces from Windsor as i played for them a few years ago when they were then a Ryman Premier side. It s a great club with good people running it and lovely facilities. We were then Windsor and Eton but a lot of people still remain there. Both teams will be desperate for the 3 points tonight, and both will be equally as confident of getting them, but we are at home and we have got to take the game to them from the off. Saturdays game was a little too tight for comfort but we got the all-important 3 points and at the end of the day that s all that matters. A positive from the game was we had three different scores. A lot of people not from our club would have seen Matt Baxter was suspended and seen how many goals he has scored and wondered if we were a one man team. We of course know we are not and that showed on Saturday. We have goals in us from all over the pitch and that can only be good. Of course it s a plus when you have got someone in your team like Bax because he does score freely but we do have others capable as well. Ash i thought was good again. They beat us when we played them away and i thought they were a well drilled team back then. Again on Saturday they caused us problems and i wouldn t be surprised to see them start climbing the table. We showed great character to be 2-1 down on 88 minutes and to turn it round and win 3-2. I must admit when they got their second goal i still thought we were going to get something from the game, and so it proved. A draw wouldn t have been the end of the world but the win sets us up nicely for tonight and also kept up the pressure on the two teams above us. I was very pleased for Dale to get the winner as he has worked hard all season so it was a good moment for him and the team. Every game now is a huge one if we want to remain challenging for the league, teams do try that little extra 1 or 2 % when they play teams at the top and it s up to us to make sure we keep getting results. We have another two big games after tonight. Epsom and Camberley will be massive game s but games we should be looking forward to. Enjoy the game! All the best, Lewy.. 2

Windsor FC History in the making. Summer 2011 and it s rather ironic that 100 years of senior football at Stag Meadow should be celebrated by the birth of a brand new club, Windsor FC, which came to be following the sad demise after 118 years of Windsor & Eton FC. During the final death throes of the previous club it became apparent, following several well attended supporters meetings, that the will was there to continue to host a senior football club in Windsor for the community to embrace and, therefore, on February 4 th 2011 WFC Football Community Development Ltd was registered with Companies House with the aim of achieving that objective. Founding Director Kevin Stott and a newly-appointed management committee then set about the long and sometimes arduous task of turning that dream into a reality. A business plan centred on self-sustainability was formulated and presented to the Football Association which eventually led to acceptance for the new club at level 5 of the non-league system and an allocation to compete in the Premier Division of the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties League for season 2011/12. Now the new club had been accepted it needed a name and invitations were extended to the people of Windsor to nominate and then vote on the new naming process and thus Windsor FC was born. Self-sustaining and community are the two key elements behind the ethos of the new setup and the provision of a 3 rd generation artificial surface training area/small-sided games pitches at the Great Park end of the ground, when completed, will form the first brick in the foundations of the self-sustainability module as well as providing a much-needed facility for the community to use. The other main development thus far on the community side is welcoming on board the 34 teams and over 300 players of New Windsor Youth FC who will now be known as Windsor FC Youth, adopting the club badge and colours and providing a progression pathway from small-sided through to senior football for the youth of the town of Windsor. Other innovative community involvement schemes sees a charity partner displayed on our shirts instead of a sponsors name and we are proud to be involved with Alexander Devine Children s Hospice Service who are aiming to raise funds to build a state of the art Hospice in the local area on land generously paid for by a mystery donor. We also have our very own club mascot Scotty the Stag who regularly appears at local school fetes and other events publicising the club as well as supporting the fund raising activities of the club in general. In his spare time