4 2009 Cal/Nevada Track & Field Championships 4 UCLA s Drake Stadium Drake Stadium is the competition site for CAL Nevada Championships. Drake Stadium provides seating for 11,700 spectators. The surface is tartan provided by Martin Surfacing and has nine lanes. Field events are conducted at Drake Stadium and include shot put, discus and hammer rings at both the north and south ends of the infield. A javelin runway is located on the south end. In addition, the high jump area is located on the south end of the track stadium on its own tartan surface. There are two practice pole vault pits and one infield runway that can accommodate the pit on either the north or south end to take advantage of the wind. The north end of the facility will have practice pits for the shot, hammer and discus. Drake Stadium has four long/triple jump pits, featuring 38-foot-long sand-filled pits. Note: This meet is only open to eligible school in California and Nevada region. Entries All team entries will be done online at Don Chadez at dchadez@aol.com to receive your password. You may enter and update your entries up until the posted entry deadline. Admission Prices for Spectators Adult - $7 Non-UCLA Student w/ ID (college or HS) and Youth ages $5 Warm up area The warm-up area will be on the Intramural fields located adjacent to Drake Stadium. This area will be the site for all warm-ups prior to competition. The Clerk area, and all non-emergency meet medical and team medical operations will be located in the northeast corner of the Intramurals field. Parking at UCLA s Drake Stadium Parking passes for lot #7 will be provided for each coach when they pick up their team packets. Team vehicles must display their parking passes while entering and they must park in the designated area. Directions to Lot #7 From 405 Freeway: Exit Sunset Blvd. east. Proceed east on Sunset for approximately two miles. Turn right on Westwood Plaza. Turn right onto Charles E. Young Dr. North. Make a left at the stop sign and enter into lot #7. From 10 Freeway: Exit 405 Freeway going north. Exit Sunset Blvd. east. Proceed east on Sunset for approximately two miles. Turn right on Westwood Plaza. Turn right onto Charles E. Young Dr. North. Make a left at the stop sign and enter into lot #7.

Cars and vans may park for $9 per vehicle in Lot 6 or Lot 4. Parking attendants are available at the entrance to each lot approximately one hour prior to most UCLA Athletic events. Early arrivals should visit the parking kiosks to obtain parking passes (Westwood Blvd. kiosk for Lot 6 and North Westwood Plaza kiosk for Lot 4). Team Seating Participants can sit anywhere in the grand stands of Drake Stadium or the Intramural fields. Team tents or umbrellas will only be permitted in the top rows of Drake Stadium. The championship awards will be presented on the field at the conclusion of the meet.

8 2009 Cal/Nevada Track & Field Championships 8 Special Coaches Area Four special areas will be available to working coaches with credentials for: Pole Vault Located on the infield of Drake Stadium, near the take off board. High Jump Located on the south end of Drake Stadium, near the high jump pit. Discus and Hammer, and Javelin Located on the infield of the north end of Drake Stadium, near the throwing ring. Javelin Located in infield at the south end of Drake Stadium. Implement Weight In Inspections We strongly encourage all participating teams to bring their weight implements on Friday, March 27 th to complete the weigh in process. The weigh in area will open at 2pm. Protest The protest area is located at the main finish line, in the southwest corner of Drake Stadium. Results Results will be posted near the media area, located on the concourse level of Drake Stadium. Real time results will be made available throughout the meet at and also at uclabruins.com. Scoring Scoring for all events of the Cal-Nevada Track and Field Championships shall be as follows: 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (for nine places). Athlete Flow Procedure: Running Events Warm Up Area: Participants will have access to warm up on the Intramural fields located adjacent to Drake Stadium. Pre-calls for events will be given on this field. Staging Area: Clerk Check-in and athlete entrance for Running Events Athletes need to check-in with clerk immediately upon arrival. Final call will be made 15 minutes prior to the start of the event. At this time, athletes in running events will be

9 2009 Cal/Nevada Track & Field Championships 9 escorted to the track for introductions. They will remain in their sweats and will be able to place their belongings into baskets, which will be provided for them. Athlete Flow Procedure: Field Events General Warm-up Area: ALL field event competitors will check in with the head official of their event at their respective event location. Each field event area will be available for warm ups: Throwing and horizontal jumping events- 70 minutes prior to the start of event High jump- 90 minutes prior to the start of event Pole vault- 2 hours prior to the start of event Media Information Media and meet information will be located on the upper concourse of Drake Stadium in the area designated for media. A tent designated for media interviews will be located in the southwest corner of Drake Stadium and will be used to interview athletes immediately following their events. Media Information and Guidelines Stephanie Sampson, Sports Information contact for UCLA Track and Field will serve as the Coordinator for Media Operations. Should you have any questions regarding media credentials and guidelines, please call, Credentials/Pick-up Please fax credential requests on company letterhead to Stephanie Sampson, Sports Information Contact for Track and Field. Please include your address. The fax number is Media members will be notified of the status of their credential request. Please indicate on the request letter if you need a parking pass, parking passes are limited. Media credentials and parking passes can be picked up in the UCLA Sports Information Office (Suite 128/J. D. Morgan Center) on Friday before the meet - or at will call on Saturday and Sunday (ticket office at the top SW corner of Drake Stadium). Athletic Training Area/Emergency Information The athletic training tent is located in the northeast corner of Drake Stadium. This area will be stocked with all necessary courtesy items including ice, hydrocollators, and ultrasound/electrical stimulation machines. The athletic training tent will open 1.5 hours prior to the start of competition, and remain open until the conclusion of competition each day. The medical staff of visiting institutions are welcome to utilize this area for treatments, but it is asked that they set-up any tables they may bring on the warm-up

10 2009 Cal/Nevada Track & Field Championships 10 area on the Intramural fields. In addition, this area is to be used for active treatments only and not as a place for athletes to loiter during the competition. The track will be closed to visiting medical staffs during competition and all on-track injuries will be handled by the UCLA Athletic Training staff. Visiting athletic trainers may be escorted to their athletes or meet them at the athletic training tent. UCLA s main athletic training facility (Acosta Center) will be available for use only by advance arrangement by contacting Laef Morris MA, ATC at There will be a physician and EMS on site during the championships and they will coordinate all emergency procedures that necessitate referral to the UCLA Emergency Department. Emergency Room Information The closest hospital is the Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center, 757 Westwood Plaza., Los Angeles, CA 90095, Directions from Drake/Pauley Pavilion: Exit the parking structure on Westwood Blvd. The hospital and emergency room entrance are on the right hand side of the street.
