thegaffer Phil Ellery Good afternoon and welcome to Knaphill FC. Today we entertain Epsom Athletic at Redding Way, this will be another tough game, we have had a tough start to the season and one that I am not proud of and myself and the players are hurting, believe me. The last time we were at home we were well and truly beaten by a very good Frimley Green, we had players missing but we let ourselves down in a big way, last Saturday saw us travel to Premier Division Ash United in The FA Vase, I was delighted to give a debut to new signing Ryan Williams and also welcome Billy Jones and Michael Pym back to the squad for their first games of the season, I made six changes from the starting line up against Frimley Green and despite losing the game 1-2 I was very happy with the performance. I am hoping we can take that performance into today s game and we can start a good run of wins which will help us climb the table quickly, I still believe we have the personnel in this squad to challenge for honours, I am hoping to add two new players this week which will massively benefit us, the key thing is to stay positive and continue to work hard and prepare properly, if we do this the results will come. I would like to wish our skipper Jim Ward a speedy recovery from his hernia operation and hope he gets back playing soon. I'm sure we are going to turn things very soon and lets hope it starts today. Enjoy the Game. Phil sponsored by theknappers

MATCH REPORT Combined Counties League Division One August 27th 2012 Redding Way K.O 11.30am Knaphill 0 FRIMLEY GREEN 5 Simmonds (3), Thumgood, Muir No goals, no points, equals a blank holiday Monday for Knaphill, as Frimley Green found their five goal win gain maximum points with ease. The main problem for Knaphill at the moment is a lack of striking power up front, and with another reshuffle in their team line up on Monday, there wasn t much to compliment defence or midfield. Unlike two days earlier in the single goal defeat away to Mole Valley, there was an encouraging display from these two areas, but against Frimley Green, a second successive match without a goal, there appeared a rather disjointed and lack lustre team performance. An early chance fell to the home side after 16 minutes, when Jay Coombes hooked his effort just over the bar from close range after Craig Knowles slipped the ball to him in the six yard box. No such problem for the visitors four minutes later when from a quick break when Dan Simmonds found space, and with a stretched defence, slotted home to give Frimley Green the lead. It was left to Knaphill defender Alex Headland to have a crack at goal in the 27th minute from 20 yards, but his effort veered wide of the post. The visitors increased their lead after 37 minutes when Gavin Muir lined up a perfect strike that flew into the net between Nash and his near post. Three minutes before halftime, the visitors went 3-0 up through Nick Thumgood. Starting the second half with a three goal deficit was a massive task for Knaphill to get themselves back into the game. Unfortunately that task was too much as the home side needed to step up a gear, but never really appeared to get out of the first gear from the first half. Coombes had an effort blocked and turned for a corner after 55 minutes, but apart from that, not sufficient pressure or threat on the visitors goal to reduce the arrears. Frimley Green forged further ahead with two goals in the last fifteen minutes, Dan Simmonds making it 4-0 after 77 minutes, then completed his hat trick and Frimley s fifth ten minutes later. A high fives finish for the visitors, but zero for the home side, who after gaining just one win from their first five games, are in need of a bit of a wake up call and some needed points if they want to steer clear of the lower regions in Division One. Team: Nash, Redrup(Cox 68mins), Headland, J.Ward, Niven, Pearce, (Dart 73mins), Fouracre, Knowles, Coombes(Postance 68mins), Craig, Abdellah. Booked: Craig, Redrup, Knowles theknappers

GU21 News around the ground Good afternoon and welcome to League newcomers Epsom Athletic, their players, officials and supporters for their first visit to Redding Way. Last weekend both Epsom and ourselves were involved in FA Vase games, our visitors had a seven goal encounter against Premier Division Camberley Town and it was a 90 th minute goal that knocked them out of the competition with their visitors winning 4-3. Knaphill also came up against Premier opponents in the visit to Ash United, but despite showing an improvement in their game from the league defeat by Frimley Green the previous Monday, Knaphill went out of the Vase in a narrow 2-1 defeat. Although making a 1 st Qualifying round exit for the second successive season in the tie at Ash last weekend, the team showed up better than our defeat against Horley last year. It was a poor start that did the damage in this year s competition, conceding two goals in the first seven minutes. A big task at anytime of the game to recover but so early on, it made it more difficult. However they did improve as the game went on and showed some dominating spells in the second half, and in the 50 th minute Craig Knowles pulled a goal back when his shot looped over the static Ash keeper. It sparked Knaphill to put on some pressure, and Michael Pym making his return from injury, almost notched the equaliser when his fine header cannoned off the post. But despite further pressure from the visitors as the half progressed, it finished with an exit from the FA Vase. Knaphill s last home league game, on Bank Holiday Monday, brought about a 5-0 defeat on a day they simply did not play well enough or deserve to get anything from the game. A poor finish to the August programme of five games that had seen just one win, away to Warlingham. We look for a change of fortunes during September, a crucial month for picking up points, before we enter October which is going to be a very busy month in the League and Cup competition with a total of eight games. After the Monday morning game for the first team, Knaphill Ladies were in action in the afternoon when they hosted their 2nd Charity Day event at Redding Way. The two games played, by Ladies 1 st team and Ladies Reserves, against Cobham and Westfield respectively raised money for two charities Christophers Smile and Macmillan. Theknappers

