2 NO. 9 NC STATE BASEBALL SET TO OPEN NCAA REGIONAL PLAY The ninth-ranked NC State baseball team will open play in the NCAA Championships this weekend on its home field, Doak Field at Dail Park, as the Wolfpack is hosting for the sixth time in program history. NC State is the top seed in the Raleigh Regional and will face fourth seed Army on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Second-seeded Auburn and third seed Northeastern will battle in the first game of the regional Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The winners will meet at 7 p.m. on Saturday and the losers will square off at 2 p.m. NC State will be making its 30th postseason appearance and fourth consecutive. The Wolfpack has earned an NCAA bid in 14 of the last 16 seasons and eight of the last nine. The Pack heads into the weekend with a overall record, while Auburn is 39-21, Northeastern is and Army is Friday s game will be the first meeting between NC State and Army. The Wolfpack and the Auburn have met twice, and the series is tied at one apiece. NCSU has won all four meetings against Northeastern. NC STATE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT NC State is all-time in NCAA Tournament games, highlighted by a mark under current head coach Elliott Avent. 3 INSIDE THE REGIONAL - The Army Black Knights led the Patriot League is nearly every category and boast the conference s Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year - Senior catcher Jon Rosoff garnered player of the year honors after compiling a.350 batting average with 69 hits to lead the Black Knights in both categories. - Anthony Giachin secured the conference s rookie of the year honor thanks to a.297 clip at the plate with 60 hits. - Army second-year head coach Jim Foster served as the pitching coach at Boston College prior to taking over the Black Knights. MCLAIN LEADING THE WAY For the sixth consecutive week, NC State s Josh McLain continues to lead the ACC in hits. The Hiddenite, N.C., native has tallied 86 on the year, which is seven more than any other player in the conference. His 81 hits rank 23rd in the NCAA. KINNEMAN DRIVING EM IN Junior Brett Kinneman has tallied 60 runs batted in (RBI) this season, which is the most for an NC State player since Ryan Matthews in He has 15 multi-rbi games, highlighted by three games with five or more RBIs. Kinneman is tied for second in the ACC in that category and ranks among the top 40 nationally. BAILEY, BROWN HEADLINE SEVEN ALL-ACC SELECTIONS NC State baseball s Brian Brown has been named Pitcher of the Year and Patrick Bailey was tabbed Freshman of the Year to headline seven All-ACC Selections for the Wolfpack, announced Monday, May 21, by the conference office. Brown, Brett Kinneman, Josh McLain and Will Wilson all claimed a spot on the first team, while Bailey and Brock Deatherage secured the honor on the second team. Joe O Donnell was named to the third team and Bailey, along with Reid Johnston were selected to the All-Freshman Team. NC State s seven players named to the All-ACC first, second and third teams are tied for the league-high along with Louisville. The Wolfpack also tied a conferencehigh with four players named to the 16-member All-ACC First Team. The Pack s seven All-ACC selections are tied for the program record, matching the total of the 1992 squad. Brown is the first NC State pitcher to claim ACC Pitcher of the Year since Carlos Rodon claimed the honor in 2012 and Bailey is the first Wolfpack player to garner ACC Freshman of the Year since Rodon in Now in his 22nd year as head coach at NCSU, Elliott Avent has had at least one player tabbed to the all-conference team in each of his seasons leading the program. O DONNELL SEMIFINALIST FOR NATIONAL PITCHER OF THE YEAR AWARD NC State baseball s Joe O Donnell has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2018 Pitcher of the Year Award, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation on May 18. O Donnell is the only pitcher on the list from the ACC and one of just five relief pitchers. SEASON HIGH IN STRIKEOUTS FOR THE PACK PITCHING STAFF NC State pitchers struck out a season-high 17 batters against Wake Forest to clinch the series on May 12, while only issuing four walks in the contest. 4 WILSON MAKES HISTORY WITH THIRD ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK SELECTION After turning in an outstanding week, Will Wilson was named ACC Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, May 14. He becomes the first player in program history to claim ACC Player of the Week three times in a single season since the inception of the accolade in The last NC State player to claim more than three ACC weekly honors was Mike Rogers in 2004, when he claimed Pitcher of the Week five times that season. The Kings Mountain, N.C., native was also tabbed National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and College Sports Madness along with National Hitter of the Week by the NCBWA. MULTIPLES OF FOUR NC State s most successful innings this season have been the fourth and the eighth innings. The Wolfpack owns a team batting average of.321 during the fourth with 67 runs scored and has logged a.309 clip with 61 runs in the eighth inning of games. MAGIC NUMBERS The Wolfpack is 29-3 on the year when scoring at least six