Accredited photographers will also be issued with an official photographer s bib, which must be worn at all times. Broadcast crews will also be issued with an official bib. All BBC Sport and Century TV personnel will be issued with a TV HOST bib. Non rights-holding television crews will be issued with a TV bib. These bibs must be worn at all times when working at the Starts, Finish or around the routes. It is strongly recommended that media wishing to cover the start of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 travel to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park by taxi or minicab as public transport is extremely limited at that time on a Sunday. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY 46: QUEEN ELIZABETH OLYMPIC PARK 09:00-09:45, SUNDAY 29 JULY The first wave of riders in the Prudential RideLondon- Surrey 46 cross the Start Line at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park at 09:00 on Sunday 29 July and the last start wave is scheduled for 09:45. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY 19: SANDOWN PARK RACECOURSE 14:30-15:30, SUNDAY 29 JULY The first riders in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 cross the Start Line at Sandown Park Racecourse at 14:30 on Sunday 29 July and the last start wave is scheduled for 15:30. It is strongly recommended that media wishing to cover the start of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 travel to Sandown Park Racecourse by public transport due to the extensive road closures in place for the event. The nearest train station is Esher. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY CLASSIC: UCI WORLDTOUR, HORSE GUARDS PARADE 13:40, SUNDAY 29 JULY As is customary at UCI WorldTour events, there will be media access to the team buses and rider sign-on in Horse Guards Parade prior to the Start of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic at 13:40 on Sunday 29 July. Interview requests for other participants in the women s race, or for riders in the Brompton World Championship Final and Prudential RideLondon Handcycle Grand Prix, should be made to the Helpdesk in the Media Centre and staff will work to facilitate these. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY 100 and 46 SUNDAY 29 JULY Famous names participating in the events will be available for interview prior to the Start in the designated area at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (see map on page 55-56). Media staff will be at the Start to facilitate interviews and photographs. The spotters team will endeavour to meet all the famous names and other requested participants as they cross the Finish Line in The Mall and facilitate interviews with broadcast and written media as requested. Interview requests for celebrities and other participants should be made to the Helpdesk in the Media Centre in advance and staff will work to facilitate these. All riders will be available for interview either in the mixed zone adjacent to the presentation podium or in the team buses on Horse Guards Parade. 7 MEDIA GUIDE 2018 TERMS & CONDITIONS AND CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ACCREDITED PHOTOGRAPHERS All photographers applying for accreditation accepted the following Terms & Conditions and Code of Conduct for Prudential RideLondon. These are included again in this media guide for information. The photographer (on his/her own behalf and, where he/ she is an employee, also on behalf of his/her employer), agrees, as a condition of his/her being allowed accreditation, that the following terms and conditions will be adhered to and recognises that any infringement can and will lead to the accreditation being withdrawn permanently. Terms & Conditions 1. The use of the photographs by the photographer or any third party authorised by the photographer shall also be strictly in accordance with the following policies: 2. Photographs may be used or syndicated only for editorial purposes in printed/press media form and no photographs may be licensed/used by third parties for commercial reproduction, whether on a paid-for or free-ofcharge basis. 3. Editorial purposes are defined as printed newspapers, magazines, books and editorial websites; all other uses are deemed commercial. In particular commercial includes but is not limited to: 3.1 Promotions or any promotional materials other than the promotion of editorial coverage of Prudential RideLondon in newspapers, magazines and other editorial service, and point-of-sale promotion for such coverage; or 3.2 Advertising (including advertorials or charity websites) or competitions; or 3.3 Packaging; or 3.4 Merchandising purposes, as well as apps, games, animations, avatars and invitations. 4. Images may not be used as part of sequence streaming or images or which in anyway emulate moving pictures. No still photographic pictures or sequences of pictures may be used or modified in any way for the production/creation of a moving film or video, or any other type of moving image, however the content may be delivered. 5. It is absolutely prohibited for any stills photographer or support staff attending to shoot video or moving images of any nature, using cameras of any type. Any breach of this clause shall result in the immediate and permanent withdrawal of the photographer s accreditation. 