Scotty is becoming a bit of a celebrity taking part in races such as the Mascot Grand National and despite some close finishes is yet to claim his first win but if medals were given for effort then Scotty would be No.1 on the podium! Our founding season turned out to be a very exciting one, eventually finishing as runners-up to worthy Champions Guildford City in the league and we also made it to the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy so it was close but no silverware to show for it, although that is not entirely true as Ryan O Toole won the Golden Boot as top scorer in the Premier Division and Hayden Wheelers efforts in editing our programme led to it being voted best programme in the Premier Division. Several weeks into season 2012/2013 a major decision to operate without a budget was taken to free up funds for the regeneration plans at the ground and the management team and all but three of the playing squad left immediately. Mick Woodham was appointed as our new manager and had two days to get together a squad before our next league game. Despite some heavy defeats early in his tenure as he built a squad of local youngsters the club never lost faith and Mick eventually put together a squad that was to finish a very creditable 6 th in the league as well as another appearance in the semi-finals of the county Senior Trophy competition whilst our Under 18 s side made it all the way to the CCL s Grant McLellan Youth Cup Final eventually losing to a very strong Camberley Town side. Recognition from the league away from football itself was achieved with a runners-up award for the programme in the Premier Division and FA Grounds man of the Year award for the CCL and this was added to in August 2013 when our grounds man Lewis Clements won the FA Grounds man of the Year Award for the whole of Step 5 and 6 football nationally, something both he and the club are justifiably proud of whilst also giving some extra publicity to the CCL. This building process will continue for season 2013/2014 as players are added to the squad with the emphasis on young local players interspersed with some older experienced heads but whatever happens results wise we ll continue to enjoy visiting the many friends we made in our first two seasons in the Combined Counties League and hope they all enjoy their visits to Stag Meadow. 10

Molesey 3-2 Ash United Saturday 16 th November By Andrew Finch Molesey twice came from behind to see off ten men Ash United and move into the top three of the Combined Counties Premier Division. In a dramatic finale Dale Marvell s header deep into injury time secured the points for the Moles after a moment of magic from James Mcshane had drawn the sides level two minutes from time. Tom O Reilly had looked to have won the game for Ash when his deflected effort 15 minutes from time put the visitors in the lead, however, a rash challenge from Jourdan Coleman reduced them to ten men for the final eight minutes, and sensing blood, the Moles were bold and threw men forward in search of the three points. Coleman had given Ash a deserved first half lead, which was cancelled out six minutes before the break by Nick White. It was a clash between two sides at the opposite end of the form table with Molesey going into the game having won six of their last eight, whilst Ash had picked up just a solitary point from their previous five outings. However, the only blemish on that sequence for the Moles was a 2-0 defeat at Ash six weeks ago, so despite the battering given out to Ash s landlords Badshot Lea in midweek, they would have taken nothing for granted. It was a bright start for the home side. Mcshane clipped the top of the Ash bar from 25 yards, and Ross Chalke should have done better than to head McShane s cross harmlessly wide shortly afterwards. As the half wore on the visitors came into the game more, with Ben Bouhorza regular finding space in the hole behind Molesey s midfield and his clever link up play released the pace of Coleman and Michael Campbell to get in behind the Moles on several occasions. They took a deserved lead when Bouhorza found space on the edge of the box and his effort was tipped onto the bar by Wester Young, making his 200 th appearance for the Moles. Coleman was quickest to the rebound and he headed home from three yards. Ben Small fired across goal as the visitors looked to add a second, and it was against the run of play slightly that the home side drew level. 25

