This trail is fun to ride, but it is even more fun to race. The UMass Bicycle Racing Club will host the 2011 Orchard Assault Mountain Bike Race in Amherst, MA on April 30 th Our legendary course has a lot to offer: fast single-track, fire roads, tight-switchbacks and flowing downhills. This 3.2 mile long trail is fun to ride, but it is even more fun to race. Look forward to a fun filled day with lots of intense racing! Volunteer: We appreciate and welcome everyone who wants to contribute to making this event fun and safe for everyone. We will need a lot of help; if you would like to be a volunteer please contact Allison Blacker at ablacker@student.umass.edu. Schedule Saturday April 30 th, 2011 XC Cross Country Event Time Laps Cat 3 9:00 3 Cat 2/Singlespeed Open 10:15 5 Pro/Cat 1/Cat 1 Singlespeed 1:00 7 Registration Registration Desk will be located at the start line of the race the UMass Observatory Cost: XC: $30 Pre- registration XC: $35 Day-of-registration Required Documents: Valid USA Cycling License Cat 2 & 3 one day licenses available Annual licenses required for Cat 1/Pro Day-Of: Day-of registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and will end a half hour before the start of each race on Saturday. There is a $5 fee per event for day-of registration. On-line: Register your team on bikereg.com. Search for 2011 Orchard Assault.

4 P a g e 3 Location/Directions The XC course is located on the campus of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. For those of you familiar with the campus of the university, the race is held in the woods of Orchard Hill. The start is beside the UMass Observatory, which is visible from the Orchard Hill Parking Lot 49. If you are not familiar with the university, please refer to the map on the next page. DIRECTIONS TO THE RACE: North or South: From route 91, take exit 19 (exit 18 from the North) to route 9 for Amherst & UMass. Follow route 9 East to the center of Amherst. Go left at light at the intersection of route 9 and North Pleasant Street. Follow N. Pleasant to 3rd light and continue straight onto East Pleasant Street. (Bertucci s is on the right hand side) Follow E. Pleasant approx. ½ mile, use second entrance to the UMass campus. Parking and registration will be on your right hand side. East or West: Take 91 via the Mass Turnpike (route 90), and then follow directions given above. 6 P a g e 5 Hotel/Food Hotel If you really need a hotel, there are too many options in the area. I will only list one, but a simple click on a search engine will shoot many results at you. The Campus Center Hotel: STAY ON CAMPUS! This is a pretty neat concept. There is a hotel in the middle of our campus that has a great view of the surrounding area. There is no way you could stay closer to the race. Food You could not be in a better place for food. Amherst has a lot to offer. If you want anything from a quality filled Italian spaghetti dinner to an authentic Mediterranean falafel you came to the right place. Not only are there great options downtown, but there are also award-winning UMass dining halls, the closest being Franklin Dining Common.
