Everyone is welcome, no matter what their age or ability. Cyclists will be able to join the route at any point, cycle round at any pace and as many times as they like, stopping en route to enjoy a range of bike-based entertainment and activities. 2 The event showcases the capital on traffic-free roads. The route takes in the Strand, Lincoln s Inn Fields and the Victoria Embankment, taking in a section of the East-West Cycle Superhighway (CS3). The eight-mile circuit passes iconic London landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Paul s Cathedral and the Bank of England and again goes south of the river with a loop over Waterloo Bridge, offering stunning views of London. There are a further two miles of Explore Routes through the City of London, allowing riders to meander through the historic streets of the capital. Seven Festival Zones offer riders a chance to stop and enjoy a huge range of free bike-based entertainment and to try out many different bike-based activities. New for 2017, the St Paul s Churchyard Festival Zone now includes Paternoster Square, along with the South Bank, Green Park, Guildhall Yard, Leadenhall Market, Aldwych and Lincoln s Inn Fields. WHEEL LOVE Wheel Love will take place at Paternoster Square, St Paul s, which has become a popular attraction for those looking for romance as it is where the hit Channel 4 programme First Dates is filmed. Couples will be offered the chance to pedal special Wheel Love date bikes around a section of the FreeCycle route it could be a couple on their first date, a married couple on a date day, a friends date or anything else! EXPLORE ROUTES There are two miles of Explore Routes in the City of London, which give riders the chance to discover the secret corners of the City in a fun and safe environment. ANDREI BURTON Following on from last year s appearance where he smashed three Guinness World Records in the space of 15 minutes, stunt cyclist Andrei Burton will be attempting to break more records in the London Trials Championships, presented by Buxton, at this year s Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle. Burton and his team will be appearing at the Buxton Arena in Green Park, a zone built specially for the stuntman to replicate the greystone buildings and bridges of the Derbyshire town that gives its name to the famous mineral water. EVERYONE S WELCOME Aimed at cyclists of all ages and abilities, Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle is guaranteed to be a lively day out. The event will demonstrate that cycling can be fun and a great route to a healthy, active lifestyle as well as helping the environment. It aims to continue to build on the legacy of London 2012 by encouraging people of all ages to stay inspired by the Games and entice more people to go cycling more often. ON-THE-DAY TIMINGS The Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle route and Festival Zones open at 09:00 on Saturday 29 July. Riders planning to ride with a young family are encouraged to avoid the afternoon as the route is likely to be at its busiest between 12:00 and 14:00 and will reopen to traffic at 16:00. EVENT GOODIES The first 20,000 registrants for the event received a free event tabard. All participants receive a free Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle goody bag, which they may collect from the Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show at ExCeL in east London from 27 to 29 July. FESTIVAL ZONES Seven Festival Zones will be at the heart of Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle. They are located at Green Park, St Paul s Churchyard, Guildhall Yard, Leadenhall Market, Aldwych, Lincoln s Inn Fields and South Bank all well worth a visit. Each Festival Zone will feature a huge range of live bikerelated entertainment, music, shows, demonstrations and workshops. In addition to the great cycling on offer, there will also be entertainment for the whole family to enjoy along and on the route, including a fleet of music bikes and bands on bikes. All the activities are free of charge as part of a fantastic day out for all the family. Each Festival Zone will also have toilet facilities and water bottle refill stations so that riders can stay hydrated. First Aid medical provision will be available along the Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle route and in each Festival Zone. It takes place on a spectacular circuit in Central London, in and around St James s Park. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON // 39

6 Saturday 29 July Prudential RideLondon Classique UCI WorldTour Ranked as one of the world s top women s UCI WorldTour races, the Prudential RideLondon Classique will feature 18 of the current top 20 teams in the Women s WorldTour rankings, including all of the top 10. The women will race 12 laps of the spectacular 5.5km circuit in central London. The circuit begins on The Mall in St James s Park, goes up Constitution Hill, turning at the top to come down and onto Birdcage Walk, then passes Big Ben and turns left onto Whitehall and right onto the Strand before turning again to come back up the Strand, through Trafalgar Square, Admiralty Arch and back onto The Mall. See route map on pages 47 and 48. For the second successive year, the prize money for the Prudential RideLondon Classique is the highest ever offered anywhere in the world for a women s one-day race and matches the prize money offered at the world s richest one-day men s race the next day the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic. The