LAST UPDATED 10/10/2012 MEET THE TEAMS RIDES If your team would like to host a ride and be added to this list, please contact marthalwalsh [at] yahoo.com. Here s your chance to meet members of many of the teams in the Seattle area (and beyond). Starting Saturday, September 8, clubs will lead weekend rides around the south end of Lake Washington (and elsewhere) for riders of all skill levels who are interested in racing. The complete ride schedule and information about each team are listed below. Rides leave Seattle s Leschi neighborhood on Saturdays and Sundays from Pert's Deli (120 Lakeside Ave, Seattle WA 98122). There is ample parking nearby. Please be at Pert s by 9:20 for a 9:30 AM departure. Locations and times of other rides are noted. These are social rides, at a conversational pace, around the south end of Lake Washington. Allow about 2 hours. The ride may stop for 5-10 minutes along the way, but otherwise, be prepared for a continuous ride. These rides happen rain, wind, or sunshine! Bring a functioning road bike (full fenders are appreciated on damp days), helmet, water, some food, weather-appropriate clothing, a little money, and an extra tube in case you flat. Saturday, September 8: SCCA/Starbucks Cycling / Contact: Paul Camera chantiqo [at] gmail.com SCCA / Starbucks Cycling competes in Road, Cyclocross, Track, and MTB racing in the Seattle and surrounding areas. We take pride in our high level of competition while maintaining a camaraderie that has translated to amazing success for riders and the team over the years. We maintain a full spectrum of racing Categories Women s and Men s program, with sponsorship incentives and race training, providing benefit to both the rider and sponsor. We provide an environment that allows riders to develop themselves to as high a level as they aspire.

Saturday, September 8: Team Cyclocrossracing.com CYCLOCROSS CLINIC, Luther-Burbank Park, Mercer Island 12:00 Noon Contact: Doug Reid vivahayduke [at] yahoo.com Team Cyclocrossracing.com is a national grassroots cycling team with over 75 athletes around the country of which 12 are pro/elites racing at the national, regional and local levels. Our Seattle Squad is growing and will be rallying under the team tent at nearly every Seattle-area CX race this season, so come join us if you are unattached and looking for a great team; we are open to new riders all season long. Our newly launched program nicknamed "the Sista Brigade!" will highlight the women on our team, break down barriers and provide more opportunity to women cyclocrossers. Help us make this program a success and spread the word to any woman thinking about getting into the sport. Meet at 11:45am for a noon start. We ll set up an unofficial course for hotlaps and a skills area for working on CX technique (barriers, runups, off cambers, and hopefully some sand). There will be several experienced and local "celebrity" crossers out there to lead the drills, offer advice and technique critiques, and answer questions. If you are just thinking about launching a career in cyclocross and don't yet have a bike, show up on your road bike or mountain bike and join in on some of the skills. Demo bikes will be available on a limited basis. Sunday, September 9: Peterson Racing Contact: Mirna Nieto mirna.nieto [at] gmail.com Peterson Racing is an all-women team that focuses on competitive racing in road, cyclocross, triathlon, mountain, and track. Team members are committed to growing the sport of cycling for women. Furthermore, Peterson Racing is committed to empower women outside of cycling. The women of Peterson Racing have partnered with Jubilee Women s Center, a non-profit transitional house for homeless and low-income women. The riders volunteer at Jubilee by preparing meals, teaching wellness, bike maintenance, and technology courses, and working on site at the Capitol Hill facility.

