HYDDEN GEM >> Sophomore SS Mott Hyde is riding a late-season surge and enjoyed a memorable game in Tech s 4-3 win at Georgia at Turner Field. >> Hyde matched his career high of three hits, and scored three of the four runs versus UGA. He doubled and scored in the third, launched a two-out, two-run blast in the seventh that gave Tech a 3-2 lead, and then in the ninth he singled with two outs, stole second, and scored the winning run. >> Over Tech s last 16 games, the Calhoun, Ga. native is hitting.357 (20-for-56), with team high in runs (15) and steals (8), along with four doubles, three homers and 11 RBI. He homered twice in the seriesopener versus Clemson. JAKE RAKES IN ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR >> Senior 1B Jake Davies is bringing his final season on the Flats to a close in style, as he his leading the ACC with 54 RBI and is two weeks removed from his first career ACC Player of the Week honor. >> Davies recorded his first career multi-homer game as he launched a pair of two-run blasts versus Clemson last Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium. >> His eight home runs this season are a career high and five of them have come within the last three weeks -- two at North Carolina, two versus Clemson and one against Charlotte. >> Davies had a career-long 14-game hitting streak snapped vs. Georgia on April it was the second-longest by a Jacket this season, trailing Sam Dove s 17-game streak. In the streak, Davies was.460 (23-for-50) with 21 RBI, three doubles, two homes, nine runs, six walks and just three strikeouts. >> Davies ACC honor was the second by a Jacket this season (Buck Farmer named ACC Pitcher of the Week, April 2) and is the third ACC Player of the Week award for Tech since FARMER NAMED ACC PITCHER OF THE WEEK; EARNS NATIONAL HONOR >> Junior RHP Buck Farmer owns a 1.59 ERA over his last six starts (3-1) and was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week and the College Sports Madness National Pitcher of the Week on April 2 after a masterful complete-game, three-hit shutout of Duke -- a 1-0 Tech win. >> Farmer struck out 11 Blue Devils and posted the only complete-game shutout thrown in the ACC this season. For Farmer, it was his first career shutout and his third career complete game. >> The righty is third in the ACC with 90 strikeouts, and tied for third in wins (7). >> Farmer was roughed up in 4.1 innings at Boston College (14 hits, 11 earned runs), but if you remove that game from his season numbers, Farmer is pitching to a 2.09 ERA overall and 1.93 ERA to the ACC. POSTSEASON RESUME >> Georgia Tech entered the week with an RPI of 28 (Warren Nolan) and a strength of schedule rated 18th nationally. The Jackets have won four series over teams ranked 60 or better in the RPI -- UNC (6), Va Tech (32), Georgia (37), and Ohio State (60) and have 19 wins over teams with an RPI of 100 or better. >> Eleven of the 12 ACC teams currently occupy the top 20 in schedule strength. THE LATE SHOW >> In winning the series at No. 6 North Carolina, Tech knocked around the UNC staff for 36 hits and 21 runs in the three-game set. The 21 runs were the most allowed by the Heels in an ACC series this season, surpassing the 16 scored by Miami during the Hurricanes sweep in Coral Gables. >> Much of the damage came late, as the Jackets scored 13 of their 21 runs after the sixth inning. >> Tech followed the same script April 24 versus Georgia at Turner Field, as Mott Hyde s two-run blast in the seventh gave Tech a 3-2 lead and Kyle Wren s double in the ninth broke a 3-3 tie. >> This season, Tech is out-scoring the opposition in the seventh inning or later, including a decisive advantage in seventh-inning scoring. >> Counting last Sunday s walk-off win over Charlotte in the 11th inning and the April 27th walk-off homer by Daniel Palka in the 13th inning vs. Clemson, Tech has scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning or later six times this season, including four times in the last seven victories. >> Tech is 2-1 in extra-inning games this year, and 5-1 over the last two seasons. TABLE SETTERS >> Georgia Tech may possess two of the fastest lead-off men in the ACC in Kyle Wren and Brandon Thomas. The pair are gap-robbers in the outfield, and have speed to burn at the top of Tech s order. >> Thomas leads the team in hitting at.366 and has reached base in 47 consecutive games dating back to the final two games of although Thomas has missed the last three games with a hamstring injury suffered last Friday night versus Charlotte. >> Thomas has had a flare for the dramatic this season, as two of his four game-winning RBI have come late in ball games -- an RBI double versus Duke in the eighth with two outs, scoring Thomas Smith, in a 1-0 victory, in which Buck Farmer pitched a complete-game, three-hitter; and an eighth-inning RBI

