2 News You Can Use NEXT WEEK Live Oaks Spring Book Fair! Our spring book fair is the Buy One Get One sale! We need volunteers to make our spring book fair a success! Please sign up here bookfair.liveoakspta.com. THANK YOU!!! Spring Assessments Underway Our Spring NWEA Assessments in both math and reading began this week. At the end of May, grades four and five will also take a science assessment. Please help your child to get plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast to help them do their best! After School Activities Coordinator In the past year we have several more after school programs available to our students including karate, chess, and many more! The PTA is looking for an after school activity coordinator for next school year. Responsibilities include coordinating parent volunteers and setting up after school programming. Please contact Jane Mirmina janemirmina@gmail.com if interested. As a reminder, our students benefit tremendously from the efforts of our PTA. Please consider volunteering for this position. 3 Live Oaks Doing Good! LOS Kids Half Marathon UPDATE! Come get your steps in! Students in grades K-5 are completing 13.1 miles aka a half marathon! They will run, walk or wog (walk/jog) a total of 13 miles in the upcoming weeks as weather permits. On Field Day, students will complete their 0.1 and cross the finish line to complete their half marathon distance! We still need volunteers and cheerleaders to keep our runners motivated! Want to know a little more before signing up? Mrs. Etense at betense@milforded.org. Volunteer to run, walk, or wog with our students HERE. Interested in cheering your student s class on? their teacher to find out when they ll be hitting the track. Author Visit Students in grades 3-5 met with author, Melissa Stewart to learn about nonfiction writing. III

4 Live Oaks School 2017 Kids Half Marathon On your mark Get set GO! This spring, Live Oaks K-5 students will each complete a HALF MARATHON or 13.1 miles of running or walking! Students will set daily and weekly mileage goals. Over the next several weeks students will track their running and complete their final 0.1 mile at our Live Oaks Field Day in June! Every finisher will receive a Half Marathon medal and other running goodies! Help us make this event a success! We re looking for parent volunteers to run, walk, jog, or cheer us on! 5 Live Oaks has Talent! Variety Show Information Thank you to the students (and their parents!) who participated in the 2017 Live Oaks has Talent Variety Show Auditions! All students who auditioned will have a part in the Variety Show. Our panel of reviewers and I are working on a schedule for the show. We are also working on a creative way to integrate some of the acts that are similar. More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to the rehearsals which will be held beginning at 3:05 pm: May 18th May 22nd May 25th The Live Oaks has Talent Variety Show will be Friday, May 26th at 1:00 pm for our staff and students and again at 6:00 pm for families and friends. We have some amazing talent to showcase so mark your calendars and prepared for an evening of entertainment! ~Mrs. Marzinotto

6 Makerspace ~ where students can design, create, and explore new interests. Our PTA has graciously supported our program by providing us with a wide range of materials and supplies including: origami, knitting, Legos, circuits, and so much more. Students can even use Kindle Fires to find instructional videos. Our students will be in control of selecting their own activities and working on their own projects week to week. NEW for this session.dash & Dot Robotics and Coding! Activities will be self-guided, yet supervised. Space is limited to 20 children, so please reply ASAP. The four -week session will cost $ % of program fees will be reinvested in new equipment and material for future Makerspace programs.
