Danny Hall is in his 24th season as the head coach of the Yellow Jackets and his 30th overall as a collegiate head coach. Tech returns 22 letterwinners, including seven starters in the field and four pitchers that made at least five starts on the mound from last year s team that went overall and went to the NCAA Regionals. Tech will play not one, but two opponents for the first-time ever on opening weekend in The Yellow Jackets will play both BYU (Feb. 17) and Marshall (Feb. 18) on the diamond for the first time in the program s history. 5 Junior Kel Johnson received a number of 2017 preseason accolades including being named to the 2017 NCBWA Preseason All-American Second Team, and the 2017 Perfect Game Preseason ACC All-Conference Team. He was also recently named to the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List. 6 With freshman Xzavion Curry s start on opening day Friday afternoon versus BYU he will become just the second true freshman to start a season opener in Tech history (since when true freshmen were allowed to play). The other opening day true freshman to start for Tech was Kris Wilson back in The Yellow Jackets have two big holes to fill in the middle of their lineup with the loss of Matt Gonzalez to the MLB Draft and Tristin English to an injury. Gonzalez led the Jackets in hitting (.378), hits (93), home runs (11), RBIs (54) and slugging percentage (.577). English led Tech in doubles (21), sac flies (5) and hit.315 overall on the year. 8 Coach Hall and pitching coach Jason Howell will have a new closer in Last year s closer Matthew Gorst, who was drafted in the 2016 MLB Draft, was lights out for Tech out of the pen with 12 saves, two wins and a 0.55 ERA in 28 appearances. 9 Tech has a total of 12 freshmen, including redshirt-freshman Jonathan Hughes, on the 2017 opening day roster this weekend. 10 Georgia Tech has won 19 straight non-conference weekend games, including sweeping every non-conference series on the year (Atl. At the 2016 Atlanta Challenge, the Yellow Jackets went 3-0 with wins over Purdue (5-2), Western Michigan (13-0) and VCU (9-1). In fact, the Yellow Jackets are 4-2 overall in season opening tournaments at home since FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING Georgia Tech will play not one, but two opponents for the first-time ever on opening weekend in The Yellow Jackets will play both BYU (Feb. 17) and Marshall (Feb. 18) on the diamond for the first time in the program s history. NO GIMMES ON OPENING WEEKEND Opening weekend will be no cake walk for the Yellow Jackets, as all three teams are coming off solid 2016 seasons. BYU (37-17) finished in a tie for the West Coast Conference regular season title and just missed out on the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars return WCC Freshman of the Year Keaton Kringlen. Marshall (34-21) went 21-9 in conference play last year to finish one game out of firstplace in Conference USA. The Thundering Herd set a school record in wins with 34 on the season. Western Michigan (22-34) may have had a losing record, however, the Broncos got hot at the right time last year winning four of five games in the MAC Championship Tournament, including defeating heavily favored and top-seeded Kent State in the championship game to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament. TAMING THE BRONCOS With their 13-0 win over the Western Michigan last year at the 2016 Atlanta Challenge, the Yellow Jackets improved to 3-0 all-time versus the Broncos. In fact, Georgia Tech has outscored WMU over the three meetings between the two

3 HALL-SOME IN HOME OPENERS Since 1994, head coach Danny Hall s first season on The Flats, the Yellow Jackets are 22-1 in home openers and have won 11 straight openers at Russ Chandler Stadium. Tech is also 18-5 in season openers under Hall. CAN T K WADE Junior second baseman Wade Bailey has been one of the toughest hitters to strike out over the last two seasons. In 455 career at bats for the Yellow Jackets, Bailey has struck out just 41 times, a rate of at bats per strikeout. His at bats per strikeout ratio ranks eighth all-time in Georgia Tech history for hitters with a minimum of 300 career at bats. CRA-ZY AT THE PLATE Junior Trevor Craport made a very successful transition from the mound to the plate last season in 2016, as he was second on the team with a.352 batting average on the year. Craport also was fifth in the ACC and 82nd nationally with an average of.30 strikeouts per game, an average of 11.7 at bats between