They are a country music band playing anything from Alan Jackson to Jason Aldean... and don t forget a few rock favorites! They play the greater Skagit Valley area, and would love to get booked by your venue! A band of diverse talent and high performance energy. The genre is new country with a taste of classics, originals and rock numbers. Troy grew up in a family of music where he played in his parent s band as a teen. Troy learned to write songs, build a live show and create a following in his local hometown area of Skagit Valley. After a couple exciting trips to Nashville to gain experience and hone his craft, he naturally felt it was time again to form his own group and hit the live music scene. Thus - The TROY FAIR BAND! We caught up with them at Angel of the Winds Casino recently and their harmonies knocked me out of my chair! The dance floor was packed the entire night and they were humble and gracious. 4 By Gary Draper Featuring Whitney Mongé RockTheBluesNews.com While at Sea-Tac airport waiting for my flight to Las Vegas, I heard some live music that sounded very nice. I walked over to where it was coming from and stood for awhile listening. It was Seattle s own Whitney Monge performing a solo act. I bought one of her CD s she had for sale and listened to it on the plane. I really enjoyed it. Below is some interesting info about her: Seattle Alternative Soul artist, Whitney Mongé, is a street performer gone Northwest music phenom. Catching the attention of the masses with her dynamic voice and heartfelt performances, Whitney has supported national acts, Ziggy Marley, Allen Stone, Lukas Nelson & The Promise of The Real, Crystal Bowersox, and Brendan James. In 2007, she began her music journey busking in the Pike Place Market after moving from hometown, Spokane, WA. In the beginning of this quintessential stint, she was approached by filmmaker, Brian Nunes, to be a part of a documentary about street performers. For 2.5 years, Brian captured her journey from busker to professional musician. Find Your Way: a Busker s Documentary was internationally released in early 2014 and has received several independent film accolades including being selected for the 2014 CBGB Festival in NYC. This award winning film also features Grammy Award Winning violinist Joshua Bell, Pulitzer Prize winning author, Gene Weingarten, and 90 s rocker, Chris Ballew of The Presidents of the United States. Mongé s released an independent debut solo album, Heartbeat, in 2011 and then shortly after recorded an EP, Steadfast, with Grammy Award Winning producer Pete Stewart and Justin Armstrong. September 2014, she released the Steadfast EP and has received positive reviews for this young artist. Each album consists of the deep, introspective lyrics that Mongé is known for. Her raspy, sultry vocals are highly reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge and she is often compared to Tracy Chapman. She was also a part of a compilation tribute album, The Empress of the Blues: A Tribute to Bessie Smith released in 2014 by Reimagine Music. 5 JUST SING ALREADY TALENT BLOWS YOU AWAY! Written by James Blackwell After the long process of going through the auditions, Just Sing Already Season 4 began with 42 singers competing for one final night to impress the judges. This all went down on Sunday, May 1st. The ridiculous amount of talent that Seattle has to offer is unbelievable. Not only did these singers make it hard for the judges/coaches to say no but they also made the selection process of choosing their teams even harder. So after all singers sang, the Host Baron Von Hazy, whom is just as talented and energetic as the singers are the coaches then had to decide what singers they wanted to work with and coach along the process of the 6 week themed competition. It has been an incredible show of talent since the beginning. The coaches ended up choosing 6 contestants each to coach and work with. Trust me, with how much these guys are getting paid, for the coaches/ judges, it s about the gratification of knowing that they helped singers learn something new about growing and becoming a better performer on stage. It s no wonder these contestants are having a hard time with the competition. Each week, the theme is randomly chosen from sealed envelopes provided by Executive Director Catie Baron, who also does a lot of amazing hard work behind the scenes. She helps tally the scores and do everything from working lights, to taking votes from the audience, to making sure judges are taken care of. She is a dedicated worker making sure the show is a huge success. Each week the contestants never know what the theme for the following week will be until the very end of the show. The suspense makes it very unique. If you like watching singing competitions on television, you definitely don t want to miss your chance to see this show, live and in person on stage at Box House in Seattle s Historic Pioneer Square. With commentary after each performance from the coaches, letting singers know what they can work on, Joshua Baron (also Executive Producer this season), Michael Cagle (Co- Creator), Konomi Rivers, and Eric Blu Martin, are all giving amazing advice and helping the singers to grow in so many different ways. Of course this all leading up to the big finale on Sunday June 19th, where only the TOP MALE and TOP FEMALE will be moving on to represent Washington State in the Karaoke World Championship National Finals, which this year just so happens to be right here in Seattle, being held at the Box House as well. The 2nd Top Male & Female will be moving on to compete in the KWCUSA WA STATE FI- NALS. So lots of amazing talent onstage in one fun evening. It is by far the best $5 cover you could ever spend and truth be told, as popular as this show has become, I foresee it growing even bigger for their 5th Season! It s gonna be epic! So get off your lazy butt on a Sunday Funday and go on down to Box House (124 S. Washington St. Seattle, WA 98104) in Pioneer Square to Experiance a show unlike any other that Seattle has to offer. Truly, an amazing experience awaits you! You, as an audience member, get to vote for your favorite singer which I think is really awesome. You get to help support the singer you think is the best and deserves the win! It s just like that TV show that just went off the air after 15 years. Seriously though, you won t be disappointed. 10 MONDAYS GOT YOU DOWN? By Aubrey Beaudin Mondays are usually dreaded. Back to the daily grind, waiting for the weekend to come once more. They don t have to be dreaded, though - not if you enjoy trivia! I decided to check out Monday night trivia at Crazy Moose Casino, in Mountlake Terrace, WA, being invited by a friend who sometimes plays with a group there. If you ve played trivia before, you already know the basics. The layout usually differs from place to place (or host to host), but essentially it s the same - different rounds, score the points, announce the winners. Here, you are given a booklet style paper with five rounds, each themed. Some examples from my evening were Mexican food and Animals. The last two rounds are visual and audio, and if you are willing to take three points from your score, you can get a cheat sheet for the visual portion with the answers in no particular order. Our visual happened to be FONTS, and yes, we used a cheat sheet. The audio round is themed, and our theme was fighting songs. The audio is quite loud, but asking to repeat a song clip is allowed at the end of the round. There is also a raffle during trivia, with three winners, first winner first pick! Trivia was hosted by the lovely and very friendly Amber Barbee, Marketing Director for a local company called Outloud Entertainment. They host trivia, bingo, and karaoke all over the area, and also do events such as weddings ( Amber has been hosting here for a couple of years, and says she loves it, especially helping make Mondays a little more exciting for people. She has three or four regular groups, one participant telling me Amber was The best trivia host ever!. I will say, I had a lot of fun that night, and I intend to play again next time I m able. Did I mention the best part? Trivia is free! Not only free, but if you place, your team wins money. Win/win, if you ask me! Crazy Moose Trivia is at 7:30pm, Monday nights, at the Crazy Moose Casino (right off the 220th exit, in Mountlake Terrace). Trivia takes place in the bar,so head on in and play! I have to say thanks to Whitney, our awesome server, who gave my Shirley Temple two cherries. While I didn t order from the menu, they have a large and varied one, and the food my teammates ordered looked good. 11 Legend s Raises Cash! During the month of April Legend s at Denny s along with LP Entertainment held a fund raiser benefiting House of Matthews, whose goal is to help the homless fight homelessness. They had live music and lots going on. The turn out was about 60 folks and they raised enough money to provide lunches for those attending the Homeward Bound Program. We d like to send out a special thanks to Marie Nimke for helping to put on and support such a worthy cause, along with Legend s and all those who participated to make this a successful event.
