1 VOLUME 54 January 2019 NUMBER 01 JANUARY MEETING Thursday, January 17, Farmhouse Rest Wet Fly / Social Gathering: Dinner / General Meeting: 6:00PM 7:00PM The President Corner! By: Robin LaRue I hope you all had a Wonderful Holiday and/ or a Merry Christmas! Did the Christmas Eve visitor leave that spey rod that you had been eyeing, oh well maybe next year. Mother Nature huffed and puffed and blew out the power in LaConner and blew away the plans for the annual December party, but us fly fishers are resilient and the party has been rescheduled for January 31 st. At the November meeting a sign-up sheet for volunteers for dinner sales and Ghillie duties was circulated. I am happy to say members stepped up and filled the slots for the January through May meetings. Thank you everyone. Speaking of Volunteers, I have been talking to club members regarding our Club s Committees, and I am happy to announce the following Committee Chairs; Outings Steven Foster, Club Store Mardick Stevens, Youth Education Danny Beatty, Pass Lake Census Bruce Freet, WAHOO Editor Carl Hendrick, Webmaster Mark Nilson. The Grants Committee has four committee members, but are in search of a Chair. Jim Paget has graciously volunteered to continue conducting the Dinner Survey. These people will be looking to fill these Committees with club members, when asked consider saying Yes, I liked to help. Remember our activities and events only happen because of the behind the scenes volunteers. This will be my fourth tour of duty as the President of this illustrious group, so if you hear a recycled joke it s because I forgot I already told it. At the January meeting I will be outlining some of my goals as President for this coming year. Heads up, my number one goal is to have fun and go fishing, I hope you all will help me achieve this goal.

Call for Grants: By: Dennis Wilson Call for Submissions to Grants Committee Club members are invited to submit requests for grants for 2019 to grants@fidalgoflyfishers.com. Each request should include the name of the organization receiving the grant, contact information, and a brief explanation as to how the recipient will use the grant to further the aims and purposes of the Fidalgo Fly Fishers Club as outlined in the by-laws. A suggested grant amount can be included but the final grant amounts for the year will be decided by the Grants Committee in concert with the Board, and will be presented to the membership for approval. Submissions must be received no later than the Monday before the February Board meeting, February 4, The Committee Chairperson (TBD) will present the members requests as well as other grant recommendations to the

3 Board at the February Board meeting, and then the Board will present the results of their deliberations to the membership at the February general meeting for approval and for inclusion in the annual budget. President Tim Cooley and V.P. and Membership Committee Chairman Bill Keeler performed the short ceremony. Don McKeehen and Bill Keeler are Pete s sponsors. On his application Pete wrote: I enjoy fly fishing and the folks who do. I want to be a part of a great club. When John Ballenger, Membership Committee member read the application he commented, Pete looks like a potential active member. I would recommend going ahead with the membership. Pete s fly fishing has been off and on for eighteen years. It all started with a friend in the Olympics on a seven-day hike. Pete s Bio Includes: His growing up years were at seven different Fish Hatcheries (including Marblemount) where his father worked for Washington State Department of Fisheries. Joined the Army and Oregon National Guard while employed at Pacific Northwest Bell and U.S. West. Retired after 28 years at the phone companies. Then went back to work for Puget Sound Energy and retired for good after 12 years. He now lives in Burlington with his wife, Jeannie, of 46 years. They have three children and 4 grandchildren. Besides his hobbies of fly fishing and fly tying he enjoys classic cars and owns a 1967 GTO convertible. If there is a Pass Lake Cleanup Next Spring, the leader should be sure and call Pete, he wants to be a part of that group.
