4 PRESIDENT S REPORT You ll find two weeks worth of reports in this Newsletter. Thanks to those teams that are contributing. I am sure the kids love to read about how they are going. For those teams not submitting reports, it doesn t look great and I hope you make an effort in the last few weeks of the year. On a disappointing note, we have too many players, supporters and coaches not giving our referees, opponents and Ground Managers enough respect. As a club we want to be known as the Family Club and I am not happy with the some of the language I have been hearing of late. I ask that everyone has a think before they decide to yell out at the opponents or referees. What I have heard of late does not do our club any favours. I have some good news for our 1 st Grade players. Although they will miss out on the finals, we have three players from our 1 st Grade selected as nominees for the best players in their respective positions. Congratulations to Rob Wishart, Dom Wallace and Luther Vaotua. They will find out on the Saturday night during the Junior League Ball if they are successful. Good luck. See below our summary for the Chocolate Fundraiser from Kellie Beckett. Thanks to everyone that made an effort to seel chocolates, and a special thankyou to those that sold many boxes. Obviously thanks to Kellie for organising it again this year. Chocolate Fundraiser Thanks to everyone that helped support this years Chocolate Fundraiser. There are still a few teams that have not yet returned their money. Could managers please make this a priority and chase up money to return to me by the end of this week. A special mention to our top Fundraisers for this year. First place went to the Featherstone family from the 9B s that sold a total of 17 boxes. Second place went to the McCulloh family from the 10A s that sold a total of 10 boxes. A great effort from both families and I will organise to get your prizes to you. Special mention also to the Butler, Roberson, Markou, Clay, Hulbert and Ratcliffe families that sold a number of extra boxes. A big thankyou to Jay and our seniors who organised the CLUB TRAINING NIGHT on Wednesday night. Even though the Sharks and Dragons players had their training sessions clash (last minute), I am sure the boys that attended had a great time. A big thankyou to Henry Perenara (NRL Referee) and Mitch Brown (NRL player) for attending and helping out with our training session. It was the biggest game of tackle bull rush I have ever seen. Finally, managers will receive this weekend tickets for the Monster Draw. I hope everyone makes an effort to sell these tickets. The money from every ticket sold goes directly to the club. The NRL match dollar for dollar what we sell. Hence, it is extremely important that any tickets NOT sold are returned to the club as we pay for the tickets that are not sold. 11 U6 RED SPONSORED BY FOOTSTEPS EARLY LEARNING CENTRE & CANDY BROKERS Matthew Hewett Kim Clifton GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: De La Salle SCORE: DRAW This was a great game of Under 6 Rugby League. The Crocs started well, making good yards and busting through tackles, with Zach M scoring his first try. In defence the boys moved forward as a team and made some great tackles. De La improved their defence in the second period and from this point the game was a great contest. The teams swapped tries and all the boys made good runs and tackles. Special mention goes to Ashton for making his best runs of the season. In the end a draw was a fitting result for such an evenly contested match. Tries: Cooper 2, Kobe, Zach M, Zac R Goals: Kingston Player of the day: Tai Results from previous weeks: Crocs 4 - Gorillas 18 at Scylla Bay Crocs 4 - Crocs Green 28 at Scylla Bay Crocs 20 - Roosters 12 at Akuna Rd Crocs 18 - Sutho Loftus 28 at Sutherland Oval Sorry about the lack of reports team. Matt GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Dragons SCORE: WON 38-4 Como Jannali Crocodiles Red 38 (Tries: Cooper 2, Zach M 2, Kingston 2, Kobe 1, Zach R 1; Goals: Cooper 1, Kobe 1, Kingston 1) versus Engadine Dragons Blue 4. Venue: Anzac Oval In wet and slippery conditions the boys made some fantastic runs leading to some wonderful tries. Special mention Page 11 of 44