Our Reserves have played three successive home games having won two, against Sheerwater and Worcester Park, but last Saturday suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat by Sandhurst Town, and are third in the Reserves Division. Today they have a Challenge Cup 1 st round match away at Warlingham. Player wise, we ve seen two new arrivals at Knaphill in the past couple of weeks, Ryan Williams and Billy Jones were both in the squad at Ash last Saturday, whilst Paul Wetherall has made the move to Hampshire club Eversley & California. Knaphill skipper James Ward will be out of action for at least four weeks following a hernia operation on Wednesday. League games coming up: Next Saturday 15 th September Knaphill are away to second place Spelthorne Sports. The following Saturday 22 nd September play hosts to another new team to Division One this season, AFC Croydon Athletic kick-off 3pm. Meanwhile, we look forward to an entertaining encounter this afternoon and gain our first home points of the season. Enjoy the game.. Bryan Theknappers

introducing Epsom athletic FC EPSOM ATHLETICS SHORT HISTORY This club has come a long way in its short history and this has been because of some hard work and great togetherness. The players that started with Epsom Athletic in the early days are the reason we are where we are today. Some of them players are still involved with this club which is great. We started in the Sutton & District league and made our way up three divisions, winning the first division in season 98/99 and then winning the premier 99/00 season. We then entered the Surrey South Eastern league making our way through another three divisions, we never won a division but we had some luck one season when we came third and ended up going up. We came runners up seasons 02/03 and 06/07 in the SSEC. We also had a runner up medal in the SSEC league cup season 02/03 and our only major honour was winning that cup in season 05/06, that same season we were also runners up in the intermediate county cup. We then joined the Elite league and played in the division since it started in Season 2010/2011 we came second which gave us the right to enter the Combined Counties league but because we didn't have the criteria we had to stay in the division, season 2011/2012 we won the league with 3 games to spare and because we now ground share with Chessington and Hook who play in the combined premier league, we now meet the criteria. We are now a semi senior club with great ambition, 'togetherness and sprit' will put this club on the map. Mr Paul Burstow the Chairman of the football club started this adventure and proclaimed 10 years ago that this club would compete in the Combined Counties. Well we are here and we aim to stay!! 20 Plenty in reserve The latest news from the reserves..with Manager Paul Dyer Knaphill 6 Worcester Park 1 - Saturday 25th August 2012 Our secound game of the season saw us build on from the first game. We started well from kick-off and dominated the first half with Jay Coombes scoring two goals both being excellent lobs over the keeper. The next goal came from Max Fourace with a well taken cross come shot. We went in at half-time 3-0 up. In the second half we dominated for the first twenty minutes with Ryan Pilley planting a perfect header into the back of the net. Then for ten minutes we took our foot of the pedal to conceed a sloppy goal, after some stern words from the technical area Jay Coombes completed his hatrick of lobs to make it five goals, minutes later Dan Cox made it six for a well deserved victory. Knaphill 1 - Sandhurst 2 - Saturday 1st September 2012 We came up against a strong Sandhurst team on Saturday, with a number of their first team playing. After a even affair Sandhurst took the lead after twenty five minutes with a penalty. We carried on working hard and it paid of on forty minutes with well worked goal from Charlie Postance going in at half time level. In the second half there were chances for both teams but we got caught on the break to go 2-1 down on the seventh minute mark, for the last twenty minutes we pushed hard but their keeper kept everything out we could throw at him. 22 We ve got youth on our side with Nick Croshaw Youth Team Secretary Farnham Town U18 4 Knaphill U18 2 Boosted after their superb performance by winning away at Godalming Town, the trip to Farnham Town was looked forward to, but ultimately ended in real disappointment as the team struggled to find the cohesion and fluidity seen at Godalming playing against a physical Farnham side. The scene was set as early as the third minute as indecisive defending led to a blatant trip on a Farnham player in the box and a penalty was duly awarded. Despite Craig Taylor in the Knaphill goal guessing the right way, the ball was expertly placed in the left hand corner for a 1-0 lead to Farnham. Then on the quarter hour Steve Kemp took a corner from the right which swung in, evading every-one and pinged in off the far post for the equaliser, 1-1. With 10 minutes to go before half-time a low cross sped across the box and only the Farnham player on the far post reacted for a simple tap-in, 2-1. The half ended in acrimony as McLaughlin reacted angrily to words said to him by one or more of the Farnham defence and the game was held up whilst tempers calmed down. The second half started a scare as a back pass left keeper Taylor exposed to a 1 on 1 which he dealt with superbly and cleared the ball upfield. More poor defending followed as another back pass resulted in a brave dive from Taylor who got a kick for his troubles. Farnham scented blood and on 58 minutes a fierce shot was palmed away by Taylor, but again the first to react were Farnham for another tap-in and 3-1. Knaphill tried to get back into the game with Jonny Coats again leading the way, however further Farnham pressure saw the defence push up and get caught on the break with a 1 on 1 that Taylor couldn t stop this time 4-1. However 5 minutes later, Abdelhamid Senousaoui fired in a 25 yard shot into the top right hand corner for 4-2. For the second game running captain Jonny Coats received not only a booking, but he was awarded the Man of the Match award from the opposition. The Knappers have started to gel together and with a strong performance from the back four there is much to be excited about. The old faces of Jonny Coats, Josh Dawber and Craig Taylor have set themselves the task of settling in their younger team-mates and the three of them showed their worth against Farnham by rescuing the team on a number of occasions. The speed and skill of the forwards needs to be honed into them taking their chances and not shooting straight at the keeper or worse; high, wide and handsome. theknappers