Tom Windsor s attempted through ball took a kind deflection and fell invitingly to Nick White in the team for the suspended Matt Baxter and he confidently swept the ball past Ryan Bone into the far corner. The Moles then finished the half the stronger, with Marvell sending a free header over the bar. The home side were on top for much of the second half but rarely troubled Bone. Ash defended and counter-attacked in a way that belied their lowly league position, however, there was an element of fortune in the way they took the lead, both in terms of the nature of the goal and the run of play. An Ash corner was half cleared and fell to O Reilly on the edge of the box. His effort took two deflections en route to goal, giving Young no chance and putting Ash in sight of an early season league double over the Moles. They may well have achieved that double were it not for Coleman s moment of madness. Having already been booked he needlessly lunged in on Joe Pratley-Jones deep inside Molesey territory. The game had been officiated in a sensible manner all afternoon, with the ref avoiding booking players where possible, but he was given no option but to show Coleman a straight red. It was the bit of luck that Molesey needed, and within four minutes Mcshane got himself between the Ash centre halves, and with one touch brought Craig Lewington s 40 yard through ball under his spell, and with the second he lobbed the ball over the advancing Bone to draw the side s level. 92 minutes were on the clock when substitute Tim Pitt s cross from deep was headed back across goal by Kristian Webb for Marvell to plant a header beyond Bone to give the Moles all three points. It was the second time this season that Marvell had struck deep into injury time to give the Moles victory in a five goal thriller, and they will hope those four points prove crucial as the season rumbles on. Their title credentials will be thoroughly examined over the next seven days as they welcome the two sides they re sandwiched between, with fourth placed Windsor due at Walton Road on Tuesday followed by second placed Epsom & Ewell next Saturday. 26

From The Archives, The Moles By Chris Briscoe This season will always be remembered for the close season following it, when, to save the club, a portion of the ground had to be sold off the houses you now see behind the stand behind the goal on the far side. I remember it for traveling to away grounds for the first time in my life! The first one being Hungerford away a 70 mile trip, and this was about a year before the shooting disaster that hit the Town. I always remember that place as being an attractive country village. We won convincingly, 4 1, and all the talk behind the goal was of how good we were and the perennial hopes and dreams that accompany all clubs at the beginning of each season. Police, 1 0 at Walton road in midweek, to go into the Vase match against Combined Counties side, Farleigh, in the Extra Preliminary round. The Moles entered at the earliest stage that year due to losing to Havant in the same stage the year before. This was the case, as they had filled in their application for the 83/84 competition too late thereby missing out that year. Subsequently, the Moles didn t get exemptions until years later Saturday 31st August 1985, FA. Vase: Extra Preliminary Round Farleigh Rovers: (0) 0, Molesey: (1) 1 MARCHING ON. IN a fiercely contested cup-tie, it was Farleigh who had the better of the early part of the game. Once Molesey had settled down a bit on the Farleigh ground, they began to threaten the Farleigh defence and in the 25th minute took the lead through a smart header by Micky BENNETT from John Cook's cross. The game then developed into a midfield battle in driving wind and rain. With chances few and far between in the second half, Molesey finally got through to the next round against strong lower division opposition. The following FA Cup report comes from the Staines and Ashford News... 29

Saturday 7th September 1985, F.A. Cup: 1st Qualifying Round Staines Town: (0) 3, Molesey: (1) 1 Super-sub strikes! SUPER-SUB Paul Devis was the hero of Wheatsheaf Lane on Saturday as he notched two goals in ten minutes to put Town through to the next round of the FA Cup. Devis only got into the squad at the last moment when Phil Unwin had to pull out with an injury suffered at Walton in midweek. With 15 minutes left and Staines facing a probable replay at Molesey, manager Bruce Butler brought Devis on for Alan Beere and within a minute he put Swans ahead. Four minutes later Devis added the killer third goal leaving a delighted Butler to joke: 'He's only played 15 minutes football and he's already our leading goalscorer!' There had been no such smiles from Butler at half-time however when Staines were trailing 1 0 to a harsh penalty. Powerful. Swans were lucky not to go behind in the opening minute when Lara could only parry a powerful header from Andrews and Finn wasted an easy chance to net the rebound. But they looked a lot