12 to Cooper, Zach M and Kingston for scoring two each. The play the balls were quicker and the boys were more efficient getting in position which at times caught the Engadine defence out of position. The other highlight in attack was the team converting three tries - Cooper, Kobe and Kingston. In defence we made some strong tackles and restricted the Dragons to one try and only a few line breaks. However, we still need to work on our defensive line and our spread across the field. At times we looked like a footy team and at others we looked like a herd of cows. Remember boys it's as simple as "helicopters" and "crocodiles". Player of the day went to a player who constantly performs and surprises in defence. Again I have to say that Ashton has a copybook tackling technique and regularly drops opposition players at least twice his size. Looking forward to the game against the Stingrays on Saturday. See you at training. Matt Page 12 of 44

13 U6 GREEN SPONSORED BY FOOTSTEPS EARLY LEARNING CENTRE & SPORTS TECHNOLOGY INTERNATIONAL Maehe Reweti Natalie Palummo GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Kurnell SCORE: LOST Another riveting match today, although we went down to a fired up Kurnell side. Today we were led out by our captain Sam. Unfortunately we lost the toss but set ourselves to receive the kick. The first set saw the crocs utilise the passing drill with off load after off load - most impressed with everyone ball handling skills. Our defence was not the strongest today, but although we were always on the back foot we still had some exceptional tackles and cover defence from Logan, Sam, Kaden, Max and Taj. Hunter had his fast legs on, had a big strong run but was tackled from behind, preventing a try. Sam scored a try with his elusive stepping and tackle evasion skills, most impressive to watch. Kaden also scored after a good team effort setting up position and getting the play for Kaden to knock his way over in the corner. Excellent teamwork. A big croc clap for Tane, after last week s man of the Match, he has backed it up with two big runs - footy legend in the making. Toby, Charlie, Matty and Ziggy were missed today, but well done to the team on the field for putting in 100%. It's all about being the best that you can be, so keep your chin up, practice your drills and get ready for another game next week. Well done Sent from my iphone Page 13 of 44

14 GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Sutherland SCORE: WIN Another riveting match today against a tough and talented Sutho side enduring the cold and rain. Captain Charlie missed the coin toss, luckily Toby stepped up to win the toss and elected to kick. Sutho demonstrated their strength and speed from the start, laying the expectations for the Como boys to respond stronger and faster. Exceptional teamwork won us the game, with passing, cover defence and running in support of our players with the ball. Unbelievable to watch how far your all coming. Highlights of the game include Hunter's break through, almost full length of the field run with sheer determination spread across his face. Exceptional tackles from Matty and Taj bringing down strong players consistently. Caden, Max and Charlie had exceptional runs, sidestepping and dodging their way around players. Don't forget Como, run strong and hard forwards no fancy backwards circles! Most impressed with the two supporting tries from Logan and Sam who backed up Tobys big runs and were each able to get the ball across the line. Let's not forget Mr Consistent, Tane, who continued busting out his big runs and scaring the opposition into a "held" call before things got serious. Ziggy, timely with the oranges yet again. Looking forward to getting the cast off your arm so you can run on the field next game for the last time of the season. Toby, absolutely well-deserved man of the match; using his skills to make some amazing runs and tackles. A great team effort today and a well-deserved win. Page 14 of 44

