Oklahoma opens the year at UCLA on Feb. 22 and the home opener is slated for Feb. 26. Also included in this section is a breakdown of the Sooners by position and a projected depth chart and the services provided by the OU Athletics Media Relations office. OKLAHOMA STAFF A closer look at the people who run the Sooner baseball program, including the coachesand support staff. Sunny Golloway is entering his third full season as the head coach after taking over at the end of the 2005 season. He is joined by third-year assistant coach Tim Tadlock and first-year assistant coach Mike Bell. RETURNER PROFILES Each of the 14 returning players from the 2007 squad are highlighted with complete bios, including freshman All- American Aaron Baker. Six seniors will look to lead OU back into the postseason after narrowly missing the program s 31st appearance in the NCAA Tournament in Complete bios on each of the 18 newcomers. The 2008 roster is filled with plenty of fresh faces, including transfers Jake McCarter (Alabama) and J.T. Wise (Louisiana State). In addition, several other newcomers are expected to compete for starting jobs on opening day, two of whom are freshmen THE OPPONENTS The Sooners will face 10 opponents that participated in last year s NCAA Tournament, including five 2007 Super Regional teams (UCLA, Rice, Wichita State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State). In addition, 29 home games at L. Dale Mitchell Park highlight the schedule REVIEW Oklahoma narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003 after finishing the season with a overall record. The Sooners finished seventh in the Big 12 regular season standings with an mark and went 2-1 in the 2007 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. Wise was drafted in the 45th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland Athletics Wise is the great nephew of former New York Yankee Bobby Richardson, a five-time Gold Glove winner and MVP of the 1960 World Series. 4 3 Jake McCarter has been drafted four times: 2003 by the Cincinnati Reds in the 40th round, 2004 by the New York Yankees in the 28th round, 2005 by the Washington Nationals in the 39th round, and in 2006 by the Boston Red Sox in the 45th round. McCarter has been a part of three championships in the past two years. Last summer with the Coppel Copperheads, McCarter was a member of the Texas Collegiate League Champions. While at Alabama, McCarter helped lead the Tide to 2006 SEC & Regional titles. 96

TYSON SENG.421 Garrett Buechele hit.421 during his high school career at Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas. 30 Tyson Seng stole 30 bases during his senior season at Enid High School en route to earning all-conference honors. 11 Buechele s father, Steve, played 11 seasons in the Major Leagues with Texas, Pittsburgh and the Chicago Cubs. 2 Seng is expected to contribute in 2008 on the mound and in the infield for OU. Seng was also a two-sport star in high school, earning four letters in both baseball and basketball. He tried out for the OU basketball team in the fall but chose baseball as his primary sport. 98

ELIOTT BLAIR 2007 Elliott Blair redshirted the 2007 season for Oklahoma and is expected to provide the Sooners with depth in the outfield in A defensive specialist in the outfield, Doug Buser posted a.991 fielding percentage over the summer with the Kitsap Bule Jackets of the West Coast League. 31 Blair drove in 31 runs as senior at Liberty Christian School and hit.424 en route to collecting first team all-district accolades. 10 Buser is one of 10 newcomers this year to bring collegiate experience to the 2008 roster from either the junior college or four-year college level. 99

MICHAEL ROCHA 93 Mark Guest led all pitchers in Texas Class 5A in 2007 with 93 strikeouts and was tied for the lead in wins with eight Michael Rocha won 12 games as a senior at Hays High School and recorded 107 strikeouts in 89 innings pitched. Rocha is one of four newcomers on OU s staff vying for a starting spot in the rotation. 2 Guest was a two-way star at Plano West, hitting.412 as a senior with a 2.03 ERA. 100