total prize pool for each race is 100,000 Euros. The individual winner of the Prudential RideLondon Classique wins 25,000 Euros in prize money and the winning team is awarded 10,000 Euros. There will be three Continental Tyres Sprints classifications in the race offering a further 12,600 Euros in prize money. The Continental Tyres Sprints will take place at the end of laps three, six and nine. The first four riders will get points for each of the three sprints. The rider with the most points from the three sprints wins the overall Continental Tyres Sprints competition, and a share of the 12,600 Euros prize fund. The Prudential RideLondon Classique is the 14th race on the 2017 UCI Women s WorldTour calendar. The race will be screened live on BBC Two, from 18:00-18:50 (subject to change so please check schedules), for the fifth successive year. It was the first women s race in the UK, outside the Olympic or Commonwealth Games, to be broadcast live. At the inaugural criterium event in 2013, Britain s double Olympic champion Laura Kenny supported by her Team Wiggle Honda and GB teammates Joanna Rowsell and Dani King beat national criterium champion Hannah Barnes in a dramatic sprint finish on The Mall to win the event. The following year, Team Wiggle Honda retained the title as Italy s Giorgia Bronzini (a two-time world road race champion) outsprinted world and Olympic road race champion Marianne Vos in another breath-taking finish, winning by less than a quarter of a wheel. The third winner of the women s race was Velocio Sports rider Barbara Guarischi who snatched the win by half a wheel from defending champion Bronzini in a bunch sprint for the line in In 2016, the Prudential RideLondon Classique won UCI WorldTour status and replaced the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix criterium race. The inaugural Prudential RideLondon Classique saw the Dutch sprinter Kirsten Wild (Hitec Products) claim victory. #PEDALPARITY In 2016 Prudential RideLondon launched #PedalParity, a social media campaign to celebrate its landmark decision to award the women s elite race the same world record one-day prize pool 100,000 Euros as the elite men s race, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic which takes place the following day. The equality in pay is a first in women s cycling with Prudential RideLondon leading the way in redressing the financial gap in top level men s and women s events. The campaign was launched with the support of 2015 winner Barbara Guarischi, former champion Giorgia Bronzini and Britain s world champion Lizzie Deignan. Hugh Brasher, Event Director, said: We believe in equality in sport. We are proud to have made the prize money in the Classique exactly the same as the Classic, thereby making it the richest women s one-day race in the world. With our #PedalParity campaign, we hope to encourage other events to follow our lead and recognise that the world s best women riders should be rewarded equally with the world s best men. They train as hard, race as hard and commit themselves to their sport just as the very best men do. Rochelle Gilmore, the owner and manager of Wiggle High5, said: To have parity will get people to view women s cycling as a professional sport and I hope it will open up the dreams for women wanting to become professionals. 7 PRL MEDIA GUIDE 2017 THE TEAMS (all information correct as at 10 July) The Prudential RideLondon Classique features an outstanding mix of the world s top female riders from UCI professional teams and domestic British teams, with 18 of the current top 20 UCI Women s Elite teams confirmed to take part, including all of the top 10. Defending champion Kirsten Wild returns to try to replicate her 2016 victory in front of Buckingham Palace for her new team for 2017, Cylance Pro Cycling. She will line up alongside the 2014 winner Giorgia Bronzini (Wiggle High5) and the newly crowned 2017 OVO Energy Women s Tour of Britain champion Katarzyna Niewiadoma (WM3 Pro Cycling Team). Niewiadoma claimed the biggest win of her career at the OVO Energy Women s Tour when she rode away from the peloton to claim victory on stage one and held onto her lead throughout the next four stages to win the overall title. Italy s Bronzini (Wiggle High5) has twice won the world championship road race and sprinted to victory on The Mall at Prudential RideLondon in British stars and sisters Hannah and Alice Barnes will also be looking to continue their successful season in front of the London crowds. Hannah, who rides for Canyon SRAM, comes fresh from a podium finish at this year s OVO Energy Women s Tour of Britain and a stage win at the women s Giro d Italia. Alice, who rides for Drops, tasted victory this year winning the Lincoln Grand Prix. Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team, formed in 2012, has been the dominant force in women s cycling this year and currently top the UCI Women s WorldTour rankings. Among the confirmed riders for Boels-Dolmans is Dutch National Champion Chantal Blaak. Dutch Team Sunweb Women s Cycling Team will be bringing a strong team to the Classique as they look to build on their strong showing in the UCI Women s WorldTour. Riding for them will be Lucinda Brand winner of Omloop Het Nieuwsblat. Australian team Orica-Scott return to London with new recruit Georgina Baker who is turning her attention to the road having already achieved a lot on the track, including an Olympic debut for Australia last year in Rio. At just 22 years of age, Baker has proven her talent on the track and has displayed huge potential as a strong road rider too. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON // 41

