MISSION OCTOBER The Rays are seeking their fourth trip to the postseason, all STANDINGS A.L. WILD CARD coming in the last 6 years if they do it, they Tampa Bay will be one of four teams to reach the postseason 4 times since 2008 along with the Texas Cleveland Kansas City Yankees (4, trying for 5), Cardinals (4) and New York Phillies (4) if they make it, it would be their Baltimore second time doing so via AL Wild Card (also (GB of 2nd Wild Card) 2011 yesterday was a good day for the Rays in the Wild Card race, as they retained their half-game lead over Cleveland and gained a game on Texas (2.0 GB), New York (4.5 GB) and Baltimore (5.0 GB). The Rays are 5-2 so far in a stretch of 11 consecutive games against teams in contention for a Wild Card berth (2-2 vs. TEX, 3-0 vs. BAL, 3 upcoming at NYY). CRAIN JOINS BULLPEN Today the Rays reinstated RH Jesse Crain (right shoulder strain) from the 60-day DL and designated RH J.D. Martin for assignment Crain, 32, has yet to pitch for the Rays since he was acquired from the White Sox for future considerations on July 29 while on the DL he is 2-3 with a 0.74 ERA (36.2-IP, 3-ER) with 46 SO, 11 BB and no HR allowed, earning his first selection to the All-Star Game at the time he was placed on Chicago s DL on July 3 (retroactive to June 30) he led AL relievers in ERA and ranked 2nd with 19 holds he has only allowed 1 ER over his last 32 apps which included a White Sox record 29 consecutive scoreless apps from April 17 June 22.
