3 JACKETS HAVE BEEN STUNG BY INJURIES THIS YEAR The Yellow Jackets have once again been stung by the injury plaque this season with a total of nine different players having missed significant time this year for head coach Danny Hall. * Tristin English - Tommy John Surgery in January (out for season) * Carter Hall - Wrist (out since April 4 and will miss the rest of the season) * Ben Parr - Shoulder (out since Feb. 28 and will miss the rest of the season) * Parker McCoy - Leg (out since Mar. 12) * Brandt Stallings - Arm (out since April 11) * Jay Shadday - Arm (out since April 21 and will miss the rest of the season) * Andy Archer - Shoulder (out since April 2) * Jonathan King - Mono (missed three weeks in March and April) * Patrick Wiseman - Arm (has not pitched all season and will miss the rest of the year) ROLLER COASTER OF A RIDE THIS SEASON The Jackets have had a roller coaster ride of a season thus far this year. The Jackets took the first game 3-0, recording their third shutout of the season, but then dropped the second game of the twin bill 1-0 on a walk-off wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. The Tech pitching staff allowed just one run and 10 hits over 17.2 innings of work on the mound in the doubleheader. Starters Xzavion Curry (8.0 IP, 5 hits, 0 ER, BB, 6 K) and Keyton Gibson (7.0 IP, 4 hits, 0 ER, BB, 2 K) combined to throw 15.0 scoreless innings for the Jackets in the two games in the Windy City. However, the Jackets offense mustered only three runs on 13 hits over the two games, with two of those runs coming on solo home runs by Trevor Craport and Ryan Peurifoy in the 3-0 win in game one. The last time that the Yellow Jackets were involved in back-to-back shutouts was last season when at the ACC Championships when Tech blanked Boston College 6-0 in the first round and then lost to Miami 4-0 in the first game of pool play the following day. YOU CAN COUNT ON US Over the last eight games, the Jackets have had four middle relief pitchers in Micah Carpenter, Jared Datoc, Jake Lee and Bailey Combs that have been great out of the bullpen. Combined the quartet has made 13 out of the 16 appearances out of the bullpen for the Jackets over the last two-plus weeks. The four combined are 2-1 with two saves and a 1.53 ERA over 23.2 innings pitched. They have allowed just 17 hits and walked five, while striking out 23 batters. Micah Carpenter = 4 appearances, 0-1, 1.35 ERA, 6.2 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K Jared Datoc = 5 appearances, 1-0, 2 saves, 8.1 IP, 8 hits, 2 ER, 3 BB, 9 K Jake Lee = 2 appearances, 1-0, 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K (*does not include a start) Bailey Combs = 2 appearances, 3.2 IP, 3 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K YOUTH VS. EXPERIENCE In ACC play this season, the Jackets have been out numbered in terms of years of experience by their opponents when it comes to starting pitching. In 19 of Tech s 21 ACC games this season, the Jackets have started an underclassmen on the mound in freshman Xzavion Curry (6 starts), freshman Jay Shadday (5 starts), redshirt-freshman Jonathan Hughes (3 starts), sophomore Jake Lee (2 starts) and sophomore Keyton Gibson (1 start). Redshirt-junior Ben Schniederjans is the lone upperclassman to make a start (2 starts) for the Jackets this season in ACC play. On the flip side, the Jackets conference opponents thus far in Miami, North Carolina, Wake Forest, Clemson, Notre Dame, Louisville and Virginia Tech have combined to start 19 upperclassmen against Tech in the 21 conference games. THE NATIONAL TOP-25 GAUNTLET Tech has had a very challenging slate in March and early April, as the Yellow Jackets played a total of five nationally top-12 ranked opponents in a month span with games against No. 12 Oklahoma, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 16 Auburn/No. 7 Auburn, No. 5 Clemson and No. 2 Louisville (rankings at the time of the games). In fact, 12 of the Jackets 20 games from March 14 to April 15 came against top-12 or higher nationally ranked opponents - No. 12 Oklahoma, three versus then No. 9 North Carolina, one at home against No. 16 Auburn, three versus No. 5 Clemson, a road contest at No. 7 Auburn and then three at home versus No. 2 Louisville on April RECORD BREAKDOWN ACC Overall Overall Home Road Neutral - - Day Games Night Games (6 p.m. or later) Yellow Jackets Score First Yellow Jackets Score in 1st inning Opponent Scores First Walk-off Victories As a Ranked Team (All Polls) - - vs. Ranked Team (All Polls) Following Loss TV/ESPN3/ACC Network Extra Game vs. LHP (starter) vs. RHP (starter) Yellow Jacket Starter 6+ IP Yellow Jacket Starter 7+ IP Yellow Jacket Starter 8+ IP Hitting A Home Run Not Hitting A Home Run Out Hit Opponent Get Out Hit By Opponent Equal Number of Hits February March April May - - June - - Monday - - Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday One-Run Games Two-Run Games Three-Run Games Four+ Run Games Leading After Trailing After Tied After Leading After Trailing After Tied After Leading After Trailing After Tied After Shutouts Extra Innings Score 0-5 Runs Score 6+ Runs Allow 0-5 Runs Allow 6+ Runs VERSUS RANKED FOES IN 2017 Commit 0 Errors Georgia Tech is 4-8 thus far this season against its opponents that were nationally ranked at the time in Oklahoma, North Carolina, Auburn, Commit 1 Error Clemson and Louisville. 