16 U6 BLUE/GOLD SPONSORED BY FOOTSTEPS EARLY LEARNING CENTRE & EVOLUTION BUILDING TRAINER: Peter Thomas Tammy O Mahony Clayton Solly GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: St Pats SCORE: LOST Bit of an odd week for us heading to Kurnell to play St Pat s and with our Coach and Trainer life members of St Pat s combined with a chill factor in the minuses it felt a bit like Silly Saturday. But still we hit the field with enthusiasm and passion for the game lead by this week s Captain Jack we were on the board early when Jack scooped on a fumble from Pat s and flew over for a try Olly attempted conversation looked like it was over but fell just short. What can we say about our defence it was outstanding today, everyone and I mean everyone contributed Aaron, Daniel, Josh, Olly and Jack were taking them down fast, Luke and Zach not afraid to take on the bigger boys some of them twice their height, but fearless in defending the try line. There was strong runs up the line from Luke, Josh and even Tyler seemed unstoppable once he got into the game. It was cold out there for the players and families but the way the boys played today made it worth the frost bite. Very Proud of all the boys. Although we were defeated we played well final score St Pat s 24 Como 12. Note for training, we may need to practice our kicking 3 Players of the match today: Daniel What a little champion even after some heavy tackles he just gets up and on with it, he s really a strong player and gives 30mins every week, Top Work Dan. Aaron From the season start Aaron has made huge improvements in his footy, every week he is getting stronger and pushing forward in attack, an absolute little gem. Zachary He took down men literally twice his size today, every week he reads the game well in attack and defence, well Done Zach. Tries Jack -2, Olly - 1 Page 16 of 44

17 GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Aquinas SCORE: LOST Lucky captain Luke had been able to solder on through a week of sickness to lead a team of 7 out onto the field. We looked strong through the continual rain that fell on a soggy Aquinas field and before long of lovely clean bright green and White jerseys were muddy once again. As always we defended well and with Daniel and Jack N not only assisting in bringing the Colts to the ground both boys had solid forward runs in attack, Jack N even managed a tricky side step to fly past one defender, a move I am sure he has been practising a home, Tyler put in a good effort in the cold, but after an early run made his way to the bench to assisted the manager with the scoring, she certainly welcomed the assistance with 3 tries and a convert from Jack and Oliver s length of the field run to score it was an eventful game Aquinas scoring well themselves and converting it was a well-balanced contest Zach and Luke were strong in attack with Luke managing to break the defence on each run forward and Zach chasing the defence into their own half to tackle them, we were a team on a mission. Jack, Olly and Luke s combination in defence was in sync and even though we were down to 6 boys but they chased the Aquinas boys down with everything they had, in the cold and rain the boys stood proud, and as the final siren sounded the Aquinas finished their final run with a try, giving them the win by just points. Final score Let s practice our kicking boys it makes a difference in these close games. 3 boys were given Men of the Match today. Tyler gives it a go every week, he is still figuring out what it s all about but he comes to training and the game every week and he has a go You are a Star Jack N what a little champion, he s certainly got footy in the bones he has just settled into the game easily he reads the play, and the last few weeks has shown an ability to outwit the opposition in attack Top Work Jack N Luke is so consistent every week, his game has gone from strength to strength this year and through the never give up attitude you have just made an enormous impact on our team Awesome Champ! 18 U7 SILVER SPONSORED BY COMO PHARMACY & JA BRADSHAW CIVIL CONTRACTING Josh Benton Shelley Ratcliffe GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Engadine SCORE: WON 26-6 It was a wild and windy morning at Engadine that saw the boys put on one of their best defensive efforts of the season. The Dragons had a lot of the ball early in the match and were camped in our half but some great tackling lead by Cody put the pressure back on the Dragons. Tommy scored some good long range tries on the back of the defence and Tobi crossed for a couple of tries with his usual determined runs. It looked like it was going to be a whitewash but the Dragons crossed the line after the bell for a consolation try. It was a great effort from all the boys and a well-deserved win against the Dragons. Man of the Match Tobi Top Tackler Cody GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: De la Salle SCORE: LOST Today wasn't our day! The boys came up against a very enthusiastic opposition De la Salle. Our boys got off to a very slow start as their opponents ran in three early tries. We came back in the second third of the game with some strong runs and a try by Toby which he converted. De La kept up their intensity running away with the game in the last third. Cody scored a great try in the corner and Toby did finish with another great try on the other wing. Jude, Tom and Jacob had some good runs too. Man of the match to Tom. Page 18 of 44

