2 By Gary Draper RockTheBlues.com I ve seen Jessica Lynne on stage and she puts a lot of heart & soul into her performances and has great stage presence. A true talent! Below is some info about her from her website: Sometimes authentic country music artists do not grow up in what we would consider hotbeds of country music. Sometimes they grow up in Haslev, Denmark, the native town of current Seattle resident, Jessica Lynne, a rising country star and one of London Tone Music s most successful artists. She says: When I was 12, I was home with the flu and our TV provider had a chance channel available. Well, this time it was CMT and being at home with nothing to do and feeling really horrible, I just kind of left it on that channel and little by little just fell in love with the genre. Faith Hill Wild One, a song that was #1 & inspired her immediately. I felt like she was singing about me. Making the move from Haslev to Seattle a few years ago was not as strange a transition as it seems. Her Dad and his family live in Seattle. Jessica felt that being surrounded by a supportive network of family would be the kind of positive energy she needed to adjust. Jessica wasted no time adjusting to both the physical landscape, which had many elements similar to Denmark, but also the musical realm. Her skills, combined with her drive, focus, warmth and friendliness, made her an instant favorite with the country music promoters and clubs in the greater Seattle area. In 2011 Jessica released Spiritual Cowgirl, a four-song collection her growing fan base loved. She followed that up in 2013 with Mississippi in July and an award-winning video of the song recorded at Seattle s Columbia City Theater with her band, The Cousins also began an amazing journey for Jessica with a local audition for the Texaco Country Showdown. After winning a series of additional state match-ups, Jessica landed the top spot as the Washington State Winner. She was chosen to fly to Nashville to audition for The Voice. On February 24, 2014, Jessica released her first single for London Tone Music, Calling Me Home, as part of their label launch. Produced by Geoff Ott at London Bridge Studio, it s a song inspired by how comfortable she feels in the Pacific Northwest. Following up on the heels of that success is her second single, My My My, an inspiring, empowering track about following your dreams. There s a girl inside you and she s longing to be free. I know what it feels like cause she s still inside of me. A pro at engaging her growing legions of admirers, she asked her fans to choose her next single. She put up three very different songs and every day she looked at the stats, they were different the songs were neck and neck. At the end they were only apart by a few votes, but My My My was the winner. I know a lot of girls and women have told me it s like I took their thoughts and put them into a song I believe that s why this song won. Since signing to London Tone Music, Jessica s life has been a whirlwind of activity and it s not stopping anytime soon. 3 By Rocky & Kristine Fields Rocky & Kristine s KARAOKE CORNER TIME IS A PRECIOUS THING FOR ALL Hi there. Last month we brought you our featured cover story about Jami Morton. If you saw the photo and the article you know exactly who we re referring to. She was the beautiful, although tragically sick young lady of just 38 years who only wished for one last thing before she left this earth for good. She had long suffered with diabetes since childhood and it got the best of her. She had lost several fingers as well as both legs below her knees. She was a trouper though. She gathered her strength and her family and friends gathered around her. She didn t want a fancy trip to somewhere exotic, or to meet her favorite celebrity. She didn t wish for anything fancy really. Jami just wanted a party. She called it her Celebration of Life and thanks to her family, friends and karaoke host and DJ Kurt Johnson, by God they made it happen for her. With her sisters and children by her side, along with many other relatives and friends, Jami sang her heart out at her sister s home. One last time they all got to enjoy each other s company, hear Jami s beautiful voice, share smiles and hugs and, of course, stories with laughter and fondness. Jami lost her battle not long after her party. She was surrounded by her family and was at peace knowing that she had the opportunity to celebrate her life and loves this one last time. Jami lost her battle with diabetes, in late July 2016, to complication at the young age of 38. She was surrounded by her family and slipped away peacefully in the knowledge that she was loved and that her children would be cared for by her family. She celebrated her life one last time (see story to the left) with the gift of music and song. She was so loved. Until we see you again. 