He is one shy of Nomar Garciaparra s career total of 14. Another former pro, Jay Payton holds the record with 22. FOR THE DOVE OF THE GAME >> Junior captain Sam Dove has started every game at three different positions in 2012 (second, third and left), is hitting.349 (10th in the ACC) and is tied for fourth in the ACC with 68 hits. He and Daniel Palka are the only Jackets to start every game this season. >> He had a 17-game hitting streak snapped versus Duke on March 31, which ranked as Tech s longest hitting streak since the 2009 season. Over the streak, Dove was 30-for-71 (.422), with eight doubles, 12 RBI, two HRs, and nine multi-hit games. His fifth-inning RBI double versus Georgia Southern on March 28 broke a 3-3 tie and stood as his first winning RBI in >> A walk-on as a freshman, Dove started 48 games as a sophomore, hit.310 and was an Academic All-ACC pick. IT S ALL IN THE HITS... IT S ALL IN THE HITS >> The Ramblin Wreck has been one of the league s most potent offenses this season, currently hitting.300 as a team, which is tied for second in the ACC and 37th in the NCAA. Tech leads the ACC in hits (520, 18th nationally) -- only league team with 500+ hits -- is fourth in runs (327, 23rd nationally), third in slugging (.437), tied for second in home runs (36, 31st nationally) and fourth in steals (69, 50th nationally). >> This season, the Jackets are 25-2 when out-hitting the opposition. >> High-octane offenses are nothing new under head coach Danny Hall, whose teams have led or finished second in the ACC in batting or run production in 10 of his 18 years as Tech s head coach >> Tech is 16-7 when hitting a home run this season. Tech hit eight bombs, including Daniel Palka s walk-off solo shot in the 13th inning Friday night, in the three-game series versus Clemson. DOVE, THOMAS NAMED CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT >> Junior LF Brandon Thomas and junior 3B Sam Dove have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, marking the ninth-straight year a Georgia Tech baseball player has received mention. >> Both student-athletes, who each earned their first career Academic All-District honors, are now eligible for Academic All-America consideration. >> Tech was one of just 15 Division-I school nationwide this season with multiple representation on an Academic All-District Team. >> Thomas (management major), who holds a 3.66 cumulative GPA, and Dove (polymer, textile & fiber engineering major), who holds a 3.42 GPA, were each Academic All-ACC picks last season. EVANS, DAVIES NAMED TO JOHN OLERUD AWARD WATCH LIST >> Sophomore C/RHP Zane Evans and senior 1B/LHP Jake Davies have been named to the official watch list for the 2012 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, which is presented annually by the College Baseball Hall of Fame to top two-way player in college baseball. >> The pair are the lone representatives from ACC schools, and only Tech and the University of Florida had multiple representatives on the 20-player watch list. EVANS NAMED TO JOHNNY BENCH AWARD WATCH LIST >> Evans is also on the official watch list for the 2012 Johnny Bench Award, which is presented annually by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission to top catcher in college baseball. Evans is one of five sophomores on the list. >> Former Tech catcher Matt Wieters was a finalist for the award in ANOTHER WIETERS? >> Evans, a year removed from a freshman All-America season in which he caught nearly every game for Tech, is proving his worth all over the diamond in >> He s started 22 games behind the plate this season, and in his career, Tech is when he starts at catcher (16-6 this season). Evans has made 14 appearances (one start) on the mound with three saves and 27 strikeouts in 28.0 innings. His offensive numbers are solid with a.292 average, 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 35 RBI. >> Evans missed four games with a leg injury midseason. >> Evans college career seems to be following a similar path as current Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters, who in three seasons at Tech, was a career.359 hitter with 35 homers and collected a 3.83 ERA and 16 saves (tied for sixth on Tech s career list). >> Evans first home run of the season was a three-run shot at Georgia Southern (F22) that broke an 8-8 tie in the eighth inning and gave the Jackets the lead for good. He picked up his first career save the Sunday before in a 5-3 win at Winthrop. >> Evans hit.270 as a rookie with five homers and became Tech s first everyday freshman starting catcher since Jason Varitek in 1991.