more positive after the interval and Chris Wheatley was desperately unlucky to see his crunching drive crash off the crossbar. Two minutes later Staines were level as McGarr handled Wheatley's header off the line and Steve Livey fired home a low spot kick. A Devis half volley deflected off Andrews to put Staines in the lead, and six minutes from the end he scored with a neat header at the far post. Said Butler: 'This is a very important win for us. We enjoyed our cup run last season and we want some more this time'. Town are hosts to Welling in the next round. Having won at East Grinstead from the Sussex County League, 1 0, in the preliminary round, the Moles again travelled to Sussex League opposition, and won a tight game which was the second Molesey away game I ever saw Saturday 19th October 1985, F.A. Vase: 1st Round Proper Burgess Hill Town: (0) 0, Molesey: (1) 1 Experience is key for Molesey. MOLESEY had to call on all their experience to earn this FA Vase first round victory at Burgess Hill on Saturday. Playing against a well organised Sussex County outfit, Molesey despite being without leading striker John Reader had just enough extra class to see them through. If they had taken more of the chances created Molesey might well have enjoyed a much more comfortable passage through to a second round home tie against Sudbury Town on November 23. As it was they had to rely on a 20th minute goal from Roland Gryzbeck, who had happily returned after four weeks out with an ankle injury. Gryzbeck did well to get on the end of an accurate cross from Tony McGarr, to head past the Burgess Hill goalkeeper. Molesey's exit from the Vase was not reported locally, but in the Ipswich-based, Suffolk and Essex Free Press: Saturday 23rd November 1985, F.A. Vase: 2nd Round Proper Molesey: (0) 0, Sudbury Town: (1) 3 Magnificent. SUDBURY staged a marvellous show to put them on the first F.A. Vase road to Wembley. 'Boro survived a last minute arrival, two fiat footballs and a booking, to prove once again that they can compete and win at a higher level Molesey are third in the Vauxhall-Opel League! In the end Molesey had little to offer in the way of reply to the Suffolk onslaught. EVERGREEN. Manager Malcolm MacKenzie was delighted with the display by his players. 'It was probably our best game of the season', he enthused, and they put on a magnificent show'. John Elden came into central defence for cup tied Stuart Halls and gave an evergreen performance, and 'keeper Alan Peatfield produced two vital saves when it mattered. Up front John Taylor 'converted to centre forward made his presence felt and Paul Smith caused the Molesey defenders problem after problem. But it was defender Gary Barker who was the scoring hero of the day. He headed Sudbury in front just before the break from a Kevin Morrison corner. And from an exactly similar position he scored the third after 80 minutes. But the goal of the match in the 70th minute had to belong to Paul Smith. He controlled Marty Thorpe's up field punt sweetly, turned and outwitted two defenders and completed the move with a fierce drive that gave 'keeper Jackson no chance. Molesey were not without their moments however, and Alan Peatfield produced full length saves to deny Wooldridge and 30

Gryzbeck. And only a timely sliding tackle to deny Hodge by John Elden, and a boot over his own bar by Marty Thorpe to deny the in rushing Gryzbeck saved the situation. SUPERIOR. But overall Sudbury were clearly the superior side. They might have had a more impressive score line if efforts from Taylor, Morrison, Mickey Haddock and Dave Barber had not been saved or blocked. Kevin Morrison and defender Cumber were both booked after a series of altercations and soon after was substituted by Glenn Appleby who was himself standing in for Andy Bloom who had withdrawn from the squad because of a bout of tonsillitis. I went to the above game having brought 2 school mates with me, before the match I had hyped it up, saying we were in the last 124 (!) and that it was a national competition. When walking to the ground with them (I lived in Monks Avenue in those days), my friends expressed surprise that there were no hoards of Molesey fans walking down Central Avenue!! Saturday 7th December 1985, Vauxhall-Opel League Division 2 South Molesey: (2) 3, Woking: (0) 2 Title hopes take a setback. WOKING went top of the league on Tuesday night but on Saturday looked more like bottom of the table strugglers against Molesey. With both defences suspect under pressure, there should have been further goals, but the cards atrocious finishing coupled with Molesey's inability to accept two of the game's easiest chances kept the score down. Three goals down with less than 20 minutes