19 U7 YELLOW SPONSORED BY LIFESTYLE BUILDING + DESIGN & BAY CONSTRUCTION & DEVELOPMENT TRAINER: Jay Tarlinton Steve Morgan & Hope Steman Dave Slone GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Kurnell Stingrays SCORE: LOST Our 0900 game at Kurnell was wet, cold and we were 1 man down but that didn t stop the boys putting in their best effort. First period saw lots of good defense on both sides but Kurnell got over the line for a 6 pointer. Second period saw Kurnell get over the line twice again before Carter scored after a good long run. We went into the second break with a score of 16-4 Kurnell. Last period saw Carter take another good run dodging some strong Kurnell defense to score and Alex followed up with the conversion. In the end though, Kurnell ran away with the game with another 2 tries to finish the game 24/10. Even though the result did not go our way we were extremely proud of the boys performance especially the effort shown in tough conditions. Although the score doesn t reflect it, our structure in defense improved markedly throughout the game. Final Score to Kurnell Tries - 2x Goals- 1x Carter Alex Man of the Match Carter Page 19 of 44

20 U8A SPONSORED BY NOS GROUP, BELLALUCE & HOW BIZAARE HAIR AND MAKE-UP TRAINER: George Roukanas Karen Roberson Paul Halpin GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: De La Salle SCORE: WON On a cold windy morning down at Scylla Bay Oval, the crocs were ready to do battle with De la. After the opening period the crocs, appeared to be battling with the conditions as their line speed in defence was slow and we lacked any punch in attack. We conceded two soft tries and hit back with a try to Keegan to go into the first change down Lachlan was playing a great game with some incisive running, whilst Kegsy was defending very well on his edge of the field. The second period saw a revved up crocs team come out and begin to place De La under pressure. Oscar and Jacob led the charge forcing several turnovers with their line speed in defence. Charles scored a magnificent solo try, and with Noah converting, the two sides went into the final change locked up at 10 all. It was a tight battle in the third period as both sides went in search for the match winning play. Both defensive lines were very strong as they continually applied pressure. Tommy went agonisingly close scoring with De La producing a great try saving. Unfortunately he had to come off with a head knock. Aiden slotted into dummy half and on the back of an incisive Keegan run, he flew out of dummy half and found Oscar in support who assessed the numbers out wide to offload to Keegan who scored the winning try. It was an enthralling battle. Jacob earned himself the man of the match through his defensive pressure and organisational skills, whilst Kegsy defended brilliantly all day. Go Crocs! Tries: Keegan (2), Charles (1) Goals: Noah MOM: Jacob 3 points Top Tackler: Keegan 2 points Oscar - 1 point Page 20 of 44

21 GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Yarrawarrah SCORE: WON 32-6 With the season coming to the back end of the rounds, the pressure was once again on the boys to continue momentum from last week s victory against the tigers. The boys this week started very well defensively moving up as one. Tommy lead from the front defensively with good line speed as the crocs gave the tigers no room to move. Aiden was dynamic with the ball scoring two great tries to see the crocs go into the first change with 10-0 lead. The second period saw the Tigers apply more pressure to the crocs line but some great last ditch defence by Jacob Charles and Tommy denied the tigers. Aiden scored another great try and with only seconds left on the clock Keegan found open space to score a length of the field try to take the score out to The third period saw the crocs maintain their intensity with Aiden scoring another two tries to take his tally to 5 for the game. Yarrawarrah scored a consolation try, but ultimately the class of the crocs shone through. All boys played very well with strong running, great teamwork, and pride in defence the cornerstone for another impressive victory. Go the crocs! Tries: Aiden (5) Keegan (1) Goals: Oscar, Noah, Keegan, Lachlan MOM: Aiden-3points Top Tackler: Tommy-2 points Keegan-1 point Page 21 of 44