28 Head Coach Danny Hall Having spent his entire coaching career involved with winning programs, Danny Hall s tenure at Georgia Tech has been his most successful, as he is the all-time winningest baseball coach in Yellow Jacket history with 779 victories at the school. He has led Tech to the NCAA Tournament on 16 occasions and guided the Yellow Jackets to the College World Series in 1994, 2002 and 2006, the only head coach in the program s storied history to reach the promised land of Omaha. Hall enters this 19th season on the Flats just 13 victories shy of becoming the 46th Division-I baseball coach all-time to reach 1,000 career wins. He s in the Top 15 among active Division-I coaches in winning percentage (.679), and is Top 20 among active D-I coaches in number of victories (987). Under Hall, Georgia Tech has averaged 43.3 wins per season, the 10th-highest figure in the nation over the last 18 years. In the last decade alone he directed the Yellow Jackets to two College World Series appearances, three Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament titles (2000, 2003, 2005) and four ACC regular season championships (2000, 2004, 2005, 2011) while averaging 43 wins per season. Since Hall s arrival at Georgia Tech in 1994, a staggering 97 Yellow Jackets have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft a total of 107 times, while 46 MLB Draftees have chosen to attend Georgia Tech to play for the Yellow Jacket skipper. Twelve of his student-athletes have been selected in either the first or supplemental rounds, while he has coached 49 players that have been taken in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft. Hall s no-nonsense, professional approach to baseball has given his players the fundamentals they need to be successful after leaving Georgia Tech, as is indicated in the number of his former players that have appeared on Major League rosters. Current major leaguers Brandon Boggs of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Marlon Byrd of the Chicago Cubs, Tyler Greene of the St. Louis Cardinals, Micah Owings of the Cincinnati Reds, Eric Patterson of the Detroit Tigers, Mark Teixeira of the New York Yankees, Jason Varitek of the Boston Red Sox, Matt Wieters of the Baltimore Orioles, Blake Wood of the Kansas City Royals and Mike Nickeas of the New York Mets all played for the Yellow Jacket skipper. Since his first head coaching job in 1988, Hall has coached no fewer than 24 players that have appeared on Major League rosters. The success of Hall s former players in professional baseball is molded by their accomplishments at Tech, as his Yellow Jacket teams have advanced to 16 NCAA Regionals in his 18 years at the school. Georgia Tech has posted 40 NCAA victories since his arrival in 1994, winning regionals in 1994, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and super regionals in 2002 and The Yellow Jackets have posted a.500 or better record in Atlantic Coast Conference play every year since his arrival, and have finished third or better in the league in 11 of his 18 seasons. Georgia Tech has been ranked as the top team in the country six times for a total of 22 weeks under Hall, and in five of the last 10 seasons. Hall became Georgia Tech s winningest coach in 2005, earning his 505th victory at the school March 27 at Miami. His Georgia Tech teams have posted a (.670) record in 18 years and he owns a (.679) record in his 24 seasons as a head coach. Hall has also led the Yellow Jackets to a (.644) record in ACC regular season games. Each of Hall s Tech teams has been powered by a potent offense, leading or finishing second in the ACC in batting or run production in 10 of his 18 years as the Yellow Jackets head coach. Tech established a school record with a.342 team batting average in 2000, and then eclipsed that mark with a.347 clip the following season. Hall has had 87 players earn all-conference honors in his 18 years, while his players have received 32 All-America nods since He has coached two National Players of the Year, two National Freshmen of the Year, one ACC Player of the Year, one ACC Pitcher of the Year and three ACC Rookies of the Year. The Yellow Jacket head coach had a school-record 10 players selected in the 2005 Major League Baseball draft and matched that total just two years later when 10 more were selected in the 2007 MLB Draft. Over the last five years under Hall, Tech has had 43 players selected in the draft. Hall s teams have been equally successful in the classroom, as 120+ student-athletes have been named to the ACC Honor Roll (with a 3.0 or higher grade point average) and eight have earned Academic All-America honors on 11 occasions.
