5 ATHLETIC TRAINERS USC will provide training room facilities in an on-site medical tent. Water, sports drinks, and fueling snacks will be available for all participants. Injury ice, medical tape, and common training room suppplies will also be provided. USC trainers will be on-site, but if your team is not traveling a certified athletic trainer or if your team has special treatment needs other than what is provided, please have your athletic trainer contact Katie Johnson (kathleen.johnson@usc.edu or ) EVENT INFORMATION If you are facing a medical emergency while on USC s campus, contact the Department of Public Safety at (213) for assistance. They will coordinate and expedite the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. CREDENTIALS Each institution must submit an official institutional credential request (see Travel Party List) to Todd Davis (todd. davis@usc.edu) by Monday, April 25, Each institution will be given 12 credentials for their participating student-atheletes plus any reasonable institutional staff including coaches, trainers, managers, SIDs, and administrators in the travel party. Media Credentials should be directed to Jeremy Wu (jjw@usc.edu). Institutional credentials will be distributed at the logistics meeting on April 27. If an extenuating circumstance dictates that an institution must receive credentials earlier, please contact Todd Davis (todd.davis@usc.edu) to coordinate. LOGISTICS MEETING A logistics meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 5:00 pm in the Galen Center across the street from Merle Norman Stadium. At least one member of each institution s coaching staff must be present. At this meeting, the schedule will be reviewed as well as any other logistical topics that may arise ahead of the Championship. PRACTICE SESSIONS All teams will have the ability to practice at Merle Norman Stadium on Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28. One-hour blocks on Wednesday (1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm) will be assigned to two insitutions. During that one-hour timeslot, one institution will practice on Court 2 and the other institution will practice on Court 3. Similiarly, teams will have the option to practice for an hour Thursday morning (8am, 9am, 10am, and 11am). PARTICIPANT MEMENTO GIFTING SUITE A gifting suite will be set up at Merle Norman Stadium in a 10 x10 tent, Wednesday, April 27 during the practice sessions from 1 p.m. 5 p.m. Please be sure to make time for your teams to stop by the suite to choose their participating gifts. All orders will be taken on site and will be shipped directly to the head coach, two weeks following the championships. 5

6 EQUIPMENT The NCAA Official Championship Game Volleyball will be used during the Championships. The ball will be made available during practice sessions and will be solely used during competition. LOCKER ROOMS Teams will be allocated a team area at Merle Norman Stadium. This team area will either be a section of the spectator bleachers or a 10 x10 tent. Showers at the Galen Center (across the street from Merle Norman Stadium) will be made available on getaway days (Saturday and Sunday) for teams that need showers after checking out of their hotel. Otherwise, it is expected that teams shower at their hotels following competition early in the Championships. STADIUM DESCRIPTION Completed in 2013, Merle Norman Stadium is the home of the USC Beach Volleyball program. Located on the east side of USC s University Park Campus, the site includes three side-by-side courts oriented east-west. Covered bleacher seating runs the length of the facility s west side and allows spectators to view competition on any of the three courts. The site is equipped with permanent restrooms at the northwest corner of the facility near the main entrance. The courts meet NCAA and USA Volleyball dimension standards and the sand depth is 18 inches. TEAM AREAS Space is limited at Merle Norman Stadium. As such, each team will be provided an adequate, yet modest area to occupy during competition. There are eight team areas spread throughout the facility. Selection of team areas will occur at the logistics meeting on Wednesday, April 27, The No. 1 seeded team will have first preference of team area, the No. 2 seeded team will have second preference, and so forth. HOSPITALITY A hospitality tent will be made available to participating coaches, staff, administrators, and tournament officials. Thisa rea will havce light refreshments and will require a credential to enter. TELEVISION COVERAGE Pac-12 Networks will broadcast the Championships. Friday (Pairs Semifinals and Championship) and Sunday (Team wnners bracket Semifinals, Contenders bracket Quarterfinals and Semifinals, and the Championship match) are scheduled for live broadcast, but the crew will be on-site for the duration of the Championships. 7 AWARDS & AWARDS CEREMONY The Pairs Champion and runner-up will be recognized immediately following the Pairs Championship match on Friday, April 29. All-Conference season award recipients will be recognized in a pre-match ceremony before their team s respective opening round dual on Friday, April 29. The Team Champions will be recognized in a post-match ceremony immediately following the Team Championship dual. Individual tournament award recipients will be recognized in this post-match ceremony on Sunday, May 1. SCORE KEEPING R1 will be responsible for submitting signed score sheets at the conclusion of each match. PARKING & TRANSPORTATION Directions from LAX to Merle Norman Stadium 1. Exit LAX via southbound Sepulveda Blvd toward I Slight right onto the I-105 E ramp 3. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for I-105 E/Norwalk and merge onto I-105 E 4. Take the I-110 N/I-110 S exit toward Los Angeles/San Pedro 5. Keep left at the fork, follow signs for I-110 N/Los Angeles and merge onto I-110 N 6. Take the Exposition Blvd exit toward 37th St 7. Merge onto S Hope St (signs for Exposition Boulevard) 8. Turn left onto W Exposition Blvd 9. Turn right at USC onto S Figueroa St. Destination will be on the left at McCarthy Way Directions from downtown Los Angeles to Merle Norman Stadium 1. Head southbound of Figueroa St 2. Destination will be on the right at McCarthy Way Merle Norman Stadium is located adjacent to Parking Structure X (PSX) on USC s campus. PSX is accessed via Gate 3 located at the intersection of Figueroa St and McCarthy Way. The parking structure is open to the public and vehicles are subject to a daily rate of $12. Visitors should prepay for a daily permit at the kiosk located at Gate 3. 7

