9 LSU shall be responsible for having the capacity for determining when lightning strikes are within specified distances from the competition site. When lightning is detected within 10 miles of the competition site, LSU Event Management shall utilize the public address system to inform those in attendance that inclement weather including lightning is within 10 miles and that should patrons vacate the facility for safe shelter, they will be allowed to re-enter with a ticket stub. When lightning is detected within eight (8) miles of the competition site, the competition shall be suspended. Competition may be resumed after 30 minutes of no detected lightning strikes within a eight (8) mile radius. A 10 minute warmup period may be granted following this 30-minute suspension. Additionally, the crew chief will be notified when lightning is detected within 15 mile of the competition site. In cases of severe weather being detected prior to the start of competition: A maximum of 10 minutes could be used for the national anthem or introduction immediately following the 30 minute time period of no detected lightning strikes. LSU will have the option of whether or not the 10 minute time period is added. The umpire-in-chief has sole authority to suspend, postpone or cancel the game if conditions become unfit for play.

12 All green padding on any of the walls is live. If a ball wedges off the ground into the vertical seams of the green padding, it will be a dead ball. Ball is live that appears wedged at the bottom of the outfield fence padding between the padding and the ground (warning track). The top step of the dugouts, as well as the top step of the camera wells, is considered live. Any ball that hits off the netting or railing in front of the dugouts is live as long as it remains in live ball area. Balls that are caught and carried into the camera wells or the dugouts, will immediately become a dead ball. Runners will advance one base and there will be no throwing of the ball from inside the dugout. If the ball hits the facing of the roof of the dugout, or any of the yellow interior walls of the dugout, it is a dead ball. There will be a rectangular area painted on the warning track on both the first and third base side (on the outfield side of the camera wells) for still photographers. This area is used simply to quarantine the photographers. This will remain a live ball area. If the ball hits a photographer or the photographer s equipment, or if the ball remains in the rectangular area, the ball remains live. If the ball goes under the bullpen bench and remains under the bench, the ball is dead unless the defensive player goes in to retrieve it. A ball that goes under the bench and comes out remains live. If the ball goes into the tube that has the tarp rolled on it, or goes behind the tarp between the tarp and the wall, the ball is dead. unless the player goes in to retrieve it. Also, If the ball is not in clear vision of players and umpires, the ball is dead..unless the player goes to retrieve it. This includes a ball going under the mound tarps that are folded up next to the bullpen mounds. ANYTIME A PLAYER GOES TO RETRIEVE A BALL, THE BALL REMAINS LIVE! The yellow home run line on the outfield fence merely indicates the top of the fence. The ball must completely clear the yellow line and wall to be a home run or ground rule double. The silver colored chain link fencing behind the left field wall and in front of the left field bleachers is out of play. A ball that hits the chain linked fencing would be a home run or a ground rule double. The batter s eye in centerfield is out of play. A ball that hits the batter s eye would be a home run or a ground rule double. The flag poles in centerfield are out of play. A ball that hits the flagpoles would be a home run or a ground rule double. A player cannot use the tarp, or any other object that is in the field of play, to elevate himself. The backstop netting is live with no breaks.

14 Dear Visiting Baseball Athletic Trainer: On behalf of the Louisiana State University Athletic Training staff, I would like to welcome you for your upcoming visit to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I hope you find the following letter informative regarding what to expect from our staff during your stay. The baseball series will take place at the New Alex Box Stadium located on Gourrier Drive, just off Nicholson Drive. The visitor s dugout is located on the third base side. The following items will be provided in your dugout for each game: 1-10 gallon cooler of ice water cups 1-10 gallon cooler of Powerade Small hydrocollator unit with pads Ice chest with injury ice and bags Biohazard materials control kit The visitor s bullpen will have ice water and cups. There will be emergency equipment (sports chair, emergency splints, AED, crutches, etc.) located in the baseball athletic training room. EMS will be on site for all games. Two student athletic trainers will be on site for all games. We will have an orthopedic and family practice physician in attendance at all games. They will be available should you need their consultation during your stay. The baseball athletic training room is located through the first base dugout and will be open 4 hours prior to game time. We will provide full access to all of our athletic training room modalities to certified athletic trainers. The use of modalities by student athletic trainers and non-certified athletic trainers will only be permitted when accompanied by a letter of request from the certified athletic trainer or team physician of your institution. If you will not be sending an athletic trainer, please notify us as soon as possible so we can make the necessary arrangements to provide an athletic trainer for your team. The baseball athletic training room has ice, moist heat packs, a Hivamat, two combination electrotherapy and ultrasound modality units, and two whirlpools. If you need anything other than what we have listed, please contact us so we can have your request ready upon your arrival.