22 U8B SPONSORED BY NOS GROUP, BELLALUCE & HOW BIZAARE HAIR & MAKE-UP TRAINER: Tony Robinson Jim Katsikas Steve Paes GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Kurnell SCORE: LOST In another great effort, the boys were competitive again this week but we just lacked that little extra to finish the game off. Nate is out injured and returns in a few weeks and Christian will be back for our final game. Kade from the C s helped us out this week. We started the game a little slow with Kurnell getting out to a 10 nil lead before Liam made a great run from dummy half for the first of his 4 tries. The boys again ran onto the ball well and defended well, particularly good in defence was Harry, Kade, Kyan, Lachlan, Nathan and Liam. At the end of the first 10 it was pretty close. In the second 10 Harry had moved into first receiver and did a great job of organising the boys in attack. We continued to run and defend well with some great runs from Declan, Lachlan, Will and Kade. Will also started to find his confidence in defence. At the end of the second 10 we were only down by 2 points. Despite urgings and encouragement by the coaching staff at the final break, in the final 10 mins the boys again dropped off in defence. This allowed Kurnell to get a break on us and despite some good attack by the boys we were unable to make up the difference. Tackling practice will again be on the agenda for training this week. A special thanks to Kade for helping us out. Tries: Liam 4 Goals: Will 1 Man of the Match: Liam Best Tacklers: Kade and Harry 1 Point to Will Page 22 of 44

23 GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Engadine SCORE: LOST The boys were competitive again this week in another great effort against one of the competition front runners. Nate returned from injury but Will and Harry were away and Christian will be back for our final game. Harry B, Connor and Cody stepped up from the C s to help us out this week. We started the game a poorly in defence with Engadine scoring a try from the kick off. We did rally fairly quickly, an off load from Liam resulting in some great passing from the boys that resulted in Nathan scoring his first of 3 tries. We showed definite signs of improvement in defence with the boys on some occasions moving up in a fairly good line in defence. Unfortunately this didn t occur consistently. The score was fairly close going to the first break. In the second 10 we continued to show glimpses of good defence with some excellent tackling from Kyan, Harry B, Nathan, Nate and Liam. Of course we can t forget some great try savers from Lachlan in cover defence from fullback. Nathan crossed for another try off a Liam off load. But we started to get behind in the score. We held on fairly well in the final 10 but again we just dropped off moving up in our defensive line a little in the final 10. Lachlan, Connor and Cody all made a couple of good runs. So a good effort in the end by the boys with three of our regular team not available to play. Tackling practice will again be on the agenda for training this week. A special thanks to Harry B, Connor and Cody for helping us out. Tries: Nathan - 3 Goals: 0 Man of the Match: Nathan Best Tacklers: Kyan 1 Point to Nate Page 23 of 44

