Last Game Parker Berberet went 3-for-4 and hit Oregon State s first home run of the season but the Beavers late comeback fell short in an 8-7 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday night at Whataburger Field. Down 8-6 entering the ninth, Oregon State scored a run to make it 8-7 when Andrew Susac singled up the middle, scoring Tyler Smith, who had walked to start the inning. But Islanders reliever Michael Boyle was able to get Luke Acosta on a strikeout with runners on second and third to end the game. Give Me Some Multis Five different Oregon State players finished with multiple hits on Saturday, nearly doubling the seven total the team came into Saturday s game with. OSU was led by Parker Berberet s three hits, his second multi-hit effort of the season. Runs Down Not surprisingly, with the new bat standards, the runs scored per game this season is dramatically down when compared to In 2010, OSU and its opponents combined for 69 runs over six games, or an average of This season, there have been a combined 42 runs scored, or seven per game. First Home Run OSU also hit its first home run of the season Saturday when Parker Berberet hit a round-tripper to start the seventh inning. It marked his third career home run. Bullpen Big James Nygren came on in the fourth Saturday and cooled off the Islanders hitting. He allowed five hits and a run over five innings and amazingly increased the Beavers bullpen ERA from 1.42 to The bullpen has combined to throw 24 innings, allowing 15 hits and four runs while striking out 24. OSU s starters have an ERA of Notes Of Importance Oregon State has never played any of the four teams it is set to square off against this weekend in Texas. The Beavers play four consecutive games this weekend for the second straight weekend (albeit over four days instead of the three days like the Fresno trip). OSU will not play a stretch like that throughout the rest of the regular season. The Beavers will be playing all four games in Texas at Double-A parks. All three games in Corpus Christi are at the home of the Hooks, the affiliate of the Houston Astros. Monday s game is at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, home to the Double-A affiliate of the Padres.
