Leading 6-1 heading into the eighth, Dunedin had to hold off a late rally by the Hammerheads. Jupiter stranded five base runners in the final two innings. Aaron Sanchez, making a rehab start, went two and two-thirds innings and allowed one run. Jeremy Gabryszwski earned his team-leading sixth win with five innings in relief. Alberto Tirado recorded the final four outs to pick up his third save. All nine Dunedin starters had hits. Tonight s Game The D-Jays host the Jupiter Hammerheads, the Class-A Advanced Affiliate of the Miami Marlins, in the third of a four-game series. This is Jupiter s only visit to Dunedin this season. In late May, the Hammerheads won three out of four over the D-Jays in Jupiter. Each game was decided by one run. Bottom Production The bottom three hitters in Dunedin s order last night (Lopes, Loveless, and Medina) combined to reach base seven times and drove in four of the six runs. Alford Doing it All Anthony Alford went hitless in his first game with Dunedin. Since then, he is on a 14-game hitting streak and is 23-for-63 (.365) with 10 extra base hits (1-HR, 6-2B, 3-3B) six RBIs, and four stolen bases. Prior to his promotion, he was a Mid-Season All-Star with Lansing (.293 AVG,.418 OBP in 50 games) and had a 33-game on base streak to begin the season. Nay s Nice Half After hitting.218 in the first half (65 games), Mitch Nay is 23-for- 55 (.418 AVG) so far in the second half in 15 games. He has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 contests. On Dunedin s recent road trip, he was 9-for-18. In this series, he is 3-for-5 and has reached base in six of his eight plate appearances. Historic Marathon The 21-inning contest between the D-Jays and Lakeland that began last Sunday and ended Monday was the longest game (by innings) in the minor leagues this season. Dunedin took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Matt Dean s RBI ground out and did not score for the next 20 innings. Lakeland s first run came in the sixth. Dunedin pitchers walked two and struck out 20 in the game. The D-Jays were 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13, while Lakeland was 1-for-12 and left 14 on base. There were no errors in the contest. The game lasted five hours and eight minutes, with a delay of one hour and 19 minutes. It was suspended in the 17th inning due to rain. Bombs Away For Rowdy Rowdy Tellez hit long solo home runs in three consecutive games from June and drove in at least one run in his first five games with Dunedin. On July 3, he hit a pair of two-run blasts. In 16 contests with the D-Jays since his promotion from Lansing, he is 20-for-66 (.303 AVG) with five home runs, 16 RBIs and nine runs scored. He had seven home runs and 19 doubles in 68 games with Lansing this year and was named a Mid-Season All-Star. Lopes Lighting it Up Christian Lopes has hits in 23 of 33 games since returning to the D-Jays from New Hampshire. He is 38-for-120 (.317 AVG) over that span with nine doubles, a home run, and 18 RBIs. The D-Jays are in those contests. Loving the Long Ball The D-Jays are 20-5 this season when they hit a home run and just when they do not hit a long ball. Their 33 home runs are tied for fifth in the Florida State League. Coming Through in the Clutch In Dunedin s 38 wins this season, they are hitting.328 with runners in scoring position (123-for-375) and have left 240 runners on base (6.3 per game).