The boys continued their outstanding defence from last week and, on the back of Jack's darting runs, Fynn's magnificent kicking and Sam's tremendous passing, played perfect wet weather Rugby League. Jack was told to run as much as he could and followed those instructions to the letter. Fynn's long kicking put Engadine under immense pressure and we scored 2 tries from them. Not only did Sam organise the team brilliantly, he crossed for a sensational "show and go" try and kicked his first "toe poker goal". Bailey, Koby and Leon were all very string and made the "hard" yards and "hard tackles when they needed to be made. Team Awards Hunter - Aggressive running meant some excellent offloads. Positioning himself better in defence. Lachlan - Proved to be a mud runner as he ploughed through the "yuck" to score 2 runaways. Luke - Kick chase sensational consistent wide defence, "what a goal". Kye - Went over for his first 4 pointer after a tremendous long distance sprint. Toby - Proved to have "A" grade defence. Nobody passed him on our right side. Tries: Lachlan 2, Fynn, Luke, Kye, Sam. 26 U9B SPONSORED BY CONFIX CONSTRUCTIONS TRAINER: John Mannah Peter O Donnell Brandon Mannah GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Gymea 2 SCORE: WON 22-6 Arctic conditions at Yarrawarrah must have suited the boys as they came out firing and never looked like taking a backward step. Strong running from Eden and Sam, fierce tackling from Tanna and brilliant goal line defence from the whole team defined the start of the game. Early converted tries to Tanna and Jed were well supported by some monster tackles from Mitch. Nathan kept the team moving with well structured decoy plays and some great kicking along with a try saving tackle on half time. Harry was everywhere, making great breaks and coming up with his usual bootlace tackles. As always, Pat, Alex and Jack were great in both defence and attack. Further tries to Jed and Toby and a conversion from Nathan took the game out of reach for Gymea who played well but could not match our intensity. Great game boys. Keep it up! Man of the Match: Eden GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Caringbah 2 SCORE: WON 22-4 Wonderful day for football and with the finals within a whisper the boys had a great game Defensively they looked organised both by Toby and Nathan. The boys were slow to get off the Mark and went into the sheds at half time 6-0 up thanks to a great run and goal from Jed. The second half the boys got into some rhythm and with some good forward running from Pat, Mitch, Jack,Olly and the two Alex s, Jack got a great try, Followed by Toby s little sneaky one from 3 metres out and finished with another great run from Jed with a Try. Great kicking from the boys today Thanks to Eden and Tanner. All in all good footy, good Banter, plenty of mud and enthusiastic boys made for a great morning. 27 U10A SPONSORED BY STRAIGHT UP BUILDING & NOS GROUP TRAINER: Brendan Sexty Matt Stubbs Kim Francois Rod Coates GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Engadine SCORE: WON The past 3 encounters between the two teams have resulted in a draw. Which team was going to brake the current deadlock. The stage was set and the boys were eager to break this standing hoodoo. Simple message from the coaching staff: run hard, tackle harder. The coaches also challenging the boy s attitude for the full 40 minutes. A gruelling first half saw Como create some good chances to only be shut down last minute by some desperate dragon defence. As a result of such gritty defence by the dragons resulted in the scores again being even at nil all at half time. Half time message was simple again. Maintain the composure and points will come and let's apply some pressure on their attack through aggressive defence. And boy did the boys listen. Early in the first half saw the boys muscle up in D allowing us to go straight on the attack. As a result of good field position points came. Engadine replied with a try off an excellent offload that was SBW like. The Como boys did not panic and continued to play excellent football allowing them to put the dragons under the pump again. As a result another 6 points leading to a well-earned victory. Wow, what a game it was. Full credit to the boys, they played some very, very, very good football today. All team members put in 100% today. Let's keep up the good work; train hard and results will continue to come. MOM: -Blissy, Lawson, Gordy Tallis Trainers award: -Ryno Page 27 of 44

Yarrawarrah came out really wanting to win this one, and after too many missed tackles from us early, we were 12 nil down after 4 mins. The boys hit back in the 7 th minute with a nice try out wide to Dylan that took the scores into half time 12 points to 4. At half time we spoke about lifting our intensity and enthusiasm which was missing at the start of the game. The second half really turned into an arm wrestle and it went try for try with Blake scoring our second 3 minutes in taking the score to 12 points to 10. Yarrawarrah hit back again 6 minutes in as did we straight after with a second try to Dylan, taking the score line to 18 points to 16. That would be our last with Yarrawarrah scoring a late try, with the score to finish with Yarrawarrah winning 22 points to 16. A special mention to Logan who played today after being off school all week sick he played really well in the middle as he always does and pulled off the tackle of the day. Great work Logan. The Crocs defence was solid all game with every boy putting 100% into each tackle. Their attack was strong and team passing was the key to their forward movement. Tries to Harvey, Liam, Flynn and Kurt, who scored after taking a brilliant intercept pass. Conversions by Kaen and Harrison helped the Crocs score move ahead. Unfortunately the full time hooter sounded before our boys could get across for one more try and the Titans won by just 2 points with the final score being Paul was so impressed by the boys "team" effort that each boy received 3 player of match points. Go Crocs! Page 31 of 44