remaining, Woking raised hopes by staging a grandstand finale but it proved too little too late. Molesey soon went ahead, when the unmarked Gary Maynard headed home Micky Cumber's free kick. Seven minutes later Dave Lansley made a hash of clearing Tony McGarr's corner and then impeded his own 'keeper to allow Alan Hodge a goal. Woking recovered for the remainder of the half, but Danny McGranaghan, Colin McDonald, Justin Horner and Lansley were all off target. Molesey made it 3 0 when a splendid move split Woking's defence wide open for Wright to hook in. Woking suddenly came to life and when Adie Cowler's effort was blocked McGranaghan was on hand to shoot the rebound in. This was quickly followed by 'keeper Dave Jackson failing to hold Adie Probert's long drive for Horner to slot home. Lansley, Paul Jablowski and John Cassidy all failed to convert further opportunities in an exciting finish which left Woking one point behind leaders Bracknell. 31

After that win over Woking (the best result of the season), I went to Chobham (in those days a Combined Counties side), and what I remember from that game was their main stand. It could literally only hold about 3 people!!! Saturday 14th December 1985, Surrey Senior Cup: 5th Qualifying Round Chobham: (0) 1, Molesey: (2) 3 Moles win through. MOLESEY made the short journey to Chobham last Saturday and comfortably progressed into the next round of the Surrey Senior Cup. Molesey seemed to find their rhythm first, and only a goal-line clearance by Pegg, from Molesey skipper Paul Andrew's header, stopped the Moles from going one up after five minutes. Three minutes later however, Molesey got the breakthrough when the Chobham keeper Sims, tried to punch out a corner, only to find the ball strike Gary Maynard's head and rebound into the empty net. Molesey kept up the pressure and in the 19th minute Steve Wright saw his shot from just outside the box fly only inches over the bar. In the 34th minute, Molesey were awarded a free kick 35 yards out on the right touchline. John Cook took the kick and his leaping shot towards goal was tipped over the bar by Sims. The resulting corner ended with Roland Gryzbeck tapping the ball in from two yards after Maynard had knocked back from the far post. Dominant. Molesey continued the second half in the dominant fashion with which they had completed the first, and with 20 minutes left Martin Wilde ran through, but was brought down inside the area, and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty. Gryzbeck strode up and hammered the penalty low to the right-hand side, as the keeper went the wrong way. Ten minutes later Geoff Wooldridge created himself an opportunity and his 30-yard drive was well saved by Sims. The last 10 minutes saw Chobham play some attractive football and five minutes from time Mason stole in unnoticed at Molesey's far post to tap in a late consolation goal for the home side. The overall Molesey performance was one of an encouraging nature as they rarely moved out of second gear. On an unhappy note Molesey wish to offer their sympathy to Barry Humphries, a youth team player, whose face was badly injured in a fixture last Friday against Tooting and Mitcham youth we hope he makes a speedy recovery. This took the Moles into the first round proper where they travelled to Sandy Lane to take on Premier Division side, Tooting. I remember going to this game, and picking up a local Tooting paper when I went to Wimbledon (Plough Lane) the following week... Saturday 4th January 1986, Surrey Senior Cup: 1st Round Proper Tooting & Mitcham United: (0) 1, Molesey: (0) 0 Ossie comes up trumps. OSSIE Bayram came up trumps yet again as Tooting & Mitcham made hard work of beating Molesey in this Surrey Senior Cup first round clash at Sandy Lane on Saturday. After a disappointing first-half which saw both side struggling to string any significant moves together, Bayram popped up with 15 minutes to go to earn his side a second round place. The goal came from a Paul Haverson free-kick. The ball was driven into the area and Bayram, with his back to goal, flicked the ball superbly past the stranded Molesey keeper. Overall Tooting deserved the victory after Molesey keeper Dave Jackson had pulled off some marvellous second half saves from Haverson, Danny Godwin and Edgar Awaritefe. Tooting's manager, Dave Donaldson (Walton & Hersham and Wimbledon fame) was reported to be quite pleased with the result, saying, I like to have won with more conviction, but in cup games you just tend to look to get through the early stages. For some reason, I could not go to the away match at Woking, but one of my school friends did and travelled on the Molesey coach there. After the game, when driving away, it was noticed that there was a fire back in Woking somewhere My friend, Simon Brooks, told me of being shocked when he heard the comment on the coach, Hope that s Kingfield going up in flames!! I just smiled, for I knew that was the Molesey way! Saturday 12th April 1986, Vauxhall-Opel League Division 2 South 32