4 Just Sing Already Impresses Audiences Story & Photos By: James Blackwell Season 4 of what is now being tainer. Watching each one grow called Seattle s most unique from week to week was probably singing competition was a huge the most entertaining thing success. Producer Ryan Hazy of the whole season. But in all pulled out all the stops this season, honesty, the talent that we saw adding a 4th coach/judge this season was incredible. Box to the panel, as well as adding House in Pioneer Square was new themes to make the competition home to Season 4 of Just Sing more eclectic. Box House Already! There were a lot of 45 people who auditioned. 36 of prizes to be had this season. Not them were chosen to move on only did the top male and top to the selection process where female win $500 cash each, but the coaches then picked their they also got $400 in studio recording teams of 6 singers each. They time with Seattle Sound had 24 singers for 5 weeks. On Productions, a local company week 6, they narrowed it down owned by James Flaherty and to the top 16. Congratulations to Tess Corrigan, who won the top female, And to Gabriel Much, who won the top male spot in Season 4 of Just Sing Already! Both showed exuberant talent all season long and deserved to be up there. There were also a few surprise prizes given out to the 2nd & 3rd place male and females. They will also be moving on the WA State Final for the KW- CUSA! Congratulations to all of them, Carina Wells, Mallory Cabiling, Anders Marshall, and Blake Sterling. All 4 of them showed incredible talent throughout the competition and it was not easy for the judges. At the Finale they had two special guest judges. One was the current president of the Karaoke World Championships for North America, Whitney John-Stuart who gave excellent critiques on how they can better themselves and get ready for the KWCU- SA finals. It was a huge treat to have him there. As well as the owner of Seattle Sound Productions and local karaoke host in Browns Point, James Flaherty of DJ Jimi Karaoke. The coaches this season were incredible. 5 No Place Like Home! By Aubrey Beaudin HEARTFELT THANKS FROM LEGENDS AT DENNY S & FRIENDS Thank you from the bottom of family and friends of Keeshuwn Christensen s heart for helping lay this young man to rest with your donations and support. The family was able to hold services and is very grateful to the community. He was the grandson of Donna Prather, who supports karaoke and all events at Legend s Denny s. Having recently returned from a trip to Los Angeles, I ve come to realize something. When it comes to karaoke, there really is no place like home. Before our trip to visit friends, I attempted some research on karaoke in the L.A. area. My fiance and I were going for a week, meaning we would miss our Wednesday karaoke night. While it might not seem like such a big deal to some, missing out once in awhile, it s important to me. I knew it might feel foreign singing karaoke in unfamiliar surroundings, but I was determined to try. Unfortunately, my findings weren t to my liking. Naturally, L.A. has a different feel than Seattle - the entire Pacific Northwest, really. Looking on sites like Yelp, the few bars I found with karaoke seemed either upscale or dangerous. Mostly what I found were karaoke studios, or private venues. It didn t help when the friend we were staying with told me there were some exclusive karaoke bars such as one owned by Clay Aiken (who apparently likes to sing the opening and closing songs), and one where Michael Buble shows up and sings (who would want to follow that??). I m trying not to be judgmental here, but it seems like the atmosphere in L.A. is a little more shallow, than say, dive bars in Everett where average people sing karaoke. Maybe it s the celebrity factor, the potential that you could get discovered, or maybe they just have other things to do for fun. L.A. was probably not the place to visit hoping for a karaoke fix. I m thinking a small town in Idaho might have better options; I would feel more comfortable singing there, hands down. Missing my Wednesday (and sometimes Monday) karaoke made returning the next week that much better, especially knowing we might have one thing L.A. does not - a genuine karaoke family/community. I could be dead wrong. Perhaps there is a secret, average-people karaoke community that I couldn t find. Maybe I just didn t look hard enough. Maybe I didn t have the right connections. Either way, I can t reinforce enough that when it comes to karaoke, there is no place like home. 5

They had Joshua Baron, current WA State Director for the KWCUSA WA State, who is in charge of making sure the best singers from our state are found for the finals. He is also co-founder of Absolute Karaoke, currently voted as Seattle s best karaoke with a library of over 125,000 songs. Working behind the scenes all season long, making sure the line-up was correct for each week, that the contestants turned in their song choices, the scores were tallied, the songs were not duplicated, assisting with lighting, set-up and tear down, each and every week, was the incredibly talented Catie Baron, wife of Joshua Baron. She worked magic this season! And let us not forget the other two coaches this Season, brand new to the panel, with the voice unlike any other was the incredible Konomi Rivers, whom has competed in many karaoke contests.