6. Commercial exploitation of the photographs beyond that set out in section 2 is only possible with written approval from the organisers of Prudential RideLondon. This will be on terms to be negotiated in good faith between the organisers of Prudential RideLondon and the photographer/organisation. 7. The photographer must not allow the use of photographs, nor represent his/her own status or that of his/her agencies and/or their clients, in such a way as to imply any official commercial relationship between any commercial entity and the organisers of the event. 8. Photographs may not be altered or manipulated (electronically or otherwise) in such a way as to misrepresent actual events or to superimpose, remove or alter any advertising or promotional material. 9. Images are not to be used in association with (or positioned or juxtapositioned with) any marks, names or logos of any third party (commercial or otherwise) as to imply an official association where none exists. 10. When dealing with officials, all photographers should understand that some of these are working in a voluntary capacity. Officials should offer their assistance with photographic matters where necessary or when requested. All difficulties or disputes should be addressed in the first instance to the Press Office. 11. Photographers must not inhibit or delay riders or support vehicles in any way while moving on the course. 12. In cases where spectators are found to be occupying photo positions, please ask the spectator politely to move. If your request is denied always ask for the assistance of the steward or security guard controlling the area in question. 13. Passes are issued solely for the purpose of press photographic coverage and must be displayed at all times. 14. Under no circumstances are television cameras to be obstructed. 15. No brightly coloured clothing or clothing bearing any kind of advertising or excessive branding may be worn. No excessive logos or stickers are permitted on camera equipment. 16. When working in photo positions you must respect and not infringe, impede or obstruct your fellow photographers. Photographers agree that use may be made, free of charge, of his/her name, voice, image and likeness by means of live or recorded audio/visual broadcast or transmission or recordings, photographs or any current or future technologies. 17. It is understood that if you use the organisation s photo buses, in the case of unforeseen delay, traffic etc you may fail to return in time for the finish. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON // 19

8 18. All photographers attending any Prudential RideLondon event must be covered by third-party liability insurance, with coverage of not less than 2 million sterling. By attending any Prudential RideLondon event, the photographer in so doing personally certifies that the appropriate cover is in place. 19. For reasons of privacy and/or decency, photographs must not be taken of riders while they are:- i) receiving medical treatment off the route or field of play or in medical areas; or ii) dressing or undressing TV COVERAGE BBC Coverage BBC Sport is once again proud to bring you the sixth instalment of Prudential RideLondon this year. The award-winning cycling festival has become a fixture in our summer of sport, with millions of viewers tuning in to the BBC to watch some of the best male and female cyclists in the world. For 2018 we ll once again be live on BBC Two on Saturday evening for the women s Classique, with a top class field battling it out around Westminster and St James s Park. On Sunday morning there will be an hour long special on BBC One showing some of the first riders finishing the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 and 46 sportives along with human interest stories and build up to the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic men s professional race. In the afternoon there be live coverage from the start of the Classic on the BBC Red Button with the final hours on BBC One, with news and updates from the other events on what s sure to be another terrific weekend. Jill Douglas hosts the coverage with commentary coming from Simon Brotherton, Rochelle Gilmore, Magnus Backstedt and Yanto Barker. And we re not just about covering the sport. Host Broadcaster The host broadcast coverage of Prudential RideLondon will again be provided by Century TV. As producer of the previous five editions of Prudential RideLondon, The Tour of Britain, The Women s Tour and The Cycle Show, Century TV is highly experienced in broadcasting cycling events. For the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic, a total of 18 cameras will capture the race action from the Start at Horse Guards Parade through the Surrey countryside and back to The Mall. As well as fixed cameras at the Start, Finish, Dorking and Ranmore Common, the production will have five mobile cameras mounted on motorbikes to work right at the heart of the race, telling all the stories over more than five hours. A helicopter will capture all of the best aerial views of the action and the famous landmarks