Saturday, September 15: Blue Rooster Racing Contact: Linda Coppa lindacoppa [at] gmail.com The Blue Rooster Racing team supports the development of competitive cyclists. The team encourages new and experienced racers and seeks to attract athletes who are passionate about bike racing. We maintain a healthy balance between cycling and greater responsibilities such as career and family. One of the only multidisciplinary teams in Seattle, Blue Rooster aka Avanti Racing has been active in the Northwest peloton since 1988, competing in road, track, mountain, and cyclocross events. The Avanti Club focuses on racing and provides the training support necessary to compete effectively while maintaining balance in our busy lives. If you are looking for a team that shares your passion for all types of racing, join us for a spin. Sunday, September 16: Intro to Women s Cycling and Racing Teams Meet at 9 a.m. to be on the road by 9:10 Contact: Gina gkavesh [at] gmail.com Join us for the sixth annual Intro to Women s Cycling and Racing Teams! Women from many of the local racing teams will host three Sunday rides similar to the Meet the Teams rides, but these rides are for women only, and each ride is hosted by women representatives from multiple teams. If you are new to the racing community, looking to strengthen your riding skills, thinking about racing in 2013, or looking to speak with other women about local racing teams or riding opportunities, this ride s for you! Skills: pacelines, riding a straight line, and racing tactics/techniques. Depending on turnout, we'll break into groups no greater than 10 to keep it manageable and go over the basics, making sure to keep things fun and not stressful. Sunday, September 16: APEX Racing Contact: Scott Musgrove scott [at] scottmusgrove.com Note: This is a men-only team, thus a men-only ride and thus no conflict with the Intro to Women's Cycling ride which meets 30 minutes before the Apex Meet the Team ride. Apex riders share a passion for bicycle road racing while competing in all disciplines. Our organization is rigidly structured around laissez faire decentralization. We celebrate team results derived from strong personal work ethic. Apex knows that character and individuality are as important as podium finishes, and almost as important as how sweet your equipment is. We invite experienced or aspiring

Category 2, 3 and 4 senior and master racers who are looking for something different...is the green jersey for you? Saturday, September 22: Team Group Health & Second Ascent Team Group Health Contact: Meg Zabielski mzabiels [at] gmail.com Team Group Health (TGH) is a competitive women's cycling team based in Seattle, WA. Our mission is to promote women's health, fitness, and competitive spirit through bicycle racing. We re one of the largest women's cycling teams in the Pacific Northwest: with approximately 70 members, our team is a veritable force wherever the rubber meets the road, the track, or the dirt. We are passionate about investing the time necessary to educate and train our members in the art of racing and to develop the women's peloton in the PNW. Whether your thing is cyclocross, mountain, track, or road, you'll find supportive, fun, and amazing women at TGH ready to help get you where you want to go. Second Ascent Contact: membership [at] stepdownracing.com Second Ascent/Step Down Racing is a regional men's team, formed in 2002 with an emphasis on the fun and camaraderie of team training and racing. We like to train hard, race to win, and also enjoy team functions off the bike. We look forward to another season of growth and success with the committed sponsorship of our title sponsor Second Ascent. For 2013 we are looking to expand our team at every level and we invite all riders who are interested in bike racing to come out and join us for our introductory ride. Sunday, September 23: Fischer Plumbing Contact: Dodi Nov drdodi [at] bellevuesmiles.com We are a team that takes racing seriously but not too seriously. We have members (men and women) racing all disciplines: road, track, cross-country mtb, cyclocross, and downhill. With lots of resources as well as some very experienced members (multiple national and world champs!) we have a great support structure. Come on out and meet us on the ride or us for another time and see if we have what you re looking for. If you re just an off road rider (Cx or mtb) then we can arrange a meeting on the dirt! We don t require much no race minimums per season just that we like you and you like to ride.

Tacoma Bike Racing offers and encourages members of the team to work together to help each other improve and become stronger, smarter, and more competitive cyclists. The team offers members a supportive framework in which to pursue their racing goals, as well as offering aspiring racers an environment in which to grow and learn about the sport. Please contact Jim Ahrens if you have any questions. Sunday, October 7: Bikesport Racing Contact: Jason Bavuso (jasonbavuso@gmail.com) Note: This is a men-only team, thus a men-only ride and thus no conflict with the Intro to Women's Cycling ride which meets 30 minutes before the Bikesport Meet the Team ride. Bikesport Racing/Market Street Cycling Club has been a small, local presence in the cycling community here since The focus of the team has varied over the