runs in a game and is 33-6 when holding its opponents to five runs or fewer. BIG INNINGS This year NC State has scored runs in bunches, as the Pack has tallied 26 big innings with four or more runs in the frame. STELLAR PACK BULLPEN NC State s bullpen has been stellar this season, as the group has compiled a 2.89 ERA. In contrast, opposing teams bullpens have recorded an 8.15 ERA against the Wolfpack s batting lineup. The Pack s bullpen is responsible for 24 of the squads 40 wins and has nailed down 20 saves, second most in the ACC. PACK POWER NC State s 81 home runs this season ranks fourth in the NCAA and is 17 more than the Pack hit in all of last season (64). The Wolfpack s total is the most for the program since 2010 when the team hit 98 homers. Ten different players have hit at least one home run for NCSU this season and five players have recorded multi-home run games. NC State has five players with 10 or more homers, the only team in the ACC to accomplish the feat. KINNEMAN GARNERS COSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS Not only does fourth-ranked NC State baseball s Brett Kinnemanexcel on the field, but also in the classroom as he has been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced MAY 10 by the organization. The award recognizes student-athletes not only for their performance in the classroom, but also on the field. To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 or better and see significant action on the field. The York, Pa., native was one of four student-athletes from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selected to the team, as Duke s Ethan DeCaster, Clemson s Logan Davidson and Notre Dame s Alex Kerschner also earned the honor. O DONNELL BREAKS CAREER APPEARANCE RECORD Redshirt senior Joe O Donnell set the NC State baseball record for career appearances with his 88th against Campbell on Wednesday, May 2nd. He now owns the second-most among active ACC pitchers. 5 WHAT A MONTH FOR MCLAIN NC State senior Josh McLain turned in a stellar month of April, as he led the team with a.391 batting average complemented by 25 hits in 14 games. Hailing from Hiddenite, N.C., McLain hit two home runs in April and recorded a.516 slugging percentage along with a.435 onbase percentage. His strong month allowed him to take over the ACC lead in hits with 69 on the year to rank 11th in the nation. WILSON GARNERS SECOND ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR Following a strong offensive week at the plate, NC State baseball s Will Wilson has been named ACC Player of the Week, as announced on Monday, April 16 by the conference office. The sophomore collects the honor for the second time this season, as he earned the award on March 19 following the Wolfpack s sweep at Clemson. NC State has secured the ACC Player of the Week four times to lead all teams in the league, as Brett Kinneman has claimed the award twice. AROUND THE STATE Starting with NC State s non-conference matchup against UNC- Chapel Hill, NC State s schedule featured eight consecutive games versus teams from the state of North Carolina. The Wolfpack is 13-5 against teams from the state of North Carolina this season. HISTORIC SERIES-WIN STREAK ENDS AT 13 The Wolfpack saw its historic series win streak come to a close against UNC-Chapel Hill last weekend, as the squad s streak was snapped at 13, including 10 consecutive ACC series wins. NC State had won each of its weekend matchups dating back to the Virginia Tech series from last season before having it end against the Tar Heels. JOHNSTON SHINES IN FIRST ACC START Freshman Reid Johnston started on the mound for the Wolfpack last Friday to make the first ACC start of his collegiate career and threw a gem to earn his sixth win of the season. Wilson helped lead NC State to a 3-1 record last week, compiling a.316 batting average with eight RBI, six runs and three home runs. The sophomore shortstop recorded his second career multi-homer game in the series finale against Notre Dame to clinch the series, as the Wolfpack extended its ACC series-win streak to nine dating back to BROWN, KINNEMAN NAMED TO GOLDEN SPIKES MIDSEASON WATCH LIST After helping lead the second-ranked NC State baseball team to its highest-ever ranking, NC State baseball s Brian Brown and Brett Kinneman have been named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, announced on Tuesday, April 10, by the organization. The Wolfpack is one of just six teams in the nation to have more than one player earn a spot on the list and the only program from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Brown and Kinneman are the fourth and fifth players in program history to be named to the distinguished list, joining Carlos Rodon, Trea Turner and Brett Austin. The Enfield, N.C., native went a career-long 6.2 innings and limited the third-ranked Duke Blue Devils to just four hits and struck out three batters. He will start on Friday for the second consecutive week for NC State. WILSON NAMED TO BROOKS WALLACE AWARD WATCH LIST NC State baseball s Will Wilson has been named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, which is given annually to the nation s top shortstop, as announced by the College Baseball Foundation. A total of 53 of the most talented shortstops in the nation were