Woking: (0) 1, Molesey: (0) 0 PROMOTION RACE SO TOUGH. A TENSE promotion tussle between rival Surrey contenders finished with Woking gaining the crucial points to take their dreams a step nearer reality. Dave Lansley's late winner, however, could well ruin Molesey's hopes of going up to division one of the Vauxhall Opel League next season. With both sides obviously affected by nerves it proved a scrappy hard fought affair marred unfortunately by an off-the-ball incident between Woking's Adie Cowler and Molesey's Neil Sabourn which resulted in both men being sent off. Cowler cleared off the line from Francis Vines but Woking went closest to scoring when Paul Jablonski's angled drive struck under the bar. Cards 'keeper Chris Lomas then did well to tip over a free kick from the battling Tony Coombes. With Adie Probart replacing Cassidy and Mark Dawber making a belated impression the Cards suddenly came to life. Only five minutes remained when Dawber's cross created confusion in Molesey's goalmouth, for Lansley's header to find its way past several defenders. That loss at Woking really scuppered our chances of going up that year, but truth be told, we had already dropped too many points before then to make a strong challenge. Tuesday 29th April 1986, Vauxhall-Opel League Division 2 South Metropolitan Police: (2) 3, Molesey: (0) 0 Mets win derby clash. THREE weeks ago this local derby fixture, originally scheduled for Boxing Day, looked as though it might be a crunch encounter, with both clubs fighting for a promotion place. Since then both the Mets and Molesey have lost too many important games and are both now out of the hunt. But you would not have believed it if the enthusiasm and commitment of the players was anything to go by. Both sides were playing for pride but it was the Mets who really have something to prove, having lost to Molesey 1 0 in the second game of the season and finishing worse off in the league than their rivals from the other side of town. Although Molesey seemed to have the possession for most of the evening, it was the Mets who looked dangerous with their sharp counter-attacks and, against the play, and the Police took the lead in the eighth minute. Graham Taylor sent John Nicholson free, with only 'keeper Dave Jackson to beat, as the Molesey players waited for an offside decision. Yet Nicholson was allowed to continue and comfortably slotted the ball home. Despite sustained pressure, Molesey were still unable to trouble Ian Stillwell in the Mets' goal, with Roland Gryzbeck, Geoff Wooldridge and manager Derek Vaughan all having efforts but failing to hit the target. Their next chance came following a corner when a Gary Maynard header was dipping towards the goal, before Derek Finn deflected the ball over the top, in an attempt to provide the finishing touch. The Mets almost added to the score in the 33rd minute through an inventive free kick from 20 yards. Taylor scooped the ball over the wall for Mario Russo to volley a fine shot, which Jackson saved. Two minutes later the Mets made it 2 0 after a careful build up culminating in Russo putting through Mets' midfield maestro, Mel Thomas. He beat a defender, rounded the 'keeper and scored a fine goal from an acute angle. A minute into the second half, Mets added a third goal, when Nicholson again broke clear. Jackson did well to save his original shot but, with no defenders in sight, 33

Nicholson was able to head in the rebound. Molesey continued to pressurise and Alan Hodge, Vaughan and Gryzbeck all had efforts foiled by Stillwell. Molesey's workman found it increasingly difficult to penetrate. Suburban League: South Division: Molesey Reserves: PLD W D L F A PTS H A 1. WHILE it has been a week of frustration and disappointments for the Walton and Hersham's senior team there was nothing but delight for Swan's youths. They overcame the arctic conditions and a brave Molesey outfit, to become the first team through to this season's Southern Youth League Cup semi-finals. In a see-saw first half, Walton's fluent attacking play brought goals from Scott Clifford, Darren O'Neill and Phil Wingfield. Their defence was not nearly so impressive in this period, however, and Molesey striker John Humphrey took full advantage, with a well taken hat-trick. A half-time reshuffle brought far more stability to Swans rear guard and with Dominic Feltham giving a very impressive display they sealed victory with goals from Dougie Hughes, Wingfield and Mitchell. 34

