2 Beyond the Glass 2 June 2008 From the President Isn't it great to see the Corvettes out on the road again! Whether it s a car show, dinner cruise, or just a joy ride, it is hard to beat takin' the 'Vette out for a ride! The season is off to a great start, with several successful events already in the history books. Thanks to all who helped out and participated in the Spring road ditch clean up, Vinton Braille School Cruise, practice autocross at Hawkeye Downs, Crusin' for Camp Courageous and other events. We had a great turn out for Camp Courageous, with over 40 cars registered for the Cedar Rapids Corvette Club. It was a cool, sunny and just plain nice day to be at Camp Courageous, and to support one of our fine Charities. Whether you entered your Corvette in the car show, won something at the silent auction, or at the live auction, or if you just enjoyed the great outdoors, it was a great day at Camp Courageous! The Volkswagen Club showed up with a substantial numbers of vehicles, and gave us a challenge this year at Camp Courageous. However, in the end, the CRCC won the Participation Award, and outnumbered the VW Club by 14.5 vehicles (according to the announcer)! I'm not sure which VW counted as ½ of a car!! We donated the $150 participation award back to Camp Courageous, to use for their needs. Our 2007 Homecoming Director, Dick Butschi, also presented Camp Courageous with a donation of $1225, which was raised from proceeds from our 2007 homecoming parades. Lyle Knutson Congratulations to all car show award winners at Camp Courageous!! If my count is correct, CRCC won 8 awards, including all three awards for the C4 class. Thanks to everyone for their participation in this great spring event!! Our new Social Director, Linda Bonar, has out of town dinner cruises lined up for June, July and August. See the calendar for more details, for each event. There are lots of things going on, so be sure to keep tabs on the calendar, website, and your . Our annual "Crusin-the-Ave" Charity Car Show is Saturday, June 14, at Lindale Mall. Our Car Show Team has been very busy with all the plans and details, to pull off another great event. They have lots of prizes lined up, so register your car, and plan to come to Lindale Mall to support our biggest fund raiser for the year. Our June meeting will be at St. Elizabeth's Church, Thursday, June 19. Our July meeting will be at Pat McGrath Chevyland, so mark your calendar for Thursday, July 17. Guests are always welcome! Drive safely, and let's make it a great year! Lyle Important Announcement On behalf of the CRCC Executive Board, I am pleased to announce that John Needelman has volunteered to fill the position of Webmaster for the remainder of 2008! I am very happy that John has volunteered to take on this responsibility for CRCC. Please provide your support to John as he takes over this important duty for CRCC. Please join me and the E-board in saying a big "THANK YOU" to John, for his willingness to take on this important position for CRCC! He likes riding in the back window with his front paws on the center console. That way when his owner passes people on the interstate it looks like he s the one driving. Do you have a pet that you like to take with you on your adventures? Send your pictures in... Cosmo Technical Tips by Katrina This Month: Keeping Your Corvette Spotless I really like to get the most use out of my car when the weather is nice. Unfortunately the more you use it the more you have to wash it. Here is what works for me for keeping my Corvette cleaner longer: Katrina s tips: Pretreat front bumpers and rocker panels with bug and tar remover Pretreat wheels with wheel cleaner Rinse car and use sponge to scrub, hit pretreated areas a second time if necessary Rinse Wipe areas around window with standard drying towels Use a squeegee to clear water from glass reduces streaking and gives clean look Use standard towels to get excess moisture off the rest of the car Use microfiber towels to finish drying the car this eliminates spots Wax. I really like the ice wax it doesn t affect the black plastic like normal wax does Once it is nice and clean I recommend dusting the car daily and covering especially if kept outside