strikeouts. CONTROL KING Lefty Jonathan King is looking to bounce back from an injury that caused him to miss all but one start in King is known for his control, as he has walked only 60 batters in innings of work. The redshirt-senior s career walks per 9 innings rate of 2.93 ranks 19th all-time in Georgia Tech history for pitchers with a minimum of 100 innings pitched. WHO S ON FIRST? The Yellow Jackets will have a void to fill at first base with the offseason surgery to last year s starter Tristin English. English started 52 games at first base last season for the Jackets as a true freshman. The lone returner with game experience at first base is redshirt-senior Coleman Poje. Poje made one start last year at first base in an 11-5 win at Georgia State. EXPERIENCED WINNERS Senior hurlers Zac Ryan and Ben Parr have proven they can win during their time at Tech. Ryan, who went 9-1 in 2015, ranks 13th all-time in Tech s season pitching records with a.900 winning percentage on the mound that season. Ryan is also tied for 15th in the yearly records with his seven saves that same season. Parr took over the reigns from Ryan last season, as the lefty went 7-1 for a.875 winning percentage which ranks 19th all-time in the Jackets single-season history. NO ENGLISH IN 2017 The injury bug has already bitten the Yellow Jackets in 2017, as sophomore and 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American and All-ACC first team selection Tristin English is out for the year after having Tommy John surgery in January. English will be missed, as last year as a freshman he played in 60 games and hit.315 with 70 hits, 21 doubles, five home runs, 44 RBIs and 34 runs scored. STAY HOT STALLINGS Brandt Stallings finished his freshman season in 2016 with a hot bat. After April 1, the power-hitting righty hit.325 with 16 extra base hits including five home runs and 25 RBIs over his final 33 games of the year. GEORGIA BOYS Coach Hall and his staff are known to be great recruiters in the state of Georgia. This season, the 2017 roster has a total of 31 student-athletes that hail from the Peach State. That is 86 percent of the roster (31/36) that call the state of Georgia home RECORD BREAKDOWN Overall Overall Home Road Neutral 4-4 Day Games Night Games (6 p.m. or later) Yellow Jackets Score First 22-4 Yellow Jackets Score in 1st inning 17-5 Opponent Scores First Walk-off Victories 2-0 As a Ranked Team (All Polls) vs. Ranked Team (All Polls) 7-12 Following Loss TV/ESPN3 Game vs. LHP (starter) 17-7 vs. RHP (starter) Yellow Jacket Starter 6+ IP 16-2 Yellow Jacket Starter 7+ IP 8-1 Yellow Jacket Starter 8+ IP 2-0 Hitting A Home Run Not Hitting A Home Run Out Hit Opponent 29-6 Equal Number of Hits 4-1 Get Out Hit By Opponent 5-18 February 7-0 March 12-5 April 10-9 May 7-9 June 2-2 Monday 0-1 Tuesday 7-4 Wednesday 4-1 Thursday 2-1 Friday 7-7 Saturday 9-6 Sunday 9-5 One-Run Games 8-5 Two-Run Games 4-2 Three-Run Games - Four+ Run Games - Leading After Trailing After Tied After Leading After Trailing After Tied After Leading After Trailing After Tied After Shutouts 3-2 Extra Innings 2-3 Score 0-5 Runs Score 6+ Runs 28-9 Allow 0-5 Runs 34-2 Allow 6+ Runs 4-23 Commit 0 Errors 14-4 Commit 1 Error 17-9 Commit 2+ Errors 7-12 JERSEY COMBINATIONS Overall White with Jackets 0-0 White Pinstripes 0-0 Gold 0-0 Navy 0-0 Gray with GT logo

Justus made 169 starts of Tech s 182 games over the last three years, including starting and playing in all 63 games at shortstop for Coach Hall last season. He didn t earn the starting spot until week one of conference play in Junior middle infielder Wade Bailey, who is slated to be the starting second baseman for the Jackets for the third straight year, is the lone Yellow Jacket on the roster to have made a start at SS for Tech. He made one start at short in A number of new faces could see time at the shortstop position in 2017 for Coach Hall and the Jackets in freshmen Parker McCoy, Austin Wilhite and Xzavion Curry, as well as sophomore Carter Hall. JOHNSON & JOHNSON: JONATHAN & JONATHAN The 2017 season will see the return of Jonathan & Jonathan - that s Jonathan King and Jonathan Hughes - to the pitching staff for the Yellow Jackets, as the duo missed the majority of the 2016 season due to injuries. Jonathan King, a redshirt-senior this year, went 1-0 last year over 5.0 innings in his lone appearance of the season on opening weekend versus Western Michigan. King who also missed time in 2014 due to an injury, has a career record of for the Jackets and is the