named to the 2018 watch list. Wilson is the first NC State player on the watch list since 2014 when former Wolfpack standout Trea Turner garnered a spot on the list and eventually won the award that season. The Kings Mountain, N.C., native owns a.307 batting average to go along with 10 home runs, tied for the second most on the team and fifth most in the conference. Wilson has collected 34 runs batted in (RBI) to rank among the ACC s top 10. SHUTTING IT DOWN NC State is 32-1 this season when leading after the seventh inning and the record increases to 39-0 when leading after the eighth inning. The Wolfpack s 20 saves is second in the ACC. GoPack.com #Pack9 WOLFPACK MATCHES HIGHEST-EVER RANKING AT NO. 2 IN THE POLLS After earning a pair of wins at 11th-ranked Louisville last weekend to remain unbeaten in ACC series, NC State baseball leaps to No. 2 in this week s polls, which matches the highest-ever ranking for the program. The Wolfpack checks in as the nation s second-ranked team in the Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game Polls. NC State was also ranked No. 2 during the 2003 and 1993 seasons, but the Pack has never been tabbed the nation s top team. MIDSEASON ALL-AMERICANS After turning in a pair of stellar starts to the 2018 season, NC State s Brian Brown and Brett Kinneman have been named Midseason All-American s by D1 Baseball and Perfect Game. The Wolfpack is one of just six teams in the nation to have two players make the Perfect Game list and the only program from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). In the D1 Baseball listing, only NC State and Florida have two players on the list. BROWN AMONG NATION S BEST IN ERA Prior to his start at Louisville, Brian Brown led all NCAA Division I pitchers with a 0.41 earned run average (ERA). He nows owns 5

6 a 2.37 ERA to rank fourth in the ACC. The Glenmoore, Pa., native is 6-2 on the year and NC State has won 12 of the 15 games in which he has started. SNAPPED AT 40 FOR WILSON Sophomore Will Wilson reached base safely in 40 consecutive games dating back to the first game of the Delaware series last season before having it end in the first game of the series at Virginia Tech. THE MORE, THE MERRIER NC State is 30-2 on the year when recording more hits than its opponent. leap 66 spots in the NCAA RPI from No. 75 to No. 9. The Tigers were the top-ranked team in the RPI prior to the series. KINNEMAN NAMED NCBWA FEBRUARY PLAYER OF THE MONTH After turning in one of the nation s best starts to the 2018 season, NC State baseball s Brett Kinneman was named the National Player of the Month for February by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Kinneman turned in a.487 batting average during the month of February, highlighted by 19 hits which led the NCAA in that category following the opening month of play. He belted seven home runs to finish the month as the NCAA leader. WILSON GARNERS ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK After helping NC State baseball to a perfect 5-0 week, including the program s first-ever sweep at Clemson, Will Wilson was named ACC Player of the Week on March 19. The sophomore shortstop turned in a stellar week at the plate, as he compiled a.545 batting average with 12 hits, seven runs, five runs batted in (RBI), three doubles and two home runs. He finished the weekend series against the Tigers with a.500 batting average, the highest for an individual on either team and tallied a series-high six hits. The York, Pa., native hit for the home run cycle in the second week of the season as he hit a grand slam against N.C. A&T, a two-run and three-run homer in the first game of the series against Furman and a solo homer on Saturday and Sunday against Furman. KINNEMAN REPEATS AS ACC, NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK For the second consecutive week, NC State baseball s Brett Kinneman has been named ACC Player of the Week, in addition to collecting National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (CBN). BIENLIEN DAZZLES IN FIRST WEEKEND START In his first weekend start of the season at Clemson on March 16, sophomore Michael Bienlien delivered a strong performance with five shutout innings to earn the win. He limited the Tigers potent offense, which entered the weekend second in the ACC with 26 home runs, to just five hits and all five were singles. Bienlien retired the side in order in the third and fourth inning. His performance set the tone for the remainder of the game, as four Wolfpack pitchers combined to deal Clemson its first shutout loss of the season and first during the regular season since March 17, WILSON TIMES TWO In the series finale at Clemson, Wilson tallied his first career multi-home run game. He hit a solo blast in the first inning to give NC State a 1-0 lead and smashed a go-ahead homer in the eighth to put the Wolfpack ahead 5-4, which proved to be the difference. He is the third NC State player to record a multi-homer game, joining Evan Edwards and Brett Kinneman who have each accomplished the feat three times and twice, respectively. FIRST-EVER SWEEP AT CLEMSON NC State earned its first-ever sweep at Clemson this season, as the Wolfpack recorded a 4-0 win in game one, 6-1 win in game two and rallied for a 5-4 win in the series finale. It was also NCSU s first sweep against the Tigers since 1997 when the Wolfpack accomplished the feat at home. LEAP IN NCAA RPI The Wolfpack s weekend sweep at Clemson helped the squad The junior outfielder has been on fire at the plate, as he was 9-for-19 during the week to compile a.474 batting average. His nine hits led NC State to a team batting average of.365 over the four-game stretch. Kinneman hit three home runs during the week to remain the NCAA leader in that statistic with eight for the season. OFFENSIVE OUTBURST The Wolfpack s bats erupted for 23 hits, 21 runs and five home runs in the victory against Campbell on March 3. He hit two homers against Bowling Green on March 2 and followed that contest with a pair of homers versus Campbell on March 3. 