2 P A G E 2 Lancashire Life The Salamanca Eagle In 2017 the magazine, Lancashire Life will celebrate its 70th birthday. To mark this momentous occasion, Lancashire Life will show 70 objects from heritage venues across Lancashire s County Palatine between September and November In January the Lancashire Infantry Museum ran a poll on Facebook and in the museum where visitors could vote on their favourite object. Eight objects were originally chosen. These were; the Maida Tortoise, the Salamanca Eagle, the red flag from Kimberley, Lieutenant Ashcroft s signaling equipment from D-Day, Nor Iron Bars, a section of the Berlin Wall, Stanley Bewsher s Brodie Helmet and William Ratcliffe VC s machine gun. Visitors chose the Salamanca Eagle as their favourite object. It has now been put forward as the museums entry into A History of Lancashire in 70 Objects. Watch this space to see if it has been chosen! 2nd Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, 1914 to 1916 East Africa Photograph Album Recently Donated Recently donated to the museum is a wonderful collection of photographs relating to the 2nd Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire s time in East Africa during WW1. If you would like to view the album or see our wonderful archive, please contact the Curator curator@lancashireinfantrymuseum.org.uk to make an appointment. Farewell Hayley! After many years of volunteering at the museum, Hayley Du Buisson, has moved on to pastures new. Hayley is now working at Derby Local Studies and Family History Library putting everything she learnt here to good use, this time helping families of men who served with the Sherwood Foresters! For four years, Hayley did the excellent job of editing the newsletter. We wish her the best of luck and thank her for all the work she did for the Lancashire Infantry Museum. Your help and support was much appreciated. Hayley (centre) with Lynn and Roger Turp