32 U12A SPONSORED BY SYDNEY EXPRESS MEATS & SHIRE ELECTRICAL ASSISTANT TRAINER: Paul Fuller Dean Longville Craig Perryman Guy Willoughby GAME PLAYED: 19 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Aquinas SCORE: DRAW 6-6 Today we came up against the team running third and after 3 weeks off which included school holidays, a bye and for some of the boys a rugby tour to NZ we knew it would be a tough one. In a strong defensive game from both teams and a referee who kept a very short defensive line the opportunities to score points were minimal. However we did manage to create several overlaps but unfortunately we couldn't capitalise and tended to hold on to the ball just that little bit to long. Defensively all the boys were superb and with a few training runs under out belts we will be back to where we were before the long break. 3 - Nathan 2 - Jai 1 - Jaiden GAME PLAYED: 26 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Gymea SCORE: WON 12-6 Today we played a team which could have been easily underestimated based on their position on the table. We knew that we could expect a tough game as all the games Gymea have lost this year were by very narrow margins and we needed to treat them with respect. Page 32 of 44

33 Once again the defence from both teams was strong and neither team wanted to give an inch. We improved on our attack from last game and our wingers saw the ball regularly. Our forwards also ran some great decoys as well as displaying their passing game. We finally broke their defence and went to the half time break with a 6 point lead. Gymea came out in the second half and were fired up but we held them in defence and managed to put another 6 points on the board to go to a 12-0 lead. At this point it looked like we may run away with the game but after handing the ball back to Gymea on early tackles we gave them an opportunity to get back into the game. Gymea scored late in the second half which left us with about 5 minutes to either put more points on or defend our lead. It turned out that Gymea lifted after their try and at one stage in the second half with a few minutes to go our boys had to defend numerous repeat sets from Gymea on our line but we managed to keep them from scoring with our desperate defence. We went on to win a high quality game of football which even had officials from the next game commenting on how good it was. A number of players could have received points this week as in previous games as all the boys were impressive. Only 2 more games to the finals and being equal first on the ladder this is the time to be fully committed and ready to give it your best in every game. Boys you have earnt the respect of your opposition with your hard work this year lets finish the season the way we know we can. Well done boys. Page 33 of 44

The boys came out fired up after a shock result last weekend. Our big forwards smashed the De La forwards from the opening bell. Our backline was as smooth as silk and kept the De La fancy guys on the back foot. Coach Cliffo's half time speech hit the spot and the boys finished the more fancied De La team off in the second half. Big Jack had an absolute blinder and thoroughly deserved his man of the match award. Page 34 of 44

With not many weeks left in the season we need to start concentrating and playing as a team. We have to rely on the players on our left and right and have confidence that we will not let each other down. Today you could say our defence was good in patches as we tackled for most of the first 15 minutes. However, we had lapses in concentration and let De La Salle in for some easy tries. In attack we were good in patches when we decided to hold the ball. We got the footy out to our wings on a few occasions which was pleasing to see. We tried a few back lines moves and scored off a set scrum play. There were some great individual efforts. Jinksy played well in attack and defence. He is starting to use his footwork before the line enabling him to get to the ground quickly or offer an offload. It s great to see him listening at training and putting it into practice on the field. Jinksy was rewarded with the 3 points for his efforts. Two points today went to Connor. Every time Connor had the football in his hands he rang strongly and was always difficult for the defence to stop. He continually made line breaks. Page 35 of 44