7 KINNEMAN TURNS IN UNBELIEVABLE WEEK After turning in one of the best weeks in the history of the NC State baseball program, Brett Kinneman has garnered the attention of several national media outlets as well as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). He was named the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball, College Sports Madness, National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Perfect Game. Additionally, Kinneman was tabbed the ACC Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 26. The junior outfielder hit five home runs during the week to take over the ACC lead and tie for second nationally. Kinneman hit for the home run cycle, as he hit a grand slam against N.C. A&T on Tuesday, a two-run and three-run homer on Friday and a solo homer on Saturday and Sunday against Furman. It was the Wolfpack s 29th NCAA appearance and 16th under head coach Elliott Avent. WILSON TABBED PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN BY COLLE- GIATE BASEBALL After collecting Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America honors last season, NC State baseball s Will Wilson has been tabbed a 2018 Preseason All-American by the organization. Wilson was one of just two Wolfpack players to start all 61 games in 2017 and one of just three freshmen in the ACC to start all of their team s games. He started 57 games at second base, two at shortstop and a pair at designated hitter. Wilson finished the year with a.300 batting average to go along with 72 hits, tying with classmate Brad Debo for the second most on the team. For the week, Kinneman was 13-of-21 to compile a.619 batting average at the plate complemented by 15 RBIs and five home runs. FOUR IN A ROW FOR KINNEMAN In conjunction with Brett Kinneman s HUGE week at the plate, he homered in four consecutive games. The NC State baseball record for consecutive games with a home run is six, set by Chance Shepard during the 2014 season. Kinneman hit a pair of homers in game one of the series against Furman and one in games two and three of the series. He left the yard twice against Air Force. FOUR SAVES IN FIRST FOUR WINS In each of NC State s first four wins, the Wolfpack s bullpen shut it down late to earn a save. Preseason National Collegiate Baseball Writer s Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Watch List Selection Joe O Donnell collected three saves during the stretch, while freshman Reid Johnston nailed down a save in his first collegiate appearance. KINNEMAN GOES GRAND Junior Brett Kinneman hit his first home run of 2018 against North Carolina A&T and chose the perfect time for it, as he homered with the bases loaded for the Wolfpack s first grand slam of the season. It was the first grand slam for NC State since Will Wilson hit an inside-the-park grand slam against Clemson on May 19, Kinneman also hit a two-rbi triple in the game to record six RBIs in the contest, tied for the second most by a player in the ACC for a single game. RECAPPING 2017 NC State is coming off a strong 2017 campaign in which the squad advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in the past eight seasons. The Wolfpack finished the season with a overall record, falling in the Lexington (Ky.) NCAA Regional Final to host Kentucky. O DONNELL NAMED TO STOPPER OF THE YEAR PRESEASON WATCH LIST Following a stellar 2017 campaign, NC State baseball s Joe O Donnell has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Preseason Watch List. The award is given annually to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball. O Donnell made 25 appearances on the mound last season, all in relief, to compile a perfect 4-0 record. His team-high seven saves tied for the sixth most by any pitcher in the ACC last season. The Wilmington, N.C., native struck out 59 batters in just 48.1 innings pitched to average more than a strikeout per inning. O Donnell only allowed eight extra-base hits and held opposing batters to a.211 batting average. SEASON OUTLOOK Six position starters are back for the season from NC State s 2017 starting lineup, including All-ACC Selections Brad Debo and Will Wilson. In total, 69 percent of the Wolfpack s offense (hits) returns to the lineup for On the mound, weekend starters Brian Brown, Johnny Piedmonte and Michael Bienlien are back for the season along with veteran relievers Joe O Donnell and Austin Staley. The Wolfpack will have to replace 2017 MLB Draft Selections Tommy DeJuneas, Cody Beckman and Tim Naughton along with Sean Adler, who led the team in innings pitched. 7