passed by the riders. Yanto Barker will give expert commentary and analysis on the road from a mobile reporter bike stationed within the race feeding live images and audio directly back to the BBC viewers. All of these mobile cameras are linked back to the hub OB at Canada Gate via an aeroplane flying at 28,000 feet. The 2018 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will also see the addition of cameras inside the Team Cars so you can hear all the action from the Sports Directors. This is alongside the on-screen graphics showing rider data to help explain how these athletes deal with the challenging Prudential RideLondon route, giving the viewer the full race experience. For the third successive year, live on-board cameras will be added to the coverage of the women s Classique on Saturday, supplementing the 10 track cameras on the 5.4km route with its iconic London landmarks. As well as the coverage going to the BBC and the big screens around the route, a world feed programme will go live around the globe, hosted by commentator Declan Quigley. 20 // PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON

9 MEDIA GUIDE 2018 ESSENTIAL FACTS Prudential RideLondon is the world s greatest festival of cycling, developed by the Mayor of London and his agencies in partnership with Surrey County Council. Staged for the first time in August 2013, it is the largest festival of cycling in the world with more than 100,000 participants expected to cycle more than three million miles during the weekend of July It combines the fun of a free family ride in central London with the excitement of watching the world s best professional cyclists. Amateur cyclists participate by riding a 100-mile, 46-mile or new for 2018, a 19-mile challenge on the same closed roads as the professional road race, raising millions for good causes. More than 53 million has been raised for charity in the first five years of the festival. Entry to the 2018 Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show is FREE and open to all: participants, friends, families, cycling fans and everyone else. Many of the major cycling brands will be present, as well as a multitude of other exhibitors who will be showing and selling everything from the best bicycles you can or can t buy, to the latest GPS devices. One of the biggest stands will be devoted to Prudential RideLondon merchandise, including this year s range of souvenir and technical clothing. Highlights of the Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show include: A chance to see behind the scenes of professional cycling Team Novo Nordisk Top training tips and advice Photo booths Watch the Tour de France live on the big screen The Cycling Show will feature a vast selection of manufacturers, international races, charities and magazines under one roof. With personal appearances at the show from top professional riders taking part in the Prudential RideLondon Classique and the Prudential RideLondon- Surrey Classic, the atmosphere generated around the event will be unparalleled. The Centre Stage will feature a full programme of informative presentations offering invaluable cycling advice, interviews with professional and celebrity riders, and a variety of entertainment. The Prudential RideLondon Cycling Show is held at ExCeL in east London (see below for travel advice). The show is expected to attract 45,000 visitors over its three days with Saturday the busiest day. GETTING TO ExCeL EXCEL, 1 WESTERN GATEWAY, ROYAL VICTORIA DOCK, LONDON E16 1XL ExCeL is connected to the Jubilee line at Canning Town via a four-minute DLR journey (Docklands Light Railway) to ExCeL s dedicated station Prince Regent Statio. ExCeL is also connected directly to the Central, Northern, Circle, District and Waterloo & City lines at Bank and the Circle and District lines at Tower Hill via the DLR. ExCeL is in London Underground Zone 3. We strongly advise that you use an Oyster card or purchase a return ticket or travelcard as ticket-purchasing facilities are limited at ExCeL. 10 PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON FREECYCLE Saturday 28 July Prudential RideLondon FreeCycle offers the chance for all the family to enjoy a traffic-free route on closed roads through central London passing some of the capital s most iconic landmarks. Everyone is welcome, no matter what their age or ability. Cyclists may cycle at any pace and as many times round the route as they like, stopping along the way to enjoy a range of free bike-based entertainment and activities at seven Festival Zones. Cyclists are encouraged to register in advance at PrudentialRideLondon.co.uk/ FreeCycle PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY 100 Sunday 29 July 25,000 amateur cyclists take on a cycling challenge like no other through London and Surrey on a similar route to that of the London 2012 Olympic road races. The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, goes out through London to Surrey s stunning country roads and hills before returning to the capital to finish in spectacular style on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON CLASSIQUE Saturday 28 July The Prudential RideLondon Classique is a UCI Women s WorldTour event, the highest ranked in the global calendar and the richest women s one-day race in cycling, offering exactly the same prize money as the men s Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic. It gives spectators the chance to see the best women s cycling teams in the world battling it out over 12 laps of a closed 5.4km circuit that starts and finishes on The Mall. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY 46 Sunday 29 July The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 was created in 2016 to give newer riders the opportunity to enter their first mass-participation cycling event and enjoy the freedom and camaraderie of Prudential RideLondon. Like the 100-mile sportive, it starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and finishes on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace. About 4,500 riders will participate in BROMPTON WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL Saturday 28 July The 13th Brompton World Championship will see more than 500 riders make a mad dash to unfold their bikes before sprinting off on two wheels to complete up to eight laps around St James s Park. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY 19 Sunday 29 July New for 2018: the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 has been created for younger and less experienced riders to enter their first cycle sportive. Starting at Sandown Park Racecourse, it follows the last 19 miles of the Classic course. Riders as young as 12 can enter (riders aged must be accompanied by an adult) and it s a great way for families to cycle together. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON HANDCYCLE GRAND PRIX Saturday 28 July Some of the world s best handcyclists will take on a circuit of St James s Park providing a thrilling end to the first day of Prudential RideLondon. PRUDENTIAL RIDELONDON-SURREY CLASSIC Sunday 29 July The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic became Britain s first men s UCI WorldTour race in 2017 and this year will feature the most WorldTour Teams ever with 17 lining up at the Start in Horse Guards Parade. The racing is over much of the same route as the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, with extended circuits of testing terrain to meet international race requirements. 11 MEDIA GUIDE 2018 FUNDRAISING FOR CHARITY The Charity of the Year for 2018 is Great Ormond Street Hospital Children s Charity (GOSH). The charity will have a team of more than 500 riders participating in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100. Great British Bake Off winner 2017 Sophie Faldo, former Olympic 400m hurdles champion Sally Gunnell OBE and broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan will all be riding for GOSH on Sunday 29 July. The total amount raised for charity by Prudential RideLondon during the first five years of the event is more than 53 million. as young as 12 can enter (riders aged must be accompanied by an adult) and it s a great way for families to cycle together. For the first time in 2018, The London Trials Championship presented by Buxton has been extended to two days. The race will start as always on The Mall before heading up Constitution Hill, turning at the top to come down and on to Birdcage Walk, then turning left into Horse Guards Parade before re-joining the Mall and heading right out through Admiralty Arch and out onto Whitehall before turning again to come back up Whitehall through Trafalgar Square, Admiralty Arch and back on to The Mall. WHAT S NEW IN 2018 The Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 19 has been created for younger and inexperienced riders to enter their first cycle sportive. Starting at Sandown Park Racecourse, it follows the last 19 miles of the 100-mile sportive. Riders The Prudential RideLondon Handcycle Grand Prix returns to St James s Park on Saturday 28 July with some of the best handcyclists in the world racing for 40 minutes on a circuit around St James s Park which starts and finishes on The Mall. 13 MEDIA GUIDE 2018 GETTING AROUND To ensure the safety of participants and spectators at the Prudential RideLondon cycling festival, there will be early morning road closures in central London on Saturday 28 July and a large number of road and river crossing closures across east, central and southwest London and parts of Surrey on Sunday 29 July. In early July, a major campaign advising residents and businesses of roads and river crossings being affected and to know their travel options in advance, got underway. This was part of an extensive public information and engagement campaign that included a leaflet drop to affected residents and businesses. Public transport, walking and cycling will be the best ways to get around London and to the events over the weekend. However, some buses will be on diversion or will finish early due to the road closures, and Tube stations close to the action will be busier than usual. Drivers are advised to plan ahead to avoid road delays over the weekend and to avoid driving in the areas near the event routes. The public is advised to plan ahead, use public transport, walk and cycle to avoid road disruption and enjoy the weekend.