36 His passing skills are improving and catching the high ball no longer fears him as he now has very safe hands. Keep up the effort and practice at training Connor and you can only get better. One point went to Adam Rae. He is so strong in defence and his passing skills are spot on. We just need those around him to support him for the full 50 minutes. We have last year s premiers Sutherland next week. Let s knuckle down and start playing to our potential. Tries: D Arcy 1, Henry 1, Connor 1, Mitch 1, Jackson 1 and Jack W 1. We then thought we had won the game, went to sleep, let them in for a try from the scrum letting them back in the game Thanakrit then got us clear again but as usual we let them bust through from halfway with 5 seconds before half time to again let them back in the game Second half we knuckled down, held them for 15 minutes then sealed the deal with tries from Saulsy again, Reece and Zach with a barge over. A rather dysfunctional game with lots of dropped ball and mistakes, forwards in the backline and wrong options. There were many times when we should have passed the ball and either didn t look, too scared to pass or just hogged it let the try or break diffuse. Special mention to the secret screamer who scared them into dropping 2 bombs, good offload from Pat, good return kicks from Will, good defence in the middle from Reece, Tom and T. All in all a good win but need to lift next week with the leaders Gymea next week. Thanks to Yvette and Zach for the energy before the game. Thanks also to Rebecca from Nutrition Australia and Roland Beckett for the presentation and talk to the boys at training last week. The first half had its ups and downs but we led 6-0 until close till half time. We had two players leave the field in the first half not to return. It was a hard fought game and at anyone could win. Lucky for us Caringbah are playing the same way. It is a see sawing game with the change of possession that is being played in the middle of the field with Dan Poulsen and Luke Bateman playing major rolls. All is looking even until Robert Wishart makes a break and lines up Daniel Falconbridge to score our first points. Rob seems to be in everything at this moment in time. This is a very fast pace game and our boys are hanging in there with some fine efforts by Ezekiel Vaotuua and Jack Moran. But Caringbah with a grinding effort evens the score and only moments later they make another break from within their own half and beat nearly everyone to score again. Como has lost a bit of concentration and are missing major tackles that are allowing Caringbah to score points. But Como came back to surprise the crowd to attack the line and cracked the defence to allow Francis Lalouatui in his debut to score his first try. Down 18 to 10 at the break but we are still hopeful. It seemed that Como did not re-take the field with the intensity needed and the will to win. Although some of the boys are showing signs of tiredness Hayden Fepuleai and Dylan Sparks are still putting on some heavy hits that is providing inspiration for Rob to be able to cross the line to keep us in touch. But again a simple lack of concentration and we let Caringbah score again after a 60 metre break. Como are struggling to maintain possession and are defending too much and becoming anxious and cannot contain the Caringbah attack although Ziggy and Michael Iacono were still defending well toward the end. Toward the finish of the game Como had let in too many points to be competitive we did however score a consolation try in the last minute of the game to make it a more respectful result. 43 Players Player 3. Robert Wishart 2. Ezekiel Vaotuua 1. Luke Bateman From the Hill GAME PLAYED: 27 July 2014 OPPOSITION: Gymea SCORE: LOST 32-0 Como are holding tight so far and well into the game our boys are still defending enthusiastically but are giving away indiscriminate penalties. We are passing the ball neatly and are backing up each other quite well and are looking good in patches. But, again we are missing vital tackles that had led to Gymea to scoring a 70 metre try. As the game progressed it is still tight at this point. Como are patiently grafting away with individual players performing exceptional well such as Phil Schwenke and Dylan Sparks both in their defence and their attacking techniques. Como are holding their line as Dominic Wallace is excelling in the chasing down of the kicks and keeping Gymea contained within their own half. For extended periods of time the Como side have attacked the Gymea line without success. Luke Bateman and Daniel Poulsen are playing major roles in this effort. But unfortunately within the last two minutes of the half Gymea cross the line again to score under the post to increase their lead to be 10 to nil at the break. At this point in the match the score does not reflect the trend of the game. The game in the second half presented Como with losing momentum as they allowed Gymea to again score another two more quick tries. But our boys did come back to attack the line with a courageous input from Robert Wishart and Ezekiel Vaotuua. Unfortunately we came up with nothing. Gymea are backing up too well in attack and playing too well for Como to maintain and scored too many points for our boys to continue to be competitive. The loss today deleted any hopes that we may have had to continue on to the semi-finals. Best & Fairest Players Player 3. Ezekiel Vaotuua 2. Luke Bateman 1.
