The Yellow Jackets are 23-1 in home openers and have won 12 straight openers at Russ Chandler Stadium. Tech is also 19-5 in season openers under Hall. 2 For the third straight season, Georgia Tech opens up its campaign with the Atlanta Challenge, which includes three teams coming to Atlanta to compete against Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Kennesaw State over the opening weekend of play. In fact, the Yellow Jackets are 7-2 overall in season opening tournaments at home since Georgia Tech is a combined 11-3 versus their first three opponents of 2018 in Minnesota, Bradley and Connecticut. Tech is 4-1 all-time versus Minnesota with the last meeting coming back in 1994 and 7-2 overall versus UConn having played them last in GT and Bradley have never met on the baseball diamond prior to this weekend. It is a very eerie coincidence that the Yellow Jackets are opening up the 2018 season, head coach Danny Hall s 25th season overall on The Flats, at home versus the very same team that Hall coached against in his very first game as the Yellow Jackets head coach back in Coach Hall s first-ever game as the head 4 coach of Georgia Tech came against the Minnesota Gophers in the season opener at home back on Feb. 11, It was a 3-1 Georgia Tech win. 5 The 2018 season opener at Russ Chandler Stadium will feature two hall of fame coaches in John Anderson of Minnesota and Danny Hall of Georgia Tech. Anderson enters the season ranked fifth among all active Division I baseball coaches with 1,244 career wins. Hall is ranked seventh overall among active coaches with 1,196 career victories. 6 Georgia Tech head coach Danny Halls has recorded a total of 988 wins as the skipper of the Yellow Jackets. Entering his 25th season at Tech, Hall is just 12 wins shy of recording his 1,000th win the White and Gold. 7 Georgia Tech is looking to bounce back after an anomaly of a season last year in which the Yellow Jackets finished the season under.500 at Last season was the first losing season for Tech since 1981 and the first-ever in head coach Danny Hall s 30 seasons as a head coach. 8 Tech was picked to finish fifth in the ACC Coastal Division in the 2018 ACC Coaches Preseason Poll. The Yellow Jackets received 46 votes and were picked ahead of both Virginia Tech (27) and Pitt (18). 9 The Yellow Jackets return 22 letterwinners from last season, including seven position starters and four starting pitchers. Tech also has a total of 13 newcomers on the roster this season. 10 GT is led by key returners in Joey Bart, Wade Bailey, Jared Datoc, Kel Johnson, Tristin English and Austin Wilhite. Bart is a consensus preseason all-american, while Bailey was a two-time preseason all-american. Datoc was named to the NCBWA 2018 Stopper of the Year preseason watch list, while Johnson, English and Austin are all returning all-conference and all-americans from 2016 and ACCNE = ACC Network Extra SECN+ = SEC Network

Last season, Georgia Tech went a combined 4-1 against teams that they had never faced before going 2-1 versus Belmont and 1-0 versus both BYU and Marshall. GEORGIA TECH VERSUS THE VALLEY Tech is 14-2 all-time versus current teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Yellow Jackets are 5-2 versus Evansville, 3-0 versus Illinois State, 3-0 versus Indiana State and 3-0 versus Missouri State on the diamond. SCOUTING BRADLEY Bradley, who finished overall and 6-14 in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2017, was picked to finish sixth out of the eight-team league in the MVC Baseball preseason poll. Senior Andrew Ivelia and junior Luke Mangieri were both recognized as preseason MVC all-conference picks, Ivelia as a utility player and Mangieri at first base. GEORGIA TECH VERSUS UCONN DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES THAN THE LAST Georgia Tech will take on the UConn Huskies in a little different circumstances this season than in their last meeting two years ago in The last two times these two teams met was back at the 2016 NCAA Gainesville Regional where UConn won the first meeting 7-6 before Tech went on to eliminate the Huskies in a rematch two days later with a 7-5 Yellow Jackets win. JACKETS LOVE PLAYING THE HUSKIES Tech loves seeing UConn on their schedules, as not only are the Yellow Jackets 7-2 all-time versus the Huskies, but they are also 5-1 versus UConn in Atlanta. In the seasons that Georgia Tech has played Connecticut , 1996, 2000 and the Yellow Jackets made the College World Series (1994), was the NCAA South II Regional runner-up (1996), the Atlanta Super Regional runner-up (2000) and the NCAA Gainesville Regional runner-up (2016). SCOUTING THE HUSKIES UConn, who went last season and finished