3 Attention students and staff,diabetes is a condition in which one has high levels of glucose or sugar in the blood. This results when the cells of the body do not respond properly to the insulin or when the body is not producing enough insulin. There are 2 types of Diabetes, and type 2 is the more common one out of the two. Too much sugar, lack of exercise, and being overweight are all factors that can cause type 2 diabetes.

4 We need to make each other aware of how serious this condition is. Throughout the week there will be fun activities that you can participate in, such as: making a pledge on a ribbon, stretching before going to every period, and taking a lap around the gym to earn an awareness wristband. Join for ideas on how to prevent getting type 2 diabetes.

5 There are almost 30 million slaves in the world today. Vulnerable people are lured by the promise of jobs and end up finding themselves working really long hours in horrible conditions and not getting paid. If you want to make a difference and spread the word about human trafficking, come join us today in room c101 during STEP. Thank you

6 To all students We need volunteers for International Night. It will be a night of sharing and learning. We are looking for students who would like to present some aspect of a culture in which they are involved. Performances, food and information are welcome all the same! Earn SSL hours for volunteering. For more details about International Night see Mr. Wu in C009 any time this week

7 The SADD organization will be accepting nominations for Mr. Watkins Mill contestants all week in the mixing bowl. Let us know what senior guys you think should be in the show! Nominations are 10 cents each. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Tyler. And now for some Career Center news!

8 Attention class of 2018! There will be a class meeting today in the auditorium during STEP! Come to the meeting, get involved, and help us plan for a great year.

9 Seniors: Watkins Mill be hosting an on the spot admissions event on December 11 for the following colleges: the University of Baltimore, Frostburg, Morgan State, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Lincoln University and Shippensburg University. Interested students can sign up beginning today. This is a free event. There is no fee for applications, transcripts or sending test scores. Stop by the College/Career Center for more info.

11 Congratulations to Two of our seniors, Kathryn Bratt-Pfotenhauer and Sandra Bazubwabo, they have been selected to serve as Pages for the Maryland General Assembly! They will serve for 2 nonconsecutive weeks in the spring in Annapolis.Only 14 students across the county get this opportunity, and we have two of them. Go Rines!

12 Join us on the Spirit Bus for the Annual OLAS Dance Competition on Monday, November 23rd. Tickets are being sold in the mixing bowl during STEP. Please stop by the main office to pick up a permission slip to ride the Spirit Bus which is free! It s first come, first served until the bus is full.

13 Have you watched the marching band at halftime and noticed those spinning flags? Wanted to try it yourself? Then join guard! There will be an information meeting for the next season is today, November 12th at lunch in the band room. Can't make the meeting? Then stop by the band room and give your contact information to Mr. Kielar. Hope to see you there!

14 Attention students interested in competing this indoor season. Forms and uniform money was due last Friday. If you still need to turn in any paperwork or uniform money, it's not too late. Please see Coach Adams in room C104 for forms and any questions you may have about the upcoming season. And also, the first day of practice is this Saturday November 14 at 10am on the track. There will also be a parents meeting this Saturdays before practice at 9:30 am. Please mark your calendar with the upcoming events.

15 Attention all students interested in playing Bocci Ball this Winter! The interest meeting has been rescheduled to tomorrow, November 13th, during STEP in room B203. All are welcome. If you have any questions please see Mrs. Mitchell or Mrs. Steif Hope to see you there!

16 If you are interested in joining the Swim and Dive team, please come to room B102 for the important paperwork. Practices start next week. You cannot come to practice unless all of your paperwork is complete! If you have completed the paperwork, turn it in to B102. Any questions, see a Swim team captain or Ms. Squier See you there!!!

17 The cheer team has a competition at Montgomery Blair high school at 9:30 am on November 14 th. come out and support!! More information will be announced today at the mixing bowl during step.

18 Tomorrow November 13 th, The Varsity football team faces off against Wheaton High school at 7:00 pm. Come out and support our Rines!!!!