most experience starter for Tech with 30 career starts. Jonathan Hughes is back on the mound for the Jackets after missing most of last season due to an injury. The redshirt-freshman got off to a great start as a freshman last year going 3-1 overall, including winning each of his first three starts. He threw 25.2 innings in five starts which included 14 strikeouts and held the opponents to a.245 batting average in his five appearances. RYAN OUT OF THE PEN With the loss of their 2016 closer in Matthew Gorst to the MLB Draft, the Yellow Jackets and pitching coach Jason Howell could turn to senior Zac Ryan who has nine career saves heading into this season. Ryan s numbers out of the bullpen are drastically different than when he starts. Over his career at Tech, Ryan as a starter has posted a 7.75 ERA over 12 starts and 38.1 innings of work. Out of the bullpen, his ERA is 3.95 over 50 appearances and 82.0 innings of relief work. In 2016 out of the bullpen, he posted a better than 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio over 17.2 innings. OH WHAT A RELIEF IT IS Georgia Tech set another program record in 2016, partly due to the plague of injuries to their pitching staff throughout the season, as the Yellow Jackets bullpen made a total of 197 relief appearances on the season. The previous record was 187 calls to the bullpen back in IT TAKES TWO TO MAKE IT OUTTA SIGHT Last season, the Yellow Jackets set a new program record with 80 double plays. With the record setting 80 double plays, the Jackets ranked second in the NCAA in double plays turned and led the nation with an average of 1.27 DPs per

5 A LITTLE PRESEASON LOVE Georgia Tech received a little preseason love this year, as the Yellow Jackets entered the season ranked No. 21 in Baseball America s Preseason Top 25 college baseball rankings and No. 29 in the NCBWA Division I Preseason Poll. Junior Kel Johnson was named to both the 2017 NCBWA Division I Preseason All- America second-team and the Collegiate Baseball 2017 Preseason All-American thirdteam. He was also named to the Perfect Game Preseason ACC All-Conference Team. Fellow junior Trevor Craport earned a spot on the 2017 NCBWA Preseason All-America third-team as well. WATCH KEL IF YOU CAN Georgia Tech junior Kel Johnson was named as part of USA Baseball s 55-player preseason Golden Spikes Award watch list which is put in place to identify the top amateur baseball player in the country for the 2017 season. The 40th Golden Spikes Award will be presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation on June 29 in Los Angeles. GONE IS GONZALEZ, GOLD AND GORST Replacing the G men will be a challenge in 2017 for the Jackets, as Matt Gonzalez, Brandon Gold and Matthew Gorst were all keys to Tech s success in Gonzalez hit for the Triple Crown as he led the Jackets in hitting (.378) and was tied for the team lead in home runs (11) and in RBIs (54). He also led the Yellow Jackets in slugging percentage (.577), total bases (142) and hits (93) in 59 games on the season, in which he earned All-ACC first team honors. Gold recorded a team-high nine wins (9-3) in was a constant on the mound for the Jackets with 16 starts on a team decimated by injuries to the pitching staff. Named to the All-ACC second team, Gold led Tech in wins (9), games started (16), strikeouts (81), innings pitched (105.1) and ranked second in ERA (2.48). Out of the bullpen, Gorst recorded an incredible ERA of 0.55 on the year over 49.0 innings of work. The NCBWA All-American second team selection and All-ACC second team honoree totaled 12 saves on the year for the Jackets and recorded 55 strikeouts compared to just 13 walks and three earned runs. H-ALL IN THE FAMILY Coach Hall has kept it all in the family in regards to Georgia Tech baseball. Carter Hall is a sophomore middle infielder for the Yellow Jackets and in his second season playing for his father. Colin Hall, a senior at Wesleyan School, has signed to play for Tech in ANCIENT HISTORY The Yellow Jackets enter the 2017 season having recorded 35 straight winning seasons. The current streak started back in 1982 when Tech went overall. Therefore, if you do the math, the Jackets have not had a losing season at all under Hall during his 23 years on The Flats. CHALLENGING SCHEDULE IN 2017 The Yellow Jackets will have a very tough schedule ahead in 2017, as Georgia Tech is slated to play a total of five nationally ranked preseason top-25 programs in North Carolina, Louisville, Clemson, Virginia and Miami (D1Baseball.com).
