3 #16 Florida State (54-10) NCAA s, Here We Come For the 14th time in the past 16 seasons, the Seminoles are headed to the postseason after clinching the Southern Atlantic Softball Alliance championship. It didn t take long for Florida State to learn they had clinched a spot in the 2001 NCAA Tournament after completing a sweep over then second place Virginia. The Seminoles just needed their final regular season opponent, Maryland, to drop one of its final six SASA games to clinch a ticket to regionals. After the Tar Heels downed the Terps 2-0 on the second to last weekend of the regular season, FSU was on its way to another NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles have earned a trip to the postseason every year since 1986 except in 1997 and Florida State was a runner-up in last season s West Regional and is looking to advance to the College World Series for the first time since FSU will host a regional in Tallahassee this year and has made five trips to the College World Series and has advanced anced out of a Louisiana or Talla- hassee regional every ery time (Tallahassee twice and Lafayette, LA three times) FSU Stat Leaders Batting avg Brandi Stuart (.366) Slugging pct Monique Marier (.522) Hits Brandi Stuart (68) Total bases Brandi Stuart (97) Runs scored Serita Brooks (53) RBI s Monique Marier (38) ERA Jen White-Stokes (0.65) Wins Leslie Malerich (22) Innings Leslie Malerich (179) Opposing BA _ Jessica van der Linden (.108) Strike outs Leslie Malerich (139) Fewest Walks _ Jessica van der Linden (22) 2001 fsu softball schedule Southern W 8-0 Malerich (1-0) 1-0 Southern W4-0 White-Stokes (1-0) 2-0 Tomahawk Bash 2/9 Florida A&M W 1-0 van der Linden (1-0) 3-0 2/10 Tennessee-Chatanooga W 4-1 Malerich (2-0) 4-0 2/10 Florida International L 1-2 White-Stokes (1-1) 4-1 2/11 Tennessee-Chattanooga W 3-2 (10) van der Linden (2-0) 5-1 2/11 Florida International W 3-2 Malerich (3-0) 6-1 Sunshine State Tournament 2/16 Kent State W 4-0 White-Stokes (2-1) 7-1 2/17 College of Charleston W 8-0 van der Linden (3-0) 8-1 2/17 Boston College W 1-0 Malerich (4-0) 9-1 2/18 College of Charleston W 9-1 White-Stokes (3-1) /18 Boston College W 5-4 Malerich (5-0) /20 Mercer W 4-0 van der Linden (4-0) /20 Mercer W 8-0 Malerich (6-0) 13-1 FAU Worth Invitational 2/23 vs Illinois L 1-0 White-Stokes (3-2) /23 at Florida Atlantic L 2-1 (10) Malerich (6-1) /24 vs Florida A&M W 11-0 Malerich (7-1) /24 vs Maryland W 5-3 van der Linden (5-0) /25 vs Illinois W 2-0 Malerich (8-1) /25 at Florida Atlantic W 1-0 White-Stokes (4-2) 17-3 Seminole Challenge 3/2 Central Michigan W 3-1 White-Stokes (5-2) /3 Northwestern W 2-1 Malerich (9-1) /3 Ball State W 1-0 van der Linden (6-0) /4 Northwestern W 8-2 White-Stokes (6-2) /4 Central Michigan W 2-0 Malerich (10-1) 22-3 A&M L 5-4 van der Linden (6-1) 22-4 San Diego State Tournament 3/9 vs UC Riverside W 8-0 White-Stokes (7-2) 23-4 Diego State W 2-1 (8) van der Linden (7-1) /10 vs UC Riverside CANCELED 3/10 vs Cal State Fullerton CANCELED 3/14 Nebraska L 3-0 Malerich (10-2) /15 Iowa State W 4-0 White-Stokes (8-2) 25-5 Tallahassee Democrat/Florida State Invitational Tournament 3/16 Iowa State W 6-0 van der Linden (8-1) /16 Syracuse W 3-2 White-Stokes (9-2) /17 Bethune-Cookman W 3-2 van der Linded (9-1) /17 Troy State W 11-0 White-Stokes (10-2) /17 Maryland CANCELED 3/19 Univ of Massaschusetts CANCELED 3/20 Univ of Connecticut W 8-0 van der Linden (10-1) /20 Univ of Connecticut W 3-0 White-Stokes (10-2) /28 Florida A&M W 7-0 Malerich (11-2) 32-5 Tech W 7-0 Malerich (12-2) 33-5 Tech L 2-1 (8) van der Linden (10-2) 33-6 State W 9-1 van der Linden (11-2) 34-6 State W 10-0 Malerich (13-2) 35-6 Carolina W 2-0 Malerich (14-2) 36-6 Carolina W 5-0 White-Stokes (12-2) 37-6 Tar Heel Invitational 4/7 Florida Atlantic W 5-4 (8) White-Stokes (13-2) /7 East Carolina W 2-0 White-Stokes (14-2) /8 North Carolina L 3-2 (8) van der Linden (11-3) 39-7 A&M W 6-0 Malerich (15-2) 40-7 State W 4-1 (10) Malerich (16-2) 41-7 State W 12-2 White-Stokes (15-2) 42-7 CANCELED CANCELED 4/17 Florida A&M W 12-0 van der Linden (12-3) 43-7 W 5-3 Malerich (17-2) 44-7 W 3-1 White-Stokes (16-2) /21 East Carolina W 9-2 Malerich (18-2) /21 East Carolina W 9-0 White-Stokes (17-1) /28 Virginia W 8-0 Malerich (19-2) /28 Virginia W 10-2 White-Stokes (18-2) 49-7 State W 1-0 van der Linden (13-3) 50-7 State L 2-1 White-Stokes (18-3) /5 Maryland W 5-0 Malerich (20-2) /5 Maryland W 10-1 White-Stokes (19-3) 52-8 ACC Tournament 5/11 Maryland W 2-1 (11) Malerich (21-2) /12 North Carolina L 2-0 Malerich (21-3) /13 Maryland W 4-0 Malerich (22-3) /13 North Carolina (Championship) L 4-1 White-Stokes (19-4)
