2 Stephen Castelli President s Pen 12 th November 2018 President Report We have been particularly busy in the last week with the following: Wed Breakfast club, Onion cutting and Bread Project Thurs Breakfast Club, Bunnings BBQ, Board Meeting and Bread Project Fri Breakfast Club, Tree Lopping at Andy Valk s House, Bread Project Sat Wellard Markets Sun Wreath Laying for 100 yr. anniversary of Armistice Day, and Traffic Management at Millers Landing. These events, functions, projects are only possible with the help of all of the members of the club, and I sincerely wish to thank 1 and all for their participation. It is the volunteers in our club that make it possible to continue with these projects through your support and contribution. If anyone is not able to attend a normal scheduled Monday night meeting, then you must advise our Attendance Officer Greg Williams by noon on the Sunday before the meeting. Last week, we had booked and paid for 30 persons, however, we only had 18 persons attend and pay. This is quite a cost to the club and a waste of perfectly good food. The club does not want to resort to making drastic changes, so I plead with you to always advise Greg as early as you can if you are unable to attend. The calendar coming up is a little busy too with the following: Mon 19/11 Bus tour of the Kwinana Industrial Area. Leaving the club rooms at 16:30. Cost is $5 per person. Normal meeting after the bus tour. Thurs 22/11 Long Table Dinner Traffic Management for street closure. Thanks to Mike and Max for being the traffic Managers. 8 Kwinana s famous Lolly Run on Christmas morning Santa and his helpers will once again deliver lollies to residents as part of Kwinana s most-loved Christmas tradition the Lolly Run. The first Lolly Run took place in 1954 and was run by resident Alf Lydon and Kwinana s Toc H Branch Members. Today, the Lolly Run is co-ordinated by the Rotary Club of Kwinana and the City of Kwinana. The Lolly Run is also made possible thanks to several volunteer groups including Mandogalup and Kwinana South bushfire brigades. Dozens of volunteers also put up their hands each year to help organise and bag lollies in preparation for the Lolly Run. Rotary Club of Kwinana director of projects John Iriks said he came to Kwinana in I ve received the lollies, my kids have received lollies and now my grandchildren are receiving lollies Kwinana Mayor Carol Adams and Lolly Run volunteer said the Lolly Run was a unique tradition showcasing the rich community spirit Kwinana was known for. Every Christmas morning we see groups of volunteers ride their colourfully decorated sleighs, trucks and utes through the streets- delivering lollies and festive cheer to children and their families, she said. The Lolly Run is on Christmas Day morning, from 7.30am to noon. Santa and helpers will visit every street in Kwinana to deliver lollies listen for the beeps. (Sound Telegraph.) Volunteers are invited to join us in bagging the 65,000 lollies that will be distributed by Santa throughout the streets of Kwinana on Christmas morning. Join us at the Darius Wells Library and Resource Centre on Thursday, 6 December from 1.30pm to help us bag lollies for the festivities.

9 DISTRICT 9465 CONFERENCE COLLIE MARCH 2019 Rotary District 9465 Governor 2018/19 Robyn Yates Visiting our club on Monday December 3 rd 2018 I grew up with parents who were willing to put themselves out for others in need and so I was comfortable at a young age in giving without expecting anything in return. I learnt how the smallest acts of kindness could change someone s day for the better and put a smile on a stranger s face. Joining the Rotary world has allowed me to continue to help others in need and I still marvel at how the effects of the simplest act of kindness can last forever. Rotary is indeed a phenomenal and unique organisation consisting of members worldwide. There are no boundaries, we have different backgrounds and different cultures, yet we come together as one to better the lives of those in need. Rotary International President, Barry Rassin, has designed the theme logo on this basis-how the oceans and skies connect continents to come together as one. An example of this is the tireless work being undertaken by Rotary to eradicate Polio worldwide. A challenge deemed impossible in the beginning is now so close it s almost unbearable to hear of new cases. As heart breaking as it is, eight new cases in two countries this year is a far cry from the beginning. As Bill Gates has said we are achingly close to getting rid of Polio; more than 99% of the way. Finishing the job is the big challenge, but it is very doable, if we keep up the effort. Bill Gates believes in our work and through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has extended the two-for-one funding agreement for another three years. I also believe in this worthy cause, so much that I have chosen to support the world-wide project during my term as District Governor. I would like all Clubs and even individual members, to consider making a donation to continue eradication efforts; don t forget, we need to be Polio free for three years before we can announce that, finally, the world is Polio Free. To entice your contributions I have decided to do something a little extreme in anticipation of the funds that will be raised. At the District Conference Governor s Gala Dinner in Collie on Saturday 23 March 2019 I will shave my head. I trust this will be an incentive for you to support the Polio eradication programme. I look forward to the next twelve months and visiting all the Clubs in District 9465 and I thank you in anticipation of the continued good work you do as Rotarians.

10 An Engineer was unemployed for long time. He could not find a job so he opened a medical clinic and puts a sign up outside: "Get your treatment for $500, if not successful get back $1,000." One Doctor thinks this is a good opportunity to earn $1,000 and goes to his clinic. Doctor: "I have lost taste in my mouth." Engineer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth." Doctor: "This is Petrol!" Engineer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500." The Doctor gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days later to recover his money. Doctor: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything." Engineer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth." Doctor: "But that is Petrol!" Engineer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500." The Doctor leaves angrily and comes back after several more days. Doctor: "My eyesight has become weak." Engineer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for this. Take this $1,000." Doctor: "But this is only $500..." Engineer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500. No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery. A dog gave birth to puppies near the road and was cited for littering. A grenade thrown into a kitchen in France would result in Linoleum Blownapart. Two silk worms had a race.