The game finished 3 3, despite 'having a two goal lead', and the replay on the south coast was 'fast and furious' and also finished 3 3! The result of the replay, at Walton Road again, on October 1st is again unknown to me... Molesey's 0 3 defeat at Imber Court, looked like the last match the club would ever play, for it soon began to emerge that the club were in debt to the tune of 50,000, I have also heard the figure 77,000. The money had to be paid very quickly, and the chairman's plan to 'save the club' by relocating was rejected by the members as this report from the Surrey Herald describes: Slide into oblivion. MOLESEY Football Club are 50,000 in debt and could face a high court winding up order in the next week. They approach the bleak future without their chairman Graham Pearce and his eight-strong committee who resigned en-block when their 2m. Rescue plan was thrown out at a stormy, emotion-charged meeting on Monday night. The plan to sell the 5-acre Walton Road site to housing developers for 2m. And to move the 1.5m ultra-modern stadium to a nearby site was defeated by 59 votes to 23. 'I am absolutely shattered,' said a distressed Graham Pearce, who had been forced to sit through a barrage of complaints and recriminations from the 100-plus gathering. 'This club is on the brink, and we believed this plan was the only life line. 'The creditors are all waiting on the outcome of this meeting, but now the rescue package has been thrown out. I expect the Inland Revenue to apply at the High Court for an injunction to wind the club up, and the other creditors will follow in after them'. Earlier, in a lengthy statement, Mr Pearce had shocked club members with the full details of the losses. More than 23,000 is owed in loans and trading charges to Watney's, plus 5,600 to the bank; another 4,000 to the Inland Revenue; 1,000 in VAT and 16,000 to other creditors. 'It is quite obvious that the playing of football has cost the club a lot of money as it does every other club in our league,' said Mr Pearce, who revealed that Molesey had been paying out 225 a week to run their football sides. 'But the problems also arise from getting insufficient support from the locality and our own club members,' he added. Molesey had been fortunate in getting some sponsorship, but the profits made from the clubhouse and social sections had not been enough to stem the tide. 'We would need to borrow 30,000 to clear our immediate problem, but we would still need to somehow raise another 15,000 to 20,000 to do vital maintenance to the club building and ground.' Mr Pearce added that after considering all the options he had approached two major building companies, Wates and McAlpines, who had each offered 2m. For the land, and had agreed the club a new stadium, either at Hurst Park or, at a large sports ground in Hersham. Both companies were willing to pay an immediate and non-returnable 50,000, regardless of whether they eventually got planning permission to build houses on the Walton Road site. All Mr Pearce's arguments were clearly to no avail, however, as speaker after speaker from the hall haranged the committee for not having given members enough warning of the impending financial disaster, and for not having done enough to promote fundraising activities. 'We don't want to go,' became an increasingly loud chorus and the split between the football and social sides of the club when one member said: 'Why don't we get a loan from the bank, shut down the football side and lease the ground out to outside organisations possibly just running a junior side ourselves.' There was furious cheering when Roy Rudley, a former club chairman announced: 'This club was built by the people of Molesey, for the people of Molesey and that's the way it's got to stay.' However, stony silence greeted the views of former secretary Kevin Wilkins who said: 'Four years ago at a similar crisis meeting there were scores of people who said they would rally round the club; they never did, and I have heard no constructive argument tonight for any alternative plan on how we can raise the money to avert disaster.' This appeal went unheard and there were more scenes of jubilation when the no vote was announced and with it the resignation of the entire committee. Also, in the same paper: junior rescue plan. MOLESEY'S final match with arch local rivals Met. Police on Tuesday was almost certainly their last in the Vauxhall Opel League. That became clear in the aftermath of Monday's meeting when two of the men determined to reform the club outlined their rescue plan. Tom Kavanagh Jr, and Gary Mayne who are expected to help form the new committee at another extraordinary general meeting 35