4 GRAND WAY TO END A DROUGHT Tech ended a nine game home run drought on Wednesday, April 19, in a grand way, as sophomore catcher Joey Bart blasted a grand slam in the top of the seventh at Georgia State to put the Jackets in front ACC STANDINGS ACC Games All Games ATLANTIC W L T PCT. Hall is the winningest baseball coach in Georgia Tech baseball s history with 982 wins overall as the Tech skipper. The Tech skipper has never had a losing season since he arrived on The Flats back in A TECH RARITY For the first time in almost two years the Jackets were held without a home run in a three-game weekend series in the ACC cross-divisional three-game series at Notre Dame. The last time Tech did not hit a single home run in a three-game series was at Boston College on April 17-19, Prior to that, the Jackets did not hit a home run in the three-game series on the road at then No. 7 Louisville from Mar , Tech was also held without a home run in the conference series versus No. 2 Louisville on April 13-15, making it the second three-game series that the Jackets failed to hit a home run in this season. Probably not a coincidence, but the Jackets were swept in all four of the series in which they did not hit a home run at all. This season, Tech is just 4-10 in games in which a Jacket did not record a home run. LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH BIG INNINGS This season the Jackets have had a love/hate relationship with big innings. Tech s record is 13-3 overall when it has at least one big inning (four runs or more) in the game. On the flip side, the Jackets are just 2-11 overall on the year when giving up a big inning (four runs or more) in the game. IRON JACKETS IN THE STARTING LINEUP Head coach Danny Hall has five different players that have started in all 42 games for the Jackets this season in Wade Bailey, Joey Bart, Trevor Craport, Kel Johnson and Ryan Peurifoy. A total of nine different Jackets have started 26 games or more this year with seven of those players currently on a 30-plus game streak of consecutive starts (Craport - 70, Bailey - 58, Johnson - 57, Peurifoy - 45, Bart - 42, Austin Wilhite - 36, Coleman Poje - 31). Three Jackets in Peurifoy (166), Bailey (154) and Johnson (142) have all started in over 140 games for their GT careers. CRA-ZY AT THE PLATE Junior Trevor Craport made a very successful transition from the mound to the plate last season in 2016, as he was second on the team with a.352 batting average on the year. The third baseman has totaled 18 multiple hit games this season and has hit in the first through fifth spots in the lineup. Craport also reached base safely in the first 18 games of the season, a new career-high on-base streak, and recorded a career-long 11- game hitting streak earlier this season. In ACC play, Craport is hitting.315 (29-of-92) with two home runs, nine doubles, nine RBIs and 14 runs scored. Over the last eight games, the junior third baseman has hit.382 (13-for-34) with two home runs, six doubles, eight RBIs and seven runs scored. He has posted a.735 slugging percentage and a.436 on-base percentage over that span. WHAT S IN A QUALITY START? A starting pitcher records a quality start when he pitches at least six innings and allows three earned runs or fewer. Georgia Tech is 5-1 this season when its starter makes a quality start (Xzavion Curry vs. Belmont (3/3), Jay Shadday vs. Clemson (4/1), Ben Schniederjans at Georgia State (4/19), Curry at Virginia Tech (4/21), Curry at UIC (4/28) and Keyton Gibson at UIC (4/28)). The Jackets had won 21 consecutive quality starts with the last loss coming back on May 14, 2015, until the Jackets dropped a 1-0 walkoff decision to UIC in game two of a doubleheader on April 28, Tech has won 22 consecutive home quality starts, including two this season, with the last loss on Mar. 20, GT put together back-to-back road quality starts (Schniederjans on April 19 at Georgia State and Curry on April 21 at Virginia Tech) and again in the doubleheader at UIC on April 28 (Curry in game one and Gibson in game two). Prior to that, the last quality start for the Jackets on the road came back on April 8, After having just three quality starts out of their starters over the first 35 games of the season, the Jackets have recorded four quality starts over its last seven games heading into play this weekend versus Pitt. A. WILHITE LEADING THE WAY Austin Wilhite may be a freshman, but he is no easy out at the plate. The first-year Jacket leads Tech in hitting at.359 (52-of-145) overall on the season. The starting shortstop also leads the team in ACC play with an average of.320 (24-for-75) in conference contests. Wilhite is also first on the team in on-base percentage (.433), fourth in runs scored (28), fourth