years but the pure fun, guts and mud of Cyclocross has been the glue for the team since day one. It has always been the vision and practice of the team to reward those in the cycling community who were doing great things for young racers or simply kids just enjoying the fun and freedom riding a bike. This past December Bikesport Racing was the promoter of the 2011 Washington State Cyclocross Championship Race in Arlington. The race was an official USAC-sanctioned championship but also our fundraiser to support Bike Works ( We have a busy membership who all want more teammates this year! If you are committed to racing (especially cyclocross) in 2012 and beyond, we encourage you to please get to know us. Come to the Meet the Team Ride, join us for a Sunday "shop ride" from Bikesport, or approach us at a race. The team has always focused on a friendly, respectful culture of bike racing. We like to ride well, know the small details of the sport, and work to be good stewards of cycling in Seattle and wherever we race. For a small team we have generous benefits from the shop and our sponsor. Our best benefit is a truly dedicated membership that cares a great deal about racing well and having a fun time doing it! Sunday, October 7: Olympia Women-Only Ride Hosted by Olympica Orthopaedic Associates/CBC Racing Team Contact: Michelle mtkkautzmann@yahoo.com 10:00 am. Meet at Tumwater Falls Park. Saturday, October 13: Recycled Cycles Racing Contact: Todd Schneider schneiderone [at] gmail.com A 15-year veteran of the Northwest bicycle racing scene, the Recycled Cycles Racing team has emphasized rider development by encouraging and supporting racers to fulfill their potential. This relationship promotes the sport of cycling as a whole, and it demonstrates our commitment to teamwork and to the cycling community. We support men's, women's, and juniors road, cross, track, and mountain racing programs, as well as local race promotion, helmet safety, and cycling organizations such as USAC, WSBA, IMBA, NORBA, and their affiliates. For 2013, we are seeking both new and seasoned male and female racers of all skill levels and disciplines that want to learn, train, ride, and race within a tight-knit group of friends. Our Cat 5's and 4's are enthusiastic, hard-working, and are driven to upgrade. Our Cat 3's are consistently a force to reckon with at every race they attend. And our men's and women's Cat 1/2's are serious and winning, and we'd love to recruit more for their ranks.

Saturday, October 20: IC3NW/UGM Cycling Team 9:00 am at Eastside Foursquare Church ( th Ave NE, Bothell 98011) Contact: Kyle Foss ic3nwcyclingteam [at] gmail.com The IC3NW/UGM Cycling Team is a collaboration between the International Christian Cycling Club (IC3) NW Chapter and the Seattle Union Gospel Mission (UGM). We have a good base of recreational members and are looking to expand our racing presence in Our meet the team ride will coincide w/ our "Ride Your Socks Off" benefit event where we will be transporting donated socks from Bothell to the Seattle UGM in Downtown Seattle. This is a great opportunity to learn about a different kind of team in the PNW, come join us! Ride will follow the Burke-Gilman Trail into downtown Seattle and back via the same route. Ride distance is 40 miles. Saturday, October 27: High Performance Cycling Contact: David Longdon cascade.cyclist [at] gmail.com The High Performance Cycling (HPC) Team is a collaboration between the Cascade Bicycle Club and Cycle University and is dedicated to supporting strong recreational cyclists who want to improve their skills and fitness while practicing safe group cycling techniques in a non-racing environment. We have about 80 team members, with ages ranging from late 20s to early 60s. Although we don't emphasize racing, some of our stronger riders compete in individual time trials, multisport events, or races at Seward Park or Pacific Raceways. Most team members target big event rides, like Flying Wheels in under 5 hours or STP in 10 hours. Team membership includes an annual fitness test, summer clinics on topics such as group riding and climbing/descending, and team discounts at Cycle University. If you are looking to ride with a team of strong cyclists who like to ride with one another rather than against one another, Team HPC is for you. Saturday, November 17: Hagens Berman Cycling Contact: Loren Pokorny lorenpo [at] microsoft.com The Hagens Berman Cycling/ Lake Washington Velo program is built on a strong team-oriented model, something that is often missing from amateur-level competitive cycling today. More experienced riders share their knowledge with less

experienced team members. In addition to racing, members are encouraged to be active in the club and assist in the club's operations and projects. Towards the development of individual members, LWV provides the following benefits: Organized group training rides and the opportunity to find training partners. A detailed annual training plan which can be tailored to a member s individual abilities and goals. Coaching in physical training, cycling skills, and racing tactics and strategy. Consistently attended team rides. Financial support in the form of equipment discounts from sponsors and reimbursement for selected race fees and travel. Incentives for leadership roles and all-around performance (not limited only to race results). We are developing a women s team for Hagens Berman in We are looking for women who race and train alongside talented mentors, experienced racers and coaches. If you are looking to get into bike racing as a sport or are interested in helping to build and shape a focused women s racing program here in the PNW please consider Hagens Berman Cycling team. Ladies of all abilities are welcome. Please help us build a great team for women in 2013.