8 TRAVEL TO CHAMPIONSHIPS SITE - AIRPORTS & CAR RENTAL Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Located 14.2 miles southwest of Merle Norman Stadium, LAX is teh largest ariport in the greater Los Angeles area and is served by all major airlines and car rental companies. Car Rental at LAX Hertz Budget Enterprise Bob Hope Airport (BUR) Locally known as burbank, BUR is 17.8 miles north of USC s campus. Southwest, United, Delta Connection, American Eagle, Alaska, and JetBlue operate from this facility. Long Beach Airport (LGB) LGB is 22 miles south of USC s campus. JetBlue is the primary operator from Long Beach, but American Eagle and Delta Connection also serve this airport. 10 LIGHTNING POLICY Thunderstorms can produce dangerous conditions for athletes and spectators during outdoor events. Safety is the foremost priority when weather conditions surrounding the athletic site become threatening. The Championship Director and officials will adhere to the following procedures if area thunderstorms have the potential to threaten the safety of the event and its participants: PRIOR TO COMPETITION 1. The Championship Director and Athletic Training staff will inform all coaches and meet personnel in attendance at the Logistics Meeting about the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in the area. Competition delays and procedures will be discussed at this time. 2. The Championship Director will continually monitor weather conditions using the MxVision WeatherSentry system, which will alarm if lightning strikes are recorded within 50 miles of the competition site. DURING COMPETITION 1. Once it is determined that dangerous weather conditions are nearing the competition site, the Championship Director will notify officials and team coaches of a possible delay and site evacuation. 2. Once lightning is detected within eight (8) miles of the course, air horns will be utilized to signal the stop of competition. Meet officials will ask coaches, athletes, spectators, and working staff to immediately seek safe shelter in the Galen Center. RESUMING COMPETITION 1. Competition will resume thirty (30) minutes after the last lightning strike has been recorded within eight (8) miles of the course. 2. Championship personnel will sound the air horn once again to notify teams and fans that the competition site is safe for return. Per the NCAA D1 Beach Volleyball Regulations (S3.R1.5.2) Decision to Suspend Play Ø Should bad weather or unfit conditions exist during a match, the referee shall be the final judge as to the suspension, resumption, or termination of play. Ø If play is suspended due to weather conditions, it is suggested that play resume as soon as conditions allow. Ø If a postponed match can be scheduled within a 48 hour period, the match shall resume at the point of suspension. Otherwise, the match is not replayed or continued at a later date unless both coaches agree to do so or unless conference rules dictate otherwise. On the following page are a few lightning safety definitions outlined in the NCAA Sports Medicine Handbook, Guideline 1E, Lightning Safety 10

11 2015 PAC-12 BEACH VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS SAFE SHELTER Any fully enclosed building normally occupied or frequently used by people, with plumbing and/or electrical wiring that acts to electrically ground the structure. Avoid using the shower, plumbing facilities, and electrical appliances, and stay away from open windows and doorways during a thunderstorm. In the absence of a sturdy, frequently inhabited building, any vehicle with a hard metal roof (neither a convertible nor a golf cart) with the windows shut provides a measure of safety. The hard metal frame and roof, not the rubber tires, are what protects occupants by dissipating lightning current around the vehicle and not through the occupants. It is important not to touch the metal framework of the vehicle. Some athletics events rent school buses as safer locations to place around open courses or fields. DANGEROUS LOCATIONS Outside locations increase the risk of being struck by lightning when thunderstorms are in the area. Typically, anything referred to as a shelter is not safe from lightning. Dugouts, refreshment stands, open press boxes, rain shelters, golf shelters and picnic shelters, even if they are properly grounded for structural safety, are unsafe and may actually increase the risk of lightning injury. Other dangerous locations include high ground, bodies of water (pools, ponds, lakes) and areas connected to, or near, light poles, towers and fences that can carry a nearby strike to people. 11