in doubles (11) and fourth in hits (52) on the year. Wilhite enters play this week with 15 multiple hit games and five multiple RBI games on the year. DOUBLE DIGIT STREAKS THIS SEASON Trevor Craport reached base safely in each of Tech s first 18 games this season, a new career-long record. Fellow junior Wade Bailey had a career-long streak of 15 games reaching base safely earlier this season, while Joey Bart also reached base safely in 10 straight games earlier this year. The trio have also recorded double digit hitting streaks this season, as Bailey had a 15-game hitting streak at one point, while Craport hit safely in 11 straight games and Bart in 10 consecutive contests. In addition to the trio mentioned above, Kel Johnson has reached base safely in each of the Jackets last 22 games. Bailey is in the midst of a 14-game on base streak and a 14-game hitting streak, while Austin Wilhite had a career-high 11-game on base streak earlier this month. Senior Ryan Peurifoy has added his name to the list, as the outfielder has hit safely in 10 straight games, a new career-high entering play this weekend versus Pitt and Georgia. ZAC-K RYAN In his relief outing on March 11 at Miami, in which he pitched a season-high 4.0 innings out of the bullpen to earn the win in the extra inning contest, Zac Ryan recorded his 100th career strikeout. Ryan now has 121 strikeouts on the mound for the Jackets for his

5 TECH S JOEY BATS Joey Bart was named the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and the ACC Player of the Week on March 6. Bart was then named the Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week on March 7. The Buford, Ga. native was also named to the 2017 Johnny Bench Award Watch List on March 9. Most recently, Bart was named to the Midseason Perfect Game/Rawlings College Baseball All-American First Team and recognized as a D1Baseball Midseason All-American. The sophomore was also added to the 2017 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, a list of the top 40 college players in the nation. On the season, Bart is hitting.296 (53-for-179) with 13 home runs, 13 doubles, 41 RBIs and 34 runs scored. HIT + RUN = WADE BAILEY Junior second-baseman Wade Bailey leads the team in hits with 59 and in runs scored with 49 on the season. Bailey ranks second in the ACC and 17th nationally with 49 runs on the season. He also ranks second in the ACC and 13th in the nation in runs per game with an average of 1.17 per contest. The Tech lead-off hitter also leads the team and the ACC in doubles with 17 on the season. OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS Georgia Tech set another program record in 2016, partly due to the plague of injuries to their pitching staff throughout the season, as the Yellow Jackets bullpen made a total of 197 relief appearances on the season. The previous record was 187 calls to the bullpen back in The Jackets have already gone to the bullpen 142 times this season over their 42 games, an average of 3.4 relief appearances per contest. JOHNSON BOMBS Kel Johnson picked a good time to hit lucky number seven on the season, as his two-run walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the 12th gave the Jackets the 4-2 extra inning win over No. 9 North Carolina on Mar. 18, The junior set a new career-high with three home runs in Tech s 10-3 win at Georgia Southern on Feb. 21 in Statesboro. Johnson became the first Jacket to hit three home runs in a single game since Chase Burnette blasted three dingers versus Presbyterian back in Johnson s three home runs in a game makes it the 11th time in program history that a player has hit three home runs in the same game. The junior first baseman and designated hitter is Tech s active leading home run hitter with 30 for his career. EXTRA INNING LOVE Tech is a perfect 3-0 in extra-inning contests this season. Each of the Jackets first three ACC wins this season came in extra innings. IT S BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE WALKED OFF WITH A HR Junior Kel Johnson hit a two-run walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the 12th to propel the Jackets to a 4-2 win over the No. 9 North Carolina Tar Heels. The extra-inning walk-off home run was the first since Daniel Palka s 13th-inning walk-off home run versus Clemson in a 6-5 win on April 27, The walk-off home run was the first at Russ Chandler Stadium since Mott Hyde s walk-off homer in a 5-4 win versus North Carolina on May 10, The walk-off home run was the first walk-off home run for the Jackets since Arden Pabst s three-run walk-off shot in the 9-8 win over Albany on Feb. 22, 2015 at Coastal Carolina. NO ENGLISH IN 2017 The injury bug has already bitten the Yellow Jackets in 2017, as sophomore and 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American and All- ACC first team selection Tristin English is out for the year after having Tommy John surgery in January. English will be missed, as last year as a freshman he played in 60 games and hit.315 with 70 hits, 21 doubles, five home runs, 44 RBIs and 34 runs scored.
