1 TOPS NE Oklahoma Area Newsletter- February 2016 Chatting with Kathy HEART DISEASE Heart health month is my time to share why it's important to be aware of what's going on with our heart. You see, I have an A-fib heart, and this subject is near and dear to me. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the U.S. More than cancer, more than anything else. And perhaps even more surprisingly, more women than men die of heart disease every year. Many of the same risk factors apply for women, such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and obesity, but some additional factors apply uniquely to women, including: A higher ratio of fat around the abdomen, combined with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high levels of triglycerides or high glucose levels Mental stress and depression; these factors affect women's hearts more than men's Smoking; the risk for heart disease from smoking increases more significantly in women than men Low levels of estrogen after menopause Although many women who die suddenly of heart disease have no previous symptoms, there are signs you can watch for. Unlike men, the most prominent symptom is not pain or pressure in the chest. There are likely to be symptoms in other parts of the body, accompanied by less severe chest pain. These symptoms include: Neck, shoulder, upper back or abdominal discomfort Shortness of breath Nausea or vomiting Sweating Lightheadedness/dizziness Unusual fatigue Heart attacks in particular kill six times as many women as breast cancer and are the leading causes of death in women in the United States. Women's heart attack symptoms could include: abdominal pain Difficulty breathing Unexplained fatigue If you experience any of these symptoms call 911. Get regular check-ups with your doctor and let him know of any changes. ~Taken from Integris Heart Hospital February 5th is Go Red for Women! CHAPTER GROWTH CHALLENGE 2015 Congratulations Northeast Oklahoma!!! Our area has grown. Thank you for your hard work and getting new members and a new chapter last year! Northeast Oklahoma area ROCKS!!!

My challenge is a 1-2 pound loss per week. From the time I wake up, I make the choices in my daily life on what I put in my mouth. If I eat junk, I feel like junk. I can't outwork a bad food choice. That would be like a hamster on a spinning wheel. Going nowhere. Leaders, I only want NEW poundage recorded. And send to me each quarterly. I hope to see a lot of you at IRD in Little Rock, Ark. in 2017.
4 LEADERS CORNER PATTY NEEDS TO KNOW: 1. When a member reaches his/her KOPS status - Patty needs for you to send her the following - a copy of their TOPS chart, a copy of their KOPS chart, KOPS registration form, their original Dr. goal slip and a check for $ When a KOPS changes their goal - Patty needs them to send her the same as above. 3. When a KOPS loses their status - they need to let Patty know. 4. This is not an automatic thing - Patty HAS TO BE NOTIFIED with the proper paperwork.