Her impressive season has also seen her finish on the podium at Strade Bianche, Liege-Baston-Liege, La Fleche Wallonne and Amstel Gold. Last year s winner returns to defend her 2016 victory. Now riding for Cyclance Pro Cycling, she will line up alongside domestic favourite Dani King. Wild is a veteran of the women s peloton with an impressive career on both the road and the track, winning both European and world titles. Name: ALICE BARNES (GBR) Team: Drops Cycling Team Date of birth: 17/07/1995 Home town: Towcester, UK Racing against her sister Hannah is another rising star of British cycling. She began her career in mountain biking where she competed for England in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. In the following year, 2015, now racing on the road, she finished second to Lizzie Deignan in the 2015 British National Road Race Championships and was crowned national under-23 champion. Her Drops Cycling Team was established in 2016 and this is their second appearance in the Classique. Name: GIORGIA BRONZINI Team: Wiggle High5 Date of birth: 03/08/1983 Home town: Piacenza, Italy The two-time world champion and 2014 Prudential RideLondon winner is always one to watch. Having announced her retirement at the end of 2016 she decided to return for another season to help guide her young Wiggle High5 team mates. The home favourite finished as the best British rider and an impressive third in this year s OVO Energy Women s Tour of Britain. She has had success racing in the capital in the past winning the London Nocturne five years in a row between 2009 and Barnes also won a stage at the women s Giro d Italia earlier this month. She will be racing alongside former world time trial champion and 2015 Women s Tour of Britain winner Lisa Brennauer. 42 // PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON

9 s PRL MEDIA GUIDE 2017 THE TEAMS - UCI WORLDTOUR TEAMS Boels-Dolmans (Netherlands) Established in 2012, Boels-Dolmans is one of the dominant forces in women s cycling, currently leading the UCI rankings with 18 wins this season including five national titles. Dutch National Champion Chantal Blaak and Amy Pieters, winner of stage two in the OVO Energy Women s Tour of Britain, will be rolling out at the start. Wiggle High5 (Great Britain) The British-registered team is the creation of team owner, manager and rider Rochelle Gilmore. Formed in 2012, the team features former Prudential RideLondon Women s Grand Prix winner Giorgia Bronzini and Jolien D hoore who was victorious in the final stage of the OVO Energy Women s Tour of Britain on the streets of London. Canyon SRAM Racing (Germany) Now firmly established in the women s peloton, Canyon SRAM will again be bringing a strong line up to the start line of the Prudential RideLondon Classique. British favourite Hannah Barnes, Lisa Brennauer and 2015 winner Barbara Guarischi are all expected to feature. Ale Cipollini (Italy) The Italian-registered team was founded in 2011 and had two riders on the podium of the 2015 Prudential RideLondon Women s Grand Prix, Shelley Olds and Annalisa Cucinotta. This year new recruit Australian sprinter Chloe Hosking will be hoping for a repeat of her victory in stage three of the OVO Energy Women s Tour of Britain. Cylance Pro Cycling Team (USA) Last year s winner Kirsten Wild is new to the Cylance team for this season and she will no doubt be hoping to make it two in a row. She will be riding alongside British favourite Dani King and Spanish National Road Race Champion Sheyla Gutierrez. BTC City Ljubljana (Slovenia) Slovenia s first ever professional women s cycling team BTC City Ljubljana finished 15th (out of 31 teams) in their first ever year in 2015 and are now making strides as the team sitting 11th in the UCI rankings. Croatian National Road Race Champion Mia Radotic will be on the Start Line fresh from her victory. SPORTSWEAR Orica-Scott (Australia) The Australian-registered Orica-Scott competed in the inaugural Prudential RideLondon Women s Grand Prix in They are back this year as the sixth-ranked UCI women s team and will be challenging with riders including Georgia Baker and Gracie Elvin, who was second at the Tour of Flanders earlier this year. Team Tibco-Silicon Valley Bank (USA) Now in their 13th season of competitive racing, Team Tibco- Silicon Valley Bank have clocked up five wins so far this season, with American Lauren Stephens picking up two of these victories and she would no doubt like to add a third. Hitec Products (Norway) Norwegian-based team Hitec Products, formed in 2009, won last year s Classique with Kirsten Wild. Wild has now moved on so they will be looking to Nina Kessler to repeat her success. Kessler won this year s Spar Flanders Diamond Tour. Astana Women s Team (Kazakhstan) Kazakhstan-registered Astana Women s Team was born out of the desire to improve the quality of women s cycling in Kazakhstan. The team has gone on to win the National Championship Road Race in Kazakhstan, and the National Championship in Cuba this season. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON // 43

