1 From the President... How many times over the years have you heard... after we celebrate the 4 th of July it s like summer is over? Well I disagree. It s like an incentive to get the Corvettes out even more often and get cruising down the road! Several of us participated in the Wall of Fame night last Friday (7/24). We had a chance to meet Austin Petty as he flew in from North Carolina to accept the honor for his late brother Adam for being an inductee into the 2015 Hawkeye Downs Wall of Fame. Get ready (again) for the 3 rd Annual CRCC BBQ competition/potluck picnic scheduled for Saturday, August 1 st. Unfortunately we listened to (and believed) the weather forecast for July 11 th. The decision had to be made Friday morning as the smokers were getting ready to prepare the meat for smoking. As we move closer to the start of the school year, Brian already has several schools signed up for their homecoming parades. You can sign up now. So many of you have driven in the parades over the years and I am thanking you in advance to help Brian out every chance you get. I m sure there will be a few dates that will require a large number of drivers in one night. These homecoming parades help us donate to Camp Courageous and besides, don t you like to hear the kids yelling, I love your car and can I have your car! Be sure to check the calendar of events on Page 4 and continue to check the CRCC website as Larry keeps that updated as new events come in. You don t want to miss out on our dinner cruise to Phat Daddy s in Amana, the NCCC Convention in Pocono Mountains and Vettes on the River in LeClaire to mention a few events scheduled in August. I know a lot of you will be there, but you will have plenty of time to get to the BBQ to eat about 6:00 PM. 2 Cedar Rapids Corvette Club July 16, 2015 Lori Brendes, Secretary President Al Willenborg called the meeting to order at 7:01 PM. He welcomed and thanked members for coming to the July meeting. There were 37 members present. We had 3 guests in attendance: Tom Ziruba and Kenny Benhart from Oxford Junction and Del Winter. Gary and Elaine Thompson were voted in as members. They have a 2013 ZO 6 Blade Silver Coupe. Labor Day Car Show on Sept. 5 in Oxford Junction called Rockin in the Park. Show n Shine from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. There will be a dance at the Legionnaire Ballroom from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM for $7. President Al Willenborg read the list of members celebrating birthdays and anniversaries during the month of July. Good and Wellness: President Al Willenborg thanked all the members for cooperating with Hawkeye Downs in previous events. CRCC members get free admission to all Hawkeye Downs sponsored races by showing a corvette membership card. Received a thank you note from the Fritz/McCarty family for our thoughts and prayers for the death of Rebecca McCarty. Wall of Fame at Hawkeye Downs is July 24 th. Kirk Draper bought a new canopy for the tent we used at the car show. He donated it to the club. President Al Willenborg thanked him for his donation. President Al Willenborg thanked all members that were in the Freedom Fest Parade and those who participated in the 4 th of July Car Show. New Arrivals: Kevin and Marie Lynch had twin grandsons. President Al Willenborg thanked Jim McLaughlin for setting up the July dinner at Bulicek s in Delhi. We had 32 members in attendance. We got to see the owner of Bulicek s 1957 corvette. Approval of Secretary s Report President Al Willenborg asked for any corrections or additions to the minutes of the June 2015 meeting. There were no corrections or additions to the meeting minutes. President Al Willenborg called for a motion to approve the May 2015 meeting minutes. A motion was made by Tracy Rudd and was seconded by Larry Beebe to approve the June 2015 meeting minutes. The motion passed. Approval of Treasurer s Report President Al Willenborg called for a motion to approve the July 2015 financial report as presented. A motion was made by Jim McLaughlin and was seconded by John Watertor to approve the July financial report as presented. The motion passed. Vice President Chris Thompson was not in attendance. No report. Webmaster Larry Bushaw had no report. Secretary Lori Brendes reported that she sent get-well cards to Kathie Adams, Chuck and Kim Buckingham regarding their daughter s recent heart surgery, Terry Primrose, and Justin Roberts. A sympathy card was sent to former members Rusty and Pat Fritz for the death of their daughter, Rebecca McCarty. Social Director Jim McLaughlin shared that the 3 rd Annual CRCC BBQ will be on Saturday, August 1 st at the Midway Park in Midway. Please bring a side dish/dessert to share. You will also need to bring your own table settings and bag chairs. We will eat at 6:00 PM. August 2015 Beyond the Glass 2 The August CRCC monthly dinner will be Tuesday, August 11 th. We will be going to Phat Daddy s in Amana. We will leave the Target on Edgewood Rd. at 5:30. Competition Director Chris Beebe was not in attendance. Larry Beebe reported our autocross practice is on Saturday, July 18 th. Saturday, July 25 th will be our autocross with 7 events. We need help setting up the day

3 of the autocross. We also are in need of two camera tripods. Members responded to the need. Homecoming Director Brian Richardson was not in attendance. There are 7 schools signed up so far. Editor Kathy Willenborg reported she would need information for the newsletter by Wednesday, July 22th. Kathy wants pictures from the car show or vacations, and would also like to do a short article on you telling about your volunteering or something you might be involved in. She thanked everyone for their continued support of the Catherine McAuley Center with donations of toiletries. Historian Tracy Rudd no report. Messenger Bob Bowen asked members to make sure to let him know of any changes made in addresses. Also, be sure to check s regularly. Trustee Dave Marsden shared that the trustees completed the audit of the finances. Co-chair of the Car Show Dick Butschi shared that August 1 st is the ADM Car Show at Vets Memorial Stadium. We have been helping them get their first car show off the ground. They are asking for our help the day of the show. There will be 20 car classes and 5 motorcycle classes. Old Business Diane Bowen asked for a donation for the scholarship fund. We have 5 or 6 kids that have applied for scholarships. A motion was made by John Watertor and seconded by George Letson to approve giving $300 to the scholarship fund. Motion carried. New Business Christmas Party will have an ugly sweater contest. We have two tablets to give away. We will also have two speakers share their experience touring in a 1929 Ford Model A Phaeton in the 10,000 mile Paris to Peking Rally. Swamp Fox Parade in Marion on September 26 th. Car Show in Thomas Park on Sunday, September 27 th. The Trustees are working on rewording the standing rules. The 50/50 drawing winner was Garland Groom. President Al Willenborg called for a motion to adjourn the meeting. A motion was made by Jim McLaughlin and seconded by Bob Bowen to adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 7:49 PM. The next CRCC monthly meeting will be Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Pat McGrath Chevyland. 6 New CRCC Members Jim McLaughlin put together a small questionnaire to help the club members learn more about our new and current CRCC members. This will be a good way to get acquainted, so take time to introduce yourself as well. Kathy Back Darrell Hatchel Darrell was a member a few years ago and has decided to rejoin CRCC. Before Tracy could take his picture as a returning member, Darrell went and had a great day at the University of Iowa car show on July 11 th. You guessed it, one was the Hayden Fry trophy and the other was Best in Class! Congratulations, Darrell! Welcome to Gary and Elaine Thompson. They live in Hiawatha and have a married son Terry that lives in town and a married daughter living in Santa Rosa, California. They have four grandchildren. Gary is now retired after working at Rockwell for 45+ years. They just purchased their first Corvette... a 2015 Blade Silver Z06!! When asked what their best Corvette experience has been, the answer was, can t stop smiling! Even if money was no object, they would still drive a Corvette, because it s fun! The one thing they would like to say to all the CRCC members is, for first time Corvette owners, we have a lot to learn about Corvettes.
