A team of 24 students will be representing Boyanup and we wish them good luck. Other schools competing are Allanson, Brunswick Junction, Darkan, Djidi Djidi, River Valley, Wilson Park and Yarloop Primary School. Families are very welcome to attend the carnival and support our students. GO BOYANUP!!! School Contributions and Charges Thank you to those families who have come into the school throughout the year and organised payment for their children s school contributions (fees). It is important for families to support the school by paying their school contributions, even though voluntary, it helps the school to provide the necessary resources for our children to be successful with their learning. School Contributions can be paid at the front office by cash, cheque or EFTPOS. All visitors to the school should be parking in the visitor s car park along Thomas Street. Only staff should be parking in the staff car park. It has also come to my attention that visitors are parking in the Disabled Bay. The staff car park and in particular the Disabled Bay are not to be used as a quick drop off. We all need to be vigilant regarding the safety of our children and to ensure traffic congestion is kept at a minimum. Thank you for your cooperation. Lost Property There has been a lot of lost property left around the school grounds particularly hats, jumpers, canteen lunch wallets and lunch boxes. While we endeavour to return identifiable items to students, we are finding a lot of items that have no names clearly marked on them. We are encouraging all students to be more responsible of their belongings. Justin Grasso Principal Page 1

2 Year 6 Camp Last Thursday the Year 6 class headed to the Camp School for the annual Year 6 camp. We did a number of exciting activities such as mountain biking, going to the sand dunes, canoeing, doing the Valley of the Giants tree top walk, a boat tour and some more mountain biking. On the first night we played some fun indoor games like Killer Wink and Murder in the Dark. The next two nights we played spotlight and had a great time. The sand dunes were very fun and one of them was extremely tall. The wind was very fierce causing the sand to sting our legs. The sand got annoying but it was worth it all at the end. It was pure torture getting up the big sand dune. When we got to the top though (after about 5 minutes of climbing) it was worth it even though we would go straight down again! But you must go up to come back down. Some ramps were made of jumps that failed miserably! We had a good laugh and couldn t wait to get the sand out of our hair. The canoeing was very entertaining with a capsized canoe making it even better. The canoes held three people maximum. Many canoes (the boy s ones) connected to each other forming a worm-like line. The tree top walk was very high at a whopping 40 metres! The ancient empire walk had lots of trees with holes in the bottoms and we took photos. The WOW boat tour was exceptionally fun with a snake encounter and a whale sighting. We had a drink and some cake and learnt how to say Island of the Black Snake in a few other languages. Many of us enjoyed the mountain biking and wished to do more. We did a few fun trails and some other things. The Year 6 camp for 2017 was an incredible and unforgettable experience for everyone and we would like to thank all who helped make it possible, especially Mr Wilson, Linda and Mrs Roberts. 3 Year 6 Camp Quilters Lunch Fundraiser On Sunday 22nd October the P&C catered for a regional meeting of the Southern Country Quilters Association. 112 ladies attended from as far North as Jarrahdale, East to Narrogin and South to Dunsborough. We all came together to chat, sew and shop at the 4 shops invited to attend the event. They all expressed delight at the amount and variety of food available on the day. A huge thank you to our school families, who either donated food, helped out in the kitchen or leant a hand with packing up the hall! You all did a magnificent job! Our P&C have benefited from the money earnt which will be put to good use around the school. All profits taken by the Quilters Association (after costs) will be donated equally to the Boyanup Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade and the Boyanup Volunteer Ambulance. Marion Lewis (Event Organiser) On behalf of the P&C we would like to sincerely thank all our school families for their donations of food and help at this event! The money that is raised from these events benefits all the children at the school by providing funding for items such as sporting equipment, shade sails, library items, games etc. Page 3

4 Incursion Heave Ho, Off We Go On Wednesday the 25 th October, all students were lucky to have another Incursion entitled - Heave Ho Off We Go! The play was a theatrical experience, brought to us by School Performance Tours. The children roared with laughter and sat bemused as Captain Hook pulled banana s out of their ears, turned a can of peas into pears, made pictures talk and entertained them with many other illusions and tricks. Many thanks to the P&C who fully funded this incursion so there was no cost to our families. Request for Christmas Fabric/Clothing If anyone has any scraps of fabric or clothing - Christmas theme or Christmas colours that they would like to donate, please can they be dropped into the Pre Primary (Lorikeet Room). We are hoping to make Christmas wreaths - the children using their fine motor skills to tie the scraps of fabric onto shaped wire coat hangers. Thank you!! Halloween Disco The children had an awesome time at the Disco on Friday night, organised by the P&C. The children had the opportunity to come dressed up in Halloween inspired costumes. They played games, enjoyed a sausage sizzle and danced their socks off, with a smoke machine and party lights to add to the atmosphere. We understand that Halloween is not everyone s cup of tea. It was brought to our attention that the surge in local children wanting to get dressed up for Halloween and go Trick or Treating around the streets was becoming a community concern. It was discussed that this provided the children an opportunity to get dressed up and have fun in a safe environment without the focus being simply to get lollies. A huge thank you to all the people who helped out and a special thanks to Sarah Passmore for organising the disco on top of all her other commitments, including running the canteen. Page 4