10 BePink (Italy) Italian outfit BePink began life in 2011 as Astana BePink with past riders including previous Prudential RideLondon Women s Grand Prix winner Barbara Guarischi. Lensworld-Kuota (Belgium) Originally registered as Lensworld- Zannata, they were formed in 2013 under the name Team Futurumshop.nl-Polaris. They rode the 2016 Prudential RideLondon Classique with Dutch national madison champion Nina Kessler placing second. Drops Cycling Team (Great Britain) This is the second year at the Classique for the British-based Drops Cycling Team. Featuring young British rider Alice Barnes, sister of Canyon SRAM Racing rider Hannah. Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team (Switzerland) Established in 2005, the Swissregistered Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team has finished on the podium nine times so far this season, with star riders Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and Lotta Lepistö set to challenge in London this year. Moolman-Pasio is the South African individual time trial champion while Lepistö is the Finnish national road race and individual time trial champion. Team GB (Great Britain) The only national cycling team to ride the Prudential RideLondon Classique, Team GB is a showcase for emerging young talent. Among those wearing the red, white and blue kit will be Manon Lloyd, double European junior champion in 2014 where she won gold in both the team pursuit and the points race. Joining Lloyd will be Emily Nelson who competed in the final round of the 2015/2016 UCI World Cup Series in Hong Kong, where she was part of the silver medal winning team pursuit, as well as winning bronze in the individual points race. WM3 Pro Cycling Team (Netherlands) WM3 are currently third in the UCI rankings and are the home of one of women s cycling s greats Marianne Vos. Vos is hoping to recover from a broken collarbone in time for the Classique. If she does, she will start alongside OVO Energy Tour of Britain winner Katarzyna Niewiadoma. Team Velo Concept (Switzerland) Swiss-registered Team Velo Concept will be bringing two national road race champions in the form of Sweden s Sara Penton and Denmark s Camilla Mollebro. FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope (France) FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope is the only French team in the Women s WorldTour and currently sits 14th in the UCI rankings. Among the riders scheduled for this year s Classique are Australian Shara Gillow and Dutch rider Roxane Knetemann, who, along with Eri Yonamine from Japan, are the only non-french riders in the team. Team Sunweb (Netherlands) The Dutch-based team are fourth in the UCI rankings and will bring a strong team to the start line. Lucinda Brand, winner of Omloop Het Nieuwsblat, will be joined by Coryn Rivera, who has topped the podium in the Tour of Flanders and the Trofeo Alfredo Binda and recently finished second in the US National Road Race championship. Team WNT (Great Britain) British Team WNT is the home of Team GB Olympic gold medallist Katie Archibald. Currently taking some time away from the track, Archibald will be aiming to better her second place at the GB National Championships on the Isle of Man. 44 // PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON

The line-up this year features Lotte Kopecky, who recently finished second at the Belgian Championships for the fourth year in a row. Servetto Guista (Italy) Italian-based Servetto bring a truly international line up to this year s Classique with riders from Taiwan, Russia, Italy, Colombia and Kazakhstan s individual time trial champion Natalya Sokovnina. 13 THE 12TH BROMPTON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL This unique and hugely enjoyable event takes the form of a Le Mans-style start as more than 500 smartly-dressed competitors (no Lycra allowed!) make a mad dash to unfold their bikes before setting off on the fast, flat 1.3- mile circuit around St James s Park. The Brompton World Championship was first held in Barcelona in Twelve years on, there are 12 satellite events taking place across the globe, including Japan, Korea, USA and Mexico. The fastest male and female from each event automatically qualifies for the Final. With more than 27 countries represented and former pro cyclists and special guests involved, 2017 promises to be a vintage Final. Previous winners include the British racing cyclist and writer Michael Hutchinson and Roberto Heras, three-time winner of the Vuelta a España, while last year Mark Emsley stormed to his third victory. Brompton bikes have been made in London since 1975 and are designed for cities, making the Prudential RideLondon route the perfect backdrop to showcase this iconic British brand. About the Brompton Bicycle The Brompton bike was designed in 1975 by Andrew Ritchie in his flat opposite the Brompton Oratory in South Kensington. Still made in London today, Brompton is making more than 45,000 bikes per year and is the UK s largest bike manufacturer. Each bike is handmade by highly skilled craftsmen and can be customised with more than 16 million combinations to suit all those who live, work and play in the city. Brompton Bike Hire In the UK, Brompton Bicycle has also opened a Bike Hire scheme. He won four stages of the Tour de France, five of the Vuelta a España and one stage of the Giro d Italia. He is the only British rider to have worn all Tour de France jerseys and one of eight to have worn the yellow jersey. He was also the first (of two) British riders ever to have worn the leader s jersey in all three Grand Tours. This is Millar s third Brompton World Championship. The time-trial specialist has won a number of national championships and his book The Hour won him the 2007 Best New Writer in the British Sports Books Awards.
