HandiCamp coming up in January 2016, participants are needed especially carer s/buddies, we have 1 participant and we are told that we don t need to provide a carer. Pres. Max Bird International Lorraine Lucas Youth Christmas Lolly Run has run into a bureaucratic brick wall, the opportunity of Santa and helpers travelling in the open back of vehicles and trailers has been denied. A ruling has been received by the COK that all persons must travel inside the vehicle and will be required to wear a seatbelt. This ruling effectively takes away a 50+ years tradition in Kwinana. PP Chris Oughton commented that local police were quite comfortable with our procedures, a uniformed officer actually sat in the trailer he used last year, we should not let overzealous bureaucrats wreck a tradition. Lorraine Lucas and PP Mike Nella are picking up leftover bread products from Bakers Delight Baldivis, Rockingham and Kwinana to distribute to many community organisations around Kwinana including Gilmore College, Leda, Bertram, Calista, Parmelia Breakfast Club s. Lorraine commented that most of the bread needs to be sliced, Mike Metcalf has refurbished a slicer which is proving to invaluable. Lorraine and Mike wish to sincerely thank Bakers Delight for their very generous support. PP Chris Oughton is seeking our support for the plan to restrict development in the Buffer Zone between Industry and existing urban development. 5 International Report: The international Committee has carried out the following. We all returned safe and well from Timor-Leste, no one got shot, lost or put in jail, although the same as Perth the dreaded logy was rife and we all got a dose of the flu, Bob Cooper came of the worse with two trips to the doctor. Reports are just about done and can be ready for presentation next week However it was a very successful trip and a credit to all that went. Meetings arranged with Pushpa and Brian Eddy on Wednesday 4 th November re foundation and surplus school computers. I will also be the guest speaker at Cockburn Thursday 5 th November & Mount Barker on the 17 th November. Max Bird ABC 21 Oct 2015 See link below for the full report. Residential housing to be barred under Kwinana industry buffer plan sent for public comment. The WA Government has released draft laws it says will stop urban development encroaching on the industrial area around Kwinana by prohibiting new housing and other "sensitive" developments in the area. The proposed legislation released for public comment by Premier Colin Barnett would establish a protection area around the Western Trade Coast, stretching from the southern part of the City of Cockburn to the northern part of the City of Rockingham. It would incorporate either part or all of Munster, Henderson, Naval Base, Kwinana Beach, Hope Valley, Postans and East Rockingham, following the line of the Kwinana Industrial Buffer Boundary established in Under the legislation, "new sensitive land uses" such as residential housing, short-stay accommodation, hospitals, schools and child care centres would be barred within the protection area. But the regulations would still allow "non-sensitive land uses" like business and commercial activities and would only affect new developments, not existing land use. Anybody found breaching the regulations could face a fine of up to $50,000 and a daily penalty of $5,000. Mr Barnett said the proposed legislation would protect an important area of the state. "The bill is intended to provide certainty for land use planning around the Western Trade Coast industrial area, which is a vital driver for the state's economy employing thousands of people," he told Parliament. "It will also protect the Western Trade Coast from encroaching residential development and help to provide some separation between industrial activities and new sensitive land uses." Industrial advocates have previously complained that the existing buffer was under attack from developers and local government because the laws were weak and open to challenge.

7 Guest Speaker: PP Genevieve Carr Origins of the Rotary 4 Way Test What is the Four Way Test? Since the earliest days of the organisation, Rotarians have aimed to promote high ethical standards in their professional lives. One of Rotary s most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics is the Four-Way Test. This test is used by Rotarians worldwide as a moral code for personal and business relationships. The Four-Way Test was conceived in 1932 at the height of the Great Depression by Herbert J Taylor, a Chicago Rotarian who later became President of Rotary International during its 50 th Anniversary Year (1954/55). In the early 1930s Taylor was asked to take charge of a company known as the Club Aluminium Products Distribution Company. This company, which had 250 employees, was on the verge of bankruptcy. Taylor s aim was to revive the troubled firm, and thus he single-mindedly searched for a yardstick of ethics that the workers at his company could use. Taylor subsequently hit on a 24 word statement which asked four questions and which became known as the Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do. To quote: The first job was to set policies for the company that would reflect the high ethics and morals God would want in any business. If the people who worked for Club Aluminium were to think right, I knew they would do right. What we needed was a simple, easily remembered guide to right conduct a sort of ethical yardstick which all of us in the company could memorize and apply to what we thought, said and did. I searched through many books for the answer to our need, but the right phrases eluded me, so I did what I often do when I have a problem I can t answer myself: I turn to the One who has all the answers. I leaned over my desk, rested my head in my hands and prayed. After a few moments, I looked up and reached for a white paper card. Then I wrote down the twenty-four words that had come to me:... The twenty-four words, put together as four questions were: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? As a result of his workers applying this test to everything they thought, said or did, a climate of trust and goodwill developed amongst dealers, customers and employees which changed the business prospects of the company. During the 1940s, when Taylor was an international director of Rotary, he offered the Four-Way Test to the organization, and it was adopted by Rotary for its internal and promotional use. In 1954 Taylor gave Rotary the copyright for the test, although he retained the rights to use the test for himself, his Club Aluminium Company, and the Christian Workers Foundation. The Four-Way Test has never changed, and remains today a central part of the permanent Rotary structure throughout the world, and is held as the standard by which all behaviour should be measured.

10 A couple are sitting in their living room, sipping wine. Out of the blue, the wife says, I love you. Is that you or the wine talking? asks the husband. It s me, says the wife. Talking to the wine. My husband is in the army, and he said the most wonderful things to convince me to marry him: The closets could all be mine since he wears the same thing every day. I could have as many babies as I want because giving birth is free. He would never get on my nerves, because he would always be away. A husband and wife had been married for 60 years and had no secrets except for one: The woman kept in her closet a shoe box that she forbade her husband from ever opening. But when she was on her deathbed and with her blessing he opened the box and found a crocheted doll and $95,000 in cash. My mother told me that the secret to a happy marriage was to never argue, she explained. Instead, I should keep quiet and crochet a doll. Her husband was touched. Only one doll was in the box that meant she d been angry with him only once in 60 years. But what about all this money? he asked. Oh, she said, that s the money I made from selling the dolls. My client buys many rental properties, not always with the enthusiastic support of his wife. Recently, I was showing him a home when his wife called. I could hear her ask what he was doing. The real estate agent and I are having an affair, he answered. Oh, thank God, she said. I thought she was selling you another house.