third overall in the American Athletic Conference at in league play, returns 16 letterwinners from last season s team including four of its top-five hitters and five of its top-eight arms. The Huskies were picked to finish second behind only Houston in the American preseason poll and had pitcher Tim Cate, catcher Zac Susi and Anthony Prato all earn a spot on the preseason all-conference team. Left-handed pitcher Tim Cate was named to both the D1Baseball preseason all-america second team and the Perfect Game all-america third team. Not only did the two combine to receive six preseason all-america honors, but one of the two team captains led the Jackets last season in hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage. HEART OF THE LINEUP For the first time since early May of the 2016 season, head coach Danny Hall and the Yellow Jackets will have all three members of the heart of the lineup together in order in Joey Bart, Kel Johnson and Tristin English. English missed all of last season after hitting five home runs, 21 doubles and driving in 44 RBIs as a Louisville Slugger freshman all-american and all-acc first team honoree in Bart, who hit a team-high 13 home runs and drove in 43 RBIs, is back after missing the last 11 games of last year with a hand injury. Johnson, who missed the last six games of 2017 with an injury and had offseason surgery, leads Tech with 31 career home runs and 128 RBIs over his three years on The Flats. STRONG UP THE MIDDLE The experience and strength of the Georgia Tech defense is up the middle. Joey Bart returns behind the plate for the Yellow Jackets where he has made 68 starts over the last two seasons. In 2017, Bart paced the Jackets with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs. Three-year starter Wade Bailey will man second base for the fourth-straight year where he has started 166 games. Last season, he led Tech in hitting (.347), hits (82), runs (63), doubles (21), triples (3), total bases (127) and on-base percentage (.420). At shortstop, sophomore Austin Wilhite returns for his second season having started 54 contests there as a freshman last season. Wilhite hit.338 with 67 hits and 25 RBIs in his freshman campaign in EXPERIENCED YOUTH TO START WITH Last season, the Yellow Jackets sent a freshman or sophomore pitcher out to the mound to start 28 of 30 ACC games, highlighted by then-freshman Xzavion Curry s 10 ACC starts and 15 overall starts. Overall, Tech had an underclassmen (freshman or sophomore) start 44 of the Jackets 55 games last year. This season, the Jackets return six out of the eight pitchers that made at least one start last season and a total of 47 starts from a year ago, 85 percent of its starts from BATTLE-TESTED BULLPEN The Tech bullpen will look to a number of experienced arms in seniors Ben Schniederjans, Jared Datoc and Patrick Wiseman, as well as juniors Micah Carpenter, Robert Winborne, Keyton Gibson and Bailey Combs. The Jackets return a total of 11 arms that saw time out of the bullpen last season, headlined by Datoc s 32 appearances. Datoc, who was named to the NCBWA 2018 Stopper of the Year Award preseason watch list, went 6-1 with a 3.77 ERA last season out of the bullpen for the Jackets. FRESH FACES The Yellow Jackets have 13 newcomers on the roster this season, all of which are true freshmen. Headlined by pitchers Brant Hurter and Hugh Chapman, fellow hurlers Joseph Mannelly, Jake Brace, Will Shirah and Oscar Serratos could all see time on the mound for Tech this season. Fellow newcomers Luke Waddell, Michael Guldberg and Serratos will compete for playing time in the infield, while Colin Hall, Baron Radcliff and Cole Neuber, as well as Guldberg, are all in the mix for two of the three outfield positions. FAMILY AFFAIR GT head coach Danny Hall has two sons on the team this year in redshirt sophomore Carter Hall and true freshman Colin Hall. Tech sophomores Austin and Nick Wilhite are twin brothers. Austin is 18 minutes older than Nick. Sophomore Paxton Rigby s father, Brad Rigby, played on Coach Hall s first-ever Tech team back in Senior Patrick Wiseman s older brother Joe Wiseman pitched for the Yellow Jackets from GEORGIA ON THE MIND GT head coach Danny Hall and his staff have been none to recruit their home state of Georgia really well and the 2018 roster portrays that as 32 of the 35 active players this season are from the Peach State. All 11 upperclassmen are from the state of Georgia, while nine of the 11 sophomores and 12 of the 13 freshmen call Georgia home. The lone three players that are not from the state of Georgia are Chase Murray and Luke Waddell, who hail from the state of Ohio, and Paxton Rigby who came to The Flats from
