1 From the President The calendar says that it is now Autumn; where did the summer go? Our Corvette driving season is slipping away fast, so I hope that you have plans to get the Vette out and enjoy some of Iowa s finest scenery during this autumn season. A big Thank You to Homecoming Director Bob Baker, and to everyone that signed up to help with our homecoming parades this year. All of the parades have been filled out with drivers and alternates for each school. Cedar Rapids Washington has asked us to carry their homecoming king & queen candidates in their homecoming parade this year, so that is a great new addition to our schedule. We look forward to working with them in future years as well. Your help as a driver/alternate is appreciated, and the students really enjoy the Corvette rides on their special day. Now lets hope for great weather for all of the parades! We also owe special thanks to Competition Director Chris Beebe, Larry Beebe, and to all who helped with our CRCC - NCCC Sanctioned Autocross Weekend at Hawkeye Downs Speedway, August 29 & 30. CRCC hosted drivers from all around the West Region, and there were many nice comments from the drivers and spectators about the well organized and well run events. It was a terrific weekend, and our Club can be very proud of this fine autocross event. I always look forward to the annual fall Leaf Run. 3 The Fall Leaf Run will be on Sunday October 18. We will meet at the Marion Hardees at 9:00 AM. If you are planning to go, please send me your name, passengers name, and your cell phone number. I would like to hand a list out before we go, as I'm sure several folks, including me, will not have a CB. I have begun planning the route. I have a destination in mind that will have a breathtaking view, unfortunately the final 1 mile up the private drive is gravel. I hope that doesn't deter anyone from going, since it is a private drive, the speed limit will be "very slow". I have a restaurant in mind for lunch, however I have not contacted them yet. They have very good American/Italian cuisine (especially pizza). I know they can accommodate us, I will just need to give them an approximate head count. Please contact me via or phone (319) cell. I am expecting to return to CR about 5:00 pm. There should be plenty of "photo ops" so bring your camera and hope/pray for a beautiful day. Thank you, Scott Morgan sjmorgan@rockwellcollins.com Nomination of Officers for Cedar Rapids Corvette Club It is not too soon to be thinking about officers for next year. At the November 19 general meeting, we will receive nominations for officers for After the meeting, our Secretary mails out ballots to our entire membership, for a secret ballot vote for the new officers for next year. The ballots are returned by US mail, and then counted by the Trustees. At the Christmas Party on Saturday, December 12, the Trustees will announce the new officers for CRCC for Please see the list of the current officers, published in this Newsletter. As is the case for every year, all offices for 2010 are open for nominations, except for two trustee positions that carry over. The Trustees have three year terms, that expire in alternating years, so there will be one open Trustee position to be filled. A few notes about being an officer for CRCC: 1) This is a great Club, with a lot of great, caring, and helpful people. 2) Being an Officer takes some time, but it is NOT a 24/7 job; we know & expect that people have other responsibilities, jobs and lives 3) It is not necessary to be at all activities there are others who will gladly help out. 4) Some things can be delegated others are willing to pitch in & help you. Past officers are a great resource for ideas and information, and they are always willing to help in the transition. We need a full slate of officers so that the Club functions as it should, to provide the many great activities, events, charitable works, and services that our members enjoy. Please consider running for one of the officer positions. It is a great experience, and you will have a lot of fun. This is a great way to learn a lot about all the aspects of CRCC, and to get to know our members. Let Lyle or one of the other officers know if you have any questions about a particular position, and if you are interested in running for an office. We appreciate your efforts to keep CRCC moving forward smoothly into the new year! -Lyle Knutson

7 Four Cedar Rapids Corvettes head to the Black Hills Corvette Classic July 2009 Dave & Dawn Marsden, Paul & Jan Hildebrand, Chris & Linda Damewood and Gary & Carol Cummings met at John s Truck Stop in Urbana IA on Wednesday July 15 th ready to head to South Dakota. First stop was you got it Breakfast at Junies Truck Stop at Elk Run Heights, Waterloo. The food was great and the waitress loved our cars. Wednesday nite we checked into the Ramkota Inn in Sioux Falls, SD, and headed downtown for Hot Summer Nights. As we were checking out about 6 blocks of Corvettes, we heard quite a few police sirens. Coming down the middle of the street amidst all the Corvettes, we saw two rows of police motorcycles followed by approximately 300 Harleys. They parked in the middle of the Corvettes and joined the party. What a sight! Thursday 7/16 Joining 400 Corvettes on I-90 headed west toward Spearfish, was a real high. Everywhere you looked, every exit, every rest stop there were Corvettes everywhere. We pulled off in Mitchell for breakfast at the Country Kitchen, and then drove past the Corn Palace. They were in the process of decorating the building, so we stopped and watched for awhile. While there, several girls from the Chamber of Commerce came out and asked if they could take pictures of our cars. We not only let them take pictures, but let them sit in the cars for the pictures. They said we made their day. They were so excited. We saw our first Wall Drug sign when we were 344 miles from Wall, SD on Wednesday. Did you know that from that point on to Wall SD, there are at least 90 Wall Drug signs? They are everywhere. We drove thru the Badlands on our way to Spearfish. We checked into the Howard Johnsons, and then headed for Deadwood for dinner. Friday 7/17 We were off for a drive in the Black Hills. Spearfish Canyon can t be beat. Especially with all the Corvettes on the road. The Corvette Wave takes on a new meaning when you are in the Black Hills during the Black Hills Corvette Classic. It s easier to just hold up your hand rather than the up and down motion with waving. You are constantly meeting Corvettes. We began to wonder if there were any other cars allowed in the Black Hills during this Corvette event. Saturday 7/18 We headed out first thing in the morning for Devils Tower, then headed south thru Wyoming to the Dinosaur digs in Hot Springs. We found a little used county road, where you could see for miles. No crossroads no driveways no houses guess you know what happened then mph registered on Paul s GPS. Wow!!! We checked into the Super 8 in Keystone and went to Mount Rushmore for the evening lighting ceremony. After the lights came up on the presidents, the park rangers invited all veterans, and active duty military personnel onto the stage. Since Paul was a veteran, he was up on stage and introduced to the crowd. We were sure proud! While in Keystone, we ate dinner at the best restaurant we had found on the trip, and breakfast at the very worst. Sunday 7/19 Unfortunately all good trips must come to an end. We loaded up and headed east. After looking back at the mountains, we again decided to count the Wall Drug Signs from Rapid City to Wall. I think there were somewhere around 50 signs submitted